Good afternoon Nichol & Les Cooper, I am writing to express our extreme displeasure with the service received at Cooper's Landing Restaurant this past Sunday. I think I'll explain the concerns step by step. We called in advance to see if a reservation was required and asked if there was a blanket fee for the brunch. I called back and made a reservation for Dr. Melton for 12:30 pm, since we had about an hour's drive. We arrived at the front door at 12:20 and requested to be seated inside. We ordered the Irish coffee and waited for appetizers to arrive. Forty-five minutes later the appetizer arrived and the waitress took the entree order. We asked about the extended wait but was told a big table came in and our order would be out soon. After another few minutes, my husband went to inquire about the delay. He asked to speak to the manager and the manager was very rude. He overheard "They don't have to come back". My husband immediately requested the check! They said fine, so we expected the check immediately. After another few minutes they sent the food which we had already said we did not want. We requested the check again, minutes pass and they brought a bill with the ENTIRE invoice. We told them we already requested the check before the entrees. The staff then requested us to come to the back and we requested the owner come to us. Eventually, they brought the corrected check which we paid and left. After seeing others being brought their meals, when they arrived after us, we left totally frustrated and wondered if being an African American couple was the reason for the horrific service? The ambiance is wonderful sitting under the wisteria on the large deck. Food was great and I recommend sharing a pitcher of the Strawberry Lemonade cocktail. Toward the later part of dinner, it started getting cold and our server, Terrill, brought us blankets to drape over our legs. Talk about going above and beyond with customer service! Saw an ad in the state Travel Guide so decided to stop in while heading east. Wow! Worth the drive from anywhere! The craft cocktails were incredible especially the Lavender martini. We loved our stay at Cooper's Landing. What a pretty historic inn right in the heart of Clarksville. We were greeted by Trisha, who was just wonderful and attentive and accommodating in all aspects. Gauche, tawdry, graceless - $357.81 reasons why, with photos! After looking at the website and the anticipation of spending a night at a not so cheap B&B - all I can say is that they had a great photographer shoot their photos - at least my photos present a truer picture and they're free! Coopers Landing was recommended by someone locally as a great B&B and a dog friendly place. Made reservations to include our dog for an over night stay. After a 4-1/2 hour drive we arrived only to be met by a staff member who rudely informed us that the reservation did not include a dog and that she did not know if we could stay there. I told her that I did make the reservation to include our dog with the understanding that there was a $25.00 fee included in our charges. She then consulted someone else, returned to us and said, "We'll let you stay". (At this point I knew we were not off to a good start). On the way to the "Sage Room", this same staff member asked, "Is your dog a yapper? Because you have people next door to you". I informed her no. I then inquired about our 6:00 dinner reservations on the patio (they at least got that right). She confirmed this, then told us that we would be seated in the corner so the dog would not disturb the other diners. (By this time I was fuming). She showed us to our room, pointed out the "amenities" and such. Told us to keep the entry way door closed to keep the upstairs rooms cool. (One thermostat must control all rooms on this level - how handy). As she left she gave us a sticky note with the key code written on it to get into our room. We went down to eat dinner (with the dog). Considering the prices on the menu we expected a delicious meal. Wrong - it was mediocre at best. On a positive note, the other diners loved the dog. Back to the Sage Room. The free amenities included small bags of chips, ground coffee in a plastic bag, two coffee cups an old Mr. Coffee brewer. The small frig held bottled water and on top of the frig was the microwave oven. The room appeared to be furnished with flea market finds that must have been meant to convey a "shabby chic" look, but it missed the mark - it just looked shabby and cheap. The bed covering was stained and the pillows only had pillow cases covering them - there was no pillow protectors. Then there was the mattress - great if you like sleeping in a trough. The bathroom was decorated with the leftover flea market finds. Maybe I expected too much paying for a $200/night room - but toilet paper on a small shelf above the toilet (next to the luxury bath products in a box) just doesn't make the right impression. Oh, I almost forgot the two person jacuzzi tub - looked old and worn. Checking out the next morning I spoke with one of the owners, a very lovely young woman. She said she heard about the mix up but didn't have an opportunity to speak to us about it. Paid our $357.81 tab and left. There is a saying "You get what you pay for". We've been to this Inn for dinners and occasions quite frequently over the last 20 years. Mostly because this town disn't used to have a more than one good steak place. We understand that it's busy. I myself have worked in the hospitality industry for many years so I can empathize with situations that arise and pose a challenge. Sitting tables outside when the temp is 46 degrees is not a standard practice unless you are at a ski resort. We were seated and told by our waitress that if we left we would be charged for a missed reservation fee of 75.00 since it was Mother's Day. We sat and looked around and the table behind us picked up and left and the other table sat hooded and hunched over their menus. We ordered food and took it to go to forego the 75.00 fee we would have otherwise been charged. I understand that we preferred to be seated outside upon making the reservation however, in the hospitality industry your job is to arrange things ahead of time in case you have inclement weather conditions so that you are prepared. Seating people out in cold weather when it's 45 degrees in May is not hospitable or acceptable. We would have happily waited for a seat even in a warm outside corner under cover but you ignored my requests as you walked us outside. You didn't even care. read more

