Did you know - Mexico has 53 consulates in the United States, more than any other country. I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews. We did not have an appointment and the security guard directed us in the proper line. The lady who was assisting everyone in the line was patient and was able to answer all of our questions pertaining to an upcoming trip. The consulate is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5 PM and offers services in English and Spanish. They provide services for Mexicans living in the United States and Americans who want to visit Mexico. Do keep in mind that the consulate's Visas Department only accepts visa applicants with appointments. read more

I went to the consulate to verify that I had all the appropriate paperwork to proceed with obtaining my citizenship. I arrived 15 minutes before they opened and there was already a line in a Thursday morning. The staff finally arrived and divided us in 3 lines: those who have appointments, those who don't, and those who are here to verify dual citizenship documentation. Since I just needed the documentation verified, I was in and out in 10 minutes. I can't speak for an actual appointment where you have to work with someone and get things processed. The Consulate was so helpful and it was quick and easy. It helps if you make an appointment online ahead of time. It makes things go smoother and they tell you what you need ahead of time. I highly recommend visiting the website rather than the website. It will tell you your closest office and the soonest appointment. When getting there the security guard told us to go check in with the clerk guiding everyone to their designated areas. I arrived at 3:30 for my 3:45 appointment, I left by 3:50pm. Very unfortunate such a crucial service is left in the hands of such irresponsible and inconsiderate workers. If only there were alternatives, since the line extends to the end of the sidewalk and is still growing. Just a foul display of carelessness, open front door but nobody inside to help, they still aren't open now at 8:30? And it seems they won't be available all day. Horrible services, Their employees are not train to do their job I need to get a passport but I lost mine so I went early to file my report with them and they send me somewhere else that I have to paid. While they could file the report there. So either their are clearly not doing there job or committing fraud sending bushiness to another business. The police report is free and yet when I call to make the appointment they told me an authority has to take the report . The Mexican consulate can do it and yet they always fail to do their part. It was a better experience than expected. I was scared because I feel like I always get unpleasant customer service, in Mexico and making my appointment over the phone was awful but then I recalled and actually got someone super helpful and nice. This place is very disorganized and I dread going in to renew my passport. The last time was 5 years ago. They now require an appointment which I guess is good but when I showed up with my pictures, passport and money they just gave me a bunch of forms and sent me away to come back another day. Sucks. So I suggest: Go to their web site www.sre.gob.mx/phoenix Download the passport form: "Solicitud De Pasaporte Ordinario Mexicano (OP-5)" fill it out in its entirety. Then call the phone number to make the appointment 1-877-639-4835 This will save you a trip and disappointment. Note the requirements for a brand new passport as they are extensive (not covered here). For a renewal as in my case, you need the old passport, pictures and $101 dollars cash only for the six years. Now be prepared to furnish the additional documents as follows: Copies, both sides and show original of AZ Drivers License on ONE page only (B&W ok) Copies, both sides and show original Resident Alien Card on ONE page. Copy of birth certificate (if passport has been expired for some time) and be able to show the original Copies and originals of any Mexican cards (voter card, license, etc) as you feel may be needed depending on your situation NOTE THIS: The instructions on the web site and the flier are wrong: they state that you only need copies in Black and White of pages 1 through 5 of the old passport. This is not true, they need those but they also need a copy of the last page of the old passport so you are better off bringing copies of ALL the pages of the old passport. Here are some points to keep in mind to make your visit less painful: * If your appointment is 8am (first thing in the morning) you do NOT need to stand in line with everyone else. The official told me to stand in line and then later the security guard said they would start screening people with appointments first. This caused a frenzy as people got out of line who had one and those that did not and did not know they needed one got mad and started arguing with security. * Don't bring a jacket I don't care how cold it is as any little thing will set off the metal detector so you will have to take it off and any jewelry, watch, phone, keys, belt, etc. I still set the damn thing off each time I went back (and I had to go back three times as they kept making me get copies of this and copies of that) * As soon as you get in the building go to "information" nowhere in this building does it say that you need to get a number from them, have them inspect your forms and wait for that number to be called even if you have an appointment. When the official asked me how long I wanted the passport for I said "The longer the better so I don't have to come back to this place"...OK I didn't say that but I was thinking it. This is the only place where you will hate being Mexican. If you like to hear 'NO' then this is the place for you, not only is this place so unorganized they have a terrible attitude with customers. I went into get a Mexican passport, provided my original birth certificate which I had to pay someone in Mexico City to get (as if that is not hard enough). My Arizona ID name did no include a second last name so the first agent denied me unless I brought additional documentation, I came back with naturalization papers, my change of name legal stamped documents and my expired first Mexican passport which has my full Mexican name and still told me because it was a foreign / expired document it could not be accepted. Then I spoke to a supervisor who had a pretentious attitude about the whole thing and was giving a hard time for loosing my Mexican passport back in 2005 - he asked me to find it and he could then help me, a 9 year old lost passport? Oh yeah let me get right on it. He was very insensitive towards the matter as if it wasn't his problem, are these people supposed to help its citizens? I tried a fourth person who told me I could bring my itinerary and claim an emergency, so for the 3RD time in the day I came back with the requested documents and the same supervisor made it a point to tell the agent to tell me no! Overall the biggest problem with these people is that they don't care, they have been pushing the same pencils for years that your problem is not theirs. The place is filled with animosity and is expressed very loudly if you are an American citizen. Not only is this a disappointing experience, is rather sad to think of other Mexican nationals looking for a helping hand get told that there is no hope just because the consulate agent didn't have their coffee the morning. read more

