Everyone who works there is professional with safety as the literal top priority. I taught my kids to shoot there. In past ~5 years or so, builders have built homes about a mile away. Northwest ISD has built a school. Country acreage and fields still surround on all sides. Two bullets were found at the new school, and the assumption is that it was bullets from the public range which has tall berms and does not directly have line of aim to the school. This range's presence is not a safety issue. For folks are concerned about this, consider having NISD foot the bill to build bigger berms or indoor shooting range for Quail Creek. Why not? NISD is already spending our tax money like water.

Northwest ISD says it tried to work with the owner on safety improvements and couldn't even get a commitment. The district isn't asking to shut the range down. They're asking for reasonable safety measures to keep bullets from leaving the property. How is that even controversial? Every gun owner knows you are responsible for where your rounds go. If there's a credible possibility rounds from my range could be reaching a middle school, I'm doing everything possible to make sure it can never happen again. I'm not making the school district sue me. I support gun ranges. I want this one to stay open. But responsible gun ownership means taking safety seriously, especially when kids are involved. Fix the damn problem.

I grabbed this class on a Groupon for a great rate and when I found out it was 10 hours of class I was dreading it, but it was actually so much fun. Unlike most CHL classes that I've heard about the instructor (Mark Payne) actually broke up the important facts and information that you really need to know with interesting stories, videos and clips to help demonstrate what he was talking about and help us all understand the importance of the information he was covering more quickly. Since I went to one of the all women's classes he came prepared with a large number of handguns that everyone could come up to the front and pick up to see how they feel. This was important because most of us had not purchased a gun yet (wanting to know how to use it first) and he took time to talk to each of us about what we might look for in a gun. He also brought fake bullets and allowed us all to practice loading a clip throughout the class so that by the end of the day when we went to take the firing range test we felt confident in loading the clip on our own. I can't say enough how FAST the day flew by, it's what we were all saying on every break and the information was so interesting and Mark was so funny (while still getting across how important it is) that it was very enjoyable. The firing range test was a little nerve-wracking but Mark and his family (who run the company together) are very good at helping you become comfortable and confident, even when firing for the first time! I know I would not have done as well without his help, and I definitely wouldn't have my CHL! If you're looking for a class, GO HERE, you won't regret it!

I already knew shooting was not automatic for me. I had some bad habits. Well, maybe I had a lot of bad habits. Sandy assesses your level: beginner, intermediate, expert. Then he helps you make your gun handling and shooting MUCH more smooth and effective. In my case, I signed up for a private lesson. As a woman, I was used to shooting rifles (had livestock and therefore problem predators occasionally), but not my handguns. When I bought a new handgun, I wanted to get training on handling and shooting it, quickly, effectively, and accurately. That's what I'm getting. And can't believe what I've learned already to prevent jamming, to increase speed while keeping accuracy, etc. And his rates? Very affordable. And great gun range out in the country: perfect place to learn. Sandy teaches all levels, from beginners to professionals, from personal protection to concealed carry. Jeff and his instructors are incredibly professional, knowledgeable and experienced. Anyone who owns a gun and hasn't been to some training absolutely needs to take his classes. For beginners you can literally show up with a brand new gun still in the box and they'll walk you through everything in his Handgun 101 class. For experienced shooters, look at Advanced Handgun, and Carbine classes. I've shot at training courses in CA, NV and here in north TX and Kranz is among the best.
