My family comes here for lunch often now, so it's time to update my review. This place officially has the best wraps. The chicken bacon ranch wrap and the Caesar salad wrap are very good. Them all paired up with a cold beer and I'm a happy guy. Service is always good here, the people are great. They have a loyalty program that gives you points for dollars spent, I recommend getting it as it will help offset the stupid "technology fee" they tack on for using cards to pay. read more

Best cheese curds ever!!! This restaurant/bar is just off the beating path of Randall Road shopping stores. We were out shopping and needed to refuel. What we ordered: * cheese curds- delicious * Cheesebuger with all the fixings-and fries * Hangover Buger The burgers were cooked perfectly to our liking, and flavorful. The French fries were crispy and yummy! Our server, Ashley was personable, friendly, prompt and on the ball with service. We didn't need to ask for refills, she brought them as she saw our drinks were getting low. read more

2nd time being at this bar and went to have dinner with a friend. Local alcoholic "John" that everyone knew by name was extremely hammered and started throwing food, telling us to go outside and fight with him as well as his younger friend in his 20's. We did not initiate anything and just sat near him. We did not talk to him or anyone else at the bar and it took over 15 minutes for him to be kicked out. Once he was kicked out he got in his car and drove home. He was given way too much to drink and the workers should have not let him drive. Pizza took over 45 minutes to be ready as well. To be sure, this is a sports bar with bar food. But the bar food we had was very good! We had bacon wrapped dates because we've enjoyed them in the past at fancier places and these did not disappoint. I had a grilled Nashville chicken sandwich and it was thoughtfully prepared. The sauces and accessories on it were crispy and creamy and the flavors worked great together. Sweet potatoes fries were hot as they are supposed to be. Hubs enjoyed his huge serving of poutine and has something left over for breakfast tomorrow. The menu truly has something for everyone! Summer was working the bar when we came in - about a dozen patrons late on Sunday afternoon. She readily acknowledged us and her service was fast and friendly. We enjoyed our experience. This is a nice neighborhood bar in a strip mall. Plenty of parking and nice open seating layout. They offer typical bar fare as well as some unique appetizers. Nice selection of beers and liquors. Just visited the Iron Horse. Asked for a beer menu and they do not have one. Waitress had to ask the bartender which beers they had and then after we ordered the beer keg was broken. Ordered food off the menu and the food did not come out with what the menu described. Asked for silverware and they said can't you see we are busy! Waited another 15 mins asked for silverwar again and lost my shit. Finally some came to the table after 20 mins with silverware and the owner showed up at the table. He said are you giving me attitude and got very defensive and was so unprofessional. The table next to us was shocked. The owner does not even know what his menu has on it! I had to come by here & put a dent into this place's prior customers 4 & 5 ratings to state clearly that the prices are a complete ripoff & they'll surcharge you for paying by credit card for a bill over $10. Each draft beer or hard seltzer water will sting at $7+ per unit & all of their specials posted were ignored & not honored. I can't stand local establishments that do this to customers, especially during tough economic times due the Biden/Harris administration. When Trump/Vance become leaders of our country, I hope these sorts of places go out of business for all the patrons they've screwed up to 9/14/24 & let this serve as a warning to all future people considering this place, you're just not going to get your money's worth. read more

Finally came inside after talking about coming here for months. Came on the Saturday before Christmas and it was not busy at all. Three areas to sit. Choose your own seating: the bar; tall tables; regular tables/booths. The quieter area is the later. At least ten large screen TVs throughout the restaurant for your sports and news. We started off with an appetizer of cheese curds. BEST cheese curds I've ever eaten! They were so delicious we could have ordered one appetizer each. Hubby ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with fries. Very spicy and good. Revolution Anti Hero is a great session IPA. I ordered the Philly cheese steak with fries. Their fries are very good. Their Philly was served on large dry hoagie buns. Not the best but edible. Loved the Christmassy red and green peppers. Sam Adams Winter lagger has great flavor. I'll give it three stars, there are places Cary I like more but it isn't a bad spot. Plenty of room, TVs everywhere, and good food. We had their cheese curds as an appetizer and they are excellent; seriously, the best cheese curds I have had. I got their buffalo chicken wrap, spicy, and I need to warn you this is truly spicy. Many places say spicy and it is just "warm" but theirs is really spicy. I still enjoyed my meal but I would get their less spicy version next time. Beer selection was great, I got a Revolution Every Day Hero and loved it. They have specials for game days and I would certainly return for one of those days to try it again. read more

