Dinner yesterday after work. Cool vybz restaurant. Service was amazing, place was spotless & so friendly and really wanted to make sure we got what we loved. Jerk chicken, peas & rice and hot cabbage slaw. I had my jerk sauce on the side because I thought it might be too spicy for me but it wasn't so I kept dipping. Lol Pineapple soda and sugarcane & natural fruit puree. Of course 6 beef patties to go! It was very delicious!! They are known for their food truck ( see where they will be on Instagram @cool vybz and for their Wednesday all- day buffets. Open for 9 years, husband and wife team from NY of course. Go NYC!! Chef was so nice he came out to check on us & invite us to the buffet since they didn't have the coconut pineapple shrimp dinner that night. Wednesday they have the whole menu on the buffet. My boyfriend and I ordered takeout from here. We got the curry goat and jerk chicken. Keep in mind, we called earlier to make sure they had the food available because they are always out of items. They told us they had jerk chicken, so we went ahead and placed our order. When we arrived to pick it up, they told us they didn't have any jerk chicken after all. My boyfriend asked if he could substitute oxtails to accommodate for the misinformation we were given, but the lady told us no and said we would have to choose something else instead. This place is horrible. The customer service is disappointing, and it's frustrating to be told an item is available only to find out otherwise when you arrive. read more

All start off with saying I did not eat at the restaurant. I ate at their food truck. We ended up ordering the Fried Chicken, beef empanadas and Cheesy bacon fries. The food looked good but we had some problems with it. To start the fried chicken although had some sauce was really dry as if it was overcooked. The sauce itself wasn't bad but a little to sweet for me. The side of rice had decent seasonings. The beef empanadas was also very dry and too strong of a cinnamon flavor or something. The Cheesy bacon fries was probably the best thing which not a culinary masterpiece but again was pretty good. My guess would be the restaurant would be better over the food truck but it would be a hard sell for me to try it again. read more

Located one block off of I-17 @ Northern, this quaint restaurant has limited options, but a line out the door. You cannot call your order in during Covid. You can choose between the red snapper, the goat or chicken curry, the oxtail, or the jerk chicken. Prices for portion are adequate (lunch specials). I got the jerk chicken and bought the same for two of my coworkers. The spice level is right on! Everything compliments. I wish I got a larger order. Order time to walking out the door was less than five minute. We'll be back. 5 stars (?) Update: We've been back. A couple of times. Learning that although they have five menu items, the flavors do change about each time you're there. The jerk chicken to us doesn't taste like jerk chicken at all. From the warm hospitality and Jamaican Pop to the deep and robustly seasoned meats. All entrees come with rice and peas and pickled cabbage. I love how flavorful the rice is and the cool crunch of the cabbage. I ordered the Brown Stew Chicken as recommended by our warm hostess. The stew is slightly spicy with a sweet and savory tang. The bone-in chicken is well marinated and fall off the bone. Watch out for small bony pieces which come with slow cooking with bone-in chicken. They serve up both white and dark meat. I finished my meal with a side of fried plantain. They were beautifully caramelized. Yum! May I have another order please. Full of Jamaican clientele, CV serves up nosh that is soul food. Cons: Both meats could have been cooked down a little more. There was per usual a ton of rice. The rice n peas was ridiculously spicy. I have never had spicy rice n peas. My family is Jamaican. The service is horrible. I requested no rice and peas and requested just the Cabbage and plantains. The owner kept saying you want extra Cabbage instead of rice and proceeded to charge me for extra Cabbage. I told him I don't want to be charged extra. I have never had Jamaican food before but I am so happy I did. Honestly, the jerk chicken was so good, we left and ate there for about 3 strait days after! Found this place doing this current pandemic I found this cool little spot. I called ahead and they said they were not taking phone orders. Perfect. I came in and was greeted by for the customer service. I ordered lunch special which came with 1/4 of a chicken veggies and rice. The jerk chicken was very season but lacks sauce or a jerk spice. I've been to many Jamaican restaurants And also have travel to Jamaica several times so I understand the meaning of a jerk chicken. I wish they offered more sauce on the side or the chicken. I've been to the restaurant a few times. Every single time I go, the cashier has an attitude. Almost as if they're upset that you disturbed them by coming in and ordering food. Also there is NO sense of urgency. There can be line all the way out the door of customers who have not yet even placed their order and there will still be no haste to the cashier or cooks. When you first get there you're greeted by the Jamaican flag that let's you know you're in the right spot. When I walked in there were only a couple of customers there, of course since they're a new spot. I just wanted to try the basics to see what they were about so I got a to-go order of curry chicken and I also ordered a beef patty. I'll be honest, the best thing from my meal was the beef patty. The rice and peas wasn't bad, a little dry but flavorful. I only had a couple pieces of chicken, a thigh and a leg that were extra small, there was no curry sauce, mainly oil and there was no flavor to the cabbage. Prices were fairly average, ranging between $10-$15. Would I try them again? Maybe, but I think I'll let them get settled in first. read more

The wings were so good I wish I got a dozen. They were grilled so the had great flavor. The beef patty was good too. Perfect size for a smaller meal. I'm from the Bx, NY and I've been to plenty of Jamaican restaurants cuz they are on every corner. This place would be my first time trying the food. My husband bought me the jerk chicken and that wasn't jerk sauce cuz usually that's marinated into the chicken and the sauce was watery with no pepper or taste to it and they piled a bunch of rice and peas to make up for the little bit of chicken in the meal. My husband asked for sauce on the rice and peas none was given. Oh they needed to steam the cabbage a little bit longer cuz it was hard. I would get oxtail or cow foot juice on my rice and peas cuz, I don't like dry rice and peas!!! Each lunch special came out to a little more than $8.00 and comes with rice and a cabbage veggie mixture for the sides.
