Their sale prices are good, though their everyday prices are high. It's definitely one of the best Jewel-Oscos I've ever shopped at.  I'm very lucky to be so close to this one.  It is always clean, and I always just feel very happy when I'm shopping in this store.  I also feel like I'm upper class when I'm shopping here, even if I'm really just a twenty something trying to make their way in the world.  The quality of the produce, meats, deli, and bakery are unmatched.  That part of the store is always immaculate and I typically want to buy everything in sight when I'm in this part of the store. The service is always excellent and today, when a long line formed in the express lanes, the managers reacted quickly to get extra help and handled all the checkouts I could see in a quick, efficient and courteous manner.  Bravo Jewel Osco! Great job.

The register rang it up as $5.99. The woman came over and asked if I used the app. I told her I scanned the bar code. She then asked me if I already bought on this week. No I didn't, she finally changed the price. In front of the registers there was a cooler said buy.1 get one free, lower price free on Dutchmade cheeses. Of course they rang up at full price $3.79. The woman used her phone and scanned the cheese and told me they weren't on sale but she would give it to me for free? Really like I am trying to steal from Jewel the way Jewel steals from people due to the inaccurate app. What a cluster. She ruined my day.

Anyway, everything about the store is a win for me. I love the selection of produce, but sometimes they do run very low on things. They do offer a lot of products that are hard to find elsewhere and the quality is always really good . I don't go out of my way for organic, but they definitely have a really big selection Since Covid, I don't do hot bars, but they're premade meals are decent like the prime rib for like 10 bucks I found some of the best deals on really high-quality meat I've never been good at cooking steaks, but grabbed a Wagyu strip steak there for half off and it was easily the best thing I've ever made my family like their plates. Yes they're savages, but even they don't usually go that far. They have great selections of cheeses and ethnic spices that are hard to find in an actual supermarket so it's nice not to have to go to 20 different places. I love to cook, which means sometimes I need small amounts of spices if I'm trying something new so it's nice to be able to get most of them there. I think they originated in Ohio, so it's nice to see some of the Kroger offering since I lived there as a kid so it's nostalgic. The neighbor people that hanging out with the bar freaked me out a little bit not gonna lie. I don't get it. I can get behind one and have a drink as you walk through a grocery shopping but to go hang out at the grocery store for no reason, but to sit there and drink as people try to navigate their carts around you... yeah.... Weird. Sorry. Now here's what I definitely don't understand. Their cakes are so underrated unless I've just been walking through life with sunglasses in the AirPods. I have never heard anyone talk about how good their bakery is. They have a huge selection of premade stuff that isn't really their brand but the cupcakes that are made in the store and the cakes they make are incredible. The frosting for their buttercream, you can tell has actual butter in it most grocery stores around here for buttercream seem like they use shortening. I think Mariano's is fantastic and will definitely consider them when I need to order cakes in the future. The people there are also really helpful. My favorite is the woman that supervises the self checkout. She's incredibly friendly and helpful. She doesn't always come across that way initially because she doesn't seem outgoing but she really is great. I definitely say just throw this on your list of regular spots to shop.

The produce section alone was worth it with stacks of fresh fruit and veggies everywhere and good competitive prices for everything and even samples available to try. Very helpful when it came to deciding whether the cantaloupe was worth it or not. I would even argue that the produce is better than at the Jewel AND Whole Foods down the road. The store is well-kept and clean throughout. The bakery, meat and cheese departments and the hot food/salad bar area are great. They have several made-to-order options that looked good and worth trying. Some of the standouts were the broasted chicken, pizza and sushi. For such a fresh looking assortment of dishes to be available at 1pm was a big enticement to come back to grab something for lunch next time I'm in the area. As far as grocery options I would be surprised if you couldn't find what you were looking for in such an expansive store. This is especially true when it comes to the huge variety of international cuisine options. All of the workers I had interactions with were friendly too.

But when you see 10 items on the shelf above the $9.99 sign, you would automatically think okay, it's $9.99, but at the register it's $12.99. I snapped a picture to prove that there were more than one box above the price. (I could have clapped back and said then your workers should read and be able to put things on the right shelf). Produce that's rotten is sold so make sure you are opening up boxes and packages. Wish I took pictures of the rotting produce. At least I didn't buy those. Saw my receipt that they charged $1.29/lb for my Korean radish which should have been 79 cents. UGH! Guys, pay attention to how they are ringing you up. Two transactions in a row with multiple mistakes. I asked to talk with the manager. The female worker said she is not here and will come at 12noon. Then said actually will come tomorrow. Went to the Customer Service desk and the guy there said the manager is in the bathroom. Both workers started to talk to each other in Spanish. The female worker telling him, tell her the manager is not coming back until tomorrow. I told them I can speak Spanish and I understood everything they said. They got quiet very quickly. There's a halal butcher and just a plain butcher, about which as a vegetarian I can tell you nothing, a bakery, and a Latin American and Indian mini-cafe. The produce section is very crowded (and offers a wild variety with some excellent specials), and the endcaps on the aisles extend into the aisle, meaning in several places there's only room for one cart and you'll have to excuse yourself to get where you're going. Be prepared. I was impressed by their selection of organic spices and they also had some organic Asian noodles (buckwheat and soba). They also have a good selection of Latin American groceries, including huancaina sauce from Peru (yes!), frozen plantains and Guarana soda. I've seen larger selections of Indian and Eastern European products at dedicated specialty groceries, but no one else in the area carries it all. Many, many different types of flatbread and a wide selection of Middle Eastern sweets; various dry pulses; various types of candy; pearled farro and more versions of burek than I've seen before, including a "vegan be'f". The Indian mini-cafe is half vegetarian, half non; the Latin American one has various kinds of filling in carbs, and if you're vegetarian, all they have is cheese - though the fried corn-dough empanada, cheese in an eggroll like wrapper and pastelito (cheese in pastry) offered various textural delights. This is a haul for me, and I usually try to avoid I-59 but this place might be worth a special trip.
