We have my two-year-old cat with us, so I suggested he investigate the premises while I watched her in the car. In the meantime, I witnessed what appeared to be various men aimlessly wandering around the parking lot as if they were lost and confused. When my husband returned, I found out why. The indoor bathroom connected to the museum is only available to women, and men are required to use the portable toilet. Why is beyond me. I entered the museum when a male voice behind me uttered, "Restrooms?" That's when I pointed to the sign on the door and proceeded to explain to who I thought was yet another perplexed male visitor that I was told only women were allowed to access the indoor restroom, and men had to use the portable toilet. I then noticed his shirt and realized he was an employee practically tripping over himself to direct me to the facilities, which I thought was weird. Before I even entered the bathroom, I was turned off by some sign on the door shooing away men and encouraging women to "sit down and relax during the performance." (Huh?) While doing my business, I saw another sign by the doorknob along the lines of, "Before you leave, do you have your sunglasses? Phone? Purse? Panty up?" (Seriously, panty up? Who talks like that?) There were other strange pictures and signs in and around the bathroom that I didn't have time to explore because I was so creeped out and concerned about someone secretly watching me pee. Instead, I booked it the hell out of there as fast as I could back to my car in time to continue seeing befuddled men wandering about the parking lot. As far as the portable toilets go, my husband said they were "disgusting," "stuffed," and looked like they hadn't been emptied in three years to the point that if you sat down to poop, "your butt would be covered." These were exact quotes from him. He also added how overpriced gas was. Please avoid, if at all possible.

At the hot dog roller, the buns area was well stocked and there was a combination of "ready" and "still heating" hot dogs available in multiple flavors. It was the basic beef dog today and points off because the cheese dispenser was out and the chili was almost out. The other toppings options were needing restocking. This needs some work. On a positive note, I want to compliment your team on the cleanliness of the facilities--the Hardee's restaurant, convenience store, gas station, restrooms, and showers were all exceptionally clean and well-kept. However, a few operational details on the RV side significantly impacted our overall experience. First, when we arrived in the early evening to check in and set up, the automatic sprinkler system was running directly on our site. Because the sprinklers had been running, the gravel walkways and surrounding ground were completely muddy and wet, forcing us to spend the evening walking through mud that repeatedly got tracked into our motorhome. To make matters worse, the sprinklers started up again in the morning between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM while we were preparing to leave. Trying to retract our slide-outs, disconnect our water and sewer lines, and pack up our electrical cables while dodging sprinklers was frustrating. Adjusting the sprinkler schedule to run during off-peak hours (such as overnight) would make a huge difference for guests checking in, relaxing outside, or packing up early to head out. Finally, while most travelers may bring their own shower products, the soap provided in the showers feels like standard, harsh hand soap from a regular public sink. Upgrading to a creamy body soap would complement your clean facilities and offer a much better experience for anyone using the provided amenities. With a few simple adjustments to the sprinkler timing and shower amenities, the overall guest experience would be greatly improved.

It kept on pumping even after pulling it out of the tank, creating a large fuel spill. With no emergency shutoff in sight, I had to swing the hose baseball bat style into the concrete pole to make it stop pumping. Gas was all over the place. Called the sheriff about the spill and left after they arrived. This place is not like any other Flying J I have seen and I'll find a different fuel station on the next trip through Hardin.

A few years ago I got the explanation that the bathrooms were out of service temporarily. Years later they still are. What's even more crazy is there's a museum there attached to the station that I assume the owners are using to further entice people to stop. I'd trade a bathroom for the museum. Keep driving! There's a reason it looks like a great station from the outside, but yet you see very few cars there.
