I went for contouring makeup to Zavia for an event but she ruined it completely. I had to go home wash off and redo my makeup myself. I thought she was trained and expert but she is not. Her makeup item looks expired and very dirty. I broke out into blemish and rash the next day. I can go on and on about this horrific experience, which gives me an ulcer every time I think of the day. Zavia Ross the owner and stylist of Contour Beauty Bar showed up 3.5 hours late on my wedding day. Her contract stated that she would send a replacement if for any reason she would not be able to show up on time, but she didn't send a replacement. Instead I spent the morning of my wedding day attempting to call her multiple times because she was late but she would never pick up her phone, only send me text messages saying she was "on her way" and kept me waiting for 3.5 hours. She caused myself, my family and my bridal party a lot of distress on my wedding day, which is otherwise supposed to be a happy day. When she finally arrived and started doing my hair and makeup, she was rushing so the quality was not as good as when she did the trial. She was supposed to do hair and makeup for my sister and mom, but she did a very unsatisfactory job so they both ended up doing their own revisions to the makeup and hair. I missed out on taking pictures with my bridesmaids and parents before the ceremony because of her lateness as we were all rushing to get ready when she arrived since the ceremony was only an hour away. It was extremely unprofessional of her to show up late. Especially when I had already paid her over $800 in full before the wedding. You would think she would have the decency to give me a refund, but instead she argued with me and gave me a $45 refund. No matter how good a stylist is, if they going to show up late on your wedding day, its NOT worth hiring them. You want to hire a stylist that is not only good at what they do but someone who is professional and reliable. read more

I texted with the owner, Zavia, on Jan 8 about getting my hair and my makeup done and drawing on a mask for a formal company party. She agreed to do it, had me go online and make the reservation. On Jan 12 I texted with her again asking about what I need to bring and she responded. On the day of my event, I had a 3:30p appointment to give her enough time to do everything so I could get home and enough time to dress and get on my way by 6:15p. I texted her the day of the event around 11:29am asking if she had facial glue for the mask and never heard from her. Then she texted me at 3pm the day of the event to tell me she had to fly out to St Louis and wouldn't be back until Tue. Ummm what?! She didn't get anyone to fill in for her. Instead she gave me a suggestion of a place. Mind you, I needed to be seen in like 20 min. No explanation on why this happened. Well I was just on Facebook and saw she posted on Jan 22, days before my appointment, that she would be out of the state at an event. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see this until now because I was fasting from Facebook. So instead of her letting me know in advance on Jan 21 or Jan 22 when this was posted that she would need to cancel my appointment, she waited until 30 min prior to my appointment to let me know through a text instead of a phone call I might add. I could see if this was something I could reschedule, but the event was that night in 4 hrs of when she texted me. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL and I would NEVER EVER RECOMMEND HER SERVICES. read more

Came here to get my makeup done for prom. Started off with high hopes but somewhere down the line my makeup veered into jersey shore territory. My foundation was 2-3 shades too dark, my eye makeup was overdone and made me look cheap, my lip color was a hot firetruck red when I asked for something completely different - it was just not at all classy and what I wanted. It's called the CONTOUR beauty bar, but the artist's sister (yes not the person I thought was going to do my makeup...instead her sister came in to help her that day) put some dark foundation and some blush on me and called it a day. Zavia, who did my hair, left it sticky with hairspray, flat, oily, and frizzy all at once. I showed her a picture of a SPECIFIC style and she basically just blow dried my naturally curly hair and curled it. I honestly looked like a hot mess and was so embarrassed when I saw multiple people I know come into the salon and chat with me. I am someone who is very soft-spoken and does not like to make a ruckus, so I decided to just go home and wash my hair and face and redo it all myself. This experience almost ruined one of the most important events of my life, but thankfully after doing myself, with the help of my sisters, I looked 100 times better and was able to enjoy my night.
