Not only does this place service great, affordable cookies (at $1 each), but they are a nonprofit, dedicated to empowering and educated young, African American teens. This organization hires kids ages 15-18 and teaches them life skills that can transfer into any job, and offers them free leadership classes, pays them to get all their homework done, and finds ways to inspire them to pursue degrees after high school. I had the privilege of volunteering at their site a few weeks back and was happy to give a few hours of my time to help a great cause and listen to these kids' stories. They serve 10 or so different types of cookies, and deliver across the Twin Cities. You can place catering orders 2 days in advance, and get cookies that taste great. This is primarily a review on their volunteer opportunities. Yelp Helps 2016 volunteered at this non-profit last weekend, and it was an organized, enriching, and cookie-dough-enticing experience! First off, communication was easy and thorough while organizing this event. I corresponded with Sara Ernst (sernst@cookiecart.org), who prepared us on what to expect and how to come prepared. Once our group showed up, we slapped on some aprons, super sexy hair nets, and vinyl gloves. I don't know what looked better - the hunks of cookie dough or our get-ups. A local student took us on a tour of the facility, providing a little history too. We got to meet the local teenagers in the program, and chat with them and their involvement with the community. Our group was here on cookie dough scooping day - so we went HAM on those blocks of dough! We prepped about 5+ types of cookies. Fair warning: oatmeal raisin right out of the fridge requires a little extra elbow grease, but I'm a stronger person for it. It was wonderful to participate in an organization focused on guiding and enriching our local youth. Pay it forward to those who can put you in a nursing home one day! PS - the cookies are delicious!! We got to try them - and I really loved the M&Ms and coconut toffee! read more

Husband's work gave him a dozen cookies for his birthday. We decided to venture the area... Great idea! So good. We got a few different cookies. The ginger snap was what you would expect. Very excited to get home and try the coconut heath which I just read a tip that it is only seasonal! Yikes! Also heard that they have pumpkin cookies in the fall! I WILL be back. They had a platter of cookies out for the "volunteers". Almost felt like I would "volunteer myself to have one". Hehe- But I would rather buy. Serious, explosive Snickerdoodle SWAG! Yeah, that's right. I went there. And I'm very particular about my snickerdoodles. Can't be too hard, too floury, too tastes-like-corn-syrup (why do people add c.s. to cookies? It tases like crap). I've only ever liked my own snickerdoodles. The Cookie Cart has changed my world view. And talk about local - THIS is local. Not only are you buying from a local non-profit (yep, feel good about eating cookies) but the product is SO much better than any other non-local product that you don't have to forego quality like at some local places I won't mention. When I travel to a different location, my goal is to try different foods to get a taste of the town's culture and soul. You learn a lot about the place: the history, diversity, and hospitality just by simply trying their food. I heard of this place from one of my aunts. She told me that Cookie Cart was created to help kids stay occupied by working in a team and keeping them out of trouble. What a brilliant idea. This establishment does exactly that! The kids run the show here. Upon walking in, the teenagers greet you with a smile and charismatic personality. They get the fresh cookies for you and then carry out the entire transaction. They also look like they're having a good time. They say if you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life. I'm not saying this is their career but I'm just emphasizing the joy these kids find in operating the Cookie Cart. My brothers and I came here two times within a week to get their delicious cookies. That should mean something! They were so good, I had to order me a batch to fly back home to Chicago. My ultimate favorite one is the coconut toffee one! A definite absolutely must try! This place can make any "tough cookie" soften up. Seriously, the cuteness here parallels puppy and kitten shows on Animal Planet. Started by Sister Jean Thuerauf, The Cookie Cart began in her kitchen 23 years ago in order to provide a safe and productive place for kids to be after-school. Once she couldn't accommodate all of the kids that came, she opened up a location on Broadway. 23 years later, The Cookie Cart has become an institution on the North-side. It has employed thousands of kids, and taught many of them life skills through baking and selling cookies. The first time I went there, I definitely had cuteness overload. It's not everyday that I witness a tall 16 year-old boy lift a 12 year-old girl -because she was too short- to reach the cash register. While suspended in the air, the tall boy instructed her what to push to properly provide change for the customer. Each customer is respectfully greeted with "hello mam" or "hello sir" and leaves with "thank you mam" or "thank you sir". So yeah, The Cookie Cart's mission and staff can easily melt your heart. However, even if I was a heartless and grumpy old man that hated the world, I would probably still buy cookies here BECAUSE THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Snickerdoodles = Out of this world. Heath Coconut = Genius. Chocolate Chip = Can compete with the best. If you don't like The Cookie Cart, I'm pretty sure your idol is the Grinch, or you are the person that doesn't give up your seat for and elderly or pregnant women on the bus. A good alternative to that popcorn tin... Our office was the happy recipient of a huge box of cookies from the Cookie Cart yesterday. They were delivered in the AM and I swear they had just been baked. I opened the box to find 2 dozen treats of deliciousness awaiting our consumption. I am not one to usually participate in office goodies, but after walking around and offering one to most everyone at work and finding the box back on my desk, I couldn't resist. The kids get feedback and reviews like a professional suit and tie place. Learning to take criticism about your work habits/ethic or be praised is so important to learn early. They have a really great diversity of cookies: ginger, pumpkin iced (this was in the early summer and was a treat instead of the flavor overload of Oct) coconut toffee, and your gold standards choco chip, snickerdoodle, oatmeal raisin. Youth in the community have the opportunity to work a job while learning employment skills. The building space itself is bright, welcoming, and there is a window to the baking kitchen, allowing you to see the magic behind the cookies. I've tried all the cookies in the basic line up - Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, Sugar. All three of these stand up with the best of em. They are a good full size and have the cookie texture I prefer, soft around the middle when you break it in half but a substantial crispy crunch around the edges. I recently had the opportunity to volunteer at The Cookie Cart. First I would like to say that I've never had a bad cookie. That's both the good part and bad part of being at The Cookie Cart because all of their cookies are good! I'm a big advocate for volunteering as I believe that it is both rewarding and a great way to learn new skills, make new friends and connect with your community. When our group arrived we were greeted by a young made who I believe stated he was 17 years old. He gave us a tour of their kitchen area. I felt he was both professional and mature. I'm in my mid 40's and I don't think I could have done as well as he did. We then split up in the kitchen, dawned our working uniforms (gloves and hair nets) and started making cookies. Can you believe they actually pay people to make cookies? I really enjoyed talking and working with the kids in the kitchen. This is really a great way to connect, teach and work with our younger generation. The cookies that I enjoyed after were second only to the fun I had volunteering. I will not only return to purchase some of their cookies, I will also happily recommend The Cookie Cart for others looking for volunteer opportunities. read more

I have placed multiple orders for cookie deliveries and something seems to go wrong each time. Either the orders don't show up on time, or at all, or they bill me incorrectly...it goes on and on.
