Is this real life? I've always been a fan of Dries' aesthetic, ethnic patterns, flowy to boxy silhouettes, a nod to classic masculine colors but never afraid of embracing traditionally feminine pattern and materials, and unexpected risks. So when I found out that they were opening in the former OC spot (which is the former dance studio of Charlie Chaplin), I was stoked. I finally made it out on a Saturday. The store has been completely gone over and is a real treat to behold. Some highlights include a darkened room for gowns -- to see what evening wear actually looks like in subdued light -- a metallic gold painted room for jewelry, an 'apartment room' with super cool furniture, and plenty of space for slow shoppers to leisurely browse. I caught an amazing double-breasted tuxedo upstairs in men's. While I already have a custom Band of Outsiders tux that I absolutely adore, let's just say it's been on my mind. Both men's and women's section feature an archive dating back to the 90s (yes, for sale!) hand-picked by Dries himself, and there is a fantastic vintage DJ / audio system / vinyl shop designed by none other than Mohawk General Store Creative Director Kevin Carney. Guest vinyl curators has thus far included Devendra Banhart and Deewee and the selection, while small, is wonderful. A gallery has been set up in the former OC shoe space which opens onto the parking lot, curated by Manierai from Brussels (België vertegenwoordigen!). The exhibit as I saw it was stunning layered rugs / tapestries by textile designer / former Dries creative collaborator Christoph Hefti...bold and beautiful. And finally, I was happy to see former Opening Ceremony employees Alex and Tina working the store. The vibe overall is chill, creative and absolutely unpretentious. High Fashion done LA style. For the fashion heads, style freak, those passionate about aesthetics and sophisticated design, and people just wanting to see something fresh and new, Dries Van Noten LA is unmissable.

Amazing selection. The boutique carries archival pieces, show pieces, and wholesale pieces. First floor is women and second floor is men. Someone on the first floor helped me with a necklace I was considering until I realized it would not close on me. Second floor I was left to browse on my own.

    From the archives.

I've become a semi-regular here because this is not just a store but it is an EXPERIENCE. Dries Van Noten is one of my favorite designers hands-down. But this store just puts that over the top. It's gorgeous... each room is full of delight and something special... whether it is clothes, art, jewelry, music, sculpture, furniture.... it is all just delightful. You won't want to leave! The archival rooms are just astonishing! Both the women's and men's. And yes, these items are for sale, as well, which was a pleasant surprise. While the store overall is just fantastic, my favorite part? The staff! Jenny, Alberto, John, Maria, Michael, Alex.... all of them are just fantastic. We've shared laughs and great convos every time I've come in. If you need a pick-me-up and something gorgeous to buy, go to Dries Van Noten L.A. Truly wonderful in every way.

Their prices are quite reasonable. Many items are up to 80% off what you would pay for great clothes and bags. They also have some nice art now and again it is all fairly priced. This is not a Salvation Army type store, yes, all items are used, but all are designer or something you may have seen in a store. They do not have a huge vintage section and that is fine. It has just really nice things that I would end up paying a lot more for new. The service is great. The staff is nice and knows what is in the store and where. If you are looking for a nice bag, they have it or some nice clothes. I have bought a few things there and I have never been disappointed.

They took my phone number and said they would call when they found the match. I gave them my number and about a week later, they called and had found the match. I returned and bought it. Yesterday, we went there and bought a few things. Super cute stuff and fun to shop. My daughter found new Stan Smith Adidas. They couldn't sell them because they lost the key to unlock the block thing that the alarm goes off if cut. Again, I gave my number and today, they called and found the key. Went back and got the adidas.

The RealReal on West Melrose is a very cool spot for luxury shopping. The store has a wide variety…read moreof high end items, mostly on the expensive side, with a huge selection of bags, think entire walls lined with Birkin bags. They used to have separate stores for men and women, not sure if that's still a thing but it made it easier to browse depending on your style preferences. I've sold here plenty of times, and the commission is fair for what you're getting. The shopping experience is smooth, and the store offers a great mix of authentic, pre owned designer pieces. If you're into luxury consignment, it's worth a visit.

