Last night was our first trip to Cook Out and it did not disappoint. I had a loaded Hot Dog with chili, onions, and mustard. It was delicious with the hot dog overflowing with toppings. My wife had a hamburger. It was double patties with good flavor and what ever toppings you prefer. Although we didn't have a milkshake, they have over 40 varieties and that is what I will try next time because their fries are the old fashioned 'crinkle' fires that really hold your ketchup, or in my case your milkshake. This restaurant/fast food drive-thru is evidently from North Carolina; the outline of the state was worked into the Cook Out logo on their caps. Not sure why people have left bad reviews for this Cook Out. It's nice and clean. It's easy to get to off US I-40/75. The staff is friendly. And, the food is the same as other Cook Out's - American standard. I thought is was just fine - as did the 30 other people I was with. read more

This was my first time here. My burger was dry and cold, the "sautéed onions" were barely cooked and dripping with grease. The food presentation in a styrofoam box with scarce hush puppies and "cheddar bites" rolling around was depressing. I could have forgave the food but the ambiance was horrendous. The acoustics in here are horrible. It's just noise. The lighting is harsh and blinding. And the thing that really destroyed the whole visit for me was the staff member, apparently on extended break, at a booth with his speakerphone turned all the way up having a FaceTime call the whole time I was there. People sat as far away from him as possible and it we all had to listen in detail to the screeching of his conversation. read more

I went in not expecting much because the reviews weren't the best. I had never been to Cook Out before as they do not have them where I live. I watched a YouTube video to understand how the trays work with ordering. We went in and were so pleased with how patient the cashier was with us as we took our time ordering. Everything was correct and the order was fresh. Oh my goodness. Everything was amazing. I ordered the cookout burger, cheeseburger quesadilla, walking taco, and had a cheer wine float for a drink. Who wouldn't like this? I wasn't even hungry but ate everything. The kids loved their food and wish we had a Cook Out by us! As far as ambiance, it's a little more upscale than a McDonald's. EVERYTIME I come here it's been not good or bad. Staff looks at u like u are an inconvenience. The proper response when u are waiting to order would be "can I help u". My fist time here and I was pleasantly surprised in that the food tasted like the name implies and it was freshly made! The drive-thru wait wasn't long and my order was almost right (one cheeseburger missing) they replaced the missing item on the spot. Wow. I held off giving a negative review after the last time but this location has gone to crap. Ordered three burgers, fries, shake and corny dogs. Shakes were fine. Fries - cold, limp because oil wasn't proper temp when they dropped them in the fryer. Corny dogs flat out nasty. Old grease and not proper temp result in a greasy, burned tasting corny dog. A waste of $20. 2nd time here because it was late and I had not eaten all day. The food was inedible. The patties had been cooked hours before. What a bunch of damn pig slop. Second time I went to Cook-Out on Cedar Bluff - the girl in D/T can use some customer service training because she is rude. She wears a beanie each time. She shuts the window at you while you're speaking to her. She's going to cross someone one day that won't put up with that type of costumer service. This is the first time my husband I have eaten here and I have to say it's amazing when you walk in the door someone greets you and tells you hello and helps you with the order gives great suggestions. Quite possibly the single worst cookout experience I've ever had. 7/16/2020 @ 10pm Sat in drive thru for 40 minutes. Ordered a snickers milkshake, they gave me a banana milkshake. (I'm allergic) Ordered a quesadilla, they gave me melted cheese on a tortilla. Not a single piece of chicken. Ordered a plan hamburger, got a cheeseburger covered in mayonnaise. Ordered a water, got a sprite. Not a single item that I ordered was correct. The guy at the window said there was only 3 people working but there was a line out of the parking lot. Horrible! Have you ever ordered something simple only to get home and find out it is totally screwed up. I even walked up to the window to order to make sure they got it right. I also double checked with the girl that took my order and she repeated it and even turned the monitor around so I could see it. I jokingly told her that if it wasn't right I would bring it back (and I wouldn't be happy). Normally I would check the burger before I leave but I felt that they surely couldn't get it wrong after that, plus the burger was boxed and wrapped. When I got home, I unwrapped the burger and it looked like a wrinkled gooey mess. I didn't even have to open it to see it was wrong. I also got a grand total of three onion rings which I sampled, and they were soft and chewy. Even the coke was flat. Disgusting! I drove the five miles back and demanded my money back. Well, we just tried this place for the first and last time. We both got the combo. The burgers were dry and obviously overcooked. Got my husband's order wrong. Did not give us a spoon for the chili. Fortunately, we had utensils in our car. Was it canned chili! Sure tasted like it. It definitely left the spoon greasy! This location is marked closed, but it's open. Maybe they should be closed. This new location is clearly the place to be during lunch. It's always SLAMMED. With that said, I am so impressed by how well staffed they seem to be. Service is always friendly and fast. Dining area is clean, even during the late hours. Prices can't be beat.

I usually don't review chain restaurants, but if its late at night, or your kids don't care, just go to Cook Out. My son loves coming here after practices and games. It is cheap and not bad for fast food and where else can you get a burger, with a side of quesadilla and cheesecake. The hush puppies are really good and a deal. The shake menu is huge.
