    Jerk Chicken Bowl
    Melissa K.

Holy moly! Words can't even describe how amazing the food and service is here. We came in to get to go food for a late lunch/early dinner and there was only one other table in there but that didn't mean a thing. I had the jerk chicken bowl and she chopped the chicken fresh right there. I had it with the rice and peas. Chicken was extremely tasty and fell right off the bone, the rice and peas were absolutely delicious, not dry at all which is what I've had at most places in Phoenix. It came with a side of their jerk sauce which was amazing even though the chicken didn't even need it. I couldn't leave without trying a beef patty and you already know it was super flakey and the filling was amazing, just like we've had in Jamaica. I cannot say enough great things. Ambiance was casual but gave a tropical vibe with searing inside and outside. Food was also fairly priced and portions were great. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Saturday night visit. My party had the jerk chicken bowl as well as the oxtail bowl with rice and peas. The rice and peas are kidney beans and rice. Everything tasted well. The jerk sauce does not have a kick at all. It was quite bland as far as jerk sauce goes. The oxtails were very small but tasted great. I also tried one of their housemade juices that was very good. The order taker was not hospitable but was much nicer when giving the food items. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

Popped in here on a Saturday. Heard good things about it and came from Tucson to check it out. We really wanted to try the oxtail eggrolls, But they did not have any available. We did the fried chicken (with rice and peas and plantains), oxtail meal(with cabbage and plantains) and an order of the Calypso wings. The sauce on the calypso wings was not bad, a little sweet. The fried chicken was good, but the rice and peas was very bland. The oxtails were a little tough. I would like them to be more tender. some of them I had a hard time getting off the bone. And the steamed cabbage was a bland. I did enjoy the plantains and pineapple soda

Everything is amazing where do I even start. Their wings are so flavorful the mango jerk is unreal I've never had a fruit come thru so much on a wing. Sherrie is so kind. Their oxtail is like a pot roast with a flavorful broth. The building is beautiful. Love the colors. Doesn't feel like Arizona. The calypso iced tea is the best I have had not sure what flavors but tasted so tropical & refreshing and not too sweet. Their Mac & cheese is not to be slept on.

Ms Martha's never disappoints! I've been to beautiful Jamaica and the Caribbean islands a few times and let me tell you, Ms Martha's is as authentic as it gets! The patties so flaky and delicious, the oxtails, the brown stew, the curry chicken, the rice and peas, the cabbage , the sweet plantains and the Jamaican staple the Jerk Chicken all so delicious and cooked to perfection. They bottle their jerk sauce which is amazing I use it at home to season fish and pork chops. Ms Martha and her daughter are very friendly and always help you with a smile in their face. Just go there and experience it yourself!

Jerk chicken: 5/5, soft, smoky and tasty. Additional sauce on the side. I have had jerk chicken at a few places in NY and this place doesn't disappoint. Recommended Ox tail: 5/5 falling off the bones. So yummy. Not sure how the authentic ox tail tastes but this version is very good. Goat curry: 3.5/5 spices are mild or something because the goat still has the strong taste. Ok only Plaintain: 5/5 simple yet delicious

Ms Martha's Caribbean Restaurant is located in Phoenix. It's a very casual restaurant where you order at the counter. They do have a few tables inside and a few outside for when the weather is nice. They don't offer the Caribbean fish dishes but do offer the chicken dishes that you expect and also offer a special of the day so be sure to ask about the special. We tried a variety of things and everything was good and chicken dishes were cooked to perfection with perfect falling off the bone chicken (brown stew chicken & jerk chicken) Portions were large too. The special today was macaroni and cheese. The pasta was soft but it was cheesier than from most places. Ms Martha was cooking and her helper were both friendly and helpful!

I was craving some Jamaican food and ms. Martha delivered. We shared bowls of jerk chicken and curry chicken with sides of rice and peas, plantains, coco bread, and a beef patty. The jerk chicken was the stand out to me. Perfectly seasoned. Nice kick. Tender chicken. The curry chicken was good but I wanted a bit more depth in flavor. Same with the beef patty. The coco bread was so soft tasted fresh and enjoyed using it to soak up the curry sauce. Service was friendly and attentive too. I would come back if I find myself on this side of town again!

Hanging in Glendale with my homeboy & he was telling me about a new Jamaican restaurant in the area that he wanted to try. Being from Trinidad I live West Indian food and was more than up to trying Ms. Martha's Restaurant Vegetable pattie & coco bread - coco bread was nice and soft, vegetable pattie flaky Vegetable plate - rice & peas, curry potatoes, & plantains. I added a side of callaloo. It was ok but lacked flavor and the callaloo had stems which I hate. My friend had the stew chicken, rice & peas & cabbage which he thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately I won't be back but he will.

I'm sorry Ms Martha, ooo, I am for real- I really did want to give you 5 stars, but my Yelp elite heart and soul could not. Full disclaimer, as a vegan, I did not try the signature jerk dishes. I ordered the vegetarian plate- consisting of rice , plantains, and cabbage. Nothing on the plate really knocked my socks off. I also ordered a vegetarian Jamaican patty, which appeared to have been pre cooked and warmed up. My expectations were perhaps unrealistic as I recently read a glowing review in the PHX news times. I'd try it again, but wouldn't recommend it to the vegan community based on their two vegan options on the menu.

