AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS. I have had two very negative experiences with their service department and will never come back. In the most recent instance I called asking about a handlebar swap on my gravel bike. As you can see from my transcript of the call below, I clearly stated all the facts up front (Pinarello Grevil F7 2024, integrated cable routing, hydraulic disc brakes, mechanical shifting, separate bar and stem). They quoted me a price of $72 or ~$75 with tax. I came into the store today with the bike, went up to the counter and politely asked them to confirm that the price would be $72. The worker said no and then printed me out a quote $336 -- nearly FIVE TIMES the cost I was quoted on the phone. I would understand a small price difference. But ~FIVE TIMES THE PRICE? I walked away feeling extremely misled and deceived. Is it normal for them to lie to potential customers about the price to get them in the door and then upcharge them later? The time before I took my road bike w/ clip on aerobars into the shop for bar tape and re-wrapping. With a sales associate I picked out a tape, after I was told it would be long enough to cover both the main bar AND the aerobars. Upon returning I was told "Sorry, there wasn't enough for the aerobars" and was given the bike back. I got halfway home and realized they hadn't asked me to pay! Not wanting to be accused of theft, I turned around and had to come back and pay them. The cost I believe was close to $50 -- more than the cost of the tape itself. read more

We had a sudden thunderstorm severe out of the blue in the Navy yard and they welcomed us in during the torrential downpour and severe winds. I had my dog with me and they signaled for us to come in - above and beyond for their neighborhood. I can just imagine how wonderful they are to their customers. read more

Where to begin? This is the first yelp review I have ever written. I bought my bike at Conte's in spring of 2024. Hybrid bike just to get around the city. I should've known something was wrong from the purchase. The associate told me if I bought 5 accessories, I would receive 20% off of my entire order. I asked the associate, "20% off of the bike too?" He said yes. Unfortunately, that proved not to be the case as the bike was still full price. Not the end of the world. A little miscommunication on the associate's part probably got him a little more of a commission. Fast forward to Christmas 2025. I was out riding with a friend, and we stopped for a bite and a drink. I came out to a missing front wheel. Took the bike to Conte's Navy Yard the following day to see if they could replace the wheel and the tire. They told me they would have to order the parts, and it would be just under $300. I called around to a couple other shops and found out I could get it repaired cheaper. However, I am pretty loyal to businesses where I am a patron, and the added cost wasn't worth lugging it to another shop. I gave them the go ahead via text (that's how they communicate) and asked for a confirmation. When no confirmation came, I stopped in the shop in person to tell them to do a repair. This was on a Monday, and they said the bike would be done by the end of the week. Friday comes along and I don't hear anything. I live close so I stopped in Sunday for an update. They said they were still waiting on the parts. Apparently, they are a bike shop that doesn't stock wheels for Cannondale bikes. 3 days later I get a text saying they needed a deposit to order the wheel. The associate said, "It's a new policy." I again went to the shop to voice my displeasure as the bike was supposed to be ready the week before. I explained I had purchased the bike there, I've only had it serviced there, they said nothing about a deposit when I dropped it off nor when I came in to check on the progress. I told them I would come the following day with my work truck to pick up the bike and take it to another shop. They basically had about 18 hours to get their act together and do the right thing. After being run around the block I couldn't in good conscience give Conte's any additional $. I showed up the following day, and my bike was ready to go. No apology or attempt to keep a customer that solely used their business. I took the bike to Silver Cycles on 14th St. NW. Bike was fixed the same day for $100 less than Conte's quoted. I asked them if it was ok to use their name in this review. They were friendly, helpful and efficient. I highly recommend Silver Cycles if you are considering a new bike or service. I gave Conte's every opportunity to make this right. They did not feel the need. So, choose Conte's if you like poor customer service that is overpriced. I will be doing all of my future business at Silver Cycle's on 14th St. I highly recommend you do the same. read more

I've always had great service at the Navy Yard/DC location. And they continue to impress. I had to replace my Garmin (which wouldn't update and wouldn't hold a signal even when connected to my phone). The warranty had run out but the manager said this shouldn't happen and he'd try to get an exchange/replacement for me since it wasn't very old. Sure enough, he got a positive response pretty quickly from Garmin (good for them, too) and followed up with me as soon as it arrived. Saved me some money and won my loyalty. read more

