Such a great fast food place! I love that you can build a tray and have a "main with two sides" but the sides can be full meals! My favorite burger is the double burger cheddar style but no bacon sub chili. Make sure you pick the chicken strips over the chicken nuggets. The quesadilla sauce is a must ask for. The drive thru has two entrances and the one on the left pulls up to the passenger window so if you're ordering for someone else, it comes in handy. I've enjoyed Cook Out in other cities but won't return to the West Ashley location. It was just bad, on a number of accounts. First, as a walk-up customer, I waited at least five minutes for someone to come to the order window (this location does not have indoor dining as some do). When the window opened the young lady inside just looked at me. After requesting clarification that I was in the right place to make an order, it took another ten minutes -plus to receive my food (two items). During my wait time two customers walked up, to the same window, to address issues with their orders, including a chicken quesadilla that was missing the chicken, apparently. The other customer seemed to get a lecture from the clerk, something like "I told you we were out of lettuce..." The young timid-looking customer just turned and quietly walked away. A third customer, tired of waiting, commented "this isn't looking good" and left. All the while (15 minutes or so), I'm smelling something burning that didn't smell like hamburgers or hot dogs. At first I thought it was coming from a car or two in the drive-thru lanes, but it persisted. Makes me wonder if the employees inside were just as cooked as the burger I finally received. Based on food alone I'd give the Cook Out chain a 3+ for the decent inexpensive meal and interesting menu choices; just not at this location. read more

When I give restaurants a star-rating, it is in comparison to other restaurants of their sort. For example, I would not compare a Taco Bell to a sit-down Mexican restaurant. As such, I am not comparing Cook Out to one of my town's fancier burger restaurants, I'm comparing it to other fast food restaurants. Solid 3-stars. One star because they have excellent prices for the amount of food you receive (check out the trays and the jr. trays!). One star because the food is pretty tasty for fast food! A third star because they are very efficient and fast with expediting orders at this location. The reason I won't give them 5-stars is because they aren't the best fast food burgers out there. They're good, but not "the best." I'm not giving this location 4-stars because I've been here twice, and twice they've messed up my orders. The first time, they didn't put all the toppings on my burger, but I figured it was a small error, as they were busy. No big deal. Tonight though, they left off the pickles on my burger, and they completely forgot the onion rings side for my son's jr. tray. Two mistakes in one order and messing up both times I came here means that I'll only be able to give them an average rating, which is 3-stars. We got really nervous when we decided to try this place. We are from Orlando, Florida and have never seen this restaurant before. But when we went, we saw that the drive through line was wrapped all the way around the building and it was incredibly busy. In our experiences with fast food in our area, if this is the case, a lot of mistakes are made and it takes forever. WE. WERE. IMPRESSED. They handled the line so incredibly well. I ordered my food she repeated it correctly then when I got to the window she hit lettuce instead of onion on a chili burger. When I notified of the mistake she just sat there with a long pause. I may have screeched when I noted a sign for Cook Out on the highway into Charleston from Savannah. It's been a....good number of years since my freshman year of college in North Carolina. I didn't have a car on campus but I always found ways to hitch rides to Cook Out for their milkshakes and hot dogs. I haven't visited since. As such, I obviously rerouted my friend straight to Cook Out. She was confused by my excitement. It was mostly nostalgia based, but I can say their cheap hot dog with mustard and Oreo milkshake were just the best fast food items I've had in a long time. Tremendous. You may even say fantastic. So, I don't get milkshakes, ice cream, dessert, out very often. Typically I eat a scoop of grocery store brand frozen yogurt out of the half gallon container each night in front of the TV to relax... but when my husband and I want a milkshake, Cookout is the place to go! Cookout is kind of elusive. There's no corporate website or Facebook... no happy meals with toys or big advertisements. If you google it, you can't find much beyond pictures of the menus (no caloric information, dieters) and reviews like yelp. They don't really advertise, I guess the milkshakes kinda sell themselves. The shakes are less than $3 and there are probably 40+ varieties to choose from. The Heath Toffee one is really good. You can go fruity, candy, chocolate, and they will customize it for you and combine the flavors if you're nice about it. No indoor seating but there is a double drive through. If it's a nice day you could pick up food and have a little picnic, but since we live close, we just drive off with our shakes... after paying the very nice, courteous staff of course. If you're hungry and want a lot of food for cheap, go to Cookout. I wish we'd had it when I was in college! But, we just go mainly for the milkshakes. read more

I don't understand all of the glowing reviews about Cook Out. Sure it fast and very inexpensive. But it's the inexpensive part which in turn affects the quality. Burgers are greasy and that's not a bad thing. But sitting like a brick in your stomach, is not to my liking. Staff can be hit and miss.
