I was just visiting Frankfort, and used Yelp to find something that was close by that had a drive-thru. I was lightweight excited when I came across cookout because I've had them before when I was in Lexington. For fast food, the burgers really do taste good which is great if you like burgers that are cooked on a grill. The fries,, I got the cajun fries, are exceptionally tasty. I'm not a big milkshake lover, but I went ahead and got one because they had so many different flavors. It was really thick, but it was good. I definitely recommend these burgers over at McDonald's or even a Wendy's. read more

This was my first time at a Cookout. I thought it was a very tasty and satisfying experience FOR FAST FOOD. This isn't gourmet or even fast-casual, but I and the kiddo thought it was really good, especially considering we arrived at the height of a lunch crowd, and this location hasn't been open that long (and honestly, at the risk of sounding snotty, I don't have high expectations for Frankfort). The place was relatively clean, and crowded as all get out (the drive-thru was slammed). However our order was quickly taken by pleasant cashiers, and we received our food very fast. This seems like a smaller format, joining other smaller format stores in Frankfort, eg., Logan's, BWW and Ulta. I ordered the food to go since it didn't look like any dine-in tables would come available. However, several did free up by the time we got our food, since again this is a fast food joint - just tastier, fresher, better-prepared fast food. The menu seems diverse and fun: burgers, dogs, fries, hush puppies, slaw, milkshakes, even pulled pork. We ordered two medium cajun fries and two regular-sized cheddar and bacon burgers. We both really liked our food: the portions are small-ish for being "regular", they look more like a tradition fast-food "small" size (ie., looked like a small fry and a junior burger). However, the food turned out to be plenty filling - we were both stuffed after eating it all. The burger was juicy and smoky, smothered in cheese sauce, grilled onions and bacon (less onions were needed and the bacon could have been way crispier). The cajun fries were also crisp and satisfying. And the price was great - $10 + some change (we both just had ice waters). No, this place isn't as good as (unavoidable comparison) Five Guys, which I LOVE. However, it definitely would satisfy any FG cravings I would have, especially sans the grease/salt overload that inevitably follows an FG binge. And I MUCH prefer having a rational portion of food for the cost (am I the only individual that feels just a little ripped off after leaving FG having spent $12 on a burger and fries and having to toss some aside since it was just too much food, but not enough to take leftover?). Overall, very good experience, I enjoyed the tasty and affordable burger and fries and I would definitely return. read more

Working in Frankfort I come to Cook Out often. The food is always good and the prices are very reasonable. I have never had any problems with staff as they have always been friendly. Last time I was here it appeared like 1 employee was simultaneously training two others on taking orders and transactions. It was impressive. Today I witnessed a kid come in and place his order ahead of me. He was given his total and he hesitated before stating that he was a dollar short. The employee behind the counter simply reached in his pocket to pull out a dollar to cover him. Milkshakes not as good as they used to be. Peanut butter fudge doesn't seem to have any fudge in it anymore and is overall not as flavorful.

Cook Out just opened not to long ago here in Frankfort and I am a big fan. #1 They have Cheerwine on their fountain. This, for some, will mean a great deal and for others not in the know you need to try this soda out. I rarely if ever see it around Kentucky so this already scored them high marks in my book. #2 The taste of my meal was great. I had the regular burger with grilled onions, cheese, pickle, lettuce and ketchup. Kind of like 5 Guys you have to tell them what you want on it. I went with the regular burger on my first trip because I figure if they can't get the basic right why try anything else. I was not disappointed. They burger was juicy and had a great grill taste. The sides could have been a bit bigger but for $5.71 that includes the burger sides and a drink I can't complain much. The sides I chose were the onion rings and cole slaw. The rings were cooked well and not overdone. They coleslaw was crisp and tasty and not overly dressed. They have several specialty options that can add things like chili and slaw to your burger but the cost is pretty much nothing. The specialty burgers add anywhere from .75-.99 cents to your order. I will definitely be going back to try some of their other options to see if the same great tastes carry over. A word of caution, this place is new and as such it is pretty packed. However, even with such high crowds I still got my order quick ( as in got my drink stood for less than 5 minutes and out the door). I was a single so maybe it went faster but I really didn't see to many folks waiting. The seating is a bit limited so with it being so crowded a seat might be hard to come by so if you can have somebody grab a spot while you order. read more

