This is the best fast food, burger joint, that I have been to since moving to Nashville. You get a good amount of food, and it is so cheap. I opted for the cajun seasoned fries and they are really good. I do love my fries a little more on the crispier side, but these were pretty good...for a soggier fry. This place exists for late nights. Like, I can't imagine choosing to eat here when the sun is still up. Not that it's bad, just that it's--well, late night food. I was starving after a show let out at The End and as I've bemoaned in other reviews my favorite spot to grab a bite on that stretch (The Gold Rush) is no more and the Pizza place next door which often stays open late was shuttered. So I got in my car and headed here before home. The menu is totes crazy. Most combos come with TWO sides--so like fries AND onion rings (or chicken nuggets, etc.). There's a dude whose sole job it is appears to be in loading you down with condiments. They run through a long line quickly and this place doesn't slow down even late at night (perhaps it picks up b/c, like I said, when else would you eat here?). The burgers are "grilled" maybe--they're wrapped as if they were, they have some char, and they taste kind of like they were in fact actually grilled. The nuggets (you get 3 if you order them as a side) are pretty good too, the fries solid. If you've never been to Cook Out- ITS A MUST!! I went to college in Knoxville & it's a college kid favorite. I got two hot dogs, French frys, hush puppies, and a drink for under $6!!! We could visit a site like Cook Out and feed the entire family for under $10 and bring them home full and not wanting for anything else at least for a few hours. Once those young boys left home, they went to college and they still loved to eat. Now, comes Cook Out, offering a large variety menu at low prices and once again the boys can fill their stomachs at any time of day or night all for still under $10 Fabulous concept, we love Cook Out. However, for us our palette has changed over the course of time and this is not probably suited for the 50 and over crowd unless you have been out with your kids hanging at their bars all nigh and then it will be awesome and amazing. Those of us over that 50 mark may just want to ensure we have that bottle of Prilosec along with us. I can't understand why everyone is going apeshit over Cook out. The menu is pretty elaborate for first-timers. They have all these options, and its really confusing. I got a plain burger with onion and mustard and ketchup. With a side of fries and chili. You get the option of two sides, which include all kinds of options. The burger was good. They took a whole onion and sliced it so its as if I had a second patty that was nothing but an onion. -completely unnecessary. The Chili was essentially Taco Bell Meat in a styrofoam shot glass. Its not chili, just meat. No beans, nothing. Since I am a normal human being that prefers to drink unsweet tea, I had to wait for them to make more. They do have two GIANT containers of sweet tea. Even after living in the south for more than ten years, I never got used to drinking the sugar-laden tea down here. So instead of being like a normal restaurant, and using one container for sweet and one container for unsweet, I had to specifically ask for unsweet. The two giant containers weren't even labeled. So I had to do the math. Lastly - and I know this isn't that important, but they have a bunch of bible verses and "god bless america" on their packaging. I love eating Christian businesses that don't make it their business to shove bible verses down our throats. (In-n-Out, Auntie Anne's) instead of places that do (Chick-Fil-A, Cook out) To each their own. Its their business but I think I will not be eating here much if ever. So here's the deal, my fiancé and I would go to Cook Out every time we visited his family in NC. It was my treat. So, imagine my excitement when I saw one while driving down West End! This place was once an Arby's and I complained about the location and parking then. That hasn't changed but that is my ONLY complaint. I've been 3 times now (I really need to stop ) and each time the service was great as well as the food. Everything is always fresh and the shakes and sweet tea are must trys. Try a cheddar burger or chicken tray, get your fries cajun, add one packet of lemon juice to your sweet tea unless you opt for a shake (you can mix shake flavors btw) and these are NC style hushpuppies (love) so if you try them, don't expect the round fluffy ones. Now being that there are very few places to go to at 4 am in the morning, I have to give Cook-Out credit for its ability to be there when people most need them. I also ordered a corn dog and that was Ok, definitely one of the better items on the menu. With no other options for food this late at night, Cook-Out is essentially your only option. The food is gross and it is crowded, but if you need greasy fast food to fill your stomach then this place will get the job done.
