I went to Cool Blue Salon and clearly asked for a haircut only. No one told me that a blow dry would cost extra, and without asking, they started blow drying my hair at the end. When I went to pay, Yassmina El Jawad told me the total was $80 instead of $35. When I asked why, she said it was because of the blow dry. I explained I never asked for that, and her response was, "Well, you should've stopped him." That's an unacceptable and unprofessional thing to say. How would anyone know to stop something they didn't know wasn't included? It felt like a setup, a way to charge more after the fact. They're scamming people by adding services without consent and then blaming the customer for not knowing. Yassmina was rude, dismissive, and had an attitude the entire time. She rolled her eyes, talked over me, and acted like I was being difficult just for asking a question. When I questioned the charge, she decided to "rinse it out," not as a courtesy, but clearly out of spite. She rinsed my hair with plain water after it had just been exposed to all that heat, completely undoing the style and drenching my hair. She didn't even towel dry it, just sent me out with soaking wet hair. It was petty and careless, and it left my hair feeling damaged and dry from all the unnecessary heat and water. That's not something any professional would do. Afterward, management responded to my Google review in the same defensive and condescending tone, basically proving my point. Instead of apologizing or taking responsibility, they tried to justify everything by calling it "policy." Their public response just confirmed how they actually treat customers, with no honesty, accountability, or respect. It wasn't just the employee, it was the management too. Any decent salon would have apologized and made it right. This place has no professionalism, no integrity, and clearly doesn't care about its clients. Do not waste your time or money here. read more

DONT GO THERE!!! One of the most expensive yet pathetic salon i have ever been to..They charged 125 dollars for hair style that i did not want. Showed Sam picture of hairstyle and he made my hairstyle completely different and in literally five minutes without curling,back combing or anything..We were running late so i had to left and as soon as i came out of the salon my hair were all over the place became totally messy and my event was ruined. Called them and they were extremely rude and inconsiderate and completely disregarded my complaint blaming me and weather which was great that day. I went with my sister in law because she is the one that comes here and has her hair done by him. Going in as you know to a new salon not knowing the hairdresser is like going into a cave you don't know what or who you will encounter. I had huge butterflies in my stomach because I haven't had my hair touched in over a year!!! I sat in his chair he looked at my hair and said first off what would you like? Which made me happy because he didn't recommend a million things and overwhelm you, I told him what I wanted how I wanted it held my breathe and handed him my head sort of speak. Mind you we drove 2 and a half hours for him!!!!! Well 2+ hours later I looked into the mirror and didn't even recognize myself!!! My hair hair looked PHENOMENAL!!!!!! THE CUT THE COLOR THE HIGHLIGHTS OOMMGG!!!! I would drive another two and half hours to come here again!!!! The price wasn't bad either I was shell shocked. The only thing is the receptionist wasn't very friendly at all we walked in. Do you have an appointment that's all she asked, and when we were done she gave us but we had to pay no thank youse no smiling. I truly don't see this salon staying open for much longer for many reasons. I made an appointment for a toner and toner only. I WAS a blonde and wanted to tone it lighter. Mr Allen here said he'd be recommend that I tone darker to help even out my previous balayage. So I agreed to go a little darker but still wanting to stay blonde.. I thought I could trust his opinion but turns out he's a fraud. We did my roots and he toned my hair in the bowl then leaves to go to a funeral so he didn't even stay to see the final result which I thought was so weird and has never had a stylist do that to me before. Another stylist washes out my hair and I was in disbelief when I seen my hair was all brown. I was a brunette!!! My hair was so dark it almost looked black I couldn't believe my eyes. My hair was lifted to almost a platinum when I walked in. He did what he felt like doing and not what I asked for. When I went back for him to fix it he threw a whole tantrum I felt like I was talking to a little boy he was acting like such a diva. He was extremely rough with my hair and fried my bangs blow drying them on high for so long. I left in tears. Worst experience at a salon in my life. Also they had a Ramadan special for a balayage cut and toner for $125 but charged me $130 for a root smudge and toner? Money hungry people and not honest stay awayyyyyy!!!! read more

