I've been going to the Cooper Building since the '90s, back when Guess was located on the 5th floor, and I've loved it ever since. I recently started going back to attend the sample sales, and I have to say, I was not disappointed. On the last Friday of every month, you bring your own reusable shopping bags, bring cash (it's cash only!), and shop across nine floors filled with different designers. If you love wearing the latest styles at affordable prices, this is definitely the place to be. Each designer has sales associates on the floor to help with sizing and availability, making the shopping experience easy and enjoyable. But it's a zoo so go early, it's only from 7am until 1pm. I saw some absolutely beautiful pieces, but I'm currently trying to only buy items I truly can't live without. That meant I had to exercise a lot of self-control because there were so many cute things I wanted to take home! read more

This review is specifically for the Dessert Festival that took place from July 7-8. I came here for the dessert festival and it was a huge disappointment. The decorations were cheap and the whole set up was drab. I did not enjoy my time here because it looked like it was a last minute set up. The desserts were also extremely overpriced. Everything felt like a time crunch and the lines were long. I would not recommend my friends to participate in this Dessert Festival ever again. Super fun shopping the sample sales! I went for the Halston Heritage sample sale but turned out there were a lot of other sales on different floors. We shopped Halston, Ted Baker and another small bath in suit company, sorry I think it was California Dreamin but that may be incorrect. Bought a few dresses and bikini, my hubby scored on some awesome pieces from Ted Baker. You really need patience though for some of the stores as some people were extremely rude (customers) and inconsiderate of others around them. Anyways, definitely check out the Cooper Design Center for tons of sales throughout the month! Happy shopping!! Ohhh, 4 instead of 5 stars because of the craziness of customers, valet in their parking garage is $20 cash only and just that the experience is hit or miss depending on which stores you visit. I quickly walked into Havana Vintage I believe it's called on the first floor and that was the only time it was super slow inside and the salesperson was very rude. Thrifty fashionistas take note!! Last friday of the month at the Cooper Design Space = my favorite day of the month. Park down the street, you can find lots for as little as $7, grab a juice at Pressed in the lobby and get ready to hunt. BRING CASH. Many seasoned shoppers come here every month and holy hell they are feisty. Brief reviews on some of the sales I've been to: Motel Rocks--always a good bet. Dresses usually $20 a pop, and the guys that work in the showroom are the best. Wildfox--OVERRATED. The sales usually suck, the girls are always fighting over the $20 graphic tees and nothing is as cheap as it should be. I almost always pass on their sales. Levis--wasn't my thing, selection was way too sparse. Vanessa Mooney--One of my favorites, I always hit up their showroom. prices on their jewelry will range from $5- $50 for pieces that cost upwards of $200. Reformation-- I've only seen them have a sale here once, but damn it was a good one. One can only pray that they'll have another soon. Stella 9--(In the same showroom as Vanessa Mooney) You can find some great deals on their unique bags, but don't be expecting a total bargain. Their famous weekenders are about $100 at their sales. Monserat De Lucca- Y E S. I went to their sale for the first time this fast Friday and they had a decent selection of jewelry out for--get this-- $5 a piece. So I had to buy 5 pieces. Sue me, $25 for what would have cost $350 Theory-- A SCARY SCARY place. As much as I wanted to get a pair of slacks at this sale I was actually terrified during it. Women be CRAY, I swear I almost got my head cut off every time I touched a rack. Lisa Maree-- I live for their crotchet bikini and monokinis but I just can't afford them at full price on my grad school budget. Thank god for these sample sales where I've gotten $250 bathing suits for as little as TEN DOLLARS (most are about 30-40 though) I'm feeling a bit regretful as I finish this review because I feel like I'm giving away a huge secret.....enjoy Yelpers, I'll see y'all on the next last Friday :) read more

Came here for a sample sale, and pleasantly discovered that there were tons of sample sales in the same building! It's situated in downtown LA so everything is a bit tight including parking. Suggest parking in their structure, which was 10$ to valet (unless you stay less than 30mins, but what are the chances of that?) It's a tight structure, park your car at the entrance and wait for someone to come up to you and give you a ticket in return. Take the elevator upstairs. Multiple floors, multiple showrooms and multiple sample sales...some better than others. I've been to other sample sales where parking was easier and things were roomier. Expect to be stripping in public to try on your garments. Like all sample sales, sizes are usually Medium. Occasionally you'll find a small or an XS. Sometimes a Large. Bring cash, some places are cash and card, some are cash only! Overall, it was a fun experience, had to practically pry ourselves away from the sales or we'd be there all day!! read more

We came here for the Wildfox sample sale and I had a great time. Beautiful space, it's huge with several of different brands all under one roof. The staff was friendly and helpful and ran the event well. Parking Downton is always a pqin, but there are metered spots all around, just be sure to plan on spending quite some time here. I never made it into the building because the parking attendant was BEYOND RUDE. We asked him if he took credit cards and he said "If you don't have cash turn around and exit the same way you entered" I told him that was not the way you're supposed to talk to your customers. He said something to the effect of "all of these parking garages are cash only". Then he told us to park in a certain space and when he noticed that we didn't (by mistake, we misunderstood where he told us to go) he began yelling at us telling us we didn't listen etc. I explained to him that we were not his children and we were not to be yelled at as if we were. I also reminded him that he was at work and that his customer service was poor. He came to my face and yelled "you talk too much". Then he asked us to leave, so we did. read more

