They used a brown box as a cake box, which is okay, but the box was modified incompletely, leaving the top half of the cake exposed and not fully covered. My son is nine years old and he was having a birthday party. So I have had nine years of trying to find good cake. I must be the unluckiest cake person there ever was because in the eight years prior to now, I could never find a cake that tasted good. I've had some of the most beautiful and unique Kids cake designs that ever could be imagined, but the taste was lacking. This really shouldn't be because I really try to avoid fondant. So I am new to the area and found this lovely store on Yelp and I must say that I probably got on the lady's nerves who took my order telling her about how I just wanted to have a delicious cake. We even ordered cupcakes to taste them to figure out if we liked the cake there. I will say the cupcakes were just OK. They were small in size and had a dabble of icing on top. This did give me pause for concern, because I probably wouldn't order another cupcake. Not that it was a bad cupcake. It just overall wasn't great and I am really particular about my cupcakes. So I was a little nervous about my $200 birthday cake, that was to feed 25 kids. Well I picked it up and it was ready on time and it was exactly what I requested. It looked like it was going to be hard and I was still scared It wasn't going to taste great. I was so surprised. This cake was delicious. It was moist and the icing was perfect. They use a cream for the layers and there were a few layers inside which was unexpected. She asked me in the store what flavor did I want for the cream and I chose white chocolate. I do not like white chocolate, but this did not taste like it was white chocolate. Again, this was the best cake I've in all of the nine years of my son's life and my quest for finding good cake. So I agree with the five stars reviews and I would definitely patronize Cake o Holics bakery for future birthday parties! read more

My sister surprised me with 12 macarons from cake-aholics for my 53rd birthday today. She knows I love macarons instead of cake, however I don't know if these macarons old or rushed to get them out to sell, but the consistency was off for all the macarons for me. SHELL - all the shells were crunchy, like I was eating biscotti. I'm used to a crispy eggshell top and bottom. The rise of macarons where very bloated. As I stated I love macarons and I have had macarons from various places around DFW. FILLING - the fillings for all the macarons had a HORRIBLE after taste. They were overstuffed and VERY sweet, again I love a good macaron, but I couldn't finish one macaron. The filling ratio to cookie was very thick, so much so, the filling was so stuffed the filling was oozing out. SIZE - the macarons where very small in size, which was fine, but the macaron tops and bottoms were very puffy. INTERIOR - the interior was very, very crunchy, unlike many other macarons which should be slightly chewy. I've NEVER had macarons this hard and crunchy. OVERALL - I would not purchase macarons from cake-aholics and as a rule of thumb for me, I purchase one macaron to test out, if shell and filling are good, I'll purchase more. read more

Matthew and his staff delivered impeccable customer service with me and every single customer that came in during my shoot. I'm so bummed to write this review. I ordered my wedding cake from Cake-aholics 3 years ago and it blew us away! Vanilla, snickerdoodle, and chocolate tiers of Yumm. My wife and I wanted to bring in our 3rd anniversary with a sweet memory so we ordered a 6in snickerdoodle cake. When I placed the order a woman assisted me by asking for my preferred flavor and design. We decided on a white base with elegant designs to mimic our wedding cake in emerald green and gold. When I arrived to pick up my order I was so disappointed to see what looked like a grocery store cake. We decided not to sweat the small stuff, add a few sunflower accents, & get to the good part, until we cut into the cake and it was terrible. There were chunks of hard pieces throughout and it was really a vanilla cake with clusters of cinnamon instead of a snickerdoodle cake flavor. I want to start off saying that the taste of both the wedding and groom cakes was very good. The groom's cake was decorated perfectly. Our issue is with the wedding cake. Maybe there was a miscommunication but the decorations were lack luster at best. We asked for icing flowers and got something that looked like it was bought at a grocery store and stuck on the cake. The flowers were supposed to cascade but only 3 little clumps. The response received from the owner was very disappointing. If you use this bakery be very sure you communicate expectations. Two stars is generous. The two stars are because of location, decor, and cupcakes for two bucks. This little Bakery is in a strip mall, parking wasn't a problem. Inside is very cute, the decor is adorable. They even have a couple little tables outside! There was a large selection of cupcakes, a couple cookie choices, mini pies, cake by the slice. There were additional pastries in another case. I was waited on pretty quick. I got 6 cupcakes, an oatmeal raisin cookie, and a chocolate chip cookie. I specifically asked the gentleman behind the counter if the chocolate chip cookie was hard? Or if it was soft? His response was that "it was crunchy on the outside and soft in the center." That was perfectly acceptable to me. I do not like a crunchy cookie. That was the whole purpose of asking the question before I spent my money on it. So, when I got out to the car, the first thing I did was pull the cookie out of the little bag. It was indeed, crunchy on the outside, the inside was not rock hard, just less crunchy than it was on the outside. It crumbled a lot when you took a bite... But the inside was NOT soft. Maybe that's the question that needs to be asked.... Is the cookie hard? Or is it hard as a rock? You know when your nose is stuffed up and you can't really taste? You know the food is there, and it kind of has an essence of the food that you're eating, but it doesn't really taste like it? That was how these cupcakes were. just wasn't very much flavor to them at all. They could have come from the Albertsons bakery across the street! The cupcakes did not seem like a scratch cake. They tasted like an altered cake mix. I got two red velvet,2 strawberry, chocolate, vanilla. I took one bite from every cupcake and threw them all away. I really don't understand how people are giving this location 4 stars... Or even 5! The decorations on your specialty order cakes may look amazing and your taste buds are just blinded by the decor. We've ordered from here several times and have always been pleased with the service and product, however I don't think we will be back. My 1 year old has a serious food allergy and trying to make sure the cake was free of her allergens was a hassle and not as straight forward as it should have been. We waited almost 30 minutes for our order to be brought out to us when they said it would be ready at a certain time. I dropped off cake toppers and decor I purchased online a week and a half prior to the pick up date (per their request) and they lost the one for the smash cake. I had called a few hours before coming to pick the cake up to make sure it was ready, so why they waited until I got there to tell me they couldn't find the decorations was beyond me. They asked for me to drop them off at least a week in advance so if they couldn't find it then, why wouldn't they call or email me? When I showed up it was a literal blank white cake. They eventually found the decor. When I asked the person at the counter if it was indeed vegan because of my daughter's allergies, her response was "I don't know. I didn't make it." After all of the confusing communications regarding this allergy, it seems this bakery doesn't take it very seriously and that's concerning. The smash cake was indeed vegan (I had to ask the girl to double check because I didn't want my child to end up in the hospital) but it was so dense it couldn't be smashed. Which isn't that big of a deal in the big scheme of things, but I wish something had been said prior. They knew it was for a smash cake which really defeats the purpose if it can't be smashed because of how hard it is. I wouldn't have spent $60 on a cake that was for the sole purpose of that first birthday smash if it couldn't actually be smashed. An adult couldn't even smash it. We had another order a couple days later that we placed at the same time we placed the cake order. They quoted us $85 for an 18 piece cookie decorating kit. I said that was ridiculous and got that somewhere else. Today they posted a cookie decorating kit for $20. Makes me wonder what else they gouged me on. We went ahead and got some meringues, tarts, and macaroons but when my husband showed up to get the order they said they didn't have an order for us. They eventually found it. It's so unfortunate how unorganized this place is and how flippantly they treat allergies. The owner is so friendly and creates beautiful cakes, but It would make me nervous trusting them to have an accurate order for a big event. read more

They were super helpful I called them around 8 AM and they were able to have all my cupcakes decorated and ready by 11 AM!
