I got my hair done here many years ago for homecoming. I have naturally curly hair. I came in for a simple up-do before my dance. Upon arrival, I was told my hair type was not really suitable for what I wanted and next time I needed to come in with my hair blow dried if I wanted anything done. She then did an up-do she thought was suitable. It was extremely messy, and I was a kid at the time and extremely discouraged that I didn't have the "right hair". It has been many years since this experience, and I hope this salon has kinder, more welcoming staff now. I unfortunately never recommend this salon anymore. read more

They don't deserve 5 stars or even a star from me to give them poor review! Shows how deceiving they are from the start! Horrible costumer service! Not professional! And not accommodating with the horrible experience I had with my service at Legato Salon in Farmington Hills. I Never had this horrible experience in all of my years! First, they called me to remind me my appointment and they gave me the wrong appointment time when I arrived! So I was late according to them; the lady who was coloring my hair was not friendly when I arrived and she rushed my hair service bc in her eyes I was late even though I had proved to them that the appointment setter got the timing all wrong! I normally always feel relaxed and confident in Aveda salon to be professional but unfortunately was not feeling that! In the middle of my hair washing she noticed the color didn't set in and wasn't covering like it should! I've been to other Aveda salons b4 and I usually love my experience, but unfortunately I was really disappointed from the start when the appointment setter gave me the wrong time, didn't color my hair correctly and the coverage didn't even last for less than a week! I called to complain this matter to the manager whose name is Sheridan; she wouldn't give me my full money worth for their lack of professionalism and the stress I felt walking into that Salon! I did ask her if I could see someone else at a different location but Sheridan said in order to get my money's back I had to stick with the same girl who screwed up on my color coverage that didn't last for the week; who I felt lack costumer service, experience and professionalism! What client wants to see the same person who screwed up in the first place!?! And anyone would feel again frustrated and upset! The whole experience there was not pleasant at all and relaxing like I had in Minnesota! After many persuasion to the Manager Sheridan, I finally got 40% of my money back and she cut me out of their system to ever get my hair done at any of their locations when all I was asking to get fully refunded which a coverage I've gotten didn't last more than week (can't emphasize that enough) to give me someone else who was more experienced, had more professionalism and that I wanted to try someone else in Birmingham! Sheridan the manager, I felt only cared more of the business than pleasing their costumers which in fact we are the ones keep them into business! So, I am writing this review to forewarn you all to don't waste your time and money at Legato Salon in Farmington Hills! And to Run...far away!!! Also to read all the reviews especially the bad reviews bc I totally understand why others did give them bad reviews to put that into consideration and God knows of other countless reviews that they have that goes unheard! Also note that they don't have much current reviews to show their quality and a legit company that they currently stand for is another red flag! No one should ever be treated like this and put their money to a company that doesn't live up to what they stand for! **I'm Replying back to Karlyn C the owner: You didn't give me 50% back; I had to persuade numerous times to Sheridan to give me full refund or half of my money back! I have been going to Legato for many years, and have always been pleased. The service is impeccable. My stylist is Angie. She has guided me through several hairstyles over the years, listening to what I want and helping me make decisions about a hairstyle that fits me. I have highlights and low lights in my hair, and have gotten many compliments thanks to Angie's expertise. She also helps me make decisions about products. I recently talked to her about my styling brush because I wanted to stop using a curling iron. I have been able to transition to the new brush and I'm happy with it. It was a learning curve for me in how to use it, but I'm so glad I made the change. The staff at the salon are always respectful and helpful. read more

Flawless experience today at Salon Legato! I am always happy with my time here, but today in particular was stellar. Greeted by name by the front desk reception, offered water/tea/coffee... waited about two minutes for my stylist, Emily( always surprised how prompt everyone is, so refreshing ) and as I was getting comfortable I was told about some new products ( which i was interested in ) and during my service they would use them and see what I thought. ( again, soooooo nice!) Today I had color, glaze and blow out. I should mention I ha copper color hair, which is very tough to maintain, however Emily is so perceptive and amazingly talented with color formulas. She has colored my hair four times in the past year and she hits it spot on every single time. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I do appreciate her attention to detail ( she checks my ends, recommends next time to cut or trim, asks how I feel my Aveda products are doing, addresses any issues or questions I may have about them, makes notes on my current color formula for next time ) and of course thanks me for coming in. Just such a perfect experience. I also noticed today, how happy everyone seemed. Each stylist was providing their talent to their client and the salon was filled with smiles, laughter and good energy. I have been going to an Aveda salon for almost 20 years. Before finding Salon Legato, I had been to THREE other salons. So, four different stylists in ONE YEAR. ( one at Salon Legato, who I adored, but she left to pursue a different career) I can confidently say, I put Emily and the team at Salon Legato in my top five salons of all time, and I've lived in 6 different states and seen stylists at every level of certification of their careers. I love this salon! I've been going here for years and never been dissatisfied. Once you step in your greeted asked if you want anything to drink and given a nice robe. All the stylists are great, although I'm partial to Marissa, she's amazing at coloring my hair and wonderful to talk too (you never want to be stuck in the chair with someone boring) the head massage with the shampoo is so great I would just go there for that. I definitely suggest going a little early to get parking and meet your stylist, but you won't be disappointed. read more