The meat was tender and packed with flavor, simmered in a savory gravy with onions and peppers that soaked perfectly into the rice and peas. The cabbage on the side added a nice, lighter contrast and rounded the whole plate out. It felt hearty, comforting, and made with patience. The team there is friendly, the vibe is relaxed, and the portions are generous. I walked out full and already planning what I'm ordering next time. Easy five stars from me.

Everything was really, really good. Seasoning was on point and nothing was overly spicy. Both meats were super tender with excellent flavor! The cabbage wasn't anything to write home about. It was just cabbage. The rice and peas were yummy! The minus one star is because I didn't like that there were four small oxtails. For the price of $27 I was expecting at least one big one. I also didn't like the amount of bones in my brown stewed chicken lunch plate and the little amount of meat given. But then again, it was a lunch plate so I get it. Those patties were everything and the plantains were chefs kiss!! Hands down the BEST Jamaican food that we've had in AZ! Give them a try!

You can choose your jerk sauce as Sweet, Mild, or Spicy, and we both went with Spicy. In my opinion, that's the way to go! It's not so spicy that it overpowers the food. Instead, it has just the right amount of heat with a subtle sweetness that makes every bite incredibly flavorful. And let's talk about the portions! They are very generous, especially for the price. In today's economy, finding a restaurant that serves both delicious food and generous portions at a fair price is becoming harder and harder, so this was a pleasant surprise. We've actually been to Jamaica, and I can honestly say this meal took me right back to our island vacation years ago. The flavors were authentic, the jerk seasoning was spot on, and the rice and peas and steamed cabbage were the perfect sides to round out the meal. I can't wait to either dine in or order from them again because there are so many other dishes on the menu that I want to try. That said...my heart belongs to jerk chicken, so I already know I'll be ordering that again and again. Finally, a true taste of the islands right here in my own backyard!

Both meals came with generous portion sizes, which we appreciated. The oxtails were the standout dish. They were tender, well-seasoned, and very flavorful. The cabbage was also delicious. One thing that was different from other Jamaican restaurants we've visited was that the cabbage included peas, which was new to us, but it was still very good. The rice and beans were just okay. They could have used a bit more seasoning and flavor. The jerk chicken was also just average and didn't stand out as much as the oxtails. The prices are on the higher side, with most dinner entrees costing around $30 or more. However, they do offer weekly specials, which may provide a better value. They also feature live music on certain days, creating a fun atmosphere for those dining in. The restaurant is conveniently located in a shopping plaza surrounded by other businesses, including Dairy Queen, Jamba Juice, Kohl's, and several other shops, making it an easy stop if you're already in the area.

The jerk chicken was probably the best I've ever eaten. Huge flavors with a hint of spicy. I ordered it with the Caribbean slaw which was amazing (I'm a slaw snob). It is slightly sweet but really crunchy. Mum's fried chicken was delicious as well. Fresh and juicy. It came with steamed veggies which were, well, steamed veggies. I'm not knocking them but they are what they are. We washed everything down with a rum punch and a cucumber margarita. Both were tasty. The chicken was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, with just the right amount of spice. The rice was absolutely delicious, and the plantains were cooked to perfection. The woman kept checking on me, and I actually liked that the cook brings out the food that's a nice personal touch you don't see everywhere. That said, the portions were underwhelming. I understand it leans more toward a dine-in experience, but the oxtail serving felt small. The presentation almost plays tricks on you it comes on a large plate with separate bowls for the sides, which makes it look like more than it actually is. On top of that, having to choose between cabbage or plantains felt a bit limiting for sides. The rice was a little dry and slightly hard for my taste, but I will say the plantains were really good sweet and done right. I couldn't help but compare it to another Caribbean spot I recently tried in Glendale, where the portions were generous and the oxtail was big, tender, and full of flavor. Here, the flavor was good, but it didn't stand out. I've definitely had better, so my expectations were a bit higher. Overall, it's not a bad spot it just feels pricey for what you get. I spent around $60 total: two cocktails at $15 each, plus the oxtail at market price (which can run $30-$40). The biggest plus is convenience it's close to home, so it's an easy option when I'm craving Jamaican food. But if I'm being honest... next time, I might still find myself making that drive back out to Glendale.

Overall, I'd rate the food a 2/10. The oxtails had little to no flavor, which was the biggest letdown. Honestly, the best part of that dish was the potatoes. Gravy was watery and greasy. The cabbage was actually good and had decent flavor, but the VEGAN mac and cheese was completely tasteless and lacked seasoning. We really wanted to like this place, but based on this experience, we won't be returning.

I arrived well after lunch and was greeted right away. The space is cozy with island vibes. There's ample seating indoor as well as outdoor. The menu offers a wide variety and they all sounded delicious. I decided on the salmon plate with rice and plantains. The entree was big on portion and flavor! I just about inhaled the whole entree as soon as I got home. Highly recommend Ocean Blue Caribbean and look forward to trying more items!

I did get the boneless brown stew chicken and I was expecting it to taste slow cooked and tender, it was dry even with the gravy on it. Maybe I should have just got the bone-in chicken. I did like the flavor but it definitely could've been WAY better. We also got the oxtails and they weren't as tender as what I have had in the past too. Again, not as flavorful as I would've expected. I was expecting amazing food and the flavor overall was just not what I expected, ESPECIALLY for how pricey everything was. My favorite thing on my plate was the plantains, that's it. Won't be going back. Upside is the service was great! Nice people and nice atmosphere.