When I came in today ... finally! ... to get the repaired bike, I understood for the first time why it took so long. It was because Conte had a hard time getting the parts ... not their fault. I think the staff at the Wisconsin Ave location are well intentioned, but I'm sorry to say that I had the worst experience with any bike shop I've ever worked with. After taking my bike in 3 times to diagnose a recurrent flat tire issue, on the 4th flat I finally lost faith. I asked them to re-tape the inner rim (in case of a pinch flat issue). When that didn't work they recommended another re-taping. Reasonable. When that didn't work they recommended a new tire. Fine... then I asked the mechanic to ride the bike around until they were certain the issue was resolved. They called a few days later and said it was ready. The tire did not look new, and I still don't believe they put a new one on. The mechanic said there was a "flat spot" on the rim, but couldn't show me where it was... something started to feel not right about the whole situation. On the ride home after picking up the bike I got another flat. When I called back and reported the issue, he said I'd probably need a new wheel (expensive). At that point I resolved to figure it out myself, and with the help of my neighbor, we found 1) a small sharp wire imbedded in my (not new!) tire; 2) rim tape was still misaligned and not covering the spoke hole (pinched flat). So the two issues that I'd thought we'd ruled out were still very much not fixed. read more

I had such a great experience at Conte's. From my bike fitting with Liz (Elisabeth Sherwood) to the shop really going above and beyond getting my bike just right for me! I am a small rider and getting a small frame to fit me is a challenge. Liz helped in researching stem lengths (not many options for my bike) in addition to making additional adjustments to create a fit that worked for my needs with what was available. It has transformed my experience on my bike. Liz goes above and beyond. She noticed my stem that was too long for me was just the size another client needed and couldn't find, and she helped coordinate the exchange which was beneficial for both of us! Also, Liz made time to help fit me so I could have as much time in the saddle as possible prior to my upcoming Canada ride in the Rockies. The shop helped with numerous adjustments and changes on my bike and were extremely communicative. They also made an effort to get my bike back to me as quickly as possible. This experience was so positive, I know that I'll be a new lifetime customer of Conte's. read more

Conte's Bike Shop is good people. During COVID-19, I joined a long line of customers safely waiting to get their bikes fixed. Not only did they have an efficient system in place to keep us all safe, but they did so quickly and with smiles on their faces. When it was my turn, they identified my issue quickly. Love this shop! True story, the day before the DC 20-Mile Bike Ride, I went to pick up my packet. Contee Bike Shop was set up to assist with bikes for Free! Awesome right? I go get my bicycle. When I get to my bike I have a flat tire. Devastated! I put some air in it and roll over to the Contee bike stand. There was a hole in my tire. Boo-hoo! They tried the to do a quick fix till I could ride to the bike shop but I didn't make it five minutes away from them when the tire went flat again. There was more than one hole. The awesome thing is Dave from Contee in Virginia Beach offered to take my bike to the shop, have it repaired, and I could come pick it up later. It got even better when he called me two hours later and told me that the bike was ready and he would bring it back to where they picked it up, which is close to my house. Yippee! God bless him and the Contee Bike Shop team. I am truly grateful! I encourage you to support this shop. They are worthy! read more

So grateful for the staff at Conte's! I'd been having issues with my bike pretty much since quarantine started, so I took it in for a tune-up. They replaced my inner tube same-day, with no appointment required. While I was waiting for my bike to get serviced, I mentioned that I was considering upgrading. (My old bike was a refurbished model that got the job done, but now that it has become my main mode of transportation during COVID-19, I was hoping to find something more reliable.) Colt showed me the options that they still had in stock, and was very knowledgeable, helpful, and patient as I weighed my options. After I decided to purchase a new bike, the staff had me set up and ready to go in half an hour after making several adjustments and add-ons. They also have a 3 year protection plan that covers a lot of basic tune-ups, replacements, and quick fixes for only $99. Lovely experience all-around, and I think I found the last hybrid bike in all of DC, so I'm glad I stopped in when I did! COVID-19 protocol here is good: the shop is pretty open, everyone is masked up, there are a few hand sanitizer stations available, and it's easy enough to maintain distance between staff/customers. I'd come back again -- and will, when my new bike inevitably needs an adjustment. read more

