The food was absolutely fabulous, but what truly made the evening special was our waitress, Anne. Anne has a cheerful, professional personality that immediately made us feel welcome. She was attentive, friendly, and helped make our family celebration feel extra special. She checked on us throughout the meal, anticipated our needs, and always did so with a genuine smile. Celebrating a 92nd birthday is a memorable occasion, and Anne played a big part in making it such a joyful experience. The appatizer was a dozen raw oysters on a half shell. So good!! Cocktail sauce and lemon was what was used. Wasn't a fan of the vinegar The main dish for me was salmon tacos with the french fries. The wife had the poke bowl. Both of them were great. All good until we were almost home. My stomach started cramping something painful. We were looking forward to going back. I probably won't. We don't go to Pismo's often, we enjoy it every time. Today we went at 4:00, beating the dinner rush. Seated quickly and drinks served rather quickly. Our waiter was cheerful, helpful and accommodating. I ordered a cup of whit clam chowder, the swordfish dinner with cilantro rice and satiated mushrooms. My daughter ordered a cup of chowder as well and the fish and shrimp player with garlic fries. Everything came piping out, delicious and juicy. Seasoned perfectly! I've been here three times in total and and Pismo's had consistently good good, consistently great customer service, but consistent bad timing when it comes to food delivery. A recent visit here had us waiting a long time for our mains. From ordering to being placed on the table, it took 30-minutes... my wife and I both ordered salads. Our drinks and appetizer came out quickly. We ordered the pistachio crusted calamari which is amazing and is a must order. It comes with their house aioli sauce which is delicious! I ordered the entree sesame shrimp salad and added tri-tip steak. This salad was huge and filled with chopped cabbage, sesame shrimp, cilantro, ginger marinated shrimp, crispy wontons, carrots, peanuts, and miso sesame dressing. Crunchy, filling, and full of flavor, this salad definitely eats like a full meal. To be honest, I didn't need the extra steak, but it was cooked perfectly. My wife's bistro salad was very lackluster; basically just a small side salad. But for $15 we figured she's at least get something a little more substantial. No sweet potatoes, no dried cranberries, and pumpkin seeds. It was literally just lettuce and cheese, see the added pics. She did order a side of steak as well. The appetizers were amazing! The bread was my absolute favorite. The ceviche was also super yummy! However, that's kind of where the good ends. The service was mediocre at best. We were seated quickly but once seated, it felt like we were forgotten about. It took awhile to get our orders taken. Once the order was taken, the food came out quickly after. But once the food was out, we were hardly asked if we needed refills, etc as opposed to other tables near us. We also waited quite some time for a check. The entrees themselves were fine. The salmon and the miso cod were very good but the sides were bland. Always a great meal at Pismo's! The crab cake lunch special was a perfect amount of food. The sauce they use for the crab cake is addicting. I could literally eat them everyday. We recently dined at Pismo's Coastal Grill. I will start by saying that even with a reservation, please plan on waiting. For appetizers, we ordered the cocktail shrimp. The shrimp were a great size and tasted fresh. The cocktail sauce itself was good, but the horseradish topping (or whatever was on top) wasn't very god and took away from it a bit. My father-in-law ordered the fried shrimp and our friend had the fried fish and shrimp combo. The flavor was good, but there was quite a bit of breading and unfortunately the fries came out cold. Th server was able to get these replaced for another batch. My mother-in-law had the cioppino and said it was just okay, it was very hot and clearly fresh, but it lacked flavor. I ordered the crab cakes, which were tasty but on the smaller side for the price and they also came out cold. The atmosphere is lively but definitely loud, and service was a little slow. That said, our server was great, friendly and attentive so no complaints there. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but it didn't quite meet expectations for the price. Wanted to amend my review after 2 stars from several years ago as I am writing it off as just one bad experience. This was much better last night. We started off with the sourdough cheesy bread, which I think is the best deal on the menu. We ordered it with the sauce on the sauce which made it great for dipping. The halibut bites were also very good. I did my usual "off menu" request of a Calamari Club sandwich and this was the best one yet. It had avocado, bacon, arugula and a great sauce on it. Decided to roll the dice and try Pismo's for the first time for my sister's special birthday dinner and SO very glad we did. We had an absolutely amazing experience, from beginning to end! The environment is lively and super comfortable. The