Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant is always a solid dinner choice for me, but only recently did I try their brunch! The salted caramel donuts and the Cooper's Hawk steak and eggs were some of the best items I've had from there. Let's start with the salted caramel donuts because...wow. They come out warm, soft, and perfectly golden with just the right amount of sweetness. The outside has that light crisp, the inside is fluffy, and paired with the salted caramel flavor, they're dangerously easy to keep reaching for. Definitely a must-order for the table. The Cooper's Hawk steak and eggs were just as impressive. The steak was cooked exactly how I wanted, tender, flavorful, and not overdone. The eggs were perfectly done, and the potatoes were crispy on the outside but soft inside, which really pulled the whole dish together. It's one of those meals that feels indulgent but still balanced enough for brunch. Between the cozy atmosphere, great service, and food that actually delivers, this is one of those spots I'll keep coming back to--especially for those donuts alone. read more

My wife and I had an enjoyable lunch at CH. Things started off a little rough with a cocktail missing rim seasoning and no silverware or plates. However, our server recovered and turned it around. Thanks Kirstin. Later she advised on a promotion of upgrading our 1 bottle membership to 2 bottle membership for some promotional bonuses (ask your server before 6/23). Thank you! It was a little warm today but was nice to sit outside in the covered area. Not the greatest of outdoor seating but it was a little cool inside. I ordered the Blackened Bleu Skirt Steak Salad and tasted great. The steak was seasoned well, cooked to perfection and the dressing was perfect amount. However the steak quality was a little less stellar, as it was pretty chewy but then again it was skirt steak. My wife ordered from the lunch specials and had cilantro lime chicken salad, which she really liked. She is picky about her salads and was one that I'm thinking she will have again. I have been here several times. A main attraction is the selection of wine. The service is always perfect. I have had the prime rib sandwich several times, which is always good. First time at Cooper's Hawk in Algonquin. This restaurant is fairly new and looks really nice & clean on the inside. We were seated right away on a Monday night. I'm not a wine drinker but I think wine lovers would love it here. There is a wine section in the front with different types of wines you can buy and info about each one. The restaurant seemed to focus on wines and suggested menu pairings. Service was good. I ordered gnocchi with roasted butternut squash and my wife ordered sweet corn and tomato risotto. The portion size was moderate as well as the price at $23.99 and $22.99 for the latter. The gnocchi was perfectly seasoned and brought on some well pronounced flavors. The savory gnocchi, cream, and feta cheese maintained a delicate balance to the slightly sweet butternut squash. The risotto tasted great as well, but was slightly undercooked. They also let us sample some moscato which was a nice touch. CH turned out better than I expected it to be and I would return at some point on the future although there are few vegetarian options. read more

We have dined at 2 Coopers' in Oak Lawn and Oak Park, but we have family that lives near Algonquin, so we took a trip and gathered there for Valentine's Day lunch. We arrived on time and were offered the chance to sit but decided to wait til our party arrived. The lobby and tasting room are about the same, but seemed smaller than the other locations. When our party arrived we sat at a nice round table. Gianna our waitress came and greeted us with good humor, jokes, and graciousness! I got the sparkling flight since it was V-Day, and we shared the Brussel sprouts and lettuce wraps as appetizers. It was busy and full but not packed at 2:30pm. I ordered the lunch portion of the pork chop with mashed potatoes and broccoli and of COURSE the pretzel bread! We took some home as well. I enjoyed the flight but was hoping to have it with my entree. It took a while for us to be asked for our entrees, and I was just about out of my flight, so I ordered another glass of wine (not sure which one) to go with lunch. The special dessert was a coffee flavored brownie with pistachio gelato. We were given multiple spoons and a huge portion and it was SO good! We came here for a birthday party and Joel & crew in the back private room were amazing. The food was delicious as usual and was served fresh and hot. I really enjoyed the fries that came with the cheeseburger. For the kids, the entreés were served buffet style, so that made for easy access for the parents and quick eating for the kids. As far as price goes, I don't know what it cost for the private room and menu. I do know, from eating in the dining room that you should expect to spent $20-$40 for an entree and a dinner for two with drinks and tip will run you $150 min. If you're a food connoisseur and you want something a step up from a Chili's, you can get that here. Add some wine and you're good to go. Though it's a little overpriced for the food, the food is prepared well and has the flavors. I think that the prices reflect the high-quality service and the ambience. If you're looking for a bite, but don't really care... I'd skip this place and hit up one of the other sit-down restaurants across and/or down the street. Your dollar will go longer. Last thought - This is a great place to celebrate a special milestone or get your wine fix. I hope to be back soon. read more

