I have had my second appliance repair completed by Continental Appliance Co. The first was a warranty call for my SpeedQueen washer in 2019. This time there was no warranty, I paid for the parts and service, and it was also a great experience. Responsive, and after a site visit to our home in the East Bay to confirm the parts, they quickly ordered the parts needed. This time it was to replace our 11 year old KitchenAid refrigerator door gaskets. The parts were received in only a few days and Sal and assistant were in my home 30 minutes after a call to confirm the arrival. Work was done in 45 minutes. Sal double and triple-checked the the door gasket was fitted and sealing correctly before the job was completed. A+ Service, again. BTW, during the site visit I asked Sal about replacing the door 'flapper' (he called it- the flap that closes between the refr. doors) since it was not working. I could only open the right door and then the left. Rather than sell me and install a new one he showed me how to lubricate it and now it works like new! Nothing but issues with my Summit refridgerator... worked with two other repairman (paid their bill but nothing was fixed) so called Summit for qualified repairmen. Sal at Continental came out and found and fixed my problem. That teeny tiny bit of lint floating in the air made its way into the super teeeeeeny water funnel causing a frozen water situation that kicked my freezer's butt. I've been working with this company for about 2 years now. I ran a property of 196 units and we had many refrigerator issues. Sal has help us diagnose many of our appliance issues. He is very honest, he will tell us how much he would charge for part and labor, he then will tell us where else we can get the part (for cheaper) and he can install it and or many times he has even taught my maintenance team on how to fixing it and finally he will even tell us that the cost of the repair is greater than a replacement. I don't know many vendors that will do that, given they can loose clients. I can see that Sal loves what he does and he takes joy in sharing his knowledge. I've continued to use their services for dishwasher, fridge and oven repairs. There is a service charge for his trip, I believe it's worth it from the outstanding and lasting service he provides. I have an apartment in San Francisco and have Samsung appliances. In the span of a month, both my freezer and my dryer had need of repair (thankfully under warranty!). My warranty company assigned Continental to the repairs. From the first point of contact with Nita (sp? sorry!) and Sal, I just knew I was in good hands. They followed up in a timely manner, fixed the appliances so they're at peak performance again, and did so in a timely manager. Both Nita and Sal were just a pleasure to talk to. I even asked their opinion on future appliance purchases and got some helpful advice. Poor service. I hired them as referred by my appliance warranty. They refused to fix my dishwasher warning that they won't take the risk of damaging the floor which was baseless. Both my tenant and I had to repeatedly assure that we take the responsibility, they finally fixed it. As for my range, they didn't even diagnose the real problem with the excuse that it is drilled to the floor. I ended up hiring a reputed repair shop with 5 star reviews to do the same job and surprise ... they gave no such excuse at all. Lesson learnt, spend a little more and get someone with great reviews instead of settling for sub-par service from this type of shops. read more

Everyone I talk with there is courteous and professional. This company is a hidden gem. Yelp for some reason describes it as CLOSED in one listing. It's very much open. I had a tough problem to fix with my washing machine. Turns out (after two visits from Sal) that it was an off-center agitator drum(?) on my four-year-old Speed Queen washer. It's now as good as new. I look forward to it lasting a very long time. Bonus: Sal called back to make sure all problems were fixed. Who even does this nowadays! He also showed me how to load clothes into the agitator type machine to avoid it getting unbalanced in the future. read more

