I've had dinner here recently quite a few times because the service is so superb! My drink never goes empty. The servers are always smiling and happy to help. The food is bombtastic. One of our favorite places to eat. Food is always great and cooked perfectly. Definitely 5 stars on food. Docked 1 star because of the reception/host staff. Waiters/Waitresses are always great, but every time we go in, which is quite often, whomever happens to be hosting and seating seems to always be a bit rude. This is one of my favorite restaurants. It is pretty consistent. I always order the same thing, the Santa Maria Hand Carved tri-tip with sautéed mushrooms. It is so good! This is one of the best restaurants in Fresno/Clovis. The food is delicious. The cowboy theme is fun. The waitresses are mostly attractive. This is where real men dine. My favorite menu item is the Rib Eye with mashed potatoes. It comes with endless salad, beans, and bread. Drinks come in glass jars. Everytime my friends and I go into CHL we have an awesome time. The staff is what keeps us coming back. They are friendly and will do whatever it takes to make sure we are happy. The manager Bianca always makes sure to come by and say hi whenever she sees us. We love how the bar is now set up there seems to be alot more room and we love it!! I really don't enjoy giving bad reviews to businesses, I just won't go back. We've eaten here several times ( 5 or 6?) in different cities. All of them had great service and atmosphere but as far as the food goes it was bland and boring. They're very inconsistent when it comes to their steaks too. You might get a good one then again you might not. One steak I got had so much fat on it I had to send it back. There was about two bites of good meat on it. Really? That's just laziness on the cooks part. Word of mouth goes a long way in a business. If you want a good word I suggest you guys be more consistent in the quality of your food. read more

2 stars (instead of zero) for the wait staff - service was really excellent. Food, on the other hand, not so much. Ordered a New York steak that I doubt was really a New York cut at all - it was thin (only about 1/4 in thick) and grisly, loaded with sinews and fat. I had ordered medium rare and it came out medium well. The salad before the meal was lettuce and onion...no tomato, cucumber or anything...just some sad lettuce. Others at our table did not enjoy their meals either - all were over or under cooked, over sauced, and poor quality. Can not imagine referring to this place as a "chop house"?!?! Please. read more

This was my first and last visit. The steak was flavorless and over charred. It kind of tasted like sandpaper was in my mouth. The prices were OUTRAGEOUS when compared to Outback, which offers much more flavorful steak for much less money. I'd rather make the 30-minute drive across town than dump another $35 here. Received a gift card from a family member for Cool Hand Luke's. I think I was confusing it for Sweet River Cafe that use to be in the same area but across the street. Was pleasantly surprised by Cool Hand Luke's. My husband and I stopped in for a late dinner tonight, Thursday evening, around 830pm. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot. The bar area was lively and there were still several people eating dinner. My husband order the Thursday night special Prixe Fix dinner. Meal came with dinner rolls, herb butter, beans, tri-tip, mushrooms, lobster mac n cheese, and vanilla bean ice cream for $16. My husband really liked the beans and was surprised that when he finished the small pot, it was immediately filled again. The size of the tri-tip was very small, however, he had so much of everything else that he wasn't disappointed. My husband also added a baked potato to his meal. Needless to say, he didn't finish and had leftovers to bring home. Since I am vegetarian and don't care very much for seafood I had a little more of a difficult time deciding what to order as the only non chicken/beef options were seafood. I ordered from the smaller portions menu on the very back. I ordered the crab cakes and chose mushrooms for my side. My meal also came with soup or salad. I expected either just one crab cake, or two small crab cakes. The two crab cakes were good sized. They were very light and moist and were not overly greasy or fried. For not being a lover of seafood, I would definitely order the crab cakes again. Our waiter was Francisco and he was very nice and attentive and always offering to get us something. The food was awful. Most people at our table was complaining. One of the people at our table was having a birthday and they did not care for the bread pudding and he said normally it tasted good. You know the food is bad when you have one order for take out and for a $26 steak and you give it to the dog. The steak had no flavor. My New York steak had a lot of fat. My fiancé's burger was cold and his fries were hard. And the service was also bad. The server got orders wrong and other people at our table weren't very happy either about their food. The server took a while to get our boxes when we asked for a box for the soup before our dinner even arrived. After our server was paid he left the room and didn't ask anyone if they wanted refills or anything. They didn't also keep bringing out bread and chili beans for our big party there was 30 of us. We've been here several times, mostly when they first opened. It was a great place. The food was good, the drinks were good, generally a nice place to eat, it was always packed. Went here for my daughter's 21 birthday. Right off I noticed something wasn't the same. The atmosphere had changed, there were very few people there. I'll start by saying our waitress was fine. The food was mediocre at best, the whole place seem to have a diner vibe. But what killed it for me was at approximately 9:15 before desert was ordered, I ordered one more beer, that's my desert. The waitress comes back and says, "sorry, the bar is closed." you just don't do that to a group that's working on a few hundred dollar tab. You don't refuse a man his last beer. All combined was enough for me to be comfortable with a decision to never return. I just wonder what's going to take the place of this failing diner. read more

