First of all, having been a patient of Dr. Gonzalez for 18+ years, and therefore, having a pretty good read on how he responds to patient concerns, I can't help but to feel that Dr. Gonzalez was trying to get a read on how she felt about her mother-in-law's death before responding. He is not the type to jump in and talk over you. Which is why his stopping her and asking her to not present him with multiple issues in the same appointment strikes me as highly unusual and out of character. My personal experience is that as long as you are upfront with your medical concerns when making the appointment so that Joan (his awesome nurse) can schedule the appropriate amount of time, Dr. Gonzalez will spend all the time in the world with you. What's unfair to both Dr. Gonzalez and his other patients who expect their appointment times to be honored is to assume that Dr. Gonzalez can turn a ten minute examination for a single medical issue into a thirty minute examination for multiple medical issues without prior heads up. (Of course, Dr. Gonzalez will extend the appointment if he realizes the previously unmentioned symptoms require immediate attention, but it has to be something urgent.) I wasn't there at Ms. Berger's appointment, but as a long-time patient of Dr. Gonzalez, I can say that he has always given me ample time and has never rushed me through an appointment, even when it's obvious his schedule is packed. His examinations have always been very thorough, and he has never been short or dismissive with me, so to hear that he responded that way to Ms. Berger makes me feel that something must be missing from her story.

My first visit was fine - as a new patient - Dr. Gonzalez was kind and patient with me as I went through the new patient process. At the time I was going through a great deal of stress as we had just moved my mother in law from North Dakota and I had become her caregiver. My second visit was today - 12/21/15 and was horrible. I made the appointment last week telling his PA that I needed to see him for general pain from my back and hip and pain in my feet. Specifically my right foot which was now swollen and difficult to walk on. When I arrived at the office - I discovered that they didn't even have me in their system as a registered patient. When Dr. Gonzalez finally entered the room I told him that my Mother in law had passed away - he sat there with absolutely no emotion and just stared at me. That should have been my first clue. I realized he wasn't going to say anything so I began telling him my symptoms about my feet. He held up his finger signalling me to stop and announced that I was on his schedule for one thing only and he could only treat that one thing and that his schedule was very full. I said that it was all related and he again stated that his schedule was full and began pressing on my foot and told me it wasn't a foot issue. How the hell he could tell that from just pressing on my foot is beyond me. I said fine and then he said that I could schedule another appointment AFTER the holidays for all of my OTHER ISSUES. I became somewhat upset and tried to tell him how difficult it had been to find a doctor since moving to Atlanta that actually does more than one thing and I was beginning to break down. Instead of comfort - I was humiliated. He stood up saying - and I quote - "OK I'M GOING TO CANCEL THIS APPOINTMENT". I then asked what I'm supposed to do and all I got was his back. I was humiliated in front of his staff and as I left crying - I told the front desk that I had better not be billed for this appointment. I am 62 yrs old and I have never been walked out on by a Dr. I know that some Dr's can be all business but never did I think that I would experience the level of rudeness and clear lack of empathy from a healthcare professional. Dr. Gonzalez - you need a course in compassion! you need to go back to bedside manner school. Actually - look up the words COMPASSION AND EMPATHY and have them posted on your wall. I have lost 2 mother's, a family, a business and friends, a home of 12 years. I'd like a little less rude and a little more compassion. Remove me from your records - oh wait - I wasn't even there! Located off of South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, in…read morethe Emory-Adventist Hospital (used to be Smyrna General Hospital) office building, Dr. Demarco's office is on the 2nd floor in Suite 206. There are elevators available and plenty of parking in the open lot directly outside the building. DeMarco's assistant Shante is available by phone to make appointments or to get medication refills prescriptions. Upon arrival for your appointment, expect to wait 20-30 minutes. I always bring a book to read since most magazines in the waiting room are months old. The sign in sheet is available at the sign-in window which is built with sliding glass panes that are always kept closed and are tinted to be non-see through. How the staff know when a patient has arrived is anyone's guess. There is no bell or ringer to press and patients are warned not to tap on the non-see through glass. (for fear it will shatter? Or because the staff doesn't want to be disturbed?) Once you sign in and the staff acknowledge you, your records will be checked and any co-pay or changes in insurance will be taken/noted. After that you are in for the long haul, waiting until they call you. Once you are in the patient room, all goes smoothly and quickly. DeMarco comes in within 2 minutes of being in the room, carrying his laptop portable, digital medical records. Then the once-over check begins. After the initial baseline has been established, the more pressing matters (the reason why you are there) are addressed. Listening carefully, DeMarco addresses all concerns and gives his opinions as to how to remedy the illness. After this brief discussion, the visit is concluded satisfactorily and you are released! As a generalist, I can recommend Dr. DeMarco, but for anything serious or specialized you would be better off seeing the ER or a doctor who specializes in that specified medical area. But that is the definition of General Medicine, right?

He referred me to a gastroenterologist and I had a cancerous tumor removed. I was also treated by a cardiologist for heart disease. This past month at my annual wellness check Dr. Chang discussed personal quality of life treatments with me and I was prescribed medicines and returned three weeks later to his office to follow up on these prescriptions medicines actually helping me. Dr. Change is very thorough and careful to explain any question I asked. I recommend Dr. Chang and his nursing staff and front office staff were polite and helpful to me even securing a last minute GoodRX peescription. I visited this urgent care facility on 9/15/2014…read more I gave them my insurance card and thought everything was taken care of however I would quickly come to realize that the level of incompetency at this office surpasses anything I've ever experienced. See below for a timeline of events: Sept 2014 - Initial visit. Receptionist fails to photocopy my insurance and manually enters completely incorrect info including my name & social security number. This means the claim is rejected by my insurance. Nov 2014 - I call them for my test results as I had heard NOTHING from them. Aren't doctors supposed to call you? Feb 2015 - First bill sent by medical office. How does this bill take so long? At this point I had assumed everything was taken care of since my insurance should have covered anything. I called their billing office and the woman ended up billing the wrong insurance company. Claim denied. Again. Apr 2015 - Second bill as the claim had been denied because the employee billed the incorrect insurance agency. I call the billing company AGAIN clarifying everything and see that my actual insurance company was billed at the end of April. May 4, 2015 - I receive a notice that my account has been sent to collections. At this point, the medical office has already received payment even after all of their screw-ups. I fail to see why I should be further responsible for this entirely inept medical practice. Do not come here for any of your medical needs or you'll end up in a 7 month long billing battle - none of which will be your fault.