She is always ensuring that the length is good and has excellent taste when I want to change up my hairstyle! I just had my first facial with Rachel and I feel so refreshed and rejuvenated! I had expected work on my face only, but she massages my neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs and feet leaving my entire body very relaxed and well hydrated! I had my first appointment at this salon today. My stylist was Angela. I am Black with curly textured hair. I was very pleased with the job she did. I came for a cut, blow dry and flat iron. She was very well trained in how to do my type of hair. Angela is a fabulous stylist and I have already made another appointment to see her. Normally, you would need to schedule three months in advance, but because of COVID, her schedule is more flexible. If you have textured ethnic hair, don't hesitate to visit this salon. As I stated, I question your business practice of notifying CERTAIN clients by email of a SIGNIFICANT price increase and not others. My daughter and I have been clients of your salon for three years. I understand everything is going up in cost, but a service that goes from around $140 to $300 since October and not be told at the time of booking is outrageous. Leaving the burden to your client to figure out major price hikes on your site, in other words, blaming the client for your poor customer service is unacceptable. Even my teenage daughter and her friends all agree that this was excessive pricing and wrong to blame us. Went in for some Balayage. I waited a month to come in for my appointment because they were so booked. I won't use her name but the stylist who did my hair did a very lazy and sloppy job. She was also a bit rude and brought up strange things for discussion. I was in the salon for 3.5 hours and left with barely any color difference in my hair, let alone a balayage effect. Even after discussing my experience and hair history, how willing, and not afraid I would be to achieve the effect I was expecting as an end result. I went home upset, and came back to the salon to be fixed by their color specialist, which at first experience was very nice and quick. Upon my return visit with the color specialist I was left on my own with color being forgotten on my hair, and another long visit for no reason. Their color specialist has since moved on to another studio out of state. But I won't be going back here from the experiences I had. My first hair stylist is also still currently working here. I wouldn't recommend her for anything other than a sloppy hair cut. read more

I'm back at Legato. Yes, I left. Yes, I jumped around from salon to salon. Like a vagabond, I was (or at least my hair) was without a home. I had a pretty valid reason for leaving. In my prior review, I mentioned that it was because I thought the pricing schedule was getting a bit out of my range. That's a half truth. I really left because I was dissatisfied with my then-stylist. After an unprofessional move (comment) on her part, I decided to go elsewhere. But then I bounced around, from Walled Lake, to Novi, to Canton and beyond. Yet, no other salon felt right. I always loved Legato. Its close to home, it's in the heart of the cute downtown Farmington area, it just feels like my salon. I decided it was time to come back, but this time I went to Melissa. Hellz Yea! Miss Melissa is the shit! She's hilarious, not gossipy, not ditzy and she does one mean highlight/color combo without taking up half your day. I had been searching all over for an Aveda salon where the stylist actually listened to me and did what I wanted as opposed to what they wanted, and this is the place. I have been going to Salon LeGato for almost a year and have been thrilled with the service, products, and staff. My stylist is Angie and she is phenomenal! I have curly, red hair and she has done great things for my cut and enhancing my color to make it the best red ever :) The Aveda products are wonderful! They are mostly natural and the manufacturing plant is actually wind-powered. Pretty cool in my book! Everyone on staff seems to be very knowledgeable and up-to-date on the latest styles and techniques. There is a day spa with amazing sounding treatments (I have yet to try the spa) and they also do nails and makeup. Her consultation was thoughtful and on point. She helped me verbalized what I was looking for and she did a great job executing it. She gave me fabulous ombré coloring and an awesome haircut to go with it. She was so friendly and cool and I felt like I was talking with an old friend. I'm very surprised at all the good reviews here! I was looking up some salons in my area and came across this page and poor memories. I remembered having a hair cut there several years ago and I never went back!! I was about 57 years old at the time and the waiting area was VERY uncomfortable with the chairs almost to the floor and difficult to get out of. Then I went to the miniscule changing area and had difficulty finding a place for my clothes. The stylist was kind but I think, freaked out about my bad scalp and that my hair was out grown. The style was nothing like what I asked for, and when I went back for the time limited "adjustment' (another word for fixing a mistake), she still didn't cut it the way I needed it or short enough. I believe she did a BAD haircut so I wouldn't go back to her... Suffice to say I was extremely disappointed and never considered going back, even to another stylist. I just came home from a wonderful appointment. Parking is a bit crowded around the salon, and I had to call the receptionist for recommendations. She was very helpful, but a spot opened up just as I got off the phone. They offer water, tea, or wine, which is nice! I went for iced tea, but next time I'll get wine :) I've been to Aveda salons before and this one was on point with my previous experiences. Abbie was cheerful, patient, and diligent! She understood what I wanted even though I didn't have a picture on hand.
