Found this gem of a place while on a hunt for some good Jamaican beef patties. We tried several places before coming here and we can finally say we have locked into a place. Whenever we crave Caribbean food, this is our go-to spot! We have been here a few times before and have loved the food so we wanted to share this place with family. And the night was a success! Everyone loved the food! The highlight was not only the flavorfully packed food but genuine, personable service. The chef came out to talk to us for a substitution for one of the dishes and came out again before we left. Our continued favorites in order are the Cajun Fettuccine, beef patties, braised oxtail, shrimp rundown and the jerk chicken. Bold flavors and generous portions. And a total chill vibe. Found this place as I was looking for Black Owned Restaurants in Scottsdale. It's located in an unassuming strip mall; but there's identified parking right in the front of the restaurant. From the outside it doesn't look as large on the inside but it is! If you're looking for a spot to have an event, this could be it. We were set quickly b/c it was a weekday and it wasn't crowded at all. We ordered curry chicken patties, jerk shrimp, jerk chicken and two alcoholic drinks. Everything was delicious! The goat curry here was so good I ate around the bones. One of our group had ordered an app of the saltfish and conch fritters to share and they were gone in minutes. The place wasn't super busy in person for a Wednesday night but they had a steady string of pick up orders. I recently visited Caribbean Palms and walked away with mixed feelings. First off, the service was great. The woman kept checking on me, and I actually liked that the cook brings out the food that's a nice personal touch you don't see everywhere. That said, the portions were underwhelming. I understand it leans more toward a dine-in experience, but the oxtail serving felt small. The presentation almost plays tricks on you it comes on a large plate with separate bowls for the sides, which makes it look like more than it actually is. On top of that, having to choose between cabbage or plantains felt a bit limiting for sides. The rice was a little dry and slightly hard for my taste, but I will say the plantains were really good sweet and done right. I couldn't help but compare it to another Caribbean spot I recently tried in Glendale, where the portions were generous and the oxtail was big, tender, and full of flavor. Here, the flavor was good, but it didn't stand out. I've definitely had better, so my expectations were a bit higher. Overall, it's not a bad spot it just feels pricey for what you get. I spent around $60 total: two cocktails at $15 each, plus the oxtail at market price (which can run $30-$40). The biggest plus is convenience it's close to home, so it's an easy option when I'm craving Jamaican food. Immaculate vibes. The restaurant is clean and well-decorated with plenty of seating. The dancehall mix playing while my friends and I were there had hit after hit. The entrees were delicious and filling, well-seasoned, and tender. If you're expecting a constant, hovering service, don't come here. I threw out the piece I bit from and found a homeless man at the bus stop a ways down and gave it to him just not to waste. This place has been around for years and is the closest to authentic Jamaican food my husband (who's Jamaican) has found. The food is always on point, flavorful, and feels like home. The service is a little slow due to being made to order, and while the inside is nice and calm, the staff can be a little rude -- but that's just the Caribbean way! Saturday night dinner on Island Time. The kitchen is turning out some fabulous food, but the dine in pace is definitely laid back so pre-order takeout if you are in any hurry at all. This is a cute restaurant with cloth table linens and a menu of fun activities like brunch and taco Tuesday. I would like to check out brunch! But back to dinner last Saturday. Shame on me, I ordered the rum punch, and a second, without asking the price first. It was a sweet tasty single shot rum drink in a tall skinny glass, but set me back $11 each on the bill. Ouch. Appetizer Shrimp Rundown was amazing!!! Coconut sauce was drinkable and delicious, with little strips of red pepper and carrot like you would find in a Thai curry. However, the warm spinach salad was swimming in a sea of at least a half a cup of honey mustard dressing. Really? The carefully sauteed mushrooms were completely undistinguishable in the salad dressing soup and the tiny bits of pear, walnut and blue cheese were drowned. How to ruin a beautiful dish. I wish I had taken a picture!! Spouse ordered the jerk plate with rice and peas and sauteed cabbage. All excellent and mildly spicy. We ordered wings to go for our teenager at home, and although we thought we had ordered him a market price appetizer of just wings, what we got was a plate with a few wings and more piles of rice and cabbage. Server did not clarify which style we wanted, and we didn't know enough to specify. So the food took FOREVER to come out, and then appeared all at once. How about serving us the salad and appetizer course first? Check took forever, drinks took forever, water refills took forever, so again: if you aren't on island time plant to order takeout. I HAVE FOUND MY FAVORITE CARRIBEAN SPOT!!!! I have been in search for some real authentic great tasting Jamaican food and I am so happy to have been told about Carribean Palm. I been here on a couple of occasions and the food has not disappointed so far. I dined in once and took carry out the second time. Staff is super friendly and personable. It's a blessing and curse that I do not live closer to this location to satisfy my cravings however whenever I am near the Scottsdale area this is a DEFINITE stop.
