We looked all around Kauai for Split AC Quotes, and Cool It Kauai was the only company that showed up on time for the estimate and is completely Kauai based. Van gave me a quote- seemed a bit pricey but he guaranteed great quality work, and besides, I could never get another quote for comparison! It did take a while to get the install scheduled, as the company is really busy, and there were some times it was difficult to communicate, but they had staffing issues in the office. End result- good install, great systems, polite and professional workmen. Would use them again, and we LOVE our new AC. Don't know how we ever lived without it! read more

This is a delayed review for service performed on September 12. Van happened to be assisting with the telephones when I left my trouble call message on the 11th, and CJ --Cool It's technician-- was on our side of the island the next day. CJ stopped in to do a diagnostic. I was very pleasantly surprised that he got the AC operating again that Friday afternoon (dye was added to the system so follow-up will be required). Regarding : "Cool It Kauai" Air Conditioning : BEWARE I started with Cool it Kauai when I first bought my 3 bedroom condo in 2019 for a vacation rental on the North Shore. Van and his team were very nice and installed eventually 4 Fuji AC's over that first year that were fabulous at the beginning. 'Cool It' was set to maintain these 4 units annually and all seemed good until someone new took over the office, who was literally so cold and dismissive to my concerns over the equipment and the ever increasing costs to have them maintained, If I mentioned it was an emergency she would nearly double the costs, so it was best to be patient even though we had guests harassing us for an instant repair. Her name was not Skyler, in fact, I must agree when Skyler came, she was a welcome asset to the office. She actually seemed concerned and was always trying to be helpful. However when there was a need for a repair, and all 4 units were still under warranty, it seemed no matter what the diagnosis was the warranty never covered "those" things... That's about when the red lights started flashing and it was around this time they added the 'travel time' costs to my bill! Are you serious? We finally left last year when they couldn't produce or provide our warranty information. Information that only they had, since they were entrusted with buying all 4 brand new Air Conditioners, so surely they had all the paperwork, including the warranty info that it came with! However I spent nearly 4 months trying to get that information from them, only to finally be told, "You can call Fuji and get it"! Really? Omg! The new company acquired that information at the get go and has already had 2 repairs that were still under warranty (3 were 6yr warranties and one was 12yrs), so all equipment was still covered, but Cool It wouldn't honor it or bother with it!! It became impossible to receive this simple information or any reply that did not escalate our dismay. Beware of this company, Cool it Kauai! I will never do business with them and I recommend you think twice before hiring them as well. They will add extra charges to your service, will miss your appointment without notice, and will not accept Yelp promotions despite them still being active. I'll explain my experience with Cool it Kauai to help inform others so they can be warned about some of their poor business practices. 1. We called Cool it Kauai and spoke with Skyler to get a verbal quote. Skyler provided a reasonable quote, but mentioned nothing about charging us an extra $125 just to drive to our place, despite us asking about all the fees+charges up front. In reading more of the reviews in depth on here, it sounds like they have a habit of doing this. After the unit was cleaned, they provided the invoice with the extra "driving time" charge disguised as normal working time. It was only after me inquiring with Skyler, and Skyler having to confirm with what Skyler called "the owners", that we were informed we were being charged the extra $125 "driving fee". I would have no problem paying this, as long as we were made aware when we received the original quote, and it was called out as driving time on the invoice. Skyler and "the owners" would not honor their original quote and kept the extra $125 driving fee on the invoice. 2. When it was time for our window of when they would come by to clean our units, no one ever showed. We had cleared our schedule for that day so we could be present for the cleaning. Only after we called to check when they would arrive did they say they would not be coming any more and we would need to reschedule. A little courtesy goes a long way if you're not going to make it within the confirmed window. 3. And finally, we purchased an active promotion on Yelp for $100 for $150 worth of work with Cool it Kauai. Upon following instructions on how to use the promotion, Skyler mentioned the owner doesn't use Yelp and won't accept any promotion purchased on the platform. I see he is very active on Yelp, regularly responding to negative reviews similar to mine. So it's publicly visible that they regularly use Yelp. She threatened to charge me extra fees and send me to collections if I didn't pay the extra amount covered by the Yelp promotion. Another shady business practice. Hopefully Cool it Kauai uses this exposure to their faulty business practices to rethink their strategy and improve their customer service. Think twice before you decide to work with them. read more

Van installed 2 mini split units in our townhome which serves upper and lower floors independently with only one unit outside. The units are hidden in the attic and crawl space so appear like regular central air. Very happy with the A/C units and services to maintain. Dried up our buckling wood floors so they laid flat a week after installation. read more