The service was just Ok at best. They charge for every little thing. A 1 ounce little plastic container of BBQ sauce is .75. The worst is when you pay they do not state ahead of time that there is a 4% credit card fee. Customers need to be made aware of that before paying. Been awhile but staff is cold and uninviting, don't expect great service unless you're a friend of the bartenders sitting in the back corner. Some of the unseasoned or rehired staff definitely should find a job where they don't have to serve customers, bartending clearly isn't for them. This has always been one of many places we return too. They were really busy which was good for them as we have never seen so many tables filled here before. We had a non drinker at our table that drinks their coke in 3 quick swigs. The $3 coke was in a tall thin glass with lots of ice. Our waitress was great in filling it but how about putting it in a big beer glass instead - save your steps! The nachos are just okay. Street tacos are no longer on the menu so a couple of us got the single tacos. What was weird is they put all the tacos on one plate so we had to pull each of ours off to eat. What was awful was the Nashville Chicken sandwich. You would think that it would be great but not the case. It was raw. Luckily, we sliced it in half before taking a bite (note to self, ALWAYS cut my sandwich in half before trying!) and discovered that it was raw. YUCK. I've lived down the street from this place for a while now and decided to give it a try tonight, along with my wife, my 13 year old son and 2 year old son. Standard sport ish bar with tv's everywhere and different sports playing on each tv. When we were sat at the table I noticed that there are outlets near each table with USB ports so if you happen to have a charger, you are able to charge your phone (which is nice since it's a bar, and you might get a little drunk while you're there) it's nice to know your phone will have battery when you inevitably have to make a call to your wife/just and/friend to come pick your stumbling self home. On to the food and service- We started off with appetizers which were fried pickles and loaded nachos. The fried pickles were as described, fried pickles, they were deep fried nicely and had a nice crunch. Although my wife said there was, and I quote "not enough pickle". The loaded nachos were pretty damn good, both my sons were liking them and I was too. They dress it up very nicely, good presentation and not what I was expecting, kudos for giving us good food and having something to look at also, there was care put into those nachos. I also felt like they dressed it up so we didn't notice the measly 3 pieces of steak that was in there. But they were good anyways, and we are enjoyed them. Last but not least, the main courses My wife ordered the fish fry, I had ordered the three pigs sandwich (3 different type of porks on a pretzel bun) my youngest got the kids chicken tenders with fries and my oldest got the chicken Caesar wrap. The three pigs (can't remember the exact name, that might be it) was a good bbq sandwich with a pretzel bun. Nothing super special, but it made me happy and tasted alright. (Sorta into pretzel buns now lol.) Both the fish and chicken tenders were very, VERY deep fried.... And when I say VERY I mean that the fish and chicken was almost black. The chicken tenders were good, BUT should be deep fried a little less. You leaving that stuff in there too long dude, the fish was more black than golden. The fish inside was still good, and we really didn't want to complain about it because we thought it was "good enough". We were enjoying ourselves but the main courses really killed the vibe but we still enjoyed the food, it was just more of a miss than a bullseye. So at the end we are stuffed, with the good time Feeling hanging by a thread. If you are still reading this, congrats, because I've been writing this for the past hour while watching the new season of stranger things. At the end of the meal.... We receive the check and our minds are blown when we found out that we were charged 50 cents per dipping sauce my 2 year old was using (which he had 2). THE DOLLAR WASNT WHAT MADE US ANGRY, it's the fact that someone there thinks it's necessary to get 50 cents to have a few squeezes of bbq or ranch dressing. "Here enjoy your chicken tenders dry without sauce, oh you want something standard to dip it in? We will have to charge you for the STANDARD THINGS chicken tenders are dipped in. It's like serving a burger and up charging for the bun? Why? It's not about the dollar, it's about charging for dipping sauces? You get what I mean. The kids menu is outdated and don't have the "kids eat free on Monday's" anymore. They stopped doing it. The waitress let us know ahead of time so it was ok. The fact that the kids menu was printed on a piece of white paper and couldn't be changed on the same day that decision was made is beyond me. Microsoft word, make a new menu. Or just go to the file that menu was on and delete: "kids eat free on mondays", file, then print 100 copies. It would literally take 3 minutes. Over all good time, but they need to not fry things until they are blackened and the sheer lack of management for not making those easy adjustments to the menus and the information you are being given shows lack of responsibility in ownership. I would return to drink and have a quick bite, but bringing the family there for a dinner at a pub, I wouldn't return. Wait staff was very good. Prompt service and she was very friendly. YOU MUST GO FOR THEIR FRIDAY FISH FRY. Holy goodness, that's some bomb deep fried fish. I am up in Algonquin twice a year to dog-sit for the most adorable pug twins and also house sit for my coworker. While up here I explore the area trying new food and beer spots. I don't know why I overlooked Iron Horse for so long when it's within walking distance. It's a little divey but man I loved everything about it. I went solo and sat at the bar on a Friday and am honestly always a little hesitant to go to places alone. However I didn't get any bad vibes and no heebie jeebies either so loved it! The ladies working the bar were very nice and I was happy my fellow patrons respected my aloneness. :P On Fridays they do a fish fry special for $10 and I gotta tell you, it's some of the best fish I've had in my life. It was a seriously good portion with a well sized side of fries. The fries were quite delicious, too. I was so in love with the light but incredibly crisp battering on the fish and the protein inside was done incredibly well, great flavor and so tasty. Really loved this entree! They had 6 beers on draft from what I could see - Blue Moon, Miller Lite, a couple of Crystal Lake Brewing beers and a couple others. I VERY much appreciated they had some craft beer on tap and really enjoyed them being local craft brews. Like really local. I am so down with that and the two I tried from CLB were very flavor filled. $6 per pint which was very reasonable. I really don't know what took me so long to get into Iron Horse but now I'm so glad I've gone. They have a bunch of items on their menu I'd like to try but it's going to be hard to not go back on a Friday for their bomb@$$ fish!!! read more