Walked into Conte's Bike shop on a Saturday morning hoping to purchase 2 new bikes for myself and partner. In compliance w social distancing they were limiting occupancy in the store to 10 people posted via signage on the door. We counted 8 ppl inside and proceeded to enter. Upon entering the establishment we stood by the door. We weren't greeted, no one looked up to say hi or they'd be with us in one moment. So we began to walk around and browse bikes. 2 employees were helping other patrons, another was on the phone (and walked past us several times) and the last one was behind the counter working on a bike. After browsing the selection we went and stood by the door to wait for someone to say ANYTHING to us. At this point we'd been in the store for 7 mins. I know this bc you have to pay for parking and I checked the meter for time. My partner was ready to walk out at this point but I've really been wanting to purchase a quality bicycle. We're both front line workers (PA and firefighter/EMT) during COVID and looking forward to utilizing bike riding as a stress reliever/means for exercise during this time. Finally I made eye contact with one of the employees and he walked over and said he'd be right with us. I mentioned that we'd been in the store for over 5 mins and we weren't greeted by anyone. He replies "Actually we're supposed to stop you at the door. Are you guys going to buy a bike?". His entire attitude was very dismissive and unwelcoming. It completely turned me off. He didn't apologize or seem interested in helping us. I told him that we would just go to another shop. As we were exiting he commented "I don't think any other places are open but ok". Now given that this place is pretty small and the total occupancy at the time (including us) was 10, it was pretty unacceptable that no one said anything to us. They weren't busy. There was one additional couple in the store and a single patron. It was a quiet Saturday morning. It's unseasonably cold at 40 degrees this morning so there wasn't a lot foot traffic. The lack of customer service was incredibly disappointing. We literally felt invisible. Investing in a good bike will run you anywhere from $800-3000. We were prepared to purchase two. Maybe we didn't look like the "typical Navy Yard" patrons however I would expect and appreciate a simple hello when entering the establishment. read more

This bike shop is full of well-trained and gifted mechanics who are also great people who don't judge those of us who don't look good in Lycra. I've had several repairs done and they were all faster than promised and perfectly done. They also ask questions about what your goals are before assuming and are frank about whether the fancier, costlier version is actually not worth it for what you are trying to do! Above & Beyond I've been going to Conte's for a few years now for sporadic issues. Recently, I had a double flat from a pinch puncture that Conte's fixed up same-day for me after other bike shops quoted me 24-26 hour turnarounds. After picking up early the next morning before a bike ride with a friend I ended the ride nearby in Navy Yard 2 hours later and to my horror my front tube punctured seemingly randomly while just walking it outside of the stadium. Even though the store was *closed* I made my way there sort of blindly hoping to find a pump, but mostly just delaying taking buses home with a busted bike. To my eternal glee the store manager was still there and even though he had no earthly reason to, he let me in and spent time checking out the tire/tube. He found a minuscule piece of glass inside the rim that punctured the tube but not the tire. He replaced the tube and didn't charge me for the services and wouldn't accept any gratitude on my behalf other than writing this review. So in short, Conte's is nothing if not filled with genuine, wonderful employees who will go above & beyond to help you. I certainly didn't deserve anything he did for me that night, but I'll always be very thankful! read more

AWESOME shop! I took my bike in here for repairs because I was having problems with my gears. I'd been looking for a new bike shop because the employees at the one I bought my bike from (and is only a block away) have developed some serious attitudes if you aren't fluent in "bike." I rolled my bike into Conte's and an employee immediately asked how they could help me. I explained the issue and he looked it over for a few minutes while we waited for one of the techs to come out and assess it. Lo and behold, a few adjustments here and there and the thing was fixed. The employee told me to go ride it around the block a few times and if it worked, then to just take it on home--no payment necessary. Needless to say, it did work, but I returned to the store to offer my thanks and snatch up some merchandise. Incredible service, incredible atmosphere, and an overall incredible shop. I recently moved to the area (so my bike was boxed and shipped) and was looking for a shop that could assemble my bike. I gave them a ring and they said they could do it for something just under $100 with about a week or two turnaround. Dropping my bike off was quick and easy, as was picking it up. They notified me via email (and maybe text?) when my bike was done and told me that my assembly also included a tune up (which was nice). I also needed a new bike lock and bell, which they had a good selection of. The location is nice, staff is friendly, and prices were reasonable. I'd recommend them to those local to the area. read more

