I had never heard of them before but they were a burger and hot dog fast food place. I actually went there for the shakes. Set up like most fast food places with a decent sized parking lot as well as a drive thru option. Decent amount of seating inside as well and mostly booths. I only glanced at the regular menu but it seemed like burgers and hot dogs and fries were the basic options. The shakes however, had 40 something flavors to choose from. I went with peanut butter and it was very thick and very good. Great place to stop in for dessert. read more

My wife loved the chili dog that had chili, onion, and slaw for that extra sweetness and crispness. Been to Nashville many times throughout the years, but never once have I been to a Cook Out. Even staying near this location a bunch of times, I have never went. Well, that "streak" was broken on 05/23. Staying, again, on the West End, I finally decided to pay a visit. First impression was what the heck is up with all these "barriers". I don't get it. Very poor layout. But, very minor as I was there for the food. I got a "Tray" combo, with a steakhouse style burger, cajun fries, onion rings and subbed a soda for a peanut butter fudge shake. I was not disappointed. The food was cooked to order, so there is a little bit of wait. But im ok with that. I could smell the cajun seasoning, from the fries, through the packaging. They were piping hot and not limp, which was good for crinkly fries. The onion rings were ok. The burger, although slightly overcooked, hit the spot. A good size patty, in my opinion, along with the onions and lettuce made for a good meal. I also took the advice of a previous reviewer and added some buffalo sauce to everything. A nice added flavor. And at $12.71, it was quite a bargain. The shake was thick. Definitely hard to get through a straw. I might just go back, just to get a shake. Just landed in Nashville and couldn't wait to come here. My kids loved it and highly recommend it. The second we walked in we felt unwelcome. The customer service was horrible. This North Carolina based fast food chain developed a massive cult following for its OUTRAGEOUSLY CHEAP prices for good quality char grilled burgers, bbq and milkshakes (40+ flavors!!!) I got the Cook Out Tray which includes a burger, 2 sides and a large drink. ALL FOR 5 BUCKS. I got the spicy chicken burger, slaw and hushpuppies which are fried cornbread balls and WOW they were so good, prob the best part of my meal. It's sweet and soft like mozzarella cheese. I was still hungry and went back to get a 6 piece chicken nuggets and fries LOL. I didn't really like the nuggets but can't expect much from a $1 meal. So in total I spent $7 on two meals. Wow. I came to Nashville on vacation and my first two visits here were fine. I had a great conversation with the guy at the counter. The third night the one gentleman made a mistake in my order, and the manager JT was such a (censoring myself). Unbelievable. The worst customer service. They forgot my onion rings. He (white) told my (American Chinese) friend that my friend was a liar, and then only changed his tune when he saw me, a white guy. He seemed so racist how he was treating my friend, and I'm the last person to bring that type of thing up. He made me bring my French fries and bags all the way back to the restaurant from the hotel just to "prove" that there were no onion rings. Everyone was apologetic except for the racist JT. I asked the person working the register (semi bald man) what the cookout sauce tasted like and he said "I don't know" and I said "have you had it before?" And he said "why do you think I said I don't know??" Very rude. Our number was called and my food didn't come out with the rest of our order (I came with my boyfriend). I was scared to correct it because of how rude the person manning the register was so my boyfriend asked about it. Four stars is probably a lot for any fast food place, but whatever. Visiting Nashville from NYC for work, cookout is across from my hotel, went in at 11pm in a Tuesday. Cookout was busy but the staff was friendly. They kindly corrected an order for someone who came up with a mistake. My food took maybe 5 minutes. I ordered the combo deal. My Cajun fries didn't appear to be Cajun at all but they were still good enough. Hard to find ketchup at the place I think you have to ask for it. Spicy chicken sandwich wasn't spicy at all. It was basically a McChicken. I got a corn dog as one of my sides and it was delicious. It and the shake were the best part. The shake is more of a cup of ice cream, definitely requiring a spoon over a straw. I ordered a Reeses Cup shake, which is a vanilla shake with reeses in it, not to be confused with the peanut butter fudge shake. The restaurant was clean and the decor was cute, made it more comfortable to eat there than in a McDonald's or wendys. read more

This place is the ultimate in late night/drunk food cravings, its extremely affordable, has a large selection of items and the food is made fairly quick, whats more is that it taste pretty good. I saw this place while on a hotel shuttle and ask the driver what it was like and he said you could feed and army with about $15 and to be fair depending on what you order this isn't that far off. I had the burger with the steak option, a order of fries and cheese curds, chicken tenders and a Cajun chicken wrap all for about $13 and came out very satisfied and full. This is the best fast food, burger joint, that I have been to since moving to Nashville. You get a good amount of food, and it is so cheap. I opted for the cajun seasoned fries and they are really good. I do love my fries a little more on the crispier side, but these were pretty good...for a soggier fry. I was starving after a show let out at The End and as I've bemoaned in other reviews my favorite spot to grab a bite on that stretch (The Gold Rush) is no more and the Pizza place next door which often stays open late was shuttered. So I got in my car and headed here before home. The menu is totes crazy. Most combos come with TWO sides--so like fries AND onion rings (or chicken nuggets, etc.). There's a dude whose sole job it is appears to be in loading you down with condiments. They run through a long line quickly and this place doesn't slow down even late at night (perhaps it picks up b/c, like I said, when else would you eat here?). The burgers are "grilled" maybe--they're wrapped as if they were, they have some char, and they taste kind of like they were in fact actually grilled. The nuggets (you get 3 if you order them as a side) are pretty good too, the fries solid. And this place is CHEAP, all of the above was in my hand in less than 5 minutes for less than 5 bucks. read more
