Came here with some friends for one of their birthdays and boy howdy was this a half baked hodgepodge of an escape room. I won't reveal any of the "secrets" about the Sole Survivor but there isn't anything to reveal because our group figured out all of the tasks by just touching items to other things to get through the rooms. There was no consistency in the setting or theme of the rooms. The themes included were a cross between Japanese Anime, Egyptian, Aztec, and Catholic. The audio for it was too quiet to hear, which we were warned about, but it didn't matter because the audio instructions didn't play into the puzzles! The text clues that you found also were irrelevant because you could finish them by just touching stuff together! The story was incomprehensible. I'm not surprised they said that there was a 15% finish rate because we just got lucky. The only cool aspect of this escape room is that there was more than one room that you go in. Not worth $40 at all. Side note, they play "What it's like" by Everlast when you finish the escape room, which was so random and out of place it was the cherry on top of this dumpster fire. read more

First time to an escape room and had a really fun time. Challenging and unique set up. Creative sleuthing needed to escape. Great set of "rules of engagement" to make sure you don't waste time (eg no need to climb on things, etc). Even had an extra credit if you finished the main challenge early. We had a freaking blast! However, Mafia room: 1 and us: 0. We were on the last clue in the second room and ran out of time - but we laughed and enjoyed every second of it! It was the perfect gift from my spouse for the holidays. We went middle of the day and had the room to ourselves, which was a little difficult with just two people. We tried to escape from the Tiger's Eye room. It was a lot of fun trying! NO SPOILERS - the clues were creative and we keep talking about what we would do differently next time to escape. I believe that to be the sign of a good experience! Why not five stars? My initial impression upon arriving wasn't good. The guy who led the introduction to the room was monotonous and I had to ask him to repeat himself a few times since he was talking so fast and quietly. It would have been nice to have an intro with at least a little enthusiasm, and I felt awkward having to ask him to speak up. Also, we had to ask for clues repeatedly and wasted some precious escape time because it took awhile for whoever was running our room to respond to our request. The young woman that wrapped up our experience was much better at communicating and had a sense of fun about her. I would have appreciated that in the beginning. All in all, I would go again for the quality of the room, but wouldn't expect much from the staff. Also, there is a printout in the lobby saying to arrive 15 minutes early but that wasn't clear when I made our reservation online. Maybe I missed something, but it might save them some frustration if the reservation times included that 15 minutes. Good luck heisting the diamond! read more

Went there on 9/11/21. There were 4 of us. 2 of us had never done an escape room before. We did the Mafia Room. The 2 guys working the desk were very friendly and explained everything very well. The room was very fun and enough challenging. Def excited to try more rooms. read more

This was a literal awful experience we were hounded over and over by the front desk agent poking their head in and asking if we wanted hints after telling him no multiple times only for him to be rude to us after and smug saying "it must suck to find out you were so far off the solution" would've had a great time even failing if we were left to enjoy it but he hovered over us constantly and honestly ruined an experience that would've been really cool, the room was awesome and it would've been nice to come back and try it again picking up from where we left off but after reading the way the owner addressed bad reviews here on yelp and the way staff hovered over us I'll have to say this place just really wasn't right for us. I would not recommended just go spend a night at meow wolf so much more worth it for the same price. read more

I played the space room (Find the Margo) over Christmas break and had a great time! The room was incredibly high tech -- it felt like we were on the deck of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek! We did not have a positive experience here. During our visit, there were 4 significant malfunctions with the room during the first bit, and we following the directions (waving our arms) many times to get help. You would normally call them hints, but we realized after the fact that it was just issues that were already there and hadn't been fixed. After 29 minutes, I left the room and went to the front desk to get some help. There was no one there and I waited at the desk for a few more minutes before anyone showed up. Anyway, the reason for the bad review isn't for the malfunctions--it's because there was NO GAMEMASTER to solve the issues. They did help more during the last 20 minutes or so of the game, but being completely frustrated with broken equipment for the first 30 minutes with no-one to point out the broken stuff, standing at a desk, and scrambling for the final 20 minutes is not the experience that was advertised. 1. The fingerprint reader did not read the fingerprint. We must have tried it 15 times and eventually concluded we were doing something wrong. Turns out, it just doesn't work very well. After the game was over, the gamemaster had to try three times to "show us it worked". 2. There was a screwdriver in a bucket that was meant as a "key" for two broken locks. We had no way of knowing that and with no gamemaster to assist, this was pretty frustrating. These were $6 home depot locks that they could have easily replaced long ago. 3. The RFID reader malfunctioned multiple times--we did not realize it was just broken, and there was no gamemaster to confirm we had the right card so we could keep trying. 4. We went through the tone generator sequence like 4 times before giving up. The microphone does not accurately read the tone. It took some additional information to finesse the system, which we finally received after the gamemaster showed up almost 40 minutes in. Really, it was an extremely stressful experience for everyone. No one enjoyed it at all. It was my sister's first escape room experience, and I don't think she will ever visit one again. Based on my reading of other reviews, they probably generally tell people that it's a "difficult" room and not many people pass and they just weren't very good. At the end of the day, the puzzles are quite easy, but a lot of stuff is broken, and fiddling with stuff is what keeps you from getting through. We had all the right answers--we just didn't know it since there was no gamemaster to tell us that you had to keep scanning an rfid card, or clean the fingerprint reader and keep trying over and over, or that a screwdriver is used to open the lock. $180 for an honestly pretty terrible experience. I love escape rooms! And will keep doing them. My sister probably won't. This was just a bad experience at a place that's understaffed and has lots of excuses rather than solutions--kind of ironic for an escape room joint. read more