I agree with you. They provide the worst costumer service. The time I was there I had to complained with a "supervisor" because the cashier was very rude and unprofessional. The day I was there they wanted me to go back another they which I refused and told them I was not gonna move until they process my form. I told them "you may act tough and rude to everyone who comes here but not with me." I was able to get what I needed and hope I do not have to go back anytime soon. The service at the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix was excellent. Our process for residente temporal was one hour and 7 minutes to complete for delivery to INM in Mexico. We arrived early with no wait time. Parking was more than adequate and right by the door. Staff was exceptionally efficient and cordial. I went into banjercito to apply for a car permit to drive into Mexico and the woman attending customers there Jessica B Tamayo was extremely rude and condescending. The way she treats people is terrible I had my first appointment early in the morning with 3 people ahead of me and right away she refused their transactions, she didn't explain why or make sure that when they do return that everything will be in order. To no surprise my transaction was rejected as well because I didn't apply for a migratory form online, understandably I went home and completed it, returned the next day to have my transaction rejected again because my vehicle registration was a paper copy, which I received from the state MVD as valid. She claimed it was not original so she could not sign off on it, mind you I ran my own mvd third party for 7 years so I am knowledgeable on a valid registration. Each time my transaction was rejected Jessica told me to go apply for the permit in a Banjercito in Mexico. I was so enfuriated but succumbed to her ridiculous request, only to return the next day and be attended by another person who was much more personable where all of my documents were accepted. If you go apply for a permit I highly suggest you don't go with Jessica she clearly isn't there to help customers even though she works in customer service, she will just give you the run around to avoid helping anyone out. She is a "vieja amargada" who clearly is miserable at her job. read more

This place is the worst, I was there today, to process my son passport. I process his Mexican citizenship so I pretty much request all information for the passport. So today we get there they give him a clear folder and told him to seat in the chair with number 1, so I seat back where no numbers are. When he was call I went with him, the lady said "this is a personal process an he is an adult, he is 19yrs old", so I step back and went back and seat. When he call me to go to the cashier and paid she give him the passport for 10yrs, we only wanted for 3yrs, I asked him to go back and let her know and she said she already did the process like that, so I got the papers and went to let her know I couldn't affor it, she pretty much ignored us and said I'm with a client. He waited and waited and she just ignored him, so I decided to just paid double then what I was expecting just to get off of there. I guess is a way of ripping people off. When we where waiting my cell phone ring before I'm able to get it off my purse the security guard is over me telling me I can't used my cell phone in there. I saw a couple people using they cell before this (it would be nice if they make a sign so peple know) We wait forever to get the passport.
