Dined at Consuelo during Gainesville's First Fridays and loved every bite. As someone who recently moved from NJ, I've been impressed by the Mexican cuisine in Georgia--Consuelo stands out. Just off the town square, the restaurant has a sleek, modern vibe. We shared a bottle of red wine (reasonably priced), and the food was fresh and flavorful. The chicken enchiladas verdes were hearty and delicious, chips and guac were spot-on, and the empanadas hit the mark. We ended with their Tres Leches cake--light, sweet, and topped with berries. I work in the square so I've visited maybe 2-3 times now & i love how clean and quick service is. I got the ceviche flight with the ginger lemonade, OMG that lemonade it's a 20/10! The ceviche, i wasn't the biggest fan but if you like chilaquiles, id recommend those for sure with the steak. I'll have to try more items to rank up my review, not fair to give 2 stars and only try the basics. read more

Great place just off the square in downtown Gainesville. We only had drinks and a dessert. The drinks were amazing, and the bar was fully seated - a testament to the popularity of that portion of the business. Mixed drinks are going to run you about $15, not cheap, but I would say a good value given the fresh ingredients and the quality. My Four Roses Bourbon Margarita was very "satisfying". The cheesecake, as recommended by Katie - our server, was amazing. I have to say she was top notch, and could tell she really enjoyed her job there. Consuelo's is such a hidden gem in Gainesville! The enchiladas verdes are always a favorite of mine: flavorful, comforting, and perfectly balanced. I always get extra sauce. But the real standout for me is their tres leches. I've had a lot of tres leches cakes, and theirs is easily one of the best. Moist, creamy, and just melts in your mouth. Don't skip it! The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and every time I've been, the service has been just as great as the food. We ordered the octopus, guacamole, enchiladas, chicken soup, and the molcajete, and everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. The octopus was perfectly cooked and tender, the guacamole was well-seasoned, and the chicken soup tasted like true comfort food. Legit!! Super good Mexican food; best Latin food I've had since we moved from south Florida. Can't recommend enough. My daughter and I stopped in with a craving for some good Mexican food and this place was such a delight. Highly recommend it for anyone in Gainesville, or nearby. If we are within 20-30 minutes again, I will make it a point to go out of my way to revisit. The tortillas were straight out of the fryer, and the salsa verde was the best I've ever had. Definitely recommend the chips and salsa app. My daughter got a chicken quesadilla which was very good, but the guac that came with it was awesome. I got the Huevos con Chorizo and it was stellar. Service was very good, nice atmosphere and location. Unfortunately, the food was hit and miss. I had the Trio Enchiladas which was pretty good, but could have been seasoned better. My companion had the Taquitos which were over-cooked (bordering on burnt) and dry, with no flavor. Tortilla chips were also over-cooked, very dark color. Probably old oil was used too as it had a scorched flavor. Overpriced for the quality. Both of us got sick later in the evening. Not sure which dish might have been the culprit, but I'm leaning towards possibility of the old, used oil. read more