I've done over 100 escape rooms across California, New Orleans, Seattle, and Denver, and actively travel the US seeking the best escape rooms in the country. This review is catered primarily to jaded enthusiasts who have done a ton of rooms and are looking for something different from standard escape rooms. Plight of the Margo - 4/5 (A good room that we'd happily recommend to enthusiasts but..., rank 19 out 126). Plight of the Margo is like a majestic wild animal. It's incredible but extremely rough around the edges and an exhausting game. This room has the potential to be one of the best games in the United States given how high the ambition and scope of the game is, but it currently suffers a lot from polish and game flow issues. The owners should really look at trying to simplify the more tedious parts of the game and make it just a bit more accessible to everyone. In its current implementation, this is a room that I think enthusiasts will love as it's one of a kind and has ridiculous amounts of ambition despite its flaws. However, I can't recommend this to beginners at all, as they'd likely just spend the entire 1.5 hours lost. For beginners, I'd recommend doing some other rooms and getting some experience under your belt before attempting this. Set - The set was probably the most immersive spaceship set I've ever played, not only because of the general decor and props, but because of how interactive and physical the components felt. A ton of stuff in this room felt like a mechanical engineer decided "i have this idea for an amazing prop, and i'm going to build this no matter what, cost/practicality be damned", which is exactly the type of attitude that I as an enthusiast want to see in my escape rooms! This ended up being a double edged sword, since while plugging stuff in (and doing other mechanical tasks) to power stuff up was extremely cool, there were certain aspects of it that could have been made less tedious. There were also some components that felt like they were a bit too much and not worth the logistical issues that came along with it. If your intro video has to explain and stress 5 times how to handle a particular prop, maybe that prop isn't worth it. Puzzles - The puzzles were overall good, but had some super cool standouts that interacted with the cooler components of the set in great ways. The difficulty and game flow here was a bit too variable for my liking - you were presented with way too many options at the beginning of the game so it was very hard to orient yourself about what you're actually trying to do. This got easier over time but the first 25 minutes were brutal and we were fairly lost. It was also sometimes hard to figure out which components you are able to use at a given point in time, or if it was meant to be saved for later. Story - The room had a lot of neat lore and story elements attached, but the story felt a bit too much like it was telling you what to do rather than actually try to tell a narrative. It would have been more compelling if the sequences with the main character in the room actually made you feel some emotions for the character, rather than that character just telling you what to do. Still more story than what I'd expect in a normal room, but it could have maybe been improved with some more story sequences in the room and more narrative driven dialogue. Player Recs - This is a 3 hour room (split up into 2 parts) that is very involved - while I normally try to go below or at the minimum number of players, playing this game with 4 was exhausting, and you probably want at least 5 or 6 in a group of enthusiasts. It's really hard for me to recommend this game to beginners given the nature of the game, but you should probably bring closer to the max number of players. This was a first 'escape room' experience for all of us and we needed a little more than an hour to finish the challenge but it was a total blast! We all loved it! Best escape room you can book. My college age sons and my 80 year old parents enjoyed the Tigers Eye room! It was a super fun experience for all. First off, the technology is unmatched in the room we did (Tigers eye). Lots of good puzzles, clues and machines that operated autonomously. I tried the Tiger's Eye room at ConTRAPtions with a friend recently and boy, was it a ton of fun! If you're looking for something incredibly immersive, surprisingly realistic, and a nice change from doing one puzzle after another, definitely give this diamond heist a go. It's likely not the most suitable room if you're an absolute novice, but pretty doable by a reasonably experienced pair. The way they integrate technology and puzzles throughout the room is also impressively seamless - it actually legitimately felt at times like we were breaking into a real bank and getting through a security system, as opposed to being like 'solve this sudoku to get some combination lock number'. There was a lot of reading, deducing, working together, using common sense (which can be surprisingly uncommon) and thinking out of the box involved, and it offers a great experience for players who feel like they've seen it all and want to try something new. I won't spoil the surprise for other players, but I will say that there were a couple of solutions that gave us a good laugh when we figured it out. ConTRAPtions also has one other escape game - Plight of the Margo - that's supposedly even more impressive in terms of storyline and puzzles. The only thing is that you do need four players and 90 minutes to complete it. But if it's a similar standard to the Tiger's Eye room, then it's certainly worth trying out if you can find the people and the time! read more

I've only been to one other escape room before this and this one was much better. It had an actual bookcase door that slid on magnetic tracks. You have to order all of the hints to find clues and get out. I would recommend going in a group from 4-8 people so you have lots of clue finders. The clues got vaguer as you went and that made it more fun. Make sure you have mixed ages 8-50 so you have multiple perspectives on things. I went to the mafia one. There were 3 other ones available. Make sure that you listen to the clues literally and figuratively. Have fun! read more

I was very disappointed. There were several mechanical issues: 1) electrical connection kept falling out of the box which resulted in time delays; 2) electrical chord on the speaker that provided a tone need to unlock a clue came unplugged and caused approx. 20 minute delay Overall these problems resulted in over 30 minutes in time delays which resulted in frustration rather than working together to solve the problem and reach the goal. read more

Really fun!!! I went with two other friends and we were able to steal the tigers eye diamond and complete the bonus puzzle to steal the smaller diamonds. We were able to work well together in a small group, but it might be harder with a bigger group. Because there were only three of us we were able to communicate very well and easily move from puzzle to puzzle. In a larger group you may get in each other's way and miss important clues because of not knowing what other team members have already done. Still I definitely recommend this place. Hope to try their other room soon, and the new one once it is completed! read more

This is an amazing experience and so much fun! The mobster room is super high tech with cool locks, doors and puzzles while also having beautiful furniture and art. Everything is clean and classy and the employees are very nice and helpful. My wife and friends and I loved every minute of adventure!