Access to regular sample sales is one of the nicest perks of living in L.A. The Cooper building seems to have sample sales all the time, with quality name-brand goods going for Forever 21 prices. Parking is a bit of a bitch, but you can find street parking with a bit of diligence. When lots boast rates of $3 or $5, be sure to read how many minutes you're getting for your money. Often it's around fifteen, so careful. There are tons of showrooms in the Cooper building on more than ten floors, and many of them have sample sales at the same time. I recently went for an Ella Moss and Splendid warehouse sale and made out like a bandit. I think most of these places take credit, but do bring cash and a bit of willingness to deal with crowds and partial nudity. It's definitely worthwhile. read more

I might have been envisioning the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce building from Mad Men while heading over the the Cooper Design Space because it definitely was not what I was expecting upon entrance. A girlfriend and I attended a pop-up vintage marketplace event held at the Cooper Design Space a couple weekends ago. Even on a Sunday afternoon, there were a handful of friendly servicemen in the lobby and throughout the building greeting eager shoppers. The elevator dings at the 11th floor, doors slid open, and our eyes are greeted by a spacious floor room. Industrial ceilings with large pipes ahead, the room was white, bright, and transparent. I really liked how there were large panels of windows surrounding the room, admitting natural light into the event (and a great view of Downtown LA.) This is a great nook in LA's Fashion District, hosting various events and sample sales for all of you smart shoppers! I saw a flyer in the elevator listing all upcoming show cases and events from various designers, but can't remember the details. I love the building. We went there yesterday on the 11th floor for a ballet live performance. The building is kept quite clean and the 11th floor looks like is made for performances and probably private parties. It's a HUGE space with 20 feet high ceiling and windows from floor to ceiling all facing downtown LA. I would love to have or go to a private party there too. It's perfect. Parking on the premises too, with attendants. Recommended for sure. read more

I have found crazy bargains at these sales like organic cashmere sweaters that retail at Nordstrom for 400 dollars for 50 dollars! Not all the designers have a sale every last Friday. This building has the best collection of contemporary and fast fashion showrooms, so I like to hit their monthly (last Friday of month) sample sales. Take your time and plan it out... I like to start from the top floors and move down, unless I have a specific target. Unless you work within walking distance to the building, save your sanity and take Lyft or Uber for the sample sale. Parking can be murderous around here. P.S. Sample sales at the Cooper building beats the Cal Mart for sure! I love the set up of the building, it looks clean and the hallways are spacious. IF you're here for the sample sale - BE WARNED.. TAKE THE STAIRS! The elevators are packed packed packed! I don't even know why people bother to wait for them since you are 98% of the time disappointed when the doors FINALLY open and it's already an overstuffed car :\ Parking is a hassle - you will rarely get lucky enough to find street parking, but then again you don't want to have to rush back down for the meter. I suggest parking at one of the private lots near the Cal Mart and walk 1-2 blocks. OR sometimes the Cal Mart itself has $6 parking which isn't too bad compared to their regular rates! read more

You can find some sick sample sales deals here, as well as get some good wholesale prices if you're kookoo enough to purchase 6+ items (hey, why not...there's nothing wrong with stocking up). The even sicker thing about this set-up is that it's located smack down in the middle of LA's fashion district. Located in the heart of the downtown fashion district, The Cooper building has showrooms for tons of great designers and brands that are available in department stores near you. Granted its not really for shopping, unless they are having sample sales, its mostly where people go for wholesale business. If you work in the fashion industry, and haven't been the Cooper building whether its work related or not, its a place where alot of things happen. PS. parking is the biggest pain in the ass! If you're at all into fashion, this is your mecca. I'm in love. I went here for the first time a few months back, for a Wildfox sample sale. This particular sale was huge and had an entire ballroom-like space devoted to it. I picked up $250 gems for a clean 50 bucks and left a very happy girl. I went to another Wildfox sample sale about a week back, and this one had slim pickings, took place in their much smaller showroom, and was "meh" in terms of pricing, so my friend and I decided to explore the whole building. I'm so glad we did, because we found so many amazing brands having sample sales (One Teaspoon! For Love and Lemons! Motel Rocks!) and left with tons of stuff at great prices. Apparently, they have sample sales every last Friday of the month in all of the brands. The Motel Rocks showroom/sample sale was particularly awesome (I mean, seriously, crop tops for 5$?!) and the people were super friendly. The building in itself is sort of like a mall, but only featuring certain designers which I've never seen actual stores of (at least not in the United States). Added bonus: the Pressed Juicery in the lobby. The perfect way to end a shopping trip! read more

