I went here on the 4th of July and whoever was talking through the loudspeaker at around 6 something was so rude! I was appalled when I was at the drive thru and got hit with a overly sarcastic "I can't hear you" and nothing but attitude and sarcasm after that, it was extremely upsetting as I already wasn't having a good holiday to be met with that on top isn't right to me at all. I spent two nights in Frankfurt, KY recently and I'm a bit of a foodie, so when I heard about Cook Out I knew I had to eat here. I honestly don't know how this place doesn't have a Michelin Star or James Beard Award. The cheeseburger was grilled into a charred, dried out pile that had the texture of a hockey puck - just the way I like it! Luckily, I have very strong teeth. The hush puppies were fried into oblivion, and left my mouth feeling like I had spent days lost in a desert without water - we don't have a Cook Out where I live, but I will definitely make the 6 hour drive to nourish my body with this fine cuisine again. We were expecting something like "Backyard Burgers" fresh-like burgers and crush squeezed lemonade. It's more like a Burger King meets Sonic's. I ordered a hot dog. I expected it to be big and juicy like Costco's. It was not. It had grill makes, but no grilled "flavor" and was definitely on the thin side. The onions were average. This is a difficult establishment to review. I am torn because when receiving my food i was immediately concerned about needing to support the healthcare costs of regular customers, but then I realized the need to balance that with fact that they wjll not live long enough to collect social security. This place is dirt cheap and my chili cheese burger is very good as are the Cajun fries. Would eat again. I ordered the walking taco as my 2nd side. I was oblivious that this is aTex Mex taco ingredients thrown into a bag of Doritos. Ground beef and lettuce are not legitimate taco ingredients but I never anticipated an authentic taco, so I cannot allow this to impact my score. I'm not going to eat this (I am staring at it as I write). The meat is of poor quality and it's disgusting. That said -- for someone who craves low quality taco ingredients in a bag of Doritos at bottom of the barrel pricing it is probably hits the spot. I give 5 stars because their food effectively accomplishes what they set out to do. Found this place via a Yelp search for where to eat while on a #roadtrip . Almost missed it, kind of up on a hill but right off 127. Went in so I could spend time looking at the menu since I'm unfamiliar. Burgers and hot dogs and shakes. Reasonable prices. Downside is the cashier didn't seem very friendly as I was trying to decide. Normally I'd ask what they recommend but she just didn't seem to want to engage. I got the cheddar burger (bacon and grilled onions), onion rings, and a plain hot dog (for my dog). It was all still hot when I got to my nearby hotel. The cook out sauce on the onion rings is good ... kind of like a spicy thousand island without the relish. The burger was a decent thickness and had good bacon and grilled onions on it. The staff was friendly. The service was fast. The prices are good. Everything we had was delicious. They have these combos where you get a main course two sides in a drink and they're about eight or nine dollars. You can also up charge to get a shake so I got the double burger. It had a nice smoky flavor and taste it real as a side I got the cheese bites. They were cooked the right temperature and fresh oil. You didn't get a whole lot of them but as part of this deal, it was very fair. I also got a chicken quesadilla. It had great flavor. My friend said her corn dog was fried not microwaved and was good and she loved the quesadillas as well I had one of their shakes. They're four dollars and you can get pretty much anything you want put in them. I had chocolate cherry cheese cheesecake. It was delicious. I highly recommend this place. Nothing fancy! "Don't let a book get judged by its cover" this place is so good! My husband first tried it in Lexington and on our way home (California) we stopped by in Frankfort. It's a must try! I live 550 miles from the nearest Cookout, so when I get a chance to go to one I have high hopes. This was my one trip to a Cookout this year, and it did not disappoint! Had a chance to eat the beef quesadilla, onion rings, cheese curds, and a Peanut Butter Fudge shake. All were outstanding, the service was super fast and our party of 6 all got exactly what was in their order. This Cookout location is a 5 star plus as far as I'm concerned. We ran through the drive though here today on our way out of town. The line was super long, but it moved really fast surprisingly. Ordering was complicated so I definitely suggest you look at a menu before ordering to speed up the process if you're a first timer. Our food came out super fast. It was all correct and fresh. My burger was delicious. We all really enjoyed the hush puppies as well. My favorite thing about this place is that it was super cheap. We fed three adults and two kids a TON of food with $30. The absolute worst service I have ever received! The girl on Frontline needs to be in the back! She gave countless eye rolls to each customer. I ordered 5 shakes and 2 fries . Fries we're ready ASAP. I waited 25 minutes on the shakes but the 5th shake took way to long. By the time it was all ready I had very cold fries and not