place is way bigger than I anticipated, with plentiful seating options in both the dining room and around the bar. I'd read that this place can be a bit loud sometimes so I requested "a quiet table (if there is such a thing)" when I made our reservation and they delivered. While I always expect the quiet place to be tucked away in some corner, we were led to the center of the dining room and honestly, it did seem quieter than other areas we had walked though to get there. Yay! Super friendly service from the time we arrive to the time we left. The young man who was our server (I wish I remembered his name ~ Andres?) was just incredible. So helpful and just a delight. And he had some great recommendations, including the scrumptious cheesy sourdough round and the tri-tip appetizers. Yum! Sissy splurged on the full lobster tail, hubby got the halibut and I got the prawns. All entrees come with two regular sides or one "primo" side. We all went with two regular, including the potatoes au gratin, brussels and grilled artichoke. All were delicious and portions are super generous. We were so stuffed we couldn't even consider dessert but they knew we were celebrating a birthday so they brought out a warm brownie a la mode with a candle for the birthday girl. My friend is a local who has never made a bad recommendation this place included. Saw that from the moment we walked in. The hostess, who seated us was thorough and friendly, and said expectations. Stephanie was our server and she was awesome. She said you cannot go wrong with the pistachio crusted calamari and she was definitely right. Service was great. Food was delicious, drinks were on point. Would definitely recommend this place. Casual atmosphere, but definitely could dress up a little bit and still feel in place. I definitely recommend making a reservation, as this place gets busy. We booked ahead after hearing how packed it can be and were seated within about 10 minutes. The ambiance was great--I loved the low-light dining vibe. The restaurant is fairly large with plenty of seating, including bar seating. We were seated at a table. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly, and the manager even came over to thank us for coming in and for our patience. He explained they had just finished a quick staff change and were getting everyone readjusted, which I thought was very considerate. That gesture made us feel genuinely welcomed. We started with the garlic cheese bread, and it was AMAZING. It was sourdough bread filled with cheese and topped with garlic--full of flavor and absolutely delicious. We also ordered the crab cakes. I'm personally not a big fan, but my dad enjoys them. I tried them and thought they had good flavor without being overly fishy. My parents and I ordered the classic fish and chips. The plate comes with four large pieces of fried fish, coleslaw, and your choice of fries: regular, sweet potato, or garlic fries. I chose regular fries, while my parents ordered the garlic fries. The fish and chips portion is very generous--easily enough to share between two people. The fish was perfectly crispy, and the coleslaw added a nice balance of flavor. The fries were tasty, and the garlic fries were especially good. I highly recommend those. My brother ordered the fish sandwich. He's a picky eater, so he had it plain without coleslaw or toppings. I tried it, and it was surprisingly good--a fried fish filet served on a slightly sweet bun. It also came with fries. My husband and I are here often - twice a month for sure, three times if we can't decide where to eat. The place is consistently busy, so we rely on Yelp to get on the waitlist ahead of time. We love the themed weeks - Mardi Gras is our favorite - and the food never disappoints. Our go-to dishes are the cioppino, pistachio-crusted calamari, scallops (seriously, everyone should try these), halibut, and mahi-mahi. Everything is consistently good and generous in portion. The sides could use a little love. Cilantro rice doesn't exactly scream "seafood pairing," and the chowder upgrade was our go-to until it disappeared. Sweet potato fries are nice, but they should probably just be a standard option by now. The bartenders are fantastic, friendly, and somehow remember regular faces even when the place is slammed. They set the tone for the whole restaurant. The real standout is Steven. This guy remembers names, stories, and everything from your last visit. He shakes hands, opens doors, runs food, helps at the bar, and makes you feel like a VIP without trying. Overall, this is one of our favorite spots. We really like Pismos but this time wern't impressed. I'm hoping it was a one off and still recommend checking them out. Every time we visit Fresno we look forward to the restaurants and Pismos usually doesn't disappoint for seafood, but this time we left un unimpressed. Our server, Sierra, showed up before long and was friendly. We ordered drinks: me the Meiomi pinot which I know will be good. My guy feeling brave, the Pumpkin Spiced Old Fashion. Drinks arrived and his was clearly missing anything other than the Dickel Rye, dried orange slice and large ice cube. Sierra checked in and