4+ We felt lucky to find this quaint, classic bake shop when we needed a birthday cake and cookies for our celebration. We called ahead and were told in addition to custom cake orders, they keep several standard 8" cakes (serves 12 or more) on hand. We visited Saturday afternoon and found the shop busy but not crowded. There were half a dozen varieties of cakes on display including carrot, double chocolate, German chocolate and vanilla with strawberries. They graciously added Happy Birthday writing to ours and we picked up two packs of pistachio chocolate cookies. Cake was super fresh, super "homemade" and delicious - cake and cookies both were an absolute hit with everyone at our gathering. Will return - Recommend!! read more

I came here looking for a German chocolate cake for my husband. It's a very cute shop with a huge selection of cookies and reasonable prices on them. I got a bag of different cookies to try. Giant black & white, dipped nutter butters, linzers, & chocolate chip. The linzer cookies where very good, the rest were just okay, not outstanding. I had Cooper Street Bakery made my wedding cake. They did a great job, but there are some pros and cons to this bakery. Pros: -Super affordable! I compared about 8 different bakery's and their prices are by far the most reasonable. -You can sample the different cake flavors for free, many other cake places charge. -I wanted chocolate somewhere on the cake, bc I love it. Bc I did a half naked cake this gets tricky, bc you don't want to see the darkness from the chocolate. They were able to hide it in between the layers. Other cake places discouraged this. It came out just fine! -I got the "half naked" (very lightly frosted, parts of the cake peak through) cake. They did a great job. It looked beautiful and it also tasted great! -Their cake balls are cheap and really good! Cons: -They will only put silk flowers on your cake. -They will NOT put any fresh flowers on cakes. They recommend taking the cake to a florist to put on the flowers. -EVERY cake place I went to WILL put on fresh flowers, but not here. Apparently it's easier to not have to deal with fresh flowers and the risk of them wilting/complaints, etc. Which I understand, but that one extra step could save some stress (on the consumers part!). - The one main problem I had was that, I wanted the cake put on a round wooden block/cake stand. Other bakery's told me to drop it off, so they could put the cake on it for me. This would avoid me having to transfer it onto the stand. This bakery would not do this. They told me I could simply slide the cake out and put it on the stand. This was easier said than done! The cardboard thing the cake was on was way bigger than my stand. We had to cut the cardboard with the cake on it, in order for it to fit on the stand!! This was stressful and the cake ended up with a finger print in it! It was easily smoothed out, but very stressful! Haha. -Cash ONLY! Not really an issue. It's just nice to know this in advance so you come prepared. Overall, if you don't need fresh flowers on a cake/or are comfortable doing it yourself, then you will have no problems! If you want your cake on a special stand, good luck in the transferring process! They have been in business for a long time and know what they are doing. You will save a ton of money coming here and most likely love the final product. They did a great job on my wedding cake and I would definitely recommend this place to others (especially those on a budget). read more

We have used this bakery off and on for over a couple of decades. Since I'm no longer in that area, I haven't ordered from them in over 5 years so I wasn't sure if the quality was the same. Once again, they did not disappoint. We ordered a specialty cake for a baby shower we were hosting. The cake was absolutely a winner. It was an entire sheet for less than $80. That price can't be beat anywhere around here. Also, I was concerned we might get what we paid for in taste quality. Again, they take the cake. I've been getting cakes from here for years and the cake I got was horribly dry and tasted nothing like the cake recipe from the past which was a rich, moist, homemade from scratch cake. I will just travel up the street to a fabulous bakery that accepts ALL forms of payment. I would think you would want to attract new customers. I would think you'd want to encourage your customers to make a purchase but lacking and forms of payment really discourages this. The cake design came out the way my daughter wanted/expected. She was very happy with the design. The cake itself was ok, wasn't so bad. However, the frosting did not taste anything like the sample we tasted before we ordered. Thankful for the sample but what's the point of having tried it if it doesn't end up on top of my cake? Only big drawback of this place that stands out to me is they are CASH ONLY. The cookies are pretty good here. Peanut Butter brownies are AWESOME as well as just the regular fudge ones. We have a customer at work that sends us a bundle of sweets during Christmas and I always look forward to seeing what all comes in it each year. This year we had a Black Forrest cake added to our order. I wasn't a big fan of it, seemed real dry, but the appearance was excellent. The cake color/style we requested (picture was shown to confirm) was not what we were provided. He had requested an ombre gradient rose swirl cake, in their best flavor-Red Velvet. They created a rose swirl cake with three layers of colored