Last month, I made a second purchase from Cooper Piano. The first purchase was an electronic piano that I bought in 2004 that lasted some ten odd years. This time I bought an acoustic console and it is absolutely wonderful. Kyle worked with me on a spinet trade-in. He had another customer come in who was purchasing a baby grand but he did not leave my side (although my purchase was many thousands less than hers. Cooper Piano sent Michael out to inspect our piano - a Wurlitzer from the 60's - and found it in excellent shape....said it would last at least another generation. What a wonderful experience here. I bought a piano bench that turned out wasn't exactly what my husband wanted. I couldn't find the receipt and was very concerned it would be a problem when I went in to return it. Turns out there was no problem at all. I was offered a refund but instead they found exactly what I wanted and gave me an even exchange, even though I am sure the new item was worth more. While this store has a nice selection of pianos the salesmen are stuffy, car salesmanlike, high pressure, get over on grandma/soccer mom slicksters. Extremely overpriced, and unwilling to negotiate I find this place a terrible deal compared to the local Indy competition. Do your research and you will find much better deals are available nearby. I would advise you to avoid this trap at all costs if you want a good deal on a piano. read more

Alright, so similar to my Global Imports BMW review, this one may seem a bit high brow for some, but Cooper Music Superstore deserves your business when you're in the market for a piano. Geoff and I are in the process of building a house in town and we both grew up taking piano lessons and playing for a significant portion of our formative years. We both agreed that we wanted to have a grand piano in our new home. We also agreed not to buy anything for the new house until it was built, but yeah, we haven't done very well in that respect. Some art, rugs, and now a grand piano! We started our Saturday errands this past weekend with both the Steinway Gallery and Cooper Music Superstore on our 'to do' list. We planned to start at the Steinway Gallery first and check out the Essex line of grand pianos. We parked at Cooper and walked down - there was a sign on the door "Be back in 10 minutes. -Management"...too bad, so sad - we went back to Cooper and met with Kyle Smith. Geoff had spoken with Kyle previously on the phone when we started looking into purchasing a piano. He immediately made the connection and welcomed us both into the store. On Saturday, Kyle and Steve were working and both had an incredible knowledge of the instruments on the sales floor. Kyle very clearly explained the difference between 'rent to own' and purchasing scenarios - and since our house is not yet finished, we were able to reserve the piano we wanted from the sales floor. It will be going into storage next week until we are ready to take delivery. I was extremely impressed with the range of options available and the very reasonable asking prices for this luxury item - going into the process, I thought it would be cost prohibitive for us to have such a beautiful instrument in our home, but I was pleasantly surprised. Kyle and Steve made the process very easy and enjoyable - I highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a grand (or other) piano. ***After writing this review, the owner Blake and a customer service person John immediately contacted me to remedy the situation. I was offered a full refund (that I declined), but I now feel like Cooper Piano is the kind of place that wants to get it right. If you are unhappy with Cooper's performance, just let them know and they will try to fix it.*** I hired Cooper Piano to tune my husband's upright piano and thought the pricing was reasonable ($125). Within about five minutes of arrival, the piano tuner recognized that the piano was broken and could not easily be tuned. However, his service manager, Larry, still charged me the full amount of the tuning because of the time spent during the assessment (~10 minutes total). I was willing to pay a service fee for the tuner's visit and travel time, but I was shocked that a ten minute assessment was the same price as a 90 minute tuning session. I felt like these fees were not transparent going in to the transaction and I felt like Larry could have been more flexible in this situation. Larry's compromise was that my $125 could go toward a future piano repair (which could end up be thousands of dollars). However, the shining light of my Cooper Piano experience was the piano tuner, Manny. Manny was friendly, knowledgeable, and sympathetic. Despite having a broken piano, he felt compelled to tune the keys that were not damaged since I was forced to pay the entire $125 tuning fee. This consolation prize made me feel much better about the entire experience. I would love to do work with Manny again in the future and Cooper Piano should hang on to him for his top-notch customer service and skill. read more

I wish we had bought our pianos from them! We've attended recitals there over the years and have always enjoyed their hospitality and professionalism. This was nerve-wracking - as musicians we are incredibly protective of our instruments and as home owners we were worried about damage to the new floors in our new house. Admittedly, I own an old piano that presents some special problems, but I recently had it tuned by a Cooper technician and within a week it had developed annoying sounds that had never been present before. Also, while initially in good tune, it has not retained it for more than a few weeks. Again, this has not been a problem with previous tuners. It felt to me that the tuner was extremely interested in learning the skill level of the people using the piano to the point that I could not help wondering if he was adjusting his work to fit his perceptions. I think my biggest mistake was in informing him that I was considering having some repairs done on the piano by Cooper. He seemed more interested in when that would occur than in completing the job at hand. Now I need to find a technician who can eliminate the annoying new sounds and hopefully recommend someone else to do the repairs. read more