I originally emailed areej back in January 2021. I wanted her for my wedding in December 2021. I gave her a whole year in advance. She notified me that she is only doing month to month bookings but she went ahead and took my name and phone number down and let me know when the time comes closer to December, she will notify me when to book. In early October, I had been in the salon to get my makeup done by another makeup artists when I ran into Areej. I met Areej in person and I told her that I was excited to have her do my makeup for my big day but I would need to know when her bookings open. She then notified me that her booking hasn't opened yet for December because she still has a few things to figure out. I completely respected that and was willing to book her LAST MINUTE (a month before my wedding!!!!!) only because I loved her work! I noticed that she made an Instagram post that her bookings open (without her even telling me) for December. So the day her bookings opened, I went ahead and called the salon to book when they notified me that Areej is FULLY BOOKED the day of my wedding. When I contacted Areej she told me that I will need to give her until the end of the week for her to get back to me and see if she can squeeze me. Even if she can "squeeze" me on my own wedding day, my mom and sister are left without a makeup artist. This is highly unprofessional. Just because someone has a couple of followers on Instagram doesn't mean they can disregard other people's time. This is the biggest day of my life and thanks to Areej, I had to book someone VERY LAST MINUTE after calling a million places. This is highly highly unprofessional and I DO NOT recommend cool blue salon and I definitely don't recommend Areej. If you are a bride and reading this, I am writing this for you so you don't get left hanging like I did. read more

Terrible experience. I do not recommend for highlights. The stylist rushed through putting foils on my hair, after i went home and was looking at my color, nothing was even, lots of blotchy spots, in some areas there is more than 1/2 inch root color left. It's absolutely awful!! Then when I checked out I was overcharged 65$. Why? Because he used some treatment on my hair that he didn't even tell me what it is and that it's an additional charge. Where to start? I arrived early and so did my sil. I had a hair appointment she had a makeup appointment. We both waited 30 minutes PASSED our appointment time and 45 minutes total for them to show up. The hair stylist reeked of smoke and both were in a rush because they had other clients. Neither listened to us. The bride that was there before me had been waiting for them to come back so they could make some corrections before she left. They said, "no you're fine". The hair stylist literally took a can of hair spray and sprayed her without any warning. Way too expensive for such a rushed and careless job. Honestly, even a penny would be too much. Went here for prom makeup. My appointment was at 3pm and my stylist Yasmine didn't arrive until 3:30. I was very nervous and was considering other options. Reluctantly I stayed. When she arrived her makeup was very dark, a nice look for her but not was I wanted for myself. Thankful she understood what I wanted. She did a great job on my makeup. It lasted all through prom and even stayed up into the next day. However, she didn't talk much which wasn't helping my nerves at all. She only used words like look and pointed a makeup brush upward. This may have been because she had trouble with English which is understandable. I just didn't know. Would recommend but not for events you have to attend in a timely manner. read more

If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. I am a bride and had booked a whole week prior to my event for me my mom and my sister to get our hair done at 10. FYI it wasn't the wedding I had to get ready for it was for my bridal shower. We get there and I had to WAIT for my stylist to get done with her client??????? Why was a stylist booked twice doesn't make sense. So we go to the private room since my mother and I are hijabis. I show my stylist what I wanted super simple look too and she couldn't figure it out she had to ask 4 different stylist what to do and still couldn't do it. A simple braid was all she needed to do and a bun. My braids were messed up. Lastly she took forever and started the bride LAST out of everyone in the family that booked separate the bride was done last. I had rush back home and rush my make up. Please please please don't make the mistake I made and booking a salon that has no organization nor experience to do a simple braid. I was late to my party thanks cool blue. By far my favorite salon! I drive 45mins to Cool Blue Salon to get my hair and make up done and I would drive even further if I had to! The service is great! The people are so polite and friendly! The crew treats you like family and most importantly the work is AMAZINGGG! I've never left unhappy, every time I leave the Salon i leave with a confidence booster! Allen does an amazing job with every style! I find all his work so unique! And Areej the most beautiful makeup artist inside and out, works like magic! If you're a bride do not come here. I repeat again. Do. Not. Come. Here. I did my hair and was supposed to do my makeup for my wedding at this place. Got my hair done by Sylvia and she was good with keeping the appointment and staying on schedule. So I had my hair appointment at 12 and makeup at 1:30 with areej. Finished my hair at 1pm. Wasn't seen for my makeup and gave them until 1:30 because that's when my appointment was booked for so it was no issue to wait. Once 1:30 hit and I checked in for my appointment I was told she was running 10-20mins late. I told the front desk I had to be out by 3pm to give me enough time to drive 30 mins to get ready and into my dress etc and she assured me it wasn't going to be an issue. 