Where do I start? We tried to call to order take-out on a Friday night, and the phone rolled to voicemail. So we drove over to order and have a drink at the bar while we waited. Music was so loud, it was hard to hold a conversation sitting right next to each other at the bar. Bartender was good. When we went to place our food order: 1) one in our party wanted a "make your own grilled cheese". Bartender said "we don't have that anymore." When I showed her their online menu on their website that had it (screenshot attached), she said "it must just not be updated." BUT...she did have the kitchen make it for us. 2) my wife ordered salad as a side instead of fries. Bartender even asked her dressing choice. We got home...fries, no salad. 3) Fries were soggy and greasy...a sign of the fryer oil temp being too low. 4) burger was dense and tough. 5) NO BACON FAT POPCORN. It used to be a differentiator here, but I guess they dropped it. Bottom line: if you want a loud townie bar, go here. If you're looking for a good meal and a drink...pass. Been here a couple times and both times it was the same bartender. This could be a couple things. Bad MANAGEMENT who only schedules 1 person to serve the entire bar and the entire restaurant. Even if someone called out, that's the managers job to fill in and work, not to leave one person to run the whole place. The other issue is even the bartender by herself had no sense of urgency. I would've been running around like crazy and she seemed to be taking her sweet time, even checking her cell phone once in a while. She's also not friendly at all. She served me once on a Friday night with other bartenders there and even then she still had a bad attitude and was super super slow. This is not the right job for her....and again MANAGEMENT STEP THE F UP. read more

