I love cookout, so i hate complaining. And I try not to complain about food in general but working in this industry I also understand that if you don't say something mistakes will continue to happen. At this location 2 out of every 3 orders is wrong or messed up. And I never said anything because the management is always rude about complaints. When I got home 20 minutes away..I opened my order and once again it was wrong- and not just a little bit it was completely wrong. So I made a phone call, not only was the male manager rude he actually told me it was MY FAULT my order was wrong. I get the same thing every time and order the same way. But somehow this was MY fault. He wasn't even going to help me. I wasn't asking for money back I just wanted my order fixed. And I even asked him, 'are you really telling me that this is my fault?' Eventually he let me know I could come up to get my replacement. But didn't end the convo without rudely reiterating that this was once again my fault. read more

I heard a lot of good things about this place. It has sort of a cult following - similar to In-N-Out Burger on the West Coast. Unlike In-N-out, Cook Out is nothing to write home about. The burgers are just average for the hype. They're nothing you can't make at home in your own kitchen. My fiance insists we go to Five Guys instead of Cook Out for a fast food burger and fries (but the grease content is increased 10-fold). The chicken tenders are good. They were not your ordinary dried up tenders used solely as a vehicle for BBQ sauce - they were moist, tender, and full of flavor. Not super greasy. Their sides really missed the mark. The fries were mushy, the hush puppies were hard and dry, and the onion rings were tasteless. The whole place, its menu, and its food is soulless. It lacks the spirit (and food) of what makes the occult burger joint, like In-N-Out, so popular. I'd say there's nothing special about Cook Out...but then there's their milkshakes. The shakes are creamy, smooth, and d-e-licious. Their shakes rival the best creameries, and are not artificial tasting like the "shakes" at other fast food joints. If Cook Out tossed their entire menu, and served only their shakes, this place would seriously have something. The only recommendation I can make: the watermelon milkshake. I've been to cook-out twice now all in one week. I definitely go back for their delicious shakes. My favorite is the Blueberry Cheesecake. Price: Their prices are relatively cheap for the portion that they serve. Especially when you go for the combo which you get a burger of your choice, 2 sides, and a drink. For $1.00 more you can get a shake instead. Quality: Eating here definitely beats getting a burger from the golden arches. I think they make their burgers just right and enjoy every bite of it. We stopped for lunch in the middle of a 4-hour road trip to the Outer Banks.I got an incredible double bacon cheeseburger that was perfectly cooked and delicious. She got a 1/4 pound burger that came with two sides: hushpuppies and a quesadilla. A side of quesadilla! Have you ever heard of such a thing? We topped it off with an enormous cup of tea, the size of which would give Mayor Bloomberg night terrors. Do you know what we paid for everything above? $10. Went there for my first time after driving by for over a 18 months. The place looked busy, which is always a good indicator of food quality. I opted for the drive through, and this being my first time was a bit overwhelmed by the menu organization. Ended up with a burger meal...though will definitely go back to try some of the other options. The burger itself was, as the name implies, very "cook-out". Like someone made it in their backyard. This is not a poor reflection of the burger itself, as it was pretty good. But coming from Southern California where In-N-Out reigns supreme, this burger simply cannot compare. Yes they're both burgers...but not in the same league. Think Ferrari vs Toyota. Nordstroms vs Belk. Portions were actually amazing for the price, and I definitely enjoyed my fries and onion rings. As I mentioned before, this was my first outing and it was a solid, happy three-star trip. I haven't been to Jacksonville since moving away in '02, so I was disappointed to find that the Smithfield on Western was no longer there. Discouraged, my daughter tried to perk me up with the sighting of one of her favorite spots: Cook Out. Cook Out is a NC chain that has taken off like wildfire, and they're now slowly starting to trickle into SC (they're building one in Sumter now, only the 5th in the state! My daughter will be pleased!). They're not a master of any one variety, but a jack of all. I love being able to get a corn dog as one of the sides to my BBQ sandwich. Went here about a month ago and the drive thru person was sooooo rude to me. There was no one in line but me. She kept asking me if I was ready over and over. I'd say she asked 5-7 times in a few minute period. I even apologized and said sorry it's my first time here. Then when I did order she kept saying what, what, what. Like she couldn't understand me. I speak perfect English with no accents. So I just ordered something random I didn't even want. When I got up to the window she was standing there with her hand on her hip just staring at me not saying a word trying to be intimidating. I again apologized and said I had never been there and was confused how to order. Again no one in line in front of me or behind me. She didn't respond to my apology took my card then turned her back to me leaned down on the counter holding up her head. When my food was ready she rudely handed it to me and turned her back again leaning on the counter. It was sooooooo rude and mean. I work in customer service, actually train people how to treat customers and I am always kind and thoughtful. I haven't been back since because it was such a stressful horrific experience. I've been to Cook Out several times now since moving to Jacksonville, NC and for a fast food place, it's really good. Because I have Celiacs Disease I'm always careful about where I go, especially when it comes to fast food, but cook out is awesome. They make my sandwiches without the bun, they prepare it separately from other contaminating areas and the Cajun chicken is soooooo delicious! The shakes are great too, I love the red cherry flavor. And they have Cheerwine floats! The fries aren't that good, but the slaw is pretty decent. Overall I really like this place and wish there were more of them all over the country read more

This point of my favorite takeout food places this particular locations very clean but I love the menu to cook great food for takeout food it's awesome it's not as cheap as McDonald's and stuff but you get what you pay for I believe the food top quality It's Not Just Junk meat not knowing where it came from... you can tell it's the real deal no matter what you getting here it's always good food and helping its location very nice people and helpful but if I'm on the road and I'm going to pulling into some fast food place this would be have to be one of my favorites and maybe a little bit more cost than McDonald's or any of the other chains like that but like I said, I truly believe that you get what you pay for real food real meat not just your average fast food restaurant. This cookout location convenient to get to. The inside is very clean. There's a bench to sit on while waiting on your to-go orders which is not common at other locations. The inside is pretty clean and the drink station is clean. The water came out slow but that was not a big deal to me. The food was fast and amazing. The milkshake was good and not watery.