My first Cooper's Hawk experience--talk about sensory overload! I went on a Friday night and the place was packed and loud. The parking lot was full and I had to park the equivalent of two blocks away. A table wasn't ready even though we had a reservation, but after only a little waiting we were able to snag bars seats and have up the reservation. (I've heard of others having to wait 45 minutes past their reservation time). I had a burger and it was tasty. The bartender who took our order was friendly. I would go back, but probably not on a weekend. I don't drink wine, and while the food was good, it didn't stand out enough to make having to wait in an extremely loud crowd worth it. read more

CH Wine O'Clock Review! This is my second time visiting a Coopers Hawk for the happy hour specials. It seems the menu has been paired down quite a bit but items on this menu are special offerings that aren't found on the standard menu. We sampled both the Blending Session wines which seem to rotate monthly. The white was a bit sweet for my preference so we decided to split the Vin Velouté. For food, we started with the Four Cheese Truffle Arancini & Burrata Bruschetta off the HH menu. They were a good shareable portion for two people! We also tried the Roasted Vegetable & Goat Cheese Flatbread which was delicious! The restaurant itself is newer and beautifully designed. We recently came here with family visiting from out of town. It was their first time at Cooper's, and we were excited to bring them. We were seated within 5-7 minutes of walking in, which we appreciated. However, we weren't thrilled with the table we were initially assigned. It was directly underneath a speaker, and the music was extremely loud. We wouldn't have been able to have a conversation and catch up with our family. The table was also located near the bathroom and kitchen, so there was quite a bit of commotion. We immediately asked the host if it would be possible to move to a different table. She appeared visibly annoyed. She looked around, grabbed the menus without saying a word, and walked us to another table. She placed the menus down and again didn't say anything--no smile, no eye contact, and no acknowledgment. We didn't catch her name, but she had a tattoo behind her ear for reference. We were surprised that asking for a different table seemed to cause frustration. That said, the rest of the waitstaff was amazing--very professional, attentive, and polite. They should really bring back the alcohol free wine, it's just a nice tradition for people who can't drink. I think it's insane they only have 3 bathroom stalls for the size of this place. We love CH for special occassions and bringing the family in. We came this month on Sunday and had Kristin K. as our waitress. She was great with our kids, friendly and most of all very knowledgeable. knew every answer quickly and gave us in depth knowledge about menu and recommended great wine pairings. Obviously Im probably an outlier with this review but I also feel its more than generous based on the food only. Restaurant is fairly large, clean, and has a nice ambience. Service is okay (what you would expect) but they drop the ball on food. I was expecting a decent meal - something a tad more upscale than Applebees but unfortunately Applebees is what we got. No offense to Applebee fans but the food at Coopers Hawk is basically no different. Crappy plating, very measured (ie..the ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes and exactly 2 ounces of sausage added to pasta - per waitress). The wedge salad looked as if it was made in haste by a 10 yr old and the dressing was watery and gross. We went for a birthday meal - all 3 entrees felt like pre-made garbage - Churrasco Steak, Gnocci Alla Vodka, and Soy Ginger Salmon. If they actually have a Chef they need to move on to someone else. This is basically line-cook food from Sysco. On the plus side the Calamari appetizer was tasty albeit slightly overcooked. Coopers is obviously a draw for the wine bar - maybe they hope you drink enough so anything tastes good. I cannot comprehend all the 4/5 star reviews but to each his own. $240 bill for 3 with 2 glasses of wine is a bit rich for the food quality. A night at Cooper's Hawk is guaranteed to be a fun one! Sue provides a wonderful wine tasting experience and the rest of the staff is always friendly as well. Must try cocktail includes the Bin 61 sour, even if you are not a whiskey drinker. Another pro tip to take advantage of is the complimentary wine tasting