I had a build your own burger that was tasty, but not cooked to my preferences (a little too undercooked for me). Fries were excellent! First time we went to the place was a Friday night. AYCE fish was pretty good. Pizza likewise good. Pretty crowded, so service was just Okay. Next time we came, told they didn't have enough help so they closed the kitchen. Totally understand as this is a common problem these days. Third time we came we sat down and a waitress came up to us and rudely said she couldn't wait on us, and didn't know how long someone else would. We looked at each other like...how long should we wait? We ultimate thought this was rude and left. We decided the food wasn't worth the wait. Not sure we'll give them another chance. I like patronizing family (non-chain) restaurants especially at this time. The sandwich was decent and the fries were awesome. If someone is reading this from Iron horse, my humble suggestion to make this sandwich 100 times better would be to offer it with spicy mayo either on the side or on the sandwich. I think that extra kick of flavor would offset some of the blandness of a tradtional grilled cheese. Second time, I had a club wrap that included the best pesto I have had in a long time. The pesto was oily and so flavorful, man did it knock my socks off. As always, great fries to accompany the meal. So 2 times in and I would say for sure I will be back. Waitress came and took our appetizer and drink order, drinks came pretty quickly but after 30 minutes, still no appetizer and no sign of waitress. She comes by and takes our meal order, we ask about the appetizers. Five minutes later she comes with refills and apologizes that kitchen is backed up. Soon after the bbq wings arrive. They are big and juicy and the sauce is really good. Burgers arrive. I got the Iron Horse burger and my husband got the Hangover burger. Both were cooked perfectly. Burger meat could have used just a touch of salt. I asked for a side of sauce, but it arrived after I finished my burger. The waitress was really nice, just very busy. We will be back. The food here is great. The place looks a little unexpecting, as it sits in a strip and looks like a typical small bar. While it is a bar, the food is delish. They offer vegan and vegetarian options. They Gouda grilled cheese is amazing and my favorite item on the menu. Their burgers are really good as well and they have hand-cut fries. Since I'm a beer drinker, I do feel their selection is a little lacking, but not that they don't have something I can drink that works. They do have $4 craft beers on Mondays and $1 domestic drafts on Thursdays so you can't really beat that. The crows is typical locals and nothing out of control. I see kids in there so it's also family friendly. They redid the inside so there's a lot of seating. They also have video gambling, a pool table and I saw a dart board in there before. Went for drinks with friends and was disappointed by the arrogant blonde bartender who provided the worst service at the bar possible all because we asked her to stop cranking the music up so loud we couldn't even hold a conversation. Her reply was "well those guys wanted it louder" So apparently in between vaping behind the bar, talking with her friends and ignoring us she decided for herself to earn a zero tip. Even when we asked the bar back to turn it down, he agreed it was way too loud, but the bartender thought she owned the place and didn't care. To the owner: Your bar-back knows how to treat customers, he was very polite and understanding; your bartenders are not...they should switch roles as the bartender is there to make the guests stay longer and enjoy themselves. You lost money due to the junk service from your bartender (blonde female) so we left early and most likely will not be returning. read more

Great beer selections, and man those burgers....to die for! Would come back just for those. Service was a LITTLE slow but honestly for a more bar atmosphere it wasnt even that bad. This may be the worst bar in the Algonquin/Lake In The Hills area. The service is always mediocre to bad at best, but this most recent incident takes the cake. Last night my party of six stopped in around 9:45pm where after the bartender started taking our order, poured us three beers and decided when she got to the last person in our party, she was not going to serve him because he had a vertical out of state ID (Wisconsin). I asked to speak with the bar manager hoping they would use some common sense who also decided the same way. We said "fine" and left immediatley. Two hours later the police show up at my home looking for somebody to pay our bar bill ($10.50). After all was said and done, the bar reviewed their surveilance video and recognized my daughter and called the police to find us to pay the bill despite the fact that nobody even touched a drink. The bar was considering this to be a theft even tough they wouldn't serve our entire party. Incredibly poor judgement on all at the establishment. Here's the real kicker-One of our group gave them a credit card on the front end to run a tab before they ever poured a drink. Instead of just running the card, they called the police to track our party down. We are local residents and will NEVER go back there again. We will tell this story to our friends and encourage them to boycott the Iron Horse as well. They made an egregious error in judgement from start to finish over $10 (Party of 6) and an out of state ID. read more

Extremely disappointed went here about 2 months ago and the fish fry was amazing. Came back tonight had the fish fry and it was terrible, fish was overcooked, rubbery and the fries were cold, coleslaw was brown so we didn't even try that. Then when we got the bill the prices on the receipt were different than the prices on the menu. Asked for the manager and she proceeded to say the owner increased the prices due to COVID but hasn't gotten around to changing the menu pricing. The manager did honor the menu prices so we appreciated that, but will not return due to the low quality of the food. read more

I've visited this place multiple times and I feel like it's starting to go downhill. My first visit I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food is, specially for being a bar. But each time i've been back it's been getting more disappointing. It has also been a hit or miss with service. The last time we had to ask twice to see a food menu. They also got rid of their beer list so there is no way to know exactly everything they have. I'm a huge fan of craft beers and like to try something new every time I go somewhere but since I didn't have a menu to figure out what I haven't had yet, I decided to just stick with water. After my last experience with the service and the food not being as good, I'm not sure if i'd go back or I would not go out of my way to visit. read more

I have never been so appalled in my life by the way we were treated by staff! As servers we understand the business and give grace when we receive bad service! this went beyond bad service , never have I every been treated so terrible by a server who threw the check at us, also snatched it up leaving silverware flying all because we mentioned the price on the check didn't reflect the prices on the menu.