icing, no gradient/ombre effect with the exception to the very very very bottom of the cake. I needed a cake for my daughter's 1st birthday. I quoted other places and their prices were ridiculous! Saw this shop on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try. Pros: -Price is right! I got a 2 tier cake that feeds 40 for $68! And a small smash cake for $8! -We discussed the design and I got exactly that. The young lady was helpful with offering suggestions and quotes for what I wanted. -Cake was good. REAL sweet...but good! Cons: -This place needs a renovation. New stands, shelving, display cakes would really do this place some good. The way the general products (cookies, cupcakes, bread) are displayed is unprofessional. Some of the edible food looked old. If this wasn't my last resort, I would've turned around. Presentation is EVERYTHING!! -They only take cash or checks. It's 2017. Somebody needs to set up a PayPal, Venmo, Square or something! -The party was on Sunday and they are closed, so I had to pick the cake up on Saturday. Instead of a cake box it was on a cardboard box with no top and exposed. We put in the fridge overnight, but had to put a trash bag over it. Not a big deal, but you should watch how you present your final product to your customer. It also will leave a lasting impression. Honorable mention: the young lady who cashed me out carried the cake to my car. That was nice of her. Overall, my experience was good. I'll likely be back for the next birthday party. I visited the bakery wanting to order a simple 2-tiered baby shower cake with whipped cream and fresh raspberry filling. I was instantly taken aback upon entering by all of the outdated, messy looking cakes on display. The lady that came out to assist us was very rude from the beginning. When we told her what we wanted, she proceeded to tell us that people equate fresh fruit and whipped cream with grocery store cakes and if that's what we wanted we should go to Kroger or Costco. I've never heard of such ridiculousness! Any establishment even remotely concerned with quality would rather use fresh ingredients than shortening laden buttercream with fake preserve filling. I will add that I reluctantly visited this bakery in the first place. I ordered a baby shower cake from them in 2008 and it was horrible. It tasted like they poured the entire bottle of almond extract in the filling. In this case, 2 strikes and you're out! I will never again darken their doorstep. Ugh, what is it about Arlington that makes the bakeries so shitty??? This is the third bakery I've visited in Arlington since moving here, and it's the third bakery in Arlington that I hate. I walked in, saw how gross the shop looked and almost turned right back around and left. The fake cakes were grimy, everything in the display cases looked disheveled, the cookies all looked crumbly and misshapen and boring, the clearance items were roughly tossed or shoved into plastic bags and super smooshed, and they had mini pies out on display that looked like they'd been dropped a few times! But ugh, the lady's kids were there with her and I didn't want to be rude, so I stayed. I was greeted literally one second after walking in with an annoyed "do you know what you want???" I told her no, this is my first time and I'll need a minute. She then disappeared without a word. I actually didn't realize she had left to go into the back until I asked a question about something in the display case and realized I was talking to myself. Uh... OK then. She eventually came back out, and I asked her what the specialities were, you know, the things they're proud of and that people come back repeatedly for. She kinda stuttered and fumbled and just said that they've been open for 23 years and everything is good. Uh oh, another terrible sign. -_- I saw that they had prepackaged trays of 8+ brownies, danishes, some chocolate cookies with chocolate icing on them, and a few other intriguing items that actually looked tasty, so I asked if they have any for individual sale cuz I don't need 8 damn brownies. Plus all the individual items looked really boring. She acted annoyed again and just said no. I wasn't even surprised at this point. So I finally picked out what I thought would be a good assortment of the individual cookies to make a fair judgement of the business so I could just get the hell out of there. Then, to the register. She gives me the total and I try to hand her my card, but she says in the most annoyed voice possible that they only take cash or check. Keep in mind that she never mentioned this to me when I said I was a new customer. At this point, I just laughed internally at the epic failure that this shop is, but politely said "ah, never mind, have a good day" and walked out. So glad that the ONLY thing I wasted here was my time. Usually I like to offer suggestions on how to improve, but wow, this place is just a train wreck. I'm actually OK with brusque service and sloppy aesthetics as long as the product is delicious, that's why I not only tolerate Stein's bakery with their lukewarm service, I return embarrassingly often. But y'all? Nooooot worth it - I'll just drive a tortuous hour to Stein's. I'm so happy for you that you've made it 23 years...... Good luck with the next 23 years seeing as how you're stuck pretty much exactly 23 years in the past. If every single ubiquitous donut shop and all other types of low-dollar-amount-transaction places can take card... you're just plain lazy for not upgrading.