25 mins passed and she was "almost done just putting on lipstick" ...15 mins passed and still I wasn't in. An HOUR AFTER MY BOOKED APPOINTMENT SHE WAS STILL NOT DONE BECAUSE SHE WAS BUSY TAKING PICS OF HER CLIENT!! Running behind 15 mins is understandable but a whole hour plus some late is disrespectful!!! She took a whole client squeezed in right before taking a bride who was booked with her well over month in advance. My mom came to pick me up at 3pm and told the front desk I had to be ready by the time she reached to which she was also reassured that I would be. At 2:40pm my best friend and mom were at their door and I was still waiting to be seen. My mom is a strong minded woman who runs her own dental practice so she knows when a place is unorganized and disrespectful to their customers. Areej had the audacity to say she "could finish the BRIDAL makeup in 30mins". Last I checked bridal makeups take 1.5-2hrs to finish. What idiot would pay $200+ for a bridal makeup look that was rushed on an important day?!. She would rush a makeup look for a bride in 30 and the client she was with took almost 1.5 hours? Thankfully my friend referred me to a makeup artist Sara saad (amazing makeup and everyone raved about the way I glowed. Book her without hesitation if you can)and she took me in ASAP after hearing what they put me through. The manager/ owner ( i couldn't tell which he was) did not try to reconcile or mend the situation but wanted it all to be hushed so others couldn't see/hear the embarrassment they created. They were so money hungry to let clients think they will be seen soon instead of being respectful to our time and letting us know how late they're running so the client can actually decide if they can wait or simply find an alternative before it gets too late. So again I would give this whole establishment a -1000000 if I could! Especially don't come here for bridal! If I could give negative 3 stars I would!!! I booked a hair and makeup appointment and hair for my two little girls one month in advance. I get a call one week before my sisters wedding and I'm being told that I need to pay for the services that they haven't yet rendered because people are not showing up For their appointments. I almost lost my sh*% on the girl l!!! She wanted me to pay for my hair, makeup and my two daughters hair in that very moment...240 over the phone and I have never been to this salon and I have no idea who these people are yet. I refuse to pay the whole amount because I'm am smarter than that and told her I would pay a deposit. She needs to call me back because she wants to ask the OWNER. Calls me back and tells me to pay 100 so I go ahead and do that. Day of my sisters wedding I show up for my appointment that was scheduled for 9:30. I'm on the dot and no one is there yet. Finally a girl shows up and unlocks the door, I walk in and she looks at me like I invaded her privacy. So I patiently wait and the guy that I booked with comes strolling in at 10:10 and looks like he had the worst night of his life and didn't want to be there. So after he gets his station set up and very dryly tells me to sit. He does my makeup and tells me I'm all set. He had no idea I booked for my hair with him also but they were super quick to call me and collect money so I don't bail on him. I told him I also have hair and he says with who...I told him I booked with him and I swear he looked like I just kicked him in the stomach!!! He sits me down in a chair for a good 30 minutes before he starts on my hair...meanwhile my two girls are still waiting. Then SAM asks me about my daughters and I told him I booked for them and that anyone can do their hair. He started huffing and puffing telling me I should've said something and I told him I made reservations for them and he said they weren't on the books!!! He told me when I booked I should've gave them my girls names!!! The receptionist confirms that the books say my name and my girls are booked under my appt!!! He still has the nerve to blame me for not telling his employee to put my girls names down. Two women each start on my girls hair and mind you my kids are ages 8 and 6!!!! The one doing my 8 year olds hair complained the whole time that my daughters hair is too long and hard to brush. Their hair turned out AWEFUL! I took it down soon as I got home because she jabbed their skulls with pins and their hair looked like my girls attempted to do it themselves. Meanwhile I'm getting my 85 dollar hairstyle which happens to be some terrible waves that left me looking like my hair was in a bob up to my ears when my hair is halfway down my back. I was already running late to take family pics so when I went to pay they charged me 50 per child after they had told me it's 35!! I ask SAM and he tells me "yeah they have long hair" rudest person I have ever encountered!!! I have never felt so uncomfortable in a salon and I will definitely not go there again. Rude employees and owners, slow service, terrible terrible terrible work quality. I'll stick to my regular salon where everyone is friendly and they don't charge Birmingham prices for poor quality work. