Through the generosity of my step-mother's co-workers, we began to receive weekly food shipments from Cooking From the Heart after my father had a stroke. We were in need of nourishment in every sense, and I could not have been more grateful for the food we received. Not only was it convenient, delivered to our house, and easy to heat, but it is so fresh and healthy even a Californian snob like me was satisfied. They have extensive, filling vegetarian options and are brilliant at flavor combinations. You really can't do any better for yourself or your family than this, unless you're a chef yourself. Truly worth it. Also I caught the owner on the phone one day and received excellent customer service when I asked them to make some accommodations. IF you don't have time to cook, aren't a foodie, want a healthy option, and don't want to do take-out, this is a service that you might appreciate. I found Cooking from the Heart through a Living Social deal and thought I would give it a try, even though I had never thought about enrolling in a food delivery service. Both my boyfriend and I work full time. We eat out a lot. Sometimes you just want a healthy, delicious home cooked meal without slaving away in the kitchen. Cooking From the Heart surpassed both of our expectations, and we both agree that if our schedules get too hectic we would happily pay full price for this service again. Every Thursday, we would leave a cooler on our porch and come home to find it filled with goodies. The portion size is very generous. We've tried everything from the soups to entrees to desserts and were amazed at how flavorful and hearty everything tasted. I was skeptical at first because the menu, while filled with many options, did not seem particularly "interesting". We both love meat, especially red meats. Hi: I found myself working too many late nights, then eating or ordering out. A friend--a working mom with three kids recommended CFH--I have been thrilled with the food and their service. Everything I've ordered has been good--some of the dishes have been extraordinary. We loventhe vegetarian lasagne, the onion tart is incredible, and the chicken cutlets and stuffing are great. Many people seem to find CFTH after adding a child to their lives, but my g/f and I are just really busy people who are not good cooks! We would frequently stress out over what to make for dinner -- which generally meant a trip to the store because we never had any ingredients at home -- and often end up eating poorly or getting take out. Well, problem solved when we found CFTH! While the food is very good, what really makes a difference is the reduction in stress. Now, all I have to do is preheat the oven and decide between whatever entrees we have on hand. I'm not sure I can put a price on how much it has improved our daily routine. The people ... I've never met Robin, but I've spoken with her on the phone and traded many emails. She sure seems great, and I've never had an issue with anything relating to our orders or the delivery. I've had a couple general questions, and she was very quick to reply via email. The food ... I'm a pretty picky eater, but I always find a at least two entrees I like on the menu each week. The entrees start with a base and then almost always offer the choice of tofu or a meat (chicken cutlet, ground beef, turkey sausage, etc.). In terms of spices and flavor, I'd say everything I've tried falls in a mild-to-medium hot/spicy range, which I'm sure is to accommodate a wide range of customer preferences. I like the food the way it is, but I suppose seasoning could be added to fine tune each dish if desired. We mostly stick with entrees, but the soup and carrot cake muffins I've had were great. As for portion sizes, I eat a lot of food, and the sizes are generally OK with me. For an average person, like my g/f, they are just fine. The delivery ... We have a refrigerator in our garage, so they use our garage code. It couldn't be easier. There is a choice of disposable containers or Pyrex. I started with disposable to be sure we liked the food and service, but we are switching to Pyrex for future deliveries. The prices ... At the time of this review, entrees are $8.75 per serving. I figure $17.50 for two people is generally less than the cost of take-out, and the food is a combination of better quality/healthier/tastier. Plus, I like that I'm essentially eating home-cooked meal. Add in the reduction of stress, and utilizing the services of CFTH is an easy decision. (I also happen to like that I'm supporting good people who are running a local, small business.) Bottom line, give them a try if you're at all interested in this kind of service. Robin and Juan are the best. I have been using their services for about half a year on and off and it's truly amazing. Robin and her teams are great cooks; their food is always delicious and nutritious. The ingredients are fresh, and you can really taste the passion that goes into every dish. My favorite things about Cooking From the Heart are: 1) You can order as much or little as you want (there is a $50 per week minimum but I think that's very reasonable), they post a menu for every month online, and you just pick and choose what dishes you want. 2) Lots of services these days deliver the ingredients, CFH delivers fresh already cooked food to your door.Lots of my friends use blue apron or other similar services, where it's $9-10 a serving, and you still have to do all the work. CFH charges about the same and you don't have to do any work! 3) For the service and quality, their prices are REALLY reasonable. Sure, you can probably go to Chipotle or Thai takeout everyday and spend about the same, but their food is a lot healthier. 4) You're not obligated to order every month or every week. For example in the summer I grill a lot so I don't order for a couple of months, and then resume in the fall. 5) Juan personally makes the deliveries and he's the nicest person, super accommodating too. I don't know what I'd do without Robin and Cooking from the Heart! I went through a period of 80 hour work weeks a few years ago I quickly found my time and energy available to prepare healthy meals vanishing. Let me tell you, I tried a number of not-so-good options before finding this service. Now, once a week I come home to find a week's worth of delicious and healthy home cooked meals waiting for me that I can either eat right away or freeze for later. I'm now a full-time student, and I've decided that this is a little luxury in life that I can't live without. I started using Cooking from the Heart 2 years ago when I was stuck on bed rest during a pregnancy, lived on the 3rd floor, and had a young child that my husband was now solely responsible for. I could sign up for service and they would deliver freshly prepared food in glass pyrex dishes to your house (wonderful touch to serve your food out of a dish rather than a plastic container - they also have