Came here late one evening after class with the sister ,because I was really craving steak, and had a pretty decent experience. Our waiter was really cool and attentive, and you get a lot of food for the price you're paying. The place was clean, and the atmosphere in the dining area felt cozy and comfy. Started with the seared ahi I think it was as the appetizer and it was delicious. The salad for the starter was good, the beans were okay, but that's only because I'm not a fan of beans, and the warm rolls were okay. I ordered Luke's 10oz prime rib and it was huge. I give it a 4/5 rating. My sister ordered the prime rib with sautéed onions and garlic, and hers was real tasty. Definitely a 5/5. I really wanted to try the strawberry pizza, but we were stuffed. Outstanding! Went here after a recommendation from our hotel. We had a variety of steaks with a family of 5 and they were all delicious. Flavorful, juicy, tender and cooked to perfection. You get a huge amount of food with your entree. Including warm bread, great bbq beans with a little kick, soup or salad and a list of potato or rice to choose from. Highly recommend! Def a upset drinks were not good bloody Mary lacked spice and martini was not made properly. Then on our food the steak was raw and the refire on it looked like it was it was smashed in the grill. Awful,,,everything was awful. The atmosphere was nice but the food; hubby and I had the rib eye. The cut did not look or taste like rib eye at all. Full of grease, gristle ligament and flavorless. Garlic mashed potatoes, so gross. Tasted like they were cooked in dirty water and left to sit in it. Beans ok but tasted old. Ordered a Caesar salad and got an Italian,,,that or just a really funky Caesar dressing lol. Extremely disappointing. Won't take another chance, especially after what we paid. read more

For a steak house, I don't feel they have a signature steak that you go specifically there for. Just like any other place your server helps make the experience better. The bar area has plenty of seating and lounging area for medium sized groups. They do have some, if not the best dinner rolls in town with spicy beans as a starter. read more

I liked the interior in the design and the way it was set up the food was pretty good unfortunately the service was terrible they forgot about us took 20 minutes to get a drink order 30 minutes before the food order we were there an hour before we ate. And they're pretty expensive. I will say the manager was very apologetic. But I doubt I'll be going back anytime soon read more

I've been coming here forever & was irritated tonight to be told that I could not substitute a side dish without getting charged. Quality of the food changed when they changed to their current menu a few years ago. I have given them a try a few times but the quality was lacking. It used to be one of my favorite places to go eat steak. I tried their dash door service. The dash door menu is limited and confusing. I never have any idea what I'm exactly ordering. For example, you are unable to order extra single serving sides, only family sizes for a few sides. Ordered an entré that required a dressing choice, the no selection said no salad. Got dressing thinking my entrée would come with a salad. All I got was a dressing side. This is too bad. I wish they also offer bread and beans as a single serving with the entrées for an extra fee (I understand it is complementary in the restaurant with some entrées). I wish they improve because again, this place used to be one of my favorites for casual dining. Right now, I'm hesitant to recommend it. read more

Our hotel across the street told us to try Cool Hand Lukes and what a special dinner we had there! Our waitress, Patty, was awesome and the food was absolutely terrific. My husband had the New York Steak, but I had "chuckwagon chicken" except I asked for the chicken to be replaced with shrimp. I had soooo much shrimp that I just couldn't eat it all. But before it came out, they brought out a little can/pan of sort of very liquid chili that we dipped the fresh bread in.