so cold milkshakes except for the last 1 was good. Cook Out is possibly one of the better (no, I wasn't going for best. Nope!) fast food places in Frankfort. It's also one of the very few places that is open so late (3 am?!) though I've never been here past midnight. In fact, I've never entered the establishment; just whizzed through the virtually empty drive thru a couple times. The menu is pretty standard - burgers, chicken sandwiches, wraps etc and sides ranging from hush puppies to quesadillas. I don't know of any other place that offers entree's (the word is a stretch in this case) like wraps and quesadillas as sides. Also, they offer an insane amount of food in their 'trays'. Like, you can get a burger, wrap, quesadilla AND a coke float for $4.99. Or you can pay a dollar more and get one of their 40 different shakes as your drink. Is this a deal or a steal? The last time I was here, I got the spicy chicken sandwich tray with onion rings and a chicken wrap. I was so full after eating the sandwich and rings that I had to save the wrap for the next day. This time I went after dinner and so, just had R's side of Cajun chicken wrap. The wrap is a little sad to look at, with a lone chicken strip, a single lettuce leaf, some 'cheese' and Cajun seasoning. But, it was spicy and quite good. I figure they'd see more business were they located closer to KSU or such, considering the price and hours. read more

This is only my second time at Cook Out. I have used the drive through both the times. The last time, my wife and I both got a tray each and it was a lot of food between the two of us. Tonight, she had already eaten and only wanted a chicken wrap for a late night snack. So I decided to get it as one of the sides for my tray instead of the onion rings I was planning to. I got the onion rings separately and it was a lot more in quantity than what comes as a side. So, wise choice there. So, my order was the Spicy chicken sandwich tray with Chicken quesadilla and Cajun chicken wrap for the two sides and cheer wine float for drink. And a separate order of onion rings. When I got the float it was bubbling over and I was worried it would spill in my car. Thankfully it didn't. The sandwich was pretty tasty. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. The 'quesadilla' is actually a joke but can't complain as it's only a side. The onion rings weren't greasy at all and came piping hot. Good fast food for cheap is what Cook Out is. read more

I stopped in here after a day filled with a dental appointment and shopping at local Frankfort stores. I wasn't sure what to expect but I hadn't had a thing to eat all day and it was nearing 2 p.m. so I decided to splurge on my diet. The sign Cook Out Burgers, BBQ, Hot Dogs and Shakes screamed out at me. I swear my car was on automatic pilot as I would never go here intentionally. I could have splurged... Burgers, sides, 72 flavors of milkshakes, all very reasonably priced, WOW! Yet standing inside reading the sign before I ordered I realized I could even eat semi healthy and get a Chicken Wrap which I did. When I asked the friendly young man at the order counter how much a small drink cost he said "it's free with the purchase". Was I dressed like a bag lady and he was feeling sorry for me, I'll never know? After paying he said in a friendly tone, it will be right up. Within seconds it arrived neatly wrapped and piping hot. So for less than $2. TOTAL I had one of the most delicious lunches that I can remember from a Fast Food Restaurant. The 'trays' come with your choice of sandwich (or 2 hot dogs), two sides (like onion rings, fries or a corn dog) plus a drink. Now, I ordered the chicken strip sandwich tray with fries and a corn dog. I got the plain chicken strip tray (no sandwich ) with a corn dog and fries. The husband ordered the 2 hot dog tray with double fries. While my order wasn't exactly correct, I'm not trying to be annoyed about the lack of a bun (let's be honest, I can do with out the carbs). I always get the unsweetened tea, even though there are like 60+ flavors of milkshakes. The tea is good and is a big factor for me. Today I went there with my daughter. It wasn't crowded at all, there were maybe two other people in front of so I figured that it would go pretty smoothly. Was I ever wrong!! My daughter placed her order and I immediately placed my order. My daughter got her order fairly fast, within 5 minutes or so and that's where everything went wrong. After I had placed my order a group of people, about 10, came in. I placed a fairly simple order of 2 hot dogs, 1 hamburger, 2 large fries(one with chili), and a shake....so nothing out of the ordinary. I don't know how long I was waiting for my order but it was long enough for the group of 10 people to get their food before I got mine. When I asked the server about my order I was told that "they were working on it" and that she couldn't tell the cooks to cook any faster. That's when I asked to speak to a manager. When the manager came out I asked her about my order and told her that I was disappointed that my order was taking so long....she gave the lame apology of "I'm sorry" and acted like she could care less and again said they were cooking it right now. So for such a simple order why was it taking so long? The entire staff seemed very unprofessional and uncaring. If I could give this place a negative rating I would. I do not recommend going here.