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I am a redhead with very fair skin and so i was skeptical about getting my makeup done, well i didnt need to be. She did an AMAZING job. As for my hair... It looked ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! Allen is a hair genius and so good at what he does. I was so shocked to see some of the reviews on here. I think the price was great for what I had done. He also was so nice and made me feel that I was just as much of a priority as any of the other women getting their hair done. Also I have to add that... From the start of the wedding till the end of the night I had so many compliments. Even people from the other wedding were stopping me to tell me how beautiful my hair was. Will solely not be back EVER again because of the immense amount of over booking they do. My appointment was at 11... Mind you I had called the salon twice, once to book my appointment since I was part of a wedding party- and the second time to make sure the time of my appointment since I had booked so in advance, and I asked the receptionist approx. how long it would take- she quoted an hour. Complete BS. I wasn't sat and styled until 1230. There was little to no organization and understanding of who was next to be styled, between the other clients and I it was a matter of pointing fingers of "you?" "Me?" ... My hair style was no where near what I had asked for but I needed to be at the brides house by 1 so I left with it the way it was. To make matters worse, when I told the receptionist the service I had done, an up do- she said "let me ask Allen how much it is".... Excuse me????? Isn't there a set amount??? Do you charge different customers different prices??? What the hell kind of unprofessional salon are you running??? I was warned about the over booking and I should've listened. No respect for time or appointments. I was told to give myself 90 minutes for my hairstyle. Very very disappointed with my rushed hair style that literally fell apart by Sam. My appointment was at 10, I didn't get serviced until 11:20. wasn't even what I wanted, but since I was taken an hour and a half AFTER my appointment, had to leave to another appointment and come back, I literally had no more time to get done what I was paying for. It took him 15 minutes to do my hair. FIFTEEN MINUTES. It was so sloppy and I paid $65 for it. It was not the hairstyle I asked for. My curled weren't even curls and weren't set. You could see the tracks from the extensions and the sponges stuffed in my hair. I ended up having to fix it myself. I was in a wedding party, I ran late and missed some photos that I was supposed to be there for. I called the salon THREE times within the last week and a half, and have yet to get a call back from someone like I was told. Unless your a bride paying $400 for service with Allen, you will not be priority. I'm so disappointed. I used to go all the time for my special events specifically to Allen, but the lack of management to take care of this will keep me away forever. The disrespect of appointment times is a pure insult to a client. The pictures they post on social media of their work is false advertising. I chose this salon because I had my hair done for a wedding a couple years ago and they did a natural updo with my curly hair. I went back for an event I had with a picture of the hairdo. They started brushing out my curls before they even asked what I wanted. When I showed the picture the guy mumbled something about how my hair is too short but said he would do a low bun. They completely straighten my ringlet curls and the result was horrible. I was so uncomfortable at my event because I felt I looked awful and it started to frizz mid evening as does curly hair that is straightened. Also the person who was listed to do my hair was not the guy who came over and styled my hair and I was not given an explanation of why the change. I will never go back. There was such a lack of communication and he just did whatever he wanted. Makes me think he is not competent at styling naturally curly hair. Stay away!! read more

If zero stars was an option that is what I would give this salon. Let me start off by saying the owner is HORRIBLE, he is so rude and disrespectful. I went there once to get my hair done in CURLS what I got was an Afro. The person who did my hair was the owner, and I did let him know that I absolutely hated my hair. He didn't care, never tried to fix it or anything. I paid 135 for hair and makeup, does he think we live in Beverly Hills to be paying an arm and a leg for curls and makeup? If they were good I'd say, but 135 for rude ass services and an Afro? Anyways, I get home after he had ruined my hair I go into the shower and wash my hair and redo it myself within 45 min because I had an event for myself that day. So me being me the salon I usually go to has been booked so I decide let me give this man another chance maybe just maybe he would do a good job, I book with him once again. Allen made me wait 5 hours no lie. I got there 11 because that's what time my hair was and had an appointment for makeup at 12. I waited an hour than areej told me to just get on the chair so she could start and that by the time she was done he would be ready for me. I finish my makeup and wait another 4 hours. After complaining a million times he goes to me ok sit in the chair I'll be back in a minute. He has the nerve to than call another person to come work on my hair! If I want that person to do my hair don't you think I would have booked with THAT person?! DO NOT OVER BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENTS! If you don't have time, do not make your clients wait 5 hours to get their hair done! He did not apologize, he did not try to explain himself he looked at me huffed and said "well I am busy", after I waited 5 hours he has the audacity to speak to me that way. He is sooo rude and if on my wedding day they told me that that's the only person available to do your hair, I would rather tie my hair in a pony tail and attend my wedding than have him touch my hair and get my money.