The service on my bike is probably fine (too early to tell) and I believe that they are good people. Unfortunately I don't plan to be back (which probably doesn't matter to them since they are "very busy"). I spoke to someone at Conte's 4 times and 3/4 times they just gave me total BS. The first time was to make an appointment for service (which I came to do in person), but after giving them all my contact info it turns out the appointment was not made when I called to confirm. I then basically had to prove on the phone that I had ever been there. When I did make the appointment (for a Wednesday) I was told the bike would be ready "in a couple days." Then I got a notification a full week later that they needed to order a part. Okay - but when I brought the bike in initially (a week before my actual appointment) they told me that they needed to replace that part so it's frustrating that they wouldn't notice for two weeks AND a full week after they said my bike would be ready. They obviously didn't look at my bike at all during that time period. When I called after receiving the notification (on a Friday), they said the bike would be ready the next day. But I never heard a word from them. Finally, in my 4th interaction I got an accurate timeline for the bike And finally have my bike back. When I picked it up, I asked if they could offer me a discount (on $300 worth of services) for my frustration. Frustration which everyone that I spoke to at the shop agreed was reasonable (Since multiple verbal agreements with me were made with her were not upheld on the shop's end). He said "sorry no" so here we are. Can't recommend. I'm a pretty non confrontational person and wouldn't write a negative review if I thought my experience was reasonable. I was trying to help a neighbor pump up the tires on her wheel-chair. I tried a pump, went to the gas station, went to a tire shop, to no avail. Then I went to Conte's for help. Absolutely amazing. In a period where it's hard to get someone to even answer the phone (in person), I found Will and Kelsey. These are some friendly people. It was refreshing. And while I started to explain my situation and learn a bit about wheel-chair tires, they had the tires inflated. It turns out the tires were never inflated properly - they are now. I was a City Bikes loyalist until they closed down, and while they recently opened back up on the Hill, I wanted to give Conte's a try. I went in today to have a back rack installed and they were speedy and friendly. One of the staff from Capitol Hill Bikes is here now, and he's full of helpful advice. They have a nice selection of everything from small accessories to panniers, and the shop has a nice, open feel. Plus, rack installation was only $15! In short, I'll be back! read more

Contes Navy Yard had tuned up my bike a few months ago. Just recently the brakes started acting up. Contes adjusted the brakes for free while I waited even though The 90 day warranty had probably run out. They also spotted a safety issue they corrected. Good service with a smile. read more

Long Post But Please Read and PLEASE SHARE! I took my bike to Conte's Bike Shop to have it inspected to see what was needed to get it up and running. Well to my surprise all it needed was tires. So, the tech ordered the tires (I watched him). I was told that it would take 2 weeks for them to come in. After third week I had not heard from anyone I went into the store to get an update. Initially they couldn't find my bike. After waiting over 20 mins my bike was found BUT had not been touched. The tech apologized and promised that he would have the tires put on before close of business that day. I left to have dinner with a friend and while at dinner I received a call from the tech. He was not going to be able to keep his promise because the wrong tires were ordered. He then goes on to apologize with the excuse "My bike is a unique bike" (No sir I don't care how unique it is your tech inspected the bike before ordering the tires). So I wait again for the new tires to be ordered. Another few weeks go by and I don't hear from them. Soooo once again I go into the store to get an update on my bike. I ask to speak to the manager. The gentleman I was speaking acknowledged that he was the manager. I give him a recap and let him know that I was here once again to check on the status of my bike. Of course an apology came again. He the. tells me that it's been hard for them to find parts for my bike due to COVID. I explain to him I understand that but my biggest issues is I have to keep coming into the store to get an update. They have my number so at this point I just want my bike so I can take it somewhere else and I'll be writing a horrible review. He goes to look for my bike. Of course it takes a minute. He comes back without my bike. He then tells me that he was just informed that over the weekend they received a donated bike and the tires are a perfect match. He would install the tires (no cost to me) and I could take my bike home that day. I agreed and told him I would be back because I was another appointment. Just before closing I returned to the store. Stood in the long line waiting to retrieve my bike. The manager comes out see's me and heads back to get my bike. These are the tires that we're given to me. At this point I was beyond done. I just took my bike and left. For all that I had gone through this was the pay back I was given. These tires look worse than the original tires and I am afraid to even ride on them. This is the customer service you get from Conte's at "The Yards" (Non Black business-for all those who are always talking about bad customer service from black businesses) In the "New DC" Guess what bike shop I will NEVER patronize again..I hope you join me! Huge thanks to the team for helping get my daughter's hand-me-down bike safe and roadworthy so quickly and for a great safety check/annual maintenance on my new-to-me Yuba Mundo. Interestingly, another bike shop sent me to Conte's. Was looking for a hybrid after riding two different bikes; mountain and road. Did lots of research and spoke w/ mechanics and sales folks. Ended up on a Giant Toughroad SR. First- sales and mechanic staff spent easily 2+ hours w/ me over the course of the buy answering questions, trying different bikes, and exploring pros/cons of different brands/models/types. Kudos to the Cathedral Heights store for their patience, kindness, and bike insights. 2nd- had the bike transferred to the Navy Yards store (easy location for me) where Riley (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) did a fitting. She was exceptionally knowledgeable and spent lots of time providing explanations, tweaking fits, and making recommendations. We put on a much better seat, adjusted my cleats and pedals, and positioned my seat more effectively. My first long ride on the bike was so much more comfortable on this bike then both my other bikes. I attribute that to the fitting and recs from Riley. 3rd- I shopped around. Prices were as good as it gets even compared to online. Plus I got professional and courteous service. I ordered a rack and when it came in, I stopped by almost unannounced and they quickly installed it, found some minor adjustment and cable issues, and immediately corrected them, all very quickly. The mechanic was excellent and offered some good insights. So I became a quick fan of Conte's. Reasonable prices, very good customer service, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Will likely skip the online shopping as I continue to outfit the bike b/c Conte's discounts new gear for new bike buyers, making pricing extremely competitive AND they install it at no extra charge. It's nice to find a brick and mortar store that does such exceptional work- Thanks! read more