took the drink, had it fixed where the syrup was added and it tasted as we expected. My guy ordered the Ponzu salmon which comes with broccolini, cilantro rice and ginger ponzu. I ordered the trout with the Hoisen glazed brussel sprouts and sauteed mushrooms as sides. The food came out quickly and was hot. The thing we both noticed with both our dishes was the excessive amount of sauce. My trout was actually under seasoned, although tasty which I was grateful for because the mushrooms were over salted, the brussel sprouts super wet with sauce and my guys salmon dish with rice was an island in the ponzu sauce. All the sides were also very oily, way too much oil. I in particular cannot stand oversauced food, which seems to be a growing trend at a lot of restaurants.. I was pretty disappointed to be honest. My guy liked his meal as doesn't mind extra sauce and his did have a good flavor.. I would of liked his more, but again way too wet. In addition, our server never onced asked how the food was, although she popped in to offer my guy another drink. Mine had a few sips left and would of ordered a new one at that time but figured she'd come back where she didn't until we were finished. She was nice, but wasn't very attentive overall. When we walked out we actually said to each other "Well that was a disappointing meal". The good fare was overshadowed by a long wait time for everything. While I liked my steak and clam chowder, I'm not sure I would come back to dine in. I'm even hesitant about takeout. We waited for everything. After arriving and putting our name down for a table for 5, which was supposed to be 30 minutes, we ended up waiting nearly an hour. We even came back before the 30 minutes because we received a message that our table was nearly ready. Ten minutes went by and nothing. I asked again and was told the table was just getting cleaned. Another ten minutes passed before we were called. Had I known it was going to take this long, we would have gone to another restaurant. We had to wait some more. The waiter was nice, and he seemed to be trying. We got our beverages in a timely manner. But after we ordered, it was about 45 minutes before we got our food. How do I know this? I kept looking at phone to see how much time had passed because everyone was starving. When we did get it, there was an order missing. Surprisingly, the wait for that wasn't very long. The Santa Maria steak appetizer was delicious. I like a burst of different flavors all at once and this hit all the right notes: the sweetness of the BBQ sauce, the sharp sinus clearing bite of the horseradish sauce, and the melt in your mouth pungent bleu cheese flavors. The crunchiness of the fried onions was the perfect topping. Did I love this appetizer? I did. I had it as an entree because I was sharing the ribeye. Because the Santa Maria dish was so flavorful, it upstaged the ribeye, which ended up tasting bland when it really wasn't. It was perfectly seasoned but could not hold its own next to the Santa Maria appetizer. The clam chowder was good, but the highlight was the After all this, the question we all had was whether the food was worth the wait. When I say wait, it was about another hour before we could get the waiter's attention for the check. He had initially checked in on us at the beginning of the meal, but then mostly disappeared. So, was it worth the wait? I gave myself some time before writing the review. I needed a bit of distance from being irritated at how long it took everything. The food was good, but I'm not sure it justifies returning for dine-in. I'm considering takeout but wonder if I would need to wait an hour after they tell me when it will be ready for pickup. I'm not sure if this is typical of the restaurant. Whether it is or not, the extended wait time ruined our first time here. The food was good but certainly not worth the wait. Just finished dinner here on a work trip with some coworkers. First off, they were able to accommodate a table of 7 with relatively no notice and got us seated in 15 minutes. My husband and I love coming to Pismos. It's one of our top places to eat in Fresno. We definately have a list. Sunday, we wanted to go eat, just because. So we made our way to Pismos. Pistachio crusted calamari, grilled artichokes, Seafood ceviche, Chorizo oysters, Clam chowder mugs, and of course alcohol! The chorizo oysters were new to us, we didn't really like them. Ehh we could have did without. The seafood ceviche was ok. The chips it came with tasted stale. The clam chowder was great. I did ask him when I ordered that I'd like tapitio with it. He brought out the clam chowder , put it on the table and left very quick. Before I could get out that I still needed that Tapitio, so I sat there waiting for him to come back, I could see the back kitchen area and he just bolted to the back. So I was trying to track down another person that worked there, about 5 min later, I see him and I think he realized he forgot it then he went in the back the returned to us just holding the tapitio and walked away. Ok fine, he's busy. No problem. He then about 10 min later brought out our pistachio crusted calamari and grilled