Came here to usher in the holiday week and another engagement celebration with dear friends. If you don't find street parking, park in the parking garage and walk right out to the restaurant. Great spot downtown for date night or gathering of friends. Service is good and plenty of seating even on a busy Saturday night. Great cocktails to go with their appetizers. Recommend the Tropic of Capricorn, Fireside Vinyl, China Cwt Sunflower or the classics of Paper Plane and Expresso Martini. They did offer several options for dietary restrictions like gluten free so the babe was ecstatic. Love the blue crab cake which was surprisingly gluten free. Wish they served more than one. Right?!?! I wanted to try the escargot but no one wanted to indulge with me. Online showed a little more variety like gnocchi and rack of lamb. However the menu is pretty straightforward in person. You either have NY steak, chicken or catch of the day. We split the steak and ordered the sautéed mushrooms, carrots and butternut squash as sides. I needed to kill some time before my Cirque du Soleil show at 7pm at Ball Area. As I wanted to avoid a hefty parking fee of $30+ near the site, I chose a parking space in a building on Wewatta and Speer that was more than half of what those expensive parking places charge. Coincidentally, my parking was in the same building as Coohills. I simply couldn't think of any other place to stop and have a little cocktail and a light meal than this French restaurant I once utilized close to 10 years ago. In a way, it was an opportunity for the to re-appreciate this forgotten establishment. I, all of a sudden, got so excited thinking about a delicious French wine and an appetizer plate or two. The time was a little after 5pm. The restaurant was still slow for the regular patron crowd (although there was a party of about 15-20 where they reserved their little room to the right.) I was warmly greeted by the man at the reception desk. Upon telling him that I was by myself where I would just need a bar seating, he immediately escorted me to it. I appeared to be the first diner for the night as if to say that I had the whole bar to myself. It took me for the bar staff to assist me as they appeared to be busy with making cocktails for the large party. I was patient though. Eventually two bartenders (a female and male) took a notice of me and assisted me with the happy hour menu (the regular menu was handed to me by the man who took me to the bar.) They were friendly and welcoming. The male staff walked me through tonight's special. They all sounded good and yet I was only looking to have some light meal (as I didn't want to show up to the Cirque du Soleil show with a full belly), I went with... 1) House EPI Bread with House Butter ($7) and, 2) Wild Mushrooms ($11) And to accompany my light dishes, I went with.... AIX, Cote de Provance Rose ($15 and yet during the happy hour, it was $2 off) I conveyed this to the male bartender. My perfect happy hour time finally began. -House EPI Bread (by the way, EPI appears to mean pain d'epi or wheat stalk bread is a rustic French loaf shaped to resemble a stalk of wheat) was a fantastic choice. Its presentation on a wooden long/skinny board was so French. The house made butter with some seasoning on it was truly the best accompaniment to the freshly baked bread. For a bread, I tend to fancy olive oil with balsamic vinegar more (well, this is more of an Italian way), the butter changed the whole game. As I have never seen a simple loaf of bread so beautifully presented in a very simple form, I am now obsessed with this bread. I finally found a place where they have the best house bread presentation! -Wild Mushrooms is a must item off the menu. A generous amount of garlic is what I tasted. And a noticeable amount of black vinaigrette did a nice harmony like a perfect dance danced by a male/female duo in the dish. This dish pairs so well with the bread. -Rose wine has been something I lately enjoy in my daily life more than ever. I used to undermine this pink wine varietal and I don't even know why that was. It's true; you can hit and miss for a rose wine and yet AIX (which I had seen it at various different liquor stores many times in the past) is more than a solid rose in my personal opinion. To be able to enjoy this rose wine at the price of $13 during the happy hour is a good value at a high-end restaurant like Coohills. The two appetizer dishes filled me up (I had to get a to-go container for the mushrooms though as it's a really good portion which two people can easily share; the same goes with the house bread as well but I finished this one.) I have decided. Coohills is now my go-to solo happy hour spot from now on. Although they do emit the high-end restaurant ambiance, you can casually walk in and have your little "me time" moment with no intimidation. If you've been looking for a restaurant like that, then go to Coohills. They also have a nice patio space; you can sit there as long as the weather cooperates. read more

