I was a massive fan of Cool Kings Heating & Air when they installed my new heater/AC years ago. The last two service calls have been concerning, and they have lost me as a customer. Cool Kings Heating & Air expects a check that day, yet the customer must call and email to obtain a receipt after the check is cashed. I trusted this company that I would be fairly charged. It never occurred to ask them about the pricing before the work. Or, I have to get in writing something I paid up front for a year of service. I understand that all small businesses are struggling with the economy; however, Cool Kings Heating & Air's approach will only lose repeat customers. Scenario 1: I am still waiting to receive an accurate receipt from October when they charged me up front for having my AC checked when summer hits, as I had called them to check my heater before it got cold this year. So, for their "maintenance plan," I still do not have it in writing. I am willing to take the financial hit in hiring another company to post this review. An ethical company provides an invoice/written agreement after checking the heater when they charge you also to also check the AC IN THE FUTURE the summer. Or, they just charge you for checking the heater [and since Cool Kings knows everyone is struggling because they continually cite the economy certainly this would be more aligned with what their customers are enduring.] Worst case scenario, an ethical small business would itemize future work that has already been paid for so that the customer has it in writing they have paid upfront. Cool Kings refuses to send me a receipt for that future work. And it took me three months to receive the inaccurate receipt forcing me to pay for both checking my heater this October and some future scenario to check the AC in the Summer. Scenario 2: I have a clear posting on my front door that surveillance cameras are around the property. Cool Kings service call caught on camera urinating in my front yard. This after they returned from making a run, indeed they could have stopped somewhere to take care of their 'business'. Price gouging and gaslighting are shocking. They advised me I would get a receipt before they cashed my ONE check. [They have it itemized as two checks.] This did not happen. I finally received my receipt, and after writing a check for 15 minutes of work, a new filter housing and filters, it was not for $650.00 but for $450. I politely called this to their attention and asked for a refund. They already knew I thought $650.00 was exceptionally high and had ended that conversation last week politely, electing to take the high ground and not write a negative review. I even told them that. They told me the invoice was for another customer. [which is odd since I have such an unusual air filter size]. This begs the question of why this company charges different labor rates? $245 vs $189 an hour. They said it was for a thermostat. Odd, this work took them all off 15 minutes, if that. And they did not offer me a repeat customer discount per the first invoice [$78.99]. I purchased a brand new system from them years ago. I have included copies of both invoices for the public to review. There are not two hours of work. I had called repeatedly and sent numerous emails after they checked my heater in October for this filter replacement situation. The owner tried to gaslight me that he had been by my house and yet had no answer as to why I was never given a phone call or a text if this was indeed the case because I knew this was a falsehood and would have had that on my surveillance cameras. I am home all day, don't miss much, neither do my neighbors. After months of trying to schedule an appointment and many failed no-shows, I had to reschedule out of self-preservation for an important client. Can you blame me? Bottom line: in October, they had the measurements for the filter housing and THE original, and the owner tried to say he had a new one that had gotten bent, and it was my fault. So, why did they show up, leave, get the filters and housing, allegedly special orders, and charge me for all that time when they could have shown up with the needed materials, just like all the other professional contractors do? Cool Kings should have arrived with the part in hand since we proactively provided them with the original part and they had the dimensions in October. Due to poor preparation, I was charged two hours for 15 minutes of work. If you have been a customer of Cool Kings in the past, believe me, they have changed. Go through my profile. I always write good reviews. However, the public has a right to know these guys do not respect their long-time customers. They will tell falsehoods on the phone and attempt to gaslight you. We had an a/c breakdown in August during temps over 105. I tried to schedule service with multiple companies, but they all had a one - four day wait. Luckily, I found Cool Kings (great ratings). I spoke to them at 11 am, Levi arrived at 3 pm and had the problem fixed by 3:30! The cost of the repair was $250, which I felt was very affordable. Not only were they quick to arrive, Levi was professional, friendly and funny. He took the time to show us some preventative maintenance we could easily perform to avoid the problem in the future. Set the appointment and got a confirmation through text for 5pm. At 5:50 I called the office to see if someone will come out still they said yes they will contact me. I finally got a call at 6:05 and the guy told me he wants to reschedule cause it's getting late. I asked twice before I booked if they can make it. They said yes. I left work at 3pm to ensure I'm here on time, no call, no update, nothing. Then when I had to follow up I get a cancelation? No thank you, I'll look elsewhere. I suggest you do the same. I used to think they provided good service. Recently my AC went out and I called them because they were the installers. Happily, they responded the same day. The son Levy now responds to the calls. They seemed to know what they were doing and did a thorough check on the system supposedly. However, this wasn't true because they did NOT check the drainage line. A simple look down the hose would have shown it was clogged. Then when I called the office next day, Friday, I told woman my AC was still not working. I got no call back. Again on Monday, I called Levi directly and told him. He said he would call back. Two weeks later, he hasn't. He left me in the hot Texas heat! I don't need poor workmen or service like that. Our AC went out during one of the hottest Junes on record - and I was 6 months pregnant. These guys came out same day and immediately replaced a part on our 17 year old system to keep it running. They made no attempt to pressure HVAC replacement (though it would be reasonable given the age of the unit). We are hoping to move forward with the necessary system upgrade with them. About a year ago we had to replace our very outdated ac/heating system and spoke with Corey for a quote to do the job.His price was definitely comparable, but he went above and beyond, making sure to include in his work details that were not even mentioned in the quote. People in this company have a fantastic work ethic. Now, a year later, the thermostat was acting up-it wasn't lighting up. It's hard wired so it wasn't batteries. One call to Corey for advice and he came right over saying that the thermostat acts up when the drip-line is blocked. Sure enough, it was blocked from the rain splashing mud up into the drain. I had them out 14 months ago to address a stopped drain pipe. I was told my 20+ year old AC system should really be replaced before it went out. I bought a new system and the install went fine. Owner upsold me on an air purification system. I have horrible allergies so I went for it. That system blew out my AC fuse twice. It's been unplugged for months with the promise they were ordering a new one. I needed new air returns installed. They asked to wait for it to cool off. Of course that suddenly cost more and they didn't have the parts, etc. My electric bill actually went up with the new unit (explain that one) so I had them blow insulation in the attic. First major heat wave and all of the sudden I have water pouring down in my master closet. They didn't have the drain properly aligned with the pump (or it got bumped During the insulation) so it dropped water down the side (see Pic) for days before it finally crashed through the ceiling to over $700 worth of damage (see pic). Two days ago, my system suddenly stopped cooling.. in Texas... in July. The next morning they came out and turned it off so that it could thaw. They came back, charged it and told me they had to order a part but it should be OK until then. The next day it got to 92° in my house. They came that day (to their credit) and installed a new component. While doing that they scraped my wood floor... badly... and didn't tell me. I discovered it after they left. They are very nice (even if I had to point blank tell one of them to put a mask on in my house during a pandemic). And they a very responsive. But I am out to $13,000 and I have never had less confidence in my air-conditioning. And in them. Oh and my $1000 air purifier is still unplugged in the attic. "They forgot" they were suppose to order a replacement. Now they can't get one because of the pandemic. ****Since I originally posted this, the owner has been in constant contact and is trying to make this right at no small expense to himself. They've replaced the inside unit, sealed ductwork, etc. He also said he has addressed behavioral issues that exasperated my issues. read more