artichokes. Our staples. Our go too. Our favorites! Ugh, well not on Sunday. The calamari was soooooo overcooked, soooo flat, sooo dry, it usually is plump, has a good amount of sauce that it sits on, it's usually so good. But it was so bad on Sunday. Chewy and dry. The artichokes were also grilled to a crisp. Which I don't think was the point of grilled artichokes. The leaf meat is usually soft and easy to come off when you eat it. This crap was grilled so much that most leaves didn't have any meat on it. Just crispy artichoke leaves that were burnt to a crisp. Chandler may have noticed we weren't eating it so he asked if everything was ok. We said yea it's fine. We don't like to complain or send food back. We don't want items comped. We're not like that and we will pay for what we ordered. But we ate most of it , it just wasn't good. It was just annoying that our favorite place to come spend money served us crappy a$$ food. It was only 1p, So we didn't really think it was gonna be a bad day. When he dropped the check off he just dropped it, no words, when he picked it up, no words, when he brought our card back, no words, he just walked away like he did everytime he came. He was happy with other tables just not ours. Maybe he didn't like us, idk. I didn't think we were difficult. We ordered all in one shot. We didn't complain to him. We left hangry, and annoyed. Not saying or telling people to not go to Pismos, because it does deserve another chance, but maybe we should have complained, idk. We got seated right away on a busy Saturday afternoon, which was such a pleasant surprise and set the tone for a great meal. I ordered the Grilled Alaskan Halibut with cilantro rice and sautéed mushrooms. The halibut was nicely seasoned, though a touch on the dry side. While it's not the absolute freshest seafood I've ever had, it's still some of the best you'll find in Fresno. The cilantro rice is always a staple here and never disappoints, but the standout for me this time was the sautéed mushrooms. This was my first time trying them, and they were fantastic. It was salty, slightly smoky, and packed with that perfect umami flavor. I'd definitely order the sautéed mushrooms again. Service was also spot-on. I believe our server was Mark, and he checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal, making sure everything was taken care of. Food was fresh and flavorful, although they may have comingled our cocktails. The blood orange was tasty but the watermelon was off. I took a bite of one of his tacos before he devoured it... pretty good. My Salmon was yummy, and the rice and mushrooms went perfectly with it. I wouldn't say anything was real stand out-amazing, but it was all good. No disappointments. He and I both agreed, this was like a fancier, more variety, Wahoo's (yes, we like Wahoo's). This was his first time and my second time here (first time was verrrry long ago (all I had was the Pistachio Crusted calamari appetizer-- good). Would this be my first choice amongst other seafood places? Probably not. Would I come back to dine here? Yes. There are a few other options I'd like to try. I ordered the crab oil package with four crabcakes on the side. Once I arrive at the restaurant and found available parking right out front they also have the fine curbside pick up parking spots for customers to park in. And I walked right inside someone greeted me and asked me. Can they help me? Stephen introduced himself and was able to assist me immediately with my large holiday meal package. When visiting Fresno, my family and I enjoy checking out Pismo's coastal grill to get our seafood fix. We stopped by on a Monday afternoon after a holiday weekend and it was busy! We were able to get seated right away at one of the tables in the back. The ambiance is lively and bright - there is a large bar area in the middle of the restaurant but we usually opt for the booths or tables in back. Today was an exceptionally hot day so they had their windows closed. On cooler days they open the side windows and have misters coming from the outside which is pretty neat. For starters we ordered the sourdough bread bowl with the white clam chowder. Thick creamy and delicious! I really enjoyed the butter garlic sourdough top to compliment the chowder. I decided on the ahi tuna sashimi pizza after it caught my attention on a restaurant goers plate on our way in. Although it is listed as an appetizer, it is definitely plenty as an entree. The unique crispy rice paper shells hold thinly cut ahi with an assortment of avocado, sprouts, Fresno chilis, ginger, edamame, spicy mayo and aoli. The tuna tasted fresh and the chilis were definitely spicy! My plate did not have jalapeños or red onions as listed on the menu - which I am not sure if it was forgotten or changed based on the cooks of the day. I definitely enjoyed the crunch of the crispy rice paper shells and was full with just half. Would definitely recommend if you are a fan of ahi tuna & open to try something new! My husband ordered the fried fish and chips with cole slaw and fries. We commended the cole slaw for tasting fresh, the seafood came out warm and the fries cold. We were disappointed