at the table for the wine of the month or barrel reserve. Food choices from the evening included the burger, chicken sandwich and life balanced BBQ chicken salad. All were great. This was our first time at Coopers Hawk. We walked in and were blown away by the wine tasting bar right inside the door. it was packed and looked like everyone there was having a great time. We didn't have to wait long to get seated. The restaurant was very classy. Our waitress Nadia arrived just after we were seated. Nadia was great. Very nice and pleasant. She welcomed us and started to tell us about the wine choices and menu items. When our dinner was served, she came around several times making sure we were all good. The manager even stopped by to see how everything was. For dinner I had the Blackened Ahi Tuna. This was seared rare and was done perfectly. It tasted great. It came with a side of Cilantro Citrus Rice and an Asian Slaw. It was very tasty. It was also served with a Wasabi Sauce. You need wasabi with your tuna. My wife had the Gnocchi with Roasted Butternut Squash. She loved it. We're not big wine drinkers but we did have a glass of their Red Sangria. It was really good. We're looking forward to coming back again to try other dishes. Walking in and out, seeing what other diners were eating, everything looked wonderful. Additionally, my mom complimented their gluten-free alternative to the pretzel bread and they let her take home two loaves free of charge. Girls night dinner brought us to Cooper's Hawk on a Tuesday at 5:35. I made the reservation using Open Table. We didn't have any issues with anyone at the hostess stand. We were seated immediately. I do not drink alcohol and if I did, I probably would not be a wine drinker, however, three of the four of us shared a bottle of wine (actually, they didn't finish it so the waiter did something to it so they could take the bottle with them)... they said the wine was delicious. I ordered a ginger ale; it was probably the best ginger ale I've ever had! I need to know if they make it in-house or what brand it is. It was so good. I ordered the soup and salad. The soup was lobster bisque and it was delicious. The salad was very good, as well. The dressing was delish! I did not finish it all; it was the perfect lunch the next day. Our kids had forewarned us that there is some sort of wine club here and that they would try to do a hard sell on it as my kids told us they joined. Well - only one of us ordered a glass of wine and the wine club was never mentioned. I found out more on their website than I did from the hostess or server. They probably would have gotten a sale out me if they had explained or mentioned it. Anyways, we came for dinner so I'll mention that... We split a Caesar salad as an appetizer and had the Salmon and Crusted Mahi as our main courses. Both fish dishes were very good. Healthy too. Unfortunately, we ate it all so no leftovers for lunch the next day! Since it was my birthday, they gave me free truffles - one dark chocolate and the other was white chocolate. This was my first time coming to Cooper's hawk and i have to say it did not hit my expectations. The service felt like it didn't hit the mark. It was not busy and though my reservation was for an inside table for a business meeting. The host tried seating us in the bar even after me asking for quiet spot in the dinning room. The tips of the lettuce were brown in areas and slathered in dressing. i I had the seared tuna and it was decent but the wasabi dip was not good along with the cabbage on top of some white rice. My expectations were high and the food didn't meet the mark as the tuna was overcooked to top things off. The server wasn't able to explain the dish's i had questions on. While we were in the middle of eating our dinner the server came to our table and placed a menu on the table and never explained what she left. Then she said that's for when you are ready for dessert. It was very odd and the timing was just off while we were in the middle of our dinner I wouldn't recommend Cooper's hawk. We came here for a date night dinner on a Saturday, and we're so glad we reserved in advance since it was super busy! The restaurant has plenty of parking outside the restaurant. When you enter, you see their tasting bar and a small shop with wines along a wall and tables of items to buy such as candles, wine glasses, or dishes. If you're dining at the restaurant, go to the host table on the left. If you're waiting for a table, they have free samples of one of their wines in a barrel. The inside is nicely decorated and they have two large areas for dining in and a few smaller areas in the back. Looks like in warmer weather they will have an outdoor enclosed patio dining area. We sat at one of the booths along the wall. Although the inside was loud and busy, my husband and I could still easily hear each other. The wait staff was friendly and our drinks and food came out quickly. We opted to share their Bubbly wine flight and had an appetizer of the Brussel sprouts which were crispy and tasty especially with the sauces