If your a riding enthusiast, I would think twice before doing business with Conte's. Pros: -Convenient location -Clean floors -Tailored to New Riders Cons: - There store only targets new riders. - Everything is overpriced. - Not much in terms of merchandise aside for new bikes. - Awful return policies. (only provide store credit or gift cards) - Untrained staff. - They change out their front staff every few months, so you can't build trust with the shop. Conte's Bike Shop is a convenient shop in Alexandria, VA that's on my regular riding paths. I typically swing by there to pick up a few items in preparation for longer rides and even bought some expensive riding electronics. However, to put it simply, they don't care about their customers - and they're annoyingly only interested in pushing their own inventory and services. As a matter of fact, I mistakenly decided to choose them to do some maintenance on my bike for a part upgrade for the very first time. The work order wasn't successful due to me buying a incompatible part. But instead of helping me find a alternative, they had the audacity to charge me for labor without explanation as to why it didn't work and then heckle me for not buying parts at 25% mark up from their store/suppliers. They did not even know what the issue was... and they thought I should trust them to select parts for me... Yeah right... Bottom line: If your not interested in buying bikes, Conte's has no interest in you or building a relationship with you. Customer service is seriously lacking. After all this, I will no longer be a customer of theirs. read more

Yet not going the extra mile for loyal customers, dismissing customer knowledge and technical savvy, providing substandard bike-build service/maintenance, giving typical bike shop snobbery and arrogance, and not taking ownership for a mistake all seem to make the list of priorities for Conte's Bike Shop. A recent episode with Conte's Bike Shop after it installed the incorrect components on a custom build has been the worst in my 35 years of serious cycling. Maddening experience. Despite its convenience to home and work,I will never spend my hard-earned money in this bike shop again. Adios Conte's. If you're looking for a new bicycle or service to an existing one, I strongly recommend giving Conte's a pass. Take your business to Spoke's, Etc. Extremely good service and no pressure sales. Keith was highly knowledgeable and willing to take through options for both my girlfriend and I as we made this investment, explaining what different features meant and what were a match for what we were trying to do with the bikes. We have been to other shops where either the employees are apathetic or pushy, but Keith was neither and provided overall a great experience. This Conte's is on what has become in recent years a very developed and very congested street; best to walk, bicycle, or motorcycle there, because street parking is hard to come by. Not much merchandise on the sales floor except bikes for sale. If you like rummaging through a clearance box/section, or looking at bike lights, bells, fenders, tires, chains, seats, etc., this is not your store. There is almost nothing set out, so the store is not self-serve. It's nice to patronize a local store instead of buying online but you will understandably pay a bit more, and have to physically go to the store for a transaction. To me having piles of merchandise on rows of shelves to examine firsthand are the reason to go to a store, but this store is pretty bare. read more