as my husband did not get a fresh hot order due to being too hungry to wait for the waitress to come back around in the busy restaurant. Flavor of the seafood was good overall, but it was a smaller portion than expected for the price. Haven't been to Pismo's in a few years & boy has the quality of the food gone downhill. First & foremost our waiter Alexander was outstanding a 10 out of 10. Service was great but food mediocre. Out of the 4 meals ordered Snapper was good, Crusted Calamari good, Fish Tacos Good & great wedge salad. However my Fish & Chips was absolutely horrible. Fries were not equivalent to chips & the Fish was not crispy at all & was very oily. To be quite honest I've had better Fish & Chips @ Long John Silvers for half the price. Probably my last time eating at Pismo's! Very disappointing! But I need to add that the Bananas Foster my Daughter got for her Birthday Dessert was outstanding. read more

Have always loved this place, but this might have been the last time. We arrived a quarter till 7 and was told an hour wait, so we walked to the bar and found one seat. The bar seemed to be hopping but the bartender said it was slow. We order two of the specialty drinks. Service was good not great. Some seats opened up and I set down and we ordered another round, again drinks were good and so we order an appetizer fish on fried rice. We got called that our table was ready so we left. Appetizer showed up and was pair for this course. Fish warm, rice hard as a rock. Wife orders scallops that are crabcake with peas and scallop potatoes. This is where the dinner went bad. Scallop potatoes room temperature, peas hard and cold the cheese didn't even melt on them. The rest was ok at best but for a $200 dollar dinner that was probably the last time. Hope they can get it together, it's always been a good stop but just to many misses this time and the waiter completely unaware. Honestly as packed as this place gets, we always have a good experience. It's very fast paced but this establishment works well to get people in and out in a timely manner without feeling rushed. Our food was great and definitely hot off of the grill which is the best! The sourdough stuffed bread is always a MUST!! The steak was perfectly cooked, very tender and flavorful! Very disappointed. I have been to Pismos several times and it has never been my favorite, but after this last experience I won't be back. Our waiter was terrible. Didn't offer a smile, tell us what the specials were, check to see how our food was nor check back in any way, shape or form. When we ordered our appetizer and drinks, we received our drinks and then he immediately asked us what we wanted to order. I explained that I didn't want to order right then because I wanted to be able to have the appetizer first, but he assured us that he would make sure that the meal came out after the appetizer. We weren't even halfway through the appetizer before our entrées arrived. I thought I was getting halibut and garlic mashed potatoes but instead they were very blah mashed potatoes with a very blah gravy. When I asked for a "to go" container for our hot crab appetizer that we didn't have time to eat, he brought me a plastic clamshell, even though we needed something to pour the dip into. I asked him for something that we could put a liquid appetizer into. He then took the plastic container and brought me a small round container, which is what I had expected. However, we also had the crostini that came with the appetizer so I needed a place to put that so I needed him to bring me back the original appetizer that he took after depositing it at our table. The dinner was very mediocre and my friends french fries were warm at best. One of the people sitting the guests was dressed like an exotic dancer. Her breast were barely contained in the tight top that she was wearing, and her cleavage was all you could see... I truly couldn't even tell you whether she had a smile on her face because she obviously intended everybody to look at nothing but her breast. I find it shocking that this is considered acceptable for families coming to have dinner at Pismo's. As I stated earlier, this has never been my favorite place, but my friend loves seafood so I was treating her to dinner. Pismo's has definitely gone downhill. read more

From the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the tone for a semi-upscale with a relaxed, coastal vibe that made it feel both special and comfortable. Think beach-town charm meets modern dining. The service was a highlight of our visit. Our server, Hoff, was fantastic and incredibly kind, attentive, and struck the perfect balance of being helpful without hovering. His laid-back and friendly energy was such a warm welcome for our first time there. As for the food , wow! Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. The fish tacos were the absolute standout and hands down a must-try. The ceviche was good, though I personally wasn't a huge fan of the sauce it was served in. That said, the quality of the seafood was undeniable. Pro tip: this place is always busy, so make a reservation if you can. We did, and it made all the difference.