I hosted a private event with 20 Board members and the space and team were perfect. From pre-planning communication being a total breeze, to the onsite support and level of service, to the amazing food, everything was great. We used the wine room and were comfortably able to fit 20 guests and have a fireside chat in the front of the room. We also started the evening on the patio, which was a great way to enjoy the weather. Although everything was amazing, the real standout is the service. I love this place because of the convenient location, friendly staff, good cocktails and creative dishes. The waiter took good care of us regardless. The food was yummy and we left feeling full. The restaurant gives the vibe of an upper grade restaurant with mood lighting and new century decor. What an incredible dinner! They have so many amazing gluten free options. We ordered the gluten-free crabcakes, which were absolutely incredible. I've never had crabcakes this delicious. We also ordered the aged tofu dinner that was incredibly and surprisingly delicious. We also had the fries and a salad, which all were spectacular. I've loved this place since it opened in 2011 -- and no less now. It's great for some charcuterie and wine (or cocktails) on your way to the Pepsi Center, or a nice romantic dinner, or just an outing with friends on their beautiful patio or in their elegant bar area. One of my favorites here has always been the crab cake that never comes off the menu. It's so packed full of flavor (one of the reasons being they use fish pâté as binding instead of breadcrumbs or flour -- also making it gluten free). Their cheese and meat selection is also always on point (and all the meat is made in house). We had the opportunity to come back to Coohills for dinner on New Years Eve after not being here since before the pandemic. The offering was a beautifully planned four course meal with wine pairings and everything from the customer service to the presentation of the food to quality was 5 stars. We started with the beef tartare which was served with two types of chips made in house. Perfect size for three of us and a teaser of what was to come. We all got the lobster bisque which was hands down the best lobster bisque I've ever had. The broth was a lighter broth but packed with flavor and the chunks of lobster were very generous. Second course was a branzino cooked to perfection. Third course was a bison short rib that melted in your mouth and topped with burgundy snails and served with broccolini. This was hands down the highlight of the dinner. The flavors were so rich and decadent and the paired wine completed the course. Last course for dessert was a ginger molasses cake topped with poached pears and was divine. We are SO happy we choose to have our NYE dinner here and regret not coming back sooner. I am from California and was looking for a venue to host my 50th birthday party in Downtown Denver for about 30 people on Saturday Feb 19, 2022. I had contacted many restaurants and Coohills was simply the best. They were quick to respond and they were able to accommodate a food allergy within our group. The booking process was professional and detailed with many great suggestions. The restaurant is in a great location for photos, with the bridge, walkway, parklike setting nearby. The restaurant has lots of natural light with the floor to ceiling windows and just a great overall vibe to it!! Upon our arrival the banquet captain, Chris greeted us and kept pace with our group throughout. Jeremy and the other staff were more than friendly and were able incorporate my music playlist (was not part of the original plan) into the room speakers. We also hired a magician to perform and the restaurant was able assist and accommodate him with what he needed to setup. Tom Coohill (chef and owner) also came out to greet us prior to the start of our event and informed he would be taking care of us. Very nice touch! The food was amazing!!! The salads were delightful with just the right amount of salad dressing. We ordered steak, chicken and fish family style and our entire group raved about each one was tasteful and we loved the complimenting sauces. The broccolini, glazed carrots and potatoes were our vegetable side dishes and were prepared perfectly!! Our desserts were fruit tart, chocolate mouse and bread pudding and again each one was delicious. Even after our departure, our whole group continued to rave about the restaurant staff and food and kept asking me how did I find them. At the conclusion of our event, Diane Coohill (owner) came into the room to meet me and thank us. (another nice touch!) I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant and their staff. The prices are totally worth the service and atmosphere. Recently went here for a work event and everything was incredible. There was a bunch of delicious appetizers: Arancini, fried goat cheese, crab cakes, steak, chicken skewers and Tater tots but the real star was a cheese and tarragon pizza. If you want a romantic dinner out at a French restaurant, do not come here. It is a bar that serves overpriced American fare. The atmosphere and waitstaff are all casual. My husband had called to reserve a special table to celebrate an occasion. There was nothing special about this place except for the prices. $17 drinks, $26 appetizers. The only French menu item was the Burgundy snails, which they didn't have. Our second choice was the tasting menu, which they also couldn't provide. I had the strawberry risotto which was warm at best and quite bland. I'm pretty sure they precook things like the scalloped potatoes and risotto and then microwave food before service. They were both mildly warm and had cold spots. The crab cakes and sea bass were good. But a single crab cake is not worth $26. read more