2 years ago I had Cool Kings come look at my AC, and they said it needed $4000 in repairs and could die any day. Of course I got a 2and opinion. The other company did an inspection, gave me a little freon,and said I was good. 2 years later my AC still works great. I waited to post this to make sure who was right. read more

Con artists, pure and simple. I had an AC leak that I called them to fix. They hard sold me on a VERY expensive replacement for the whole unit. It cost as much as my car. All along the way they never once showed up on time, never followed through on any of the extra promises they made, brought in other contractors who left permanent damage in my house, and now 6 months later... it's leaking again FROM THE EXACT SAME SPOT AS BEFORE. So tell me, why did I have to take out the biggest loan I've ever taken to replace this AC, when it didn't even fix the fucking problem? You can bet I won't be using them again. read more

Having moved to Austin from coastal California, I knew next to nothing about AC. We didn't need it! However, in Texas, it's a life and death situation... I first had Corey and the Cool Kings team out to my house last year for what turned out to be nothing more than a clogged drain. Despite my embarrassment (me being a "DIY" guy typically), with Corey there are no dumb questions, and he took the time to also clean the coils and to educate me on ways to extend the life of my geriatric Carrier. Well, we managed to make it another year on the Carrier, but a few weeks ago we finally blew the fan on the internal unit. I immediately called Cool Kings, and only Cool Kings, for a diagnosis. In the end, our options were either throwing many hundreds of dollars into trying to extend the life of our current system (again), or a complete replacement. Once I got over the initial shock, and made the mental leap to replacement, Corey took care of the rest! He provided me with several options, at various price points, and we eventually settled on a York. Two days later, Cool Kings was back on site, and by that afternoon, beautiful, cool air was flowing once more. The installation was fast, and professional. (I work from home, and was able to carry on with my day - including several meetings - with minimal noise or interruption.) It's a good feeling when you can have "strangers" in the house, and around your family, and feel 100% secure. Not that I consider Corey a stranger by any means. The next day the company called me and asked if they could check my AC, I was not available. Another appointment was made for the next day, again no one showed up or called. I'm done with cool kings. The Cool Kings team was AMAZING! This family-owned business was SUPER responsive to my email inquiry. They bid against two other large local corporations, and not only came in 30-50% less cost for comparable equipment but they only took one visit to review the premises, cover their recommendations, and bid. Both other companies took two visits---not very convenient for a homeowner who has an office job and difficulty getting home for contractors. The other companies took up to 3x as long on their inspection and bid process. All companies were able to provide financing, but Cool Kings took care of the entire application process and I had an answer within an hour. Cool Kings were able to schedule me for installation just a few days after their bid, and arrived promptly, ready to go. Not only was I super-impressed by their work ethic, I was also amazed that they swapped out two pieces of equipment in real time with their supplier---they weren't satisfied with the out-of-box quality of the equipment (dings and dents) and made it perfect! Cool Kings has also taken care of all of the warranty and rebate paperwork, and have continued to prove highly responsive after the installation. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with them during the 2x/annual warranty visits, and HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking to have HVAC work or equipment installed. read more

Be wary of salesmen in disguise, and always get second opinions when you can... I called for an A/C check when my system was only blowing hot air. Cool Kings was responsive and came to our house quickly. However, I soon learned that my A/C system wasn't the only thing blowing hot air.... by the end of their visit they were stating that my HVAC system was full of Freon leaks, that the condenser and the evaporator needed replacing. The fixes ranged between $2500 and $7200 (to replace my entire system), they were so confident in their evaluation that I almost fell for it. However, after getting 2nd opinions nobody agreed with Cool Kings evaluation. The problem was actually a burned up capacitor in the condenser. Had the Cool Kings crew taken the time to remove the access panel they probably would have seen this. All in all, this $100 part from another repair team returned my system to it's original cold blowing glory. Overall, nice guys but I don't appreciate being lied to. read more