Service was impeccable, but the menu was even more so diverse, real deal, authentic I believe Venezuelan cuisine and other central, and Mexican influences, but had the best flavors I've had in quite a while They're Mole sauce and chicken leg dish. The Consuela was simple but fabulous. Pickled onions and chicken with sauce and tortillas was all needed and it was fantastic. Simple tasty a little pricey, but this is not a low end restaurant. We ordered a flight of tequila. Drinks to Tri. All were independently spectacular well presented, and again the service we got from our young server was impeccable!!! we also had the enchiladas which we ended up splitting between three of us because it was so much food and we actually all shared much of the dishes together. We even got the beef tongue which I normally would not have eaten but our server insured we would like it, and he was not wrong. I am so glad I gave this place a try, it was recommended to me by a coworker and it blew me away! The atmosphere was perfect, the bar had comfortable stools, was the perfect height, had adequate hooks for purses, and the music wasn't too loud. We were immediately sat with an 8:30 pm reservation. Service was attentive but you can tell the kitchen was behind. Drink: 8/10 - Sweet Birds of Youth - very good and not too sweet Apps: 2/10 Queso Fundido w/ 2 tortillas - tasted okay, but seized up before it got to the table. we ordered it plain because ordering it with an add-on was expensive, but honestly, it's really needed. The cheese by itself was not the best. Add-ons were $3-$5 each. Order more tortillas and was charged for them as "chips". Entree - Huarache, overall a good dish, but for the price not a lot of food. The meat was tender Overall - the food was a 7/10 at best, but the prices were a bit on the high side for the taste and quality of the food. Wow!! The minute I walked into this place I instantly felt the vibe of upscale restaurants I've been too in Guadalajara, Mexico. The mezcal cocktails (I ordered the Oaxaca smash) are absolutely phenomenal with legit mezcal from Oaxaca! I ordered the taquitos de papa as a app and they were very good, loved them! Big enough for one person if they want a vegetarian dish. I imagine if they remove the cheese it would be vegan but you'd have to confirm it with your server. For my main dish I ordered the Mole which was absolutely delicious!!! The service here is just as upscale as the place, Raul our server was top notch, he's a credit to this establishment! Let me be clear, this isn't just another crappy "Mexican" restaurant that you order a "no. 3 combination plate" at, so if that's what you're looking for then this isn't the spot for you. We came here on a Thursday night for my boyfriends mom's birthday and it was not crowded, however it took 20 minutes to receive water. We waited another 10 minutes to order cocktails which took another 15 minutes to receive. We constantly watched the staff stand around and do nothing. I got the rosemary blush cocktail- it was filled about 3/4 the way a usual martini is served, which is not reasonable for a $13 cocktail. We ordered the chips and quac which were delicious! My waiter, Tito, was easily the highlight of the evening. His recommendations were all impeccable and he was so helpful and accommodating. I look forward to coming back in the future! I started by ordering the Empanadas de Camarón (Shrimp Empanadas) and they were wonderful. Very flaky and much bigger than I thought they would be! They were topped with a cilantro cream. They were a little bit oily but they were well worth it. Tito recommended the Hibiscus Margarita, which was a refreshing drink that paired well with the dishes. He also suggested an entree that was not on the menu, an enchilada trio with salsa verde, salsa roja, and mole. Wow. When I tell y'all. This was my first time eating mole and it did NOT disappoint. It was my favorite. The enchiladas were packed with flavor and each one had a very distinct taste. I definitely recommend the trio if you have a chance to go. My waiter also recommended one more drink which he stated was his favorite on the menu, the Sweet Bird of Youth. It is a gin based drink with elderflower and lemon juice. It was the perfect way to close out my experience. Overall, this was such a memorable dining experience! The food and service was top-tier and the entire ambiance of the restaurant was very upscale and aesthetically pleasing. It is the the perfect spot for date night! I was with a group of 6. The place was extremely noisy. It was difficult to carry on a conversation. I ordered the Huarache Vegano. The corn tortilla was so tough, I could have used a steak knife to cut it. The menu said with refried beans, but I never got them. I was still finishing my meal 10 minutes after my companions had finished theirs. Two of my companions ordered a second margarita; it took about 30 minutes to get them. The server said the order was missed and finally made. Since I was a guest of one of my companions, I did not complain to the server. I was TOTALLY DISAPOINTED with the restaurant. read more

We ordered drinks and then ordered a few appetizers, the guacamole and chips and the Taquitos de papa, sadly only 3 to an order and with 4 people well...we ordered our entrees, I had the enchilada verde and she had the Hurache. The other couple had the polo en mole verde, and the el plato de pepe. The appetizer had great flavor and was tasty. The entrees were all very good. The sauces on each dish were unique and added great flavor to each dish. The dishes were unique by comparison to other Mexican places.