Nita and Sal provided A+ service. My SpeedQueen washer had a defective transmission which needed replacement. Sal was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and meticulous in removing the old transmission and putting in the new one. It was a complex and time consuming job, yet they charged me a reasonable set fee, no matter how long it took to get the job done. They saved me the cost of needing to purchase a new washing machine. Nita (the office mgr) and Sal provided something you don't see much of these days... they truly cared and wanted to help, and wanted it to be reasonably priced for the consumer. Terrible. My Frigidaire dishwasher arrived with a dent on the front panel. I called Frigidaire and they contracted Continental Appliance to replace the panel. The appointment was only 5-10 minutes for them to diagnose exactly what I told them on the phone, but the employee decided to kick my dog when she was barking at him (she's five pounds). He later apologized after my girlfriend was questioning him as to why he did that. This was back in the first week of February. I figured that it was going to take about a month to get the panel. Three months later, still nothing. Haven't heard anything from Continental. I called Frigidaire again today letting them know I haven't heard from Continental. After contacting Continental, Frigidaire assigned a different company to provide me with the panel. I assume that Continental never ordered it. The new company called me and told me it was only going to take TWO DAYS to get the replacement panel! TL;DR: Continental Appliance never ordered the part after kicking my dog and diagnosing what I told them over the phone. If Frigidaire tries to have your warranty repair done by this company, ask for someone else. There are others. read more

Unbelievably, these douchebags are the ONLY authorized repair company in San Francisco for Frigidaire commercial laundry machines. So I called them. They came out, did not fix the problem, and charged me $100+ for the privilege. Then they said if it's still broken, I need a part. I tried to order it AT LEAST 5 TIMES, and they always said they'd call when it showed up. They never did, and it never did. Terrible service. Their guy was uncommunicative. He arrived 20 minutes early for a 4-6 appointment and we were stuck in traffic, so we had the doorman offer him the key to let him in. This business could be an SNL Skit, but it's a little hard to laugh when you are trying to fix a dishwasher that is spewing sudsy water on to your kitchen floor. Run away from this place! The skinny: The first time we called Continental Appliances, it was because they were one of only 2 shops in SF listed as a licensed repair shop for Bosche appliances. Continental came out and actually ripped siding and other important working elements out of our brand new dishwasher that turned out to be totally unrelated to the problem. Not only did the NOT fix our dishwasher, they actually broke parts that were fine to start with. Then, after we let this guy in to our home who swore in front of our 2 year old, lost his temper and banged up our dishwasher in the process, Continental told us they would send the guy that "really knew" Bosche. Excuse me !?! I have to give them credit for fixing their mistakes (after much negotiation) and given limited choices, we tried again recently. This time, we were advised that the soonest they could send someone out was five days out. When I asked why it would take so long, they advised with a thick Russian accent that they were "too busy" and that I should "wash (my) dishes the old fashioned way!" Instead, I called Mars Appliance Services in SF. They came out that day and a nice guy named Slevin, the son of the owner, talked me through the whole issue with great technical knowledge and fixed things with a smile. The service fee was $60, which was $15 less than the visit fee quoted by Continental. Then, when I called back to cancel my appointment (still next week!) with Continental, the lady with the accent said, "Good! Now we are so busy, I need customers to cancel!" Why didn't I read these Yelp reviews before calling Continental? Perhaps it's because I got their name off of the Frigidaire website as an authorized repair dealership. I'll give you a reader's digest version of my experience. Missed work one day waiting for them, they came the next day, promised repair in 3 days, good price for part. Daily calls from me to see if it's in...instead I waited over 18 days and lost two more days of work...from more no shows. I finally walked into the storefront and asked for the money I put down for the part I prepaid. (though the $95 service charge for house call is lost.) I feel sorry for the office support...obviously they're not to blame, as an old saying goes, "the fish stinks from it's head"...the owners are money-hungry, unethical people, and they make the workers take the blame. Dina, one of the owners, claimed her company is well-run and reliable. what about the awful yelp scores? she blames her technicians, not herself (have you even thought of firing them if they aren't good?). She also points out that the one scathing yelp review from the disgruntled employee (who reviewed them in Jan '09) is to blame for their bad score. Wow, that's interesting math...you mean that they get an average of 1.5 stars from 16 reviews because of one person? Stay away, stay away, stay away. read more