the option to have disposable plastic containers). They will keep a copy of your key and place the food in your fridge for you each week! This was essential when I couldn't even walk down the stairs to open the door for food deliveries and now that my husband and I work full time. The food is fresh and very healthy with a nice variety. They offer a vegetarian option for almost everything. I had used meal assembly services before but the focus was always meat and they were wasn't much in the way of vegetables. Cooking from the Heart offers well balanced meals with plenty of vegetables and also incorporates fruits. The meals freeze well, the fresh salads are excellent, the soups are great, too. The meals are $8.50 per serving - so $17 for 2 people. Note, that I find the portions to be pretty large for most dishes so we often get 2 meals out of what is advertised as 1 meal - or leftovers for lunch at work at least. If you find yourself eating a good amount of take out and want something healthy with more variety, give Cooking from the Heart a try. read more

I've been ordering from Cooking From the Heart for about a year and a half now. As other reviewers have mentioned, their policies are so easy! I can order week by week or get the delivery discount by ordering for the whole month. I don't love everything I've tried but I appreciate the freshness and the variety. I do not like to cook for myself and when I do it's the same things over and over. CFH gives me dishes I would never make for myself and they're healthier (kale, quinoa) and more adventurous too. The portions are usually enough for 2 and sometimes 3 meals which means I can bring the leftovers to work for lunch the next day. Robin and Juan are great-glad I found their service! read more

Our friends gave us a 'gift certificate' for this service when my wife went into preterm labor and had to stay off her feet for a while. Our baby is now 8 months old, and cooking from the heart is a monthly staple for us. The portions are very generous so $200 a month buys us 3-4 dinners for two plus a few small lunches or sides each week. The menu changes weekly, so there is always something new and delicious to try, and Robin and her family cook from a variety of cuisines each week including Italian, Asian, Tex-Mex and more. Best of all, Cooking from the heart has great meat-based options for me and a fantastic variety of vegetarian options for my wife. We highly recommend the cutlets, soups, burritos and the stuffed sweet potatoes, which I am frankly addicted to. I can't say enough good things about Robin, her husband, and their food. Cooking from the heart consistently delivers up tasty, healthy, affordable food to keep right in our fridge or freezer until the moment that we need it. If you don't have time to cook every night but still want to eat healthily, than this service is far and away your best bet. No other delivery or takeout option comes even close in quality, let alone price. Best of all, Robin and her family have always been kind, helpful and accommodating when we have 1)forgotten to mail in our monthly check on time 2) had specific dietary requests 3) needed to make changes or 4) suffered from other related cases of new-and-exhausted-parent brain. If you are unwell, a new parent, trying to eat healthily without enough hours in the day, or otherwise in need of some healthy, affordable food fast, give Cooking from the Heart a try. I used this service for a few months when I lived in Massachusetts and LOVED it! The food was delicious and so convenient. I saved so much time on cooking/eating out and it was healthy! I really appreciated that they used low fat, low cholesterol. I'm vegetarian, so its not always easy for me to find meal delivery places that have options for me- but they always had plenty. And it wasn't just that they took out the meat-- they would always substitute some protein source like tofu. They responded right away to emails and ordering was easy. If I forgot to order one week, they would even email me to ask me if I was still interested (who does that anymore?!) The delivery was reliable, and Juan was so wonderful about delivering to my car. (Once, he even warned me that my car was about to be towed! I owe him big time!!) I loved that I always had fresh, healthy food to eat in my fridge! I especially recommend the macaroni and cheese, and the fruit salads yumm! The people at my work were always intrigued by my lunch and wanted to order from Cooking from the Heart themselves after seeing my food! I probably would have used them forever if I hadn't moved away from Mass. I am still looking for a service like them in my new town but haven't found anything like it. The food is absolutely delicious and tastes like a home cooked meal with each bite. The salmon had some impromptu visitors for lunch to our home raving and wanting to also sign up. I ate the turkey salsa verde burrito late one night and could not have been happier despite having to work really late to meet a deadline. We are coffee snobs and foodies (we are followers of Eater), and we could not be happier with having discovered Cooking from the Heart. The menu has great variety. The service and delivery has been perfect. We have saved money over takeout/delivery in a huge way. I was very surprised by the negative reviews as we have been very pleased (and yes, contrary to one of the reviews we ARE foodies). It's wonderful to get that delivery and know I have wholesome options there for my family of four. The food is delicious, tastes great, feels natural and home cooked (no artificial ingredients), the menu has great variety, so you never feel like you are getting the same meal over and over again. I signed my son up for CFTH after he found himself working 7 days a week for two jobs in addition to taking two three hour evening Master Degree courses in Computer Science. It was all that I could do to ease the pain. The food is nutritious, healthy, and very good. They offer many vegetarian options. Not everyone can make tofu taste good, but CFTH does. The monthly menu offers many options, and I was excited to read the menu every month and happy to order new and different dishes. That's not to say that the old standbys like mac and cheese, eggplant parm , etc, weren't appreciated as well. The portions are very generous. My son is 6'3" and the serving size was more than adequate. The meals also can be frozen with no loss in tastiness. That is a real plus. The baked goods are a nice, decadent treat. The carrot muffins were a favorite. Just what one needs at the end of a tough day! The delivery to the front door is as reliable as the Post Office. With all of the snow and bad weather, they never missed a delivery. I could not not go shopping, cook the food, and deliver the meals for the price they charge. I find it very reasonable. It was a life saver for my son. Should I move back to Boston, I would get the meals for myself! read more