I've been using cool It Kauai to service my AC units for about 1.5 years now. I am very happy with this company. Service is great, they're on time and even squeezed me in last week at the last minute. I can't say enough about Cool It Kauai AC! Van, the owner, is knowledgeable, responsible and very professional. We just had an AC installed and it was installed promptly within the dates given. Van's techs, Steve and Kyle were amazing. I was expecting a total mess but they were so clean AND the cleaned up after themselves every evening. Now, this may not seem like such a big deal on the Mainland, but 'Island time ' is very different and this is unusual. Finally, we had special requirements and Van researched the issue and came back with the perfect ( hopefully) solution. So now we are sitting in Kauai watching the surfers in 74 deg. comfort. We are so thankful that we found Cool It Kauai AC and felt we should share it with you. It's been a year since we've had our air conditioner installed and I can't express how happy we are! The guys that comes into your home to install the units are amazing! They are very respectful, very clean and efficient work and if they do make a mess.. they clean up after themselves. We have an 8month old puppy who is a rascal but the workers were very patient with us and very understanding. Hands down, they are the bomb.com! However, the reasoning for this review not being a full 5 stars is because getting in touch with their office is really a pain. It's really impossible trying to get a hold of them via phone.. there was one point where we called 15 times in a day (during business hours), and no answer..we left messages and never got any call back. This company has been servicing my a c which they installed for a few years, and every time there is a complication. The office is disorganized, they give little satisfaction in customer complaints and if I'm the only one of their one thousand customers which the owners makes me the only one they ever had trouble with, I suggest you gain from my pain and hire someone else as their thousand customers keep them too busy to be well run or even willing to converse with a kapuna to resolution. I never write reviews, but I was really disappointed with this company. I picked this company because of their good reviews and their promotion. Yes, it was the cheapest price at that time, but I regret having picked them for that reason. It was only $500 different than other company and what I got was unprofessional work and service. After two weeks they installed AC, I found the codes cover was hanging from my celling. I contacted Van and he said he can come fix it, but after a week he never shows up. I have to rent out my condo to guests so I have to hire someone to fix it. Also my new AC is Not parallel, the left side is tiny bit lower than right. It's small but annoying. They made a scratch on the celling, and they made two 2 1/2 inch holes in my wall and charged extra $200 to fix the holes. I filled the holes myself. (It should be in the contract that I signed, that they won't be responsible for drywalls holes, but it would be great if they kindly mentioned it before making doing it) And they seem really busy, hard to be on time, not responding my email or texts, took longer than they said in the beginning, and always postpone schedule. I am really sad about the result of my AC installation. It was a huge decision to me to have it installed. And I have to find someone else to maintain my AC because I can't really trust them. read more

So disappointed. I hired them to come out and fix my AC. They make it really difficult to speak to a tech. I had another company out the week before to give me a bid for a new unit and my AC was down. They took a quick look and pinpointed the problem but did not have the ability to fix it. I contacted Cool It Kauai to do the work and the tech came put flipped on the AC and I received a bill saying it worked fine. A week later I had yet another AC company out and they found the exact problem the first company found and fixed it. Now I am out $130 to pay Cool it Kauai for flipping the switch and doing absolutely no investigation. I cannot recommend this company. I explained the situation to the receptionist and asked them to waive the $130 but she was not open to that. Shame that no one guarantees their work these days. read more

Called in the morning (11/3) to make an appointment for our leaking AC. A female representative advised they had a technician in the area but could only respond after hours (like 4 or 5 pm). It would cost $265 for the first hour involving overtime and another $185 for additional hour thereafter. As we had to address the issue right away, we agreed and they confirmed the appointment. I was told the tech would give me a call as they leave for my place. With this assurance, I didn't reach out to other AC repair places. Several hits passed and no phone call. It was now close to 5pm so I tried to call them but to no avail. The next morning (11/4), around 7:50am (they advertised 24/7) to try to talk to someone to find out what happened but no one answered. At 8:01am, someone from this business called back (only to return the unanswered phone call without realizing it was us) to which we complained about the previous unkept appointment. She began telling us it was a different rep we spoke to and that their understanding was that we didn't want the service because of the cost being too high (a complete lie) and that they could come out after hours the same day if we wanted. I didn't want an A/C unit hanging on my wall in my Princeville townhome. Van worked with me to create an A/C system for my tri-level unit at Villas of Kamali'i that is hidden in the crawl spaces and vents out to the rooms, almost like central air. I am extremely pleased with the units and the service. They went above and beyond to meet our expectations, were professional, on time and cleaned up as as they worked. The price was fair and it has only added about $60 a month to my electric bill and I use it almost 24/7. The two zones can be run independently (Fujitsu) and work well at cooling and dehumidifying. There is one outside unit. Having had central air on the Mainland, I was astounded at how quiet these units are. We can barely hear them. I bought a little temperature and humidity gauge and it runs in the comfort zone now (under 60% humidity). I had buckling of my wood floors when I moved in and they were getting worse. I thought I was going to have to pay thousands to get it fixed but the A/C pulled enough moisture from our unit to flatten all the floors! What a great bonus! I no longer have a moldy smell in the lower level or worry about moisture ruining my books or clothes in the closets. It also helps to keep my unit clean and bug free. No more mold growing on grout or woodwork. I love to cook and pretty much gave it up here due to the heat. I can cook again comfortably! I have recommended them to all my neighbors and they have installed similar systems in other units here. I recommend them highly. read more

He was helpful in explaining what needed to be done and when we ran into a technical problem he was quick to figure it out! His crew, (Michael especially since I worked with him the most) were very polite and professional and kept me aware of what was going on since we have several units in our commercial space that they were working on and maintaining. I can't say enough good things about Cool It Kauai and their crew. Michael was amazing! I would have been thrilled simply with the fact that he showed up when he said he would--that's not a given here. But he also was very knowledgeable, took the time to explain it all to me, was very polite, friendly, and just a really nice guy. Most importantly, he got the job done. That was at our home in Haena.
