My 74-year-old mother was charged approximately $16,500 for a furnace and air-conditioning system and installation. After learning what she had paid, I became very concerned and began researching the cost myself. I obtained three quotes from reputable companies for comparable equipment, warranty coverage, and service, and those quotes were approximately HALF of what my mother was charged. I have worked in commercial purchasing for many years and have experience reviewing labor, material, overhead, insurance, warranty, and profit costs. Because of that experience, I contacted ARS directly and gave them an opportunity to review the pricing and work with us toward what I felt would be a fair resolution. ARS provided a breakdown that included: * $7,542 - Labor, including overhead, transportation, profit, insurance, administrative/financing costs and warranties * $1,775 - Technician/Salesman/Installer hours * $7,000 - Materials/shipping for the HVAC system * $125 - Permit * $100 - Haul-away/recycling The $7,542 labor-related charge plus another $1,775 for technician/salesman/installer hours totaled $9,317, for an installation that, to my understanding, involved two installers for less than an eight-hour day and a third person for only a short period of time. When I questioned these amounts, ARS explained that they use flat-rate residential pricing and that the breakdown was only intended to illustrate the broad categories behind their pricing. They ultimately told me they would not retroactively adjust or discount the contract price. I understand that companies are entitled to make a profit, and I understand that ARS may not be the least expensive HVAC provider in Omaha. My concern is the magnitude of the difference. When three other reputable companies can provide comparable equipment, warranty, and service for roughly half the price, I believe consumers deserve to know that before making a decision. What troubles me most is that this involved my 74-year-old mother, who was dealing with an urgent need for heating and cooling. Based on the pricing I subsequently obtained and ARS's unwillingness to meaningfully reconsider the amount after I brought my concerns to them, I personally feel that she was taken advantage of in a vulnerable situation. I attempted to resolve this directly with the company before posting a review. I wasn't asking them to perform the work for free or even to be the cheapest company in town. I asked them to take a serious look at the pricing and work with us toward something reasonable. They declined. I have worked with ARS professionally on the commercial side for years, which makes this experience particularly disappointing. My advice to other families is simple: Please get two or three competing quotes before signing anything, particularly when making an expensive decision during an emergency. If you have an elderly parent facing a major HVAC replacement, I would strongly recommend that a family member be involved before any agreement is signed. Had we obtained competing quotes beforehand, we absolutely would not have agreed to this price.

Run a way heater!!! service tech left saying " Well at least you got heating" got to turn the braker off though or my business burns down. Avoid using these guys.
