I am honored to leave the first review for Charleston's very first Cookout. For those of you who do not know, Cookout is one of the greatest American traditions. Here, you may get a burger or a chicken sandwich. Sounds boring, right? Wrong. Here is where it breaks away from McDonalds or Hardee's. You may have two sides: a corn dog, a cheese dog, fries, onion rings, chicken wrap, sloppy joe, a quesadilla or chicken nuggets. That's right friends, for something like $5, you can essentially get three meals. And for $1 extra, you can get a milkshake, and they have 10000 flavors. I give Cookout the coveted 5 star award for having great food at a great price, and giving you great bowel movements the next morning. Enjoy, and make sure to sleep close to the bathroom! They have a tray deal here, which is THE best "I'm hungry and broke" deal you can find anywhere! Plus, it includes a drink! While their portions of nuggets are TINY (three nugs in a tray), their milkshakes definitely make up for it. I've had two pumpkin pie shakes already! December is nog month, so we will see how that one is! I really like that the staff is super friendly. This location has no seating (some do inside, like the one in North Chas/Goose Creek), but they do have the double drive through and the walk up window for ordering. Their food is served incredibly fast. I highly recommend their milkshakes which taste better than any others I've ever had at any restaurant. Their milkshake selection is also the best I've ever come across with 39 flavors. I like their Cherry Cobbler shake and also their Peach Cobbler shake. I also recommend their Out West Style Char-Grilled Hamburger. Their Cheerwine Float (w/ vanilla ice cream) is also delicious. read more

Stopped in for a quick dinner last night. Craving a burger with bacon and cheese and a side of fries. Apparently you get two sides, so I thought my wife ordered me mini-corn dogs, but when I bit in to it, there was no dog inside, and it was just a side order of hush puppies. Haha ... who knew? :-) The burger was pretty good, but next time I may add a tomato or lettuce because it was a little dry without anything but bacon and cheese. Fries were decent, and I finished the entire entrée with no room for dessert. Overall, easy access to the location from Skylark / Savannah Hwy, so easy to get "In & Out" for a burger :-) read more

I can confidently say that this was the worst fast food burger I've ever had. The patties were so small and very burnt. Also way too much mustard. I also asked for mayo on and there was none. The lady at the window was very rude and didn't say a single word to us. Her name was Nikeria. I do not recommend going to this cookout. Literally standing out in the cold for 20 minutes and have been looked at multiple times no one trying take an order or anything. A woman open the window to give someone and order and looks at me and just shuts it. It is 40 degrees out and they don't even attempt to take my order. read more

Food is always good, my biggest issue is that I always ask for light ice in my drink. They use the tiny ice cubes that leave little room for actual drink. First off when we pulled up to the drive thru window the employees were engaged in some kind of argument and were cussing each other out. Then my daughter had ordered a chocolate chip mint shake and our guess is the shake machine was broken which we were never told because her shake looked like a brown shake as if they had just poured chocolate ice cream into green or something. Anyways that went into the trash. Money wasted. And the nuggets were not the same nuggets they usually sell. Needless to say we will not be going back. Extremely disappointed. read more

Great place to eat! The prices are fantastic and the quality is even better!

There are two drive throughs at this location. We waited in one of the lines for 30 minutes before another customer told us that they were not serving out of that drive through. There were no signs or cones to block of the drive through and many other cars in front and behind us in line. None of the workers came out to inform any of us that they were not taking orders through that line. Please put out a sign or cones to block off that drive through if you are not using it. read more

Recieved one cold chicken sandwich with dried mustard on the wrapper, 4 small onion rings and a corn dog. I guess with the shortage of employees we are left with the dregs of entitlement mentality demanding increased wages for little to no effort. That's fine. Absolute incompetence. The workers hate their job and are loudly swearing and complaining. Our party of 4 ordered 3 trays with shakes, and another sandwich with onion rings and a shake. Absolutely none of our burgers were right-they were miserably wrong. Yuck. The sides were what we ordered-cheese bites are unpleasant. I've been to this location three times within the past month. Luckily for me I've encountered employee Trey every time as my server. I had to stop and write this review on account that every single time Trey has provided me above and beyond amazing service. Trey has awesome charisma and little did he know he brightened up my day with his positive attitude every time.If management reads this, give this man a raise. Burgers are chargrilled so better than some other fast food alternatives. They offer several sizes to suit your appetite too. I've only been twice so my experience is pretty limited, but several friends rave about the milkshakes. Prices are reasonable and service is fast. Unfortunately my cheeseburger all the way, except sub grilled onions for raw, came out without cheese and with all kinds of onions. At first I thought I must have received someone else's order, but checked the receipt and the server rang it completely wrong. I did enjoy getting a 99¢ large sweet tea however. read more

People tend to accuse active Yelpers of being foodies or snobs or (my favorite phrase) foodie douchebags. You tend to lose an appreciation for simple food amidst all the talk of wine pairings or Asian fusion or molecular gastronomy, which is a shame, because sometimes I just want to have some Domino's or Wendy's or Popeye's. Sadly, I live in Atlanta (hence, the lack of mention of Bojangles), because Cookout is one of those places that hits that note for me. Adding upon the simple premise of tasty fast food, Cookout provides pretty much the best milkshake menu ever, with all manner of different flavors to make my mouth smile and my lactose-intolerant stomach grumble and choke. Very good burgers! So what do you get when you take a hamburger meat, have it shipped to a small fast food joint that goes by the name of Cookout, cooked, put onto a bun, and wrapped in shiny foil? Well you get a Cookout burger and all of its deliciousness! Yes there are better burgers out there, but for the price you can't go wrong. The burger tastes as if you took that meat that was delivered to Cookout and instead cooked it on your own grill! While not the juiciest burger around (it is slightly not juicy), it tastes very homey! Fries are decent, but nothing to write home about (enough to write Yelp about though). Service is decent. My friend has been raving about this franchise, so on a visit to Charleston we had to make a lunch stop here. Their bbq sandwich is really good, just a hint of heat but I prefer it that way. I wish I could give 0 stars, or negative stars. My fiance and I went to the West Ashley/Charleston SC location at 2:30 AM to get dinner. We both work second shift, so you're just about the only place that's open after we get off work. They're supposed to be open until 3:00 AM, so there was still half an hour until you were supposed to close. We pull into the drive-thru, and it's obvious it was closed. We go on around to get out of the drive-thru, and we drive past the pick-up window. As we drive past, we see a few employees just standing around. As we drive by, an employee yells at us that they're "fucking closed". That was completely unnecessary to curse at us. It seems like the employees at this location just make their own hours, and they close whenever they feel like it. This isn't the first time they've closed early for no reason. A few weeks ago, we went to get dinner. We sat at the menu board in the drive-thru for at least 10 minutes. Nobody greeted us or anything. We drove next door and parked in the Taco Bell parking lot to try to figure out where to get dinner. We saw a few cars go through the drive-thru, but no one served them. I decided to call the actual store. Someone answered and when I asked if they were open, they said they were, which was a complete lie. Because of those employees, we have had to get dinner from a gas station at least twice. Something needs to be done. Retraining, something. read more

Wow, talk about a let down. I had heard this place had pretty good burgers for a fast food place. The burger had no flavor and the corn dog was the same. The lady at the order window was an absolute bundle of energy......not. She was not in a good mood and was rude to everyone who came up to order. When we asked for a sack to carry our order in, we had to repeat three times and she finally said, you mean a bag. Last time I checked they were one in the same. We had to ask for salt, pepper and ketchup and they forgot to give us our shake. This place was bad, bad, bad. Will not visit one of these again.