What a great surprise driving from Louisville to Lexington to find such great food at CookOut! Had the steak style burger that was perfection, char grilled on the outside, warm pink on the inside. I had to feed six hungry people who wanted some of everything. This place has quite a few of the standard some-of-everything options (actually, almost everything). Unlike other fast food places, they have corn dogs and hot dogs (how clever is that?). Weirdly, they have hush puppies but no fish. Anyway, we had burgers and bbq sandwiches, a couple of corn dogs, along with fries and a number of shake options. We tried the slaw and onion rings too. While it boasts good pork bbq, the sandwich itself was not worth it, even at the extraordinary, low prices for the food. If this is made on the premises, then there is hope that it can be improved. However, if this is delivered to the establishment in a supplier or commissary fashion, too bad. All the other food was exactly as promised, and this meets one of my top review criteria. The staff was very friendly and everyone in my group except the two with the bbq was quite pleased, and even they got shakes which they would not share (they tried to share the bbq, but we had a;ready caught on). Everyone was full enough that several of the shakes traveled on with us (in a good way) after we finished eating. One strange thing though, we generated enough wrapping papers, Styrofoam boxes, plastic lids, straws, napkins, and other detritus to fill a commercial recycling bin. Food wrappings must be at least half the food cost. Fix the bbq for another star. Eat well; tip well. read more

Absolute best burgers shakes and hot dogs in town. I cannot say enough about their quality in their burgers as they are all flame broiled. You see and smell them cooking your meal fresh. Everything here is fresh. They have over 40 shakes. When you order the cherry cobbler shake they really put cherry cobbler in your shake. The purl BBQ sandwiches are fantastic and I personal recommend their 'Mexi Style' hot dog as something truly unique and must be tried. Definitely my favorite fast meal in town and their portions and fries are the best. read more

Interesting set up where a corn dog can be a side. Tried the cheeseburger, onion rings and Cole slaw. Onion rings side were the only disappointment, mostly because you only get about 5 of them total. Burger was well cooked and flavorful and had great toppings. Tried a orange cream shake which was very good and worth going back for. One of the best burgers in town. Just like a burger that you would make at home. Awesomeness! We went through the drive-thru, and was greeted by a nice young gentleman, named Ben. Ben was very friendly, and precise with our orders as he confirmed our order for confirmation (I wished more places did this and actual make it right). The burgers are fresh with quality ingredients, not greasy like other burger joints. I told Ben that it was our first time there, and he said that I'll see you tomorrow. Boy was he wrong, after I scarfed down my first double burger from Cookout, I went back and ordered 10 more (Yes, I ordered ten more). We also ordered fries and onion rings, which were awesome! The service was exceptionally fast, lightning fast! So glad that we decided to give this place a try. This is our new burger joint for the family. I love this restaurant. I eat here all the time. However, I always get take out. Today I had more time and came in to eat. I ordered and went to a table waiting on my food. They are blasting Jesus music so loud I can't stand it. I didn't know this was a church or a religious restaurant. Even Chick Fila that is a well known Christian restaurant doesn't play Jesus music. I had to leave and I won't be coming back. I wonder how many other people don't appreciate the music either. read more

We stopped here on a whim after doing the bourbon trail on our way to Louisville. 4.99 for two sides and a huge tea?! My husband got the double cheeseburger with a bacon wrap and onion rings. Said it was good. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and it was just as good as Wendy's. I also had fries (forgot to add Cajun seasoning :(. ) and hush puppies....can we take a minutes and talk those hushpuppies?! best ones I've ever eaten! First visit today at ~12:40pm, did not have to wait in line and drive through only had 3 cars. We ordered a Regular Burger Tray (CO's version of a value meal) Cheddar style with doubled up cheese fries and a mocha shake and a Big Double Burger Tray with fries, nuggets, and a banana fudge shake. The first problem was that the order taker screwed up and entered it as two Regular Trays. The second problem was that instead of the advertised 5-piece nuggets, only 3 were included. The wait time was acceptable, and while the burgers were delicious (but messy, skip the grilled onions) and the shakes off the hook, the fries were cold and soggy (didn't matter for the cheese fries) and the short-count nuggets were also cold and soggy. Even restaurants only get one chance for a first opinion and they blew it. Getting the order wrong and shorting food items at a fast food restaurant are unpardonable sins in my book (with many years in fast-food experience). I really don't see us visiting this place again or, if we do, having the order taker confirm my order then checking it before accepting it. UPDATE: Was contacted by CO corporate regarding review. They do sound concerned about quality, so we may try them again. If so, I'll update accordingly. 2nd UPDATE: Coupon from corporate arrived with my name misspelled. Wife and I went to give them another chance and it was still not a good experience. My wife ordered what she wanted then went to find us a table. I ordered what I wanted but, suddenly, my wife's order disappeared and had to be re-entered. Rather than tell me what information they needed, they allowed me to go ask her the first question, come back and tell them, then ask me another question, causing me to make a second trip to the table. The food itself was acceptable. The onion rings and quesadilla on my 'Tray' were fresh, the flavor good. My wife's fries were fresh as well, reasonably crisp. The burgers were OK but I've had better. I'm not going to bother corporate with this one. Two bad service experiences for overpriced food is not worth the confusion that even the staff seems to have over their food. Do yourself a favor, if you head to this store, just go to the Hardee's that's two lots to the left of this place. read more