Everyone's appliance is different so, therefore, a pretty wide range of opinions here but...I thought Continental was great. We've got 3 10 year old under the counter Sub Zero refrigerators in the house (they were built in before we bought it) - apparently they're $4,000 a throw which was an unpleasant surprise. One of them has been on the fritz recently and I wasn't in the mood to spring for a huge replacement cost. Giovanni, who fixed it, came twice - knew what he was doing, found a money saving way to fix the problem, was absolutely on time, even put up with the dog sniffing around all the time and left me with a small bill and a working refrigerator. And the scheduling on the phone was easy and patient as my calendar kept moving around. "Invective", the term used by Dan J. about the trolls and sourpusses here, is the right word... We have used Continental Appliance for years, and they _always_ have been very good: right price, punctual, polite and thorough -- several times they have come up with imaginative and money-saving fixes for our appliances, when other outfits have tried to hook us into expensive replacements. Today for instance we finished a marathon servicing on our oven, a very tight wall install beneath our cooktop from which we regularly spill water onto the circuitry beneath. And the unit is old: 1992 -- nearly 20 years -- ancient history in our throwaway economy -- but we didn't want to spend $1500+ for a new one, and we definitely didn't want to spend $2500++ tearing apart our kitchen counters and carpentry to accommodate some new 1/4 inch measurement we hadn't counted on. So, as we have in the past for our stack washer/drier, equally tight fit, and other appliances, we called Continental... The phone help was wonderfully efficient and friendly and helpful. Finding parts, for the old oven, became an issue, and they and the Internet and we all worked together on finding correct fits and good deals -- and their repair people are busy, and so are we, so their "2-hour window" scheduling and coordination, and good use of cellphones & calendaring, were invaluable. The repair people, as before, were superb: most of all, they were patient -- they came back several times, when solutions didn't work out or additional parts needed ordering, always remembering to fone-on-arrival to my off-prem-but-nearby office as I'd requested so I could let them in -- they tried several configurations, traced circuitry, cleaned & filed & sanded, and finally got the thing working again. Instead of the very expensive part we'd feared we'd need -- another firm simply would have ordered it and billed us -- they used an alternative which saved us $. We spent under 1/3 of what we'd have spent to buy a new unit, and far less than that if the counter & cabinet remodeling for our kitchen tight-fit is included. We recommend these folks highly. Wet circuitry & corrosion & grease buildup & rust require patience & persistence, which I bet the critics here just do not have. Continental are real "repair" people -- others will just bait & switch you into buying something new, for $, and then spending $$$ on urban tight-fit remodeling. read more

My 12 year old dishwasher kind of died on me, it wasn't cleaning dishes well at all. I called Continental early thus morning and they were able to get me an appointment for the same day!! Sal, who was wonderful, knowledgeable and extremely friendly came out at 3:30 (the exact time I was told he'd be here) and fixed the problem with my dishwasher. It now works perfectly. I highly recommend Continental. They are terrific and reasonably priced. Ask if Sal is avalanche cause he's terrific ! DONT't PAY ANY MIND YO THOSE VERY OLD OUTDATED BAD REVIEWS!! read more

Service is horrible. 8 weeks ago the warranty company called them to repair a fan on my stove. The first visit, a week after I called, instead of fixing anything, he stated I just came out to verify that it was the fan. Then he ordered a part, came out to install it but had an incomplete part order. He then bent the existing fan making the stove work less efficient. Yesterday was the third visit and after taking a hacksaw and tin snips to the existing fan, the stove is completely useless. He then realized that they ordered the wrong part. However, yesterday they promised that they would order the right part and have it overnighted. Today, I get that the part did not even get ordered. They are also not clean and leave a mess behind after working on your appliance. Run away from this business! You will be happy that you went elsewhere. read more

The door on my frigidaire refrigerator doesn't hit the light switch because it is sagging. I go on the frigidaire website and it refers me to continental appliance. Continental comes out and wedges paper under the legs of the fridge and charges me 80 dollars to do so. When this doesn't fix the problem I call back and they say the warranty on the work has expired so they charge another 80 dollars to come and put wedges of paper inside the light, and said they would order the spacers. Three months later no call no spacers, I called in today and they said that the guy who wedged the paper in the fridge had someone else's washer and dryer drop on his hand and so they have no record of whether he picked up the parts. All this for a $4 piece of plastic. Basically this place is trying to screw you. read more