Came here yesterday for the Coeur tradeshow. Even though I'm not in the industry I was able to get in since I'm a USC business student, booyah! The building is eleven floors, and there is a pressed juicery downstairs, though I must admit I'm not sure if it was permanent or a special pop-up for the fashionistas. The elevators are all superr slow, to the point where you get creeped out that it might just stop working. Floors 2-10 are very generic, but the 11th floor is stunning! The space is huge and the ceilings are very high. This is where the actual tradeshow was and it was great. The best part was that Deuvo had samples of their pralines and other confectionaries and they were soo delicious. I loved meeting Sheila and Marcus (mother and son of the family business). Getting a quick review done and out of the way as I sit waiting, while my girlfriend wanders around Mink Pink's sample sale. I walked the hallways and noticed a few haute and trendy brands that some girls would drop to their knees for out of joy and excitement. During the sample sales these places open up their spaces, and it seems there are very nice clothing items at affordable prices. All I can say is, this place is a fashionistas dream come true. Came here for a Levis Sample sale. I never knew this place existed until I heard about it from the Levis sale. This specific Levis sells made and crafted clothing and I got some cute high waisted shorts for $10. They have a bunch of other stores and showrooms as well. Most of the stores seem pricey so I didn't shop around that much but I did go into Wildfox. Their original prices are expensive but I want to try and go to one if their sample sales as well that they announce on their facebook. $10 dollars to park inside the garage and the cross streets are 9th and Los Angeles. For some weird reason when we put the address on google maps it took us somewhere to an empty building around 4th and Los Angeles and we wandered around for a good 15 minutes trying to look for the place. I don't know how accurate my review will be of the this venue since I came for a special gala, not for a sample sale like everyone else wrote their reviews about. So that's why this review will be short. However, the "space" itself is fairly big, so I assume that's why it is often rented out for sales. I attended The THREADShow here, a fashion event supporting local up and coming designers that was held here on the 11th Floor. What made the shopping experience great was the large open space that housed us all. This space is breathtaking when you first enter with the sky high windows, allowing a lot of natural light to shine in. You also get a great view of downtown Los Angeles. The likes of William Rast and other high end brands in the building?! Even if you're not into fashion, you will be in awe or wish you worked in fashion. The place is inspiring. read more

Park on Olympic and Hill for $10.00 all day and only a few blocks to the sample sales at New Mart and Cooper Building. The Cooper building has NIGHTMARE elevators which take forever to come and are always crowded with strollers and gaggles of women ready to SHOP. This is the worst part for me as it is not easy to get in or out quickly. Take cash and be prepared to look over everything you buy carefully - there are no returns and remember, these are samples and not always perfect. I never buy anything that needs alterations, as as we all know they can cost more than the garment. I tried a few showrooms this month after being at the New Mart - I found most showrooms crowded and very disorganized - staff seem overwhelmed and as polite as I guess can be expected. I far prefer the New Mart for samples on the last Friday of the month - better laid out, easier to get around and the staff are nicer on the whole. read more

This review is coming from a guest point of view. My friend brought me here for Reformation's sample sale. It was a rather impressive building with lots of space and clean walls. The only thing I don't get is why people choose to eat their lunches inside while people are trying on clothes. Anyway, my experience here was mixed. Sample sales typically on the last Thursday and Friday of the month. I've noticed some brands holding sample sales on the 2nd to last week as well. Their FB page usually posts the lists of brands participating. The whole building has over 10 floors. As other reviewers said, take the stairs to avoid long elevator wait times. Also be prepared with coins for parking and to spend at least 1-2 hours there. I like to wear clothing that I can easily change in and out of (or clothing that makes it easy to put clothes on top of). I also found it really helpful to bring a friend to help me decide... so that I'm not swayed by the sample prices read more

This open, airy spot is great for hosting events, and I came here for the Freedom & Fashion show over the weekend. The venue was easy to get to, although the underground parking seemed to fill up rather quickly, leaving later attendees to figure out an alternate parking situation. The $10 valet seemed like an okay price tag for parking in Downtown. The building itself seems to be well-staffed, and the layout is really an open design -- I can see from the reviews that this place hosts sample sales and trunk shows, which it's perfect for. Just a few minutes off the freeway, with a great panoramic view of Downtown from the 11th floor penthouse, makes this an awesome venue. read more

If you haven't been, you need to go to the sample sales held the last Friday of every month. This is when various designers open their showrooms to the public to sell samples and or overstock. My favorite is halston heritage because the staff is so pleasant you think you are in a retail boutique. But the prices are to die for. read more

I recently found out about this place through wildfox. The last friday of each month they have sample sales which is CASH ONLY. Park at a nearby $5 lot and get there early! The line will be long. That being said...the wait it not as long, they do keep the line moving at a decent speed and are continuously restocking the sale...i got 3 Baggy Beach Jumpers for $150!! Score!! I will be back every month to satisfy my shopping addiction!! read more

Fashion heaven at affordable prices. I went here for the Wildfox Couture sample sale and while walking up the flight of stairs, there were such great places to shop around and the prices were unbelievable.