added on top. For entrees we got the Pretzel Crusted Pork Chops and Gnocchi with Roasted Butternut Squash. We thought both entrees were outstanding - and great portion sizes that we both took home leftovers (which the wait staff wraps for you). Cooper's Hawk recently opened up in Algonquin. I ended up going there twice to see how it was. Here is my review: Ambiance It is nice and clean. Upon walking in, there is a shop, which sells chocolate, wine, and wine accessories. The tables seem well-spaced. The sound level is not bad. Though busy, you don't really hear other conversations. Service I would say the service has been really good on both occasions. Both servers did not hover around the table. The team itself, greeted us, as we walked by them. The food came out at a decent pace. Each server also made sure to check our glasses to see if we needed any refills. Food Grilled Cheese with short rib and tomato soup The tomato soup was your standard tomato soup. The grilled cheese was a bit messy but good. The short rib was juicy and there was a good amount of meat in the sandwich. Jambalaya I did not mind the jambalaya. The texture of the rice was good and they had a decent amount of meat/seafood. There seemed to be an odd aftertaste though. Southwestern eggroll The eggrolls were crispy and flavorful. It was paired with 3 different sauces which complimented the egg rolls nicely. Pretzel-encrusted pork chop The pork chop was nicely cooked. It was juicy and flavorful. My issue with it is the pretzel crust. Personally, I would use some sort of panko or regular bread crust for a bit of a different texture contrast. The pretzel did not really work for me. The Prime The sandwich is a very juicy sandwich. It has a lot of meat and comes with a side of horseradish and extra ju. If you don't mind a sloppy mess, this sandwich is very good and I would recommend it. Drunken shrimp Kind of pricy, but the taste was pretty good. The shrimp was bacon-wrapped and sat on top of some guacamole. It had a nice citrus sauce with it. Sweet Chili calamari The batter seemed harder than most fried calamari I have eaten. It is dipped in a sweet chili sauce so, I can understand that they did not want to have it go soggy. It had a nice flavor but came with a sesame sriracha aioli, which I am not sure did anything for it since it was already slathered in sweet chili sauce. S'more Budino This dessert is sweet upon sweet. It was good but I got tired of eating it. There is a layer of caramel and a thick layer of marshmallow. Along with a layer of chocolate pudding, my taste buds were taxed. Overall The service was really good. The food is good but kind of pricey. I think there were some misfires with the food itself but there is a pretty good amount of choices you can pick from. I don't really drink so, unfortunately, I don't really have any opinions on the wine itself. I wouldn't mind recommending Cooper's Hawk, but I think some of the food needs to be reworked. read more

Hubby & I went here for lunch on Thursday, 2/13, to avoid the Valentine's Day crowd & it was a great experience! Our server was outstanding! We started with an espresso martini to share, which she volunteered to split into 2 glasses. The meatball appetizer was next...I was almost like lasagna without the noodles, delicious! This was our first time at the Algonquin location having ate at the Arlington Heights Coopers Hawk in the past. I always feel terrible leaving a poor review like this because I assume the staff is doing the best they can, but it was very disappointing. First, our server Erica was awesome. She was willing to make recommendations, was positive, and was welcoming. It was our anniversary and she gave us truffles, which was nice given the situation at that point. The Malbec was also very good, we are big fans of the wine club and always enjoy pairing. Unfortunately, that leaves dinner. I was craving a cheeseburger and decided to go with the standard one with fries. I ordered medium rare and asked for BBQ sauce instead of mayo. They were accommodating, which I appreciated. When the burger came, I cut it in half and noticed immediately that it was well done. The meat was dried out and looked very small given the price. I also noticed mayo, which I asked to substitute for, but figured I would still give it a try. It was awful. Chewing into the burger was rough and it tasted like a frozen patty that had been microwaved like you'd get at McDonalds. The cheddar was so over cooked that it left a horrible aftertaste. After about three bites, I couldn't take it anymore. To add to it, the fries were also awful. They were cold, tasteless, and rubbery, almost like they were also frozen. I've not had issues like this at the other location, so this could be a one time thing. While the server was apologetic and took the burger off the bill, no one from the management or the chef said anything. read more

Sangrias were great I recommend the original as the raspberry (left) was too sweet for my liking. Service was a bit slow as they were training but there were only maybe 3 tables so not sure.