I agree with a previous reviewer. The negative reviews on this site are outdated. I recommend clicking the "date" tab whenever looking at reviews on yelp. I purchased a Fridgedaire washer and drying from Airport Home Appliance in Redwood city last Christmas. The dryer stopped working last month. This company was recommended by Fridgedaire as a licensed repair group. I called to schedule an appointment on November 22. The next available appointment was December 2, understandable given the holidays. My appointment was 4-6pm. Sal called to see if he can come early, which was great since I was home. He was very professional, replacing the part and having it ready within an hour. I expected him to say it needed a part that didn't have on hand and would have to come back (which most companies do). Had a problem with a warranty repair with this company when Frigidare sent them out when some appliance were band new ( not showing up, weeks late to get parts). I finally made the store swap out the stove. Now I call for a refrigerator repair one month out of warranty. Frigidare refers to the this same company and I get the same guy on the phone. I used these guys to service my new Bosch oven still under warranty. It was a simple fix that I could figure out: replace the hinges on the door. I called Mars Service first (the other Bosch service company in SF), and the guy told me that it wasn't a problem, and he won't replace it. The symptom of this problem, by the way, was that after the oven heated up, so much hot air escaped from the top of the door that it would make the stove dials too hot to even touch for more than a second. It's not a problem, you frackin' idiot? Anyway, after the dude from Continental came by, he diagnosed it in just under 5 seconds, and then after coming back with the part, he fixed it in just under 10 minutes. read more

Do not hire! If referred to by a manufacturer's warranty, request another company! Nice people, but incompetent. My Frigidaire dishwasher broke (less than 1 year old), so their customer support connected me with Continental. They quickly came to diagnose the issue and told me that they were going to order three parts. Everything seemed good so far... However, after three weeks of waiting for a call back, I proactively got in touch. The parts had not arrived; I suspect Continental had not even ordered them yet. After two more weeks, Sal finally came with the parts to fix the dishwasher. This time, his excuse was that Frigidaire had not sent the right parts!! They promised me that they were going to speak with Frigidaire, get the order corrected, and call me back in a week. After a week without a word, I called them. Continental told me that they had received the wrong parts again!! It has now been six weeks that my new dishwasher has been broken. I am sure the blame for this incompetence and terrible service should be shared by Frigidaire, but ultimately Continental has failed to deliver. Frigidaire has assigned a new service provider to my case, and I am hopeful it will be resolved soon. read more

If you need any repair, call Continental Appliance and ask for Sal. You won't regret it. Our laundry dryer was broken. It sat there for months. We initially called a repair company with 5 stars on Yelp. The repair guy spent two hours and still couldn't fix it. He charged me and said I needed to replace the motor, which would cost $412. I literally gave up thinking to buy a new one, until I decided to get a second opinion. Sal answered the phone and he helped me diagnose over the phone. Sal was right. The motor was not broken at all. All we needed to do was to shut down electricity and turned it back on just as we often reboot a computer to fix something. Sal saved us hundreds of dollars, more importantly the headache of replacing an appliance. He did all that free of charge. Prior to that, I spoke to many repair companies. It seems many of them were trying to make money out of you. I felt I had to learn all the parts so I know what they're talking about. Sal is honest, professional and very kind. This place is completely awful. We have four people living in our home including a 10mo baby, and we have been without a refrigerator for two weeks. My landlord had the stupidity to call upon Continental Appliance. It would be funny if I wasn't going without a fridge and freezer for two weeks. In fairness to my landlord, I think she didn't know what she was getting into by calling on this business. Apparently what happens when you call Continental Appliance is: You get promises that they'll help you "soon," but no actual service. No call to follow through. Not even a response to say, "We're backed up, but will be getting to you in X timeline." They selfishly say that they're getting back to us so we won't go somewhere else. But that apparently isn't until a long, long time from now. I suggest you save your energy and not deal with this lousy and unresponsive place. This place is terrible. We have been without a fridge now for 5 weeks. Me, my husband and 3 kids. Giovanni has come out 5 times and my freezer & refrigerator still not working.
