I use to live a few blocks away from the current location and was there almost weekly for a box of a dozen. The owner (I'm pretty sure her name isn't actually Connie) was always friendly and kind. A real sweetheart of a lady. I moved to the Lakewood area back in 2010 and rarely made it out to the area during business hours. I hadn't been there in a few years when I made a trip out there this morning after finishing work. I was the first customer there and I was only planning to get a few donuts. After seeing some of my old favorites like the blueberry krispy bar, the blueberry filled donut, the apple filled donut, and the apple fritter, it was like reuniting with a long lost love. I got a dozen. I'm a blueberry lover and this place has the most varieties of donuts with blueberry topping/filling. I promise I won't let this much time lapse between visits again. The cream filled donuts have plenty of filling, whereas some places leave you wondering where the cream is. The chocolate covered apple turnover is unique, I've never seen that before. As I have read the current reviews, I am honestly surprised. From the outside, the only thing I could reasonably dislike was the lack of parking. Going inside, although it is a bit small, I was in there with 5 others and it wasn't too cramped, as I expected it to be. Placing those minimal items aside, after ordering our dozen to go, we left and I HAD to try the maple-bacon bar even before we left the place. And I was so glad I did! This place has some of the best donuts I have ever had in Tacoma!! Even when you go in later in the day they are still fresh, not crusty and stale and I tell everyone I know about it. Connie is always happy and smiling, even if she is busy. I will ALWAYS send anyone looking for great breakfast pastries and coffee to her. She's awesome! read more

Connie's boasts a full range of coffee drinks and Italian sodas--though the reality is that there is little boasting at this unassuming locale. The decor could be called retro, though its probably been like that since it was new. Bright yellow booths with red accents make it cute. There are a few places to sit, but the focus is on donuts, not a loungey cafe. It's great to have a local spot in south Tacoma to support. If you like Pao's on 6th Ave you will love Connie's! They have an almost identical assortment of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside doughnuts. These doughnuts are so fresh that sometimes they are still warm. Pretty much anything you get there will be good, but particularly delicious are their krispie bars, apple fritters, and the chocolate-chocolate coconut. I visited a friend yesterday and noticed Connie's Doughnuts just a few yards away. When I was leaving, I had a craving for doughnuts. I went inside and purchased a dozen doughnuts. They have a great selection and the different flavors were all great. Red velvet with cream cheese frosting, some amazing custard filled Boston Cream doughnuts, plus blueberry filled, just to name a few. What a gem of a neighborhood donut shop! We just moved to the area and came across Connie's (since its literally a minute walk from our house) and I'm so happy to have this so close by! The apple fritters are by far my favorite, but I've also tried a lemon custard filled donut which was fabulous as well. I always get a soy vanilla chai latte as well with my donut, and that is delicious and creamy. We've gone once before 30 min before closing and she still had quite a few donuts left! But there is a sign saying she'll close early if donuts sell out. The woman working (who I assume is Connie) is always pleasant and quick, and we will continue to come here from now on for our donuts :) read more
