My husband and I came here with high hopes that it was going to be good (mostly because it smelt really good from outside of the restaurant). Wrong, the "regular" size burger was smaller than a mcdouble, and it was just plain bland, then on top of that the sides portions were literally 4 pieces each, I had the onion rings and chicken nuggets and those were bland as well. read more

I prefer this place when my kids want fast food. We get the box lunch, which doesn't look or sound like a lot of food, then you open the container and wonder where you're gonna put it all. The hushpuppies are amazing, the burgers are cooked to perfection. We've pretty much had every combo available for the box lunch and all the items are wonderful. The hushpuppies and burgers are always in our boxes. The milkshakes are very good. I usually take my kids for a milkshake after they get a shot at the doctor. I've had the chocolate, banana, and pineapple. All very good. I also like you can get Cheerwine here, not many places offer that kind of coke anymore. Coming from California, I have high standards for fast food burger places (In n out baby!), but my boyfriend and I both agreed, this actually puts it to shame. Sure, In-n-Out has way fresher veggies that you know just came fresh off the farm, and Cook Out's were rather wilted and not true to color, but you don't go to a burger place for the veggies. You go for the meat! And Cook Out's burgers taste like REAL burgers. As my boyfriend put it, it's like we went out and grilled them ourselves. He's back in CA for school right now, but instead of rubbing In-n-Out burgers in my face, I get to send him pics of good ol' Cook Out burgers to make him jealous. read more

Good food and service at Cook Out. I went to see if it was life changing like In N Out burgers, and I think that they're game changing but not life changing. I got a western style burger, onion rings, and a chocolate malt milkshake. The burger was bigger than an In N Out, and looked like a homemade burger, good taste too. The best part for me was the milkshake, thick and creamy and they offer what feels like a hundred flavors. If zero stars was an option I'd give that but unfortunately, Yelp won't allow it. My husband and I made a pit stop here on the way back to our home, biggest mistake ever. I had the chedder style burger. Onions had no flavor and the burger was as dry as the grand canyon, bland but somewhat edible. My husband on the other hand got the BBQ plate. The pork was inedible. I don't think pork is suppose to be hard and with a tint of green. The hush puppies were bland and my two year old refused to eat them, and she eats everything. The fries were okay, nothing extravagant. You get what you pay for. I won't cry over $9.00 but I definitely could have went to McDonalds and at least been satisfied for half that. You can't beat this place. The food is great. The menu has a wide variety and it's all fairly inexpensive. The staff is incredibly friendly and if you tell them that you've never been there before, they'll explain the whole menu to you and will be patient as you decide what to order. After my meal I ordered a side of hush puppies to go and waited about one minute for them to come out. The gentleman at the register apologized to me for the wait. I wish every restaurant had such concerned employees. I suggest you order your burger cookout style. read more

It was cheap, but you get your money's worth. Not to big on getting 3 pieces of bacon, tomato, and lettuce on a hamburger bun. It was only a dollar but still... :/ the fries were over cooked in grease that tasted like they deep fried everything all together. We also asked for onion rings and they gave us hush puppies. My husband and i been here twice and we enjoyed the food . we both had the cheddar style burger with cheese fries and chicken quesadilla .the only upsetting part is we ordered everything individually because the combo menu is on the side wall in the corner away from the main menu so we didnt know we were able to make it a combo for way cheaper. The cashier didnt even let us know we can order that way when he heard us ordering stuff sinilar to the combo so our food came out to way more money than it shouldve. Disclaimer: The review below was written without knowing this place had some sort of cult following. This place is nowhere near the same league as In-N-Out or Five Guys. Those two places are very good at what they do (Five Guys is a bit overpriced). In that vein, being copared to the aforementioned burger joints, Cook Out sucks. This place is in a different class. Cook Out's niche is the 3am, taste buds dulled by alcohol, cigarrette-taste-in-my-mouth crowd. Original Review: This place gets a lot of love because its cheap and they seem to be always open. I would say that most of the time people eat this they are coming back from a late night of partying, thus this gets compared to Jack-in-the-Box tacos. Having said that, the food is very mediocre. The burgers are way too greasy and don't even come with the typical accoutrements (if you will)--i.e. lettuce, tomatoes, etc. The burgers are not better than your regular franchise burger joints. However, they do have a more expansive menu than WacArnolds, so this may be a good place for everyone in your group to get a bad version of what they are in the mood for. Reasons I would recommend this place: the zombie apocalypse has indeed taken place, its 3am and you don't know where your kids are, you are trying to stick it to a bum by buying him a burger because he's asking for money for food when you know he just wants to spend it on liquor, or you have been bitten by a vampire and have lost the ability to taste any and all food. Very fast and inexpensive. The cook out trays are an awesome combo which includes a drink. My daughters and wife love the milk shakes. I'm a big fan of the combo and how they are made, which includes two sides. Their meals are very filling and for a family of five it comes out to under $30; that includes extras like chili-cheese fries and milk shakes.