I have been both a buyer and a consignor with The RealReal for years, which makes this review…read moreparticularly disappointing to write. Most recently, I received an Officine Générale turtleneck that had been described as being in "Very Good" condition. It arrived with significant pilling, appeared dirty, and smelled strongly of cheap women's perfume. It was not remotely consistent with the condition advertised. What happened next was even more troubling. I contacted Customer Service expecting a straightforward acknowledgment and resolution. Instead, I received responses that repeatedly failed to address the actual issue being raised. The conversation devolved into a discussion about whether I would accept compensation based on the purchase price of the item, despite my making it abundantly clear that I had no interest in keeping it at any price. The concern was misrepresentation and quality control. I cannot recall another customer service interaction that felt this tone deaf. As someone who has worked with major organizations, including Apple and Spectrum, on matters involving customer experience and communication, I can honestly say I will use this exchange as an example of exactly what not to do. Customers understand that mistakes happen. What they do not forget is being ignored when they clearly articulate a legitimate concern. My concerns extend beyond this single transaction. As a consignor, I have increasingly questioned whether the standards applied to sellers are consistent or fair. A pair of Tod's loafers yielded a net payout to me of just $9.72. A brand-new pair of Theory shoes, still in the box with tags and obviously never worn, was graded only as "Good" condition and generated a payout of $7.00. The RealReal positions itself as a luxury marketplace. Luxury is not just a logo or a price point. It is attention to detail, thoughtful service, accurate representation, and respect for both buyers and consignors. Unfortunately, this experience failed on every one of those measures. Mistakes happen. Indifference should not.

Does Flirt Clothing live up to its name?…read more If you're expecting an inanimate building to ask your name and number, then no. And if you're expecting the employees to ask you "come here often?" before motioning the barkeep to bring you another of whatever you're having, then still, NO. Or maybe yes. Just not with me. Pffft. The clothes are definitely fun and flirty, though -- if you wear them. Flirt is the typical Melrose kitsch store -- one-offs and private labels abound. Not too many jean choices (mostly charcoal gray), and not that many T-shirts, but the ones they have will have you going gaga, lady. What's a boy like me doing reviewing an exclusively girl's store? Well, I have no intention of wearing that off-the-shoulder blouse or sundress (hmm... with the right belt and handbag, I -- nevermind), but the store is definitely a pleasant place, even if you're just waiting on girls to finish trying things on. You can stand there awkwardly listening to the early 1990s era boombox that's pumping out KISS FM all day (Lil Wayne seems determined to make me his fan), or check yourself out in the mirrors on the wall. "Oh you are quite the looker, aren't you..." Anyway, speaking of incredible, psychologically unhealthy narcissism (or not, whatever), the pink-curtained dressing rooms have matching pink folding chairs -- everything in the store has either touches or tons of pink, which sounds like a Hello Kitty nightmare but is actually kind of cute in a flamingo-pecked-my-eyes-out way. When you try things on, it's with a soft background of Pepto Bismo, but it does make that hotgasmic pair of koolats stand out in palatial, plaid glory. Sweet Heavens, but you're beautiful. Now close your curtain -- that weird tattoo guy with his tattooier girlfriend can see your thong. Hey, the stuff you're trying on is on sale, too! At least a fourth of the store is half off, so you'll have more money left over to blow on things like shoes, handbags, and rent. Service is fast, friendly, and helpful -- they'll make useful suggestions that aren't lame attempts at plus-selling. Flirt Clothing does lose one star because they forgot to remove a security tag on a $240 hobo bag. Now I'm going to have to come back tomorrow -- with receipt -- to have them remove it because SOMEBODY'S too busy (*cough* gainfully employed) to do so herself. I'm going to play like it's mine. It looks cuter on me anyway :-)

This is a nice store that carries clothing and accessories that you probably won't find at most…read moreother clothing shops on Melrose Ave. Most of the stores on this street tend to carry the same type of clothing. I bought a beautiful purple scarf with brown leopard spots on it the other day. The material was like that of a soft sweater. It was only $19.00. I could've gotten a better deal on it if I bargained with the lady there, but I didn't since the price was already low. Also, she was nice and showed me how to tie it since I wasn't sure how to wear it. I always leave scarves untied up until now. She showed me and it was easier than it I thought it would be. I really appreciated that. Also, it was great that she could actually break a $100.00 bill. Some places can't. If you're not familair with the area, you might not know that due to lots of competition, sometimes the shop owner or manager will give you a discount on clothes and other items if you ask them for one. Sometimes they are so eager to sell, they just offer you a good deal. I didn't want to appear cheap though, so I didn't bother asking. It was also nice that she didn't bug me or follow me around like a lot of the shop employees tend to do sometimes. This is a great place and I'll come back here next time I'm in LA.