Finally! An excellent restaurant in Clarksville! The venue is beautiful, both in the historic house and on the outside patio, which is tucked under gorgeous trees and sparkled with fairy lights. The menu is fresh and has lots in offer for both meat eaters and vegetarians. I had the vegetables in homemade puff pastry, and it was just excellent--perfect pastry and just the right veggies and cheese inside, served surrounded by tender greens. For dessert, homemade cheesecake with warm bananas Foster topping--also superb. Service was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. I will ask for John's table next visit, for sure! I inked a contract with Cooper's to host my rehearsal dinner before I'd even set foot in the place, so great was the communication with the owner Nichol (yeah, and the fact that I didn't really have many options in teeny-tiny South Boston!). I paid a visit to them while out that way to work out some things with my wedding venue. We grabbed brunch and sat on the patio. The food was phenomenal! I had the crab dip and eggs benedict and was that much more excited we'd picked out an extensive menu for our heavy hors d'œuvre rehearsal. On our big day (or rather, the day before our big day!), I was disappointed that Nichol was not present. I think she was ill. In any case, there was still plenty of staff in place to serve drinks and keep the tables clear. But I was told the outdoor patio had heaters (important to me, since it was after dark in November and because we knew ahead of time all my guests would barely fit indoors and I wanted to have a nice outdoor space for the speeches and toasts we had planned. Turns out the heaters were broken; it was way too chilly to stay outside so we found ourselves crammed indoors and segregated into multiple rooms -- which worked out just fine for eating and visiting, but was a real bummer when Phil and I were trying to say our thank yous and give out gifts to the wedding VIPs. On to the food. Which was, as I'd anticipated, AMAZING. I only wish I'd spent less time gabbing and more time grubbing! We got numerous compliments on everything that was there. I remember the bruschetta, brie, and stuffed mushrooms being particularly yum. And of course, the dessert fondue was stellar! Nichol and I had a little miscommunication about what time my event was supposed to end, so that the restaurant could open to the public. I felt bad that I didn't make sure to get the time span in writing in our contract as I could have prevented the rush to get everyone out and all our leftover food packed up that incurred as a result. But it was a small snag in an otherwise perfect wedding weekend. Moreover, Nichol was so courteous and professional when I reached out to her about the confusion. Such excellent customer service, especially :after: the fact definitely warrants recommendation. I hope we'll be able to pay another visit one day and stay with them in one of their cute B&B rooms. I live in Richmond and travel often for work, so I've eaten at many nice places, but I would choose to eat at Coopers everytime if I could. If you are looking to splurge I would have a filet. The crab dip and Brie are a must. Some people think they can't afford Coopers but there prices for a good steak compare to other local restaurants, but these steaks are far superior. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, I suggest one of their salads and add chicken. It's the perfect meal. But -. First, it's overpriced and pretentious. Second, the service was just adequate. Third, they had the nerve to charge $5 per person cover charge for a group that began playing just before we asked for the check. But the real problem - my $25 steak had five big chunks of gristle that I left on the plate, amounting to at least 15% of the steak. When the waiter asked how everything was I pointed out the the flawed steak. His response - "I'll tell the chef". That's the last I heard. This place is extremely charming. My friends and I visited for a cooking class before Valentine's Day. What a fun and wonderful experience! We wanted to come do this because Cooper's has been incredibly generous to our nonprofit donating a night's stay the past couple of years. I have heard great things about their holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Easter as well. They start by offering a cheese and wine reception. Then yeh group goes into the kitchen where there's a giant table and cook space to watch everything that is happening. They give you printed recipes to take with you as well. We made prosciutto wrapped asparagus, Seafood puff pastry, and Bananas flambé (bananas foster). The chefs were very nice and funny and talented. I will definitely do another class here! read more

I've been here a few times now and they never disappoint. The chefs are on par with any you find in Raleigh or Durham. They have great fresh menus. Tonight we went for one of their Monday night cooking classes and it was fantastic. They are so friendly and taught very well. They gave us recipes and showed us how to make each thing. We started out with a nice meet and greet cheese and wine. We enjoyed some excellent wine pairings. I look forward to going again! The bananas flambe are worth the drive. I can't wait to try them at home. They also have a nice bed and breakfast on site as well as catering and weddings. Clarksville is a nice little town on the lake for a weekend away and Coopers Landing would be Great get away! I can't stop thinking about the seafood pastry. The ambiance is wonderful and the gracious owners, Les & Nichol, are not only amazing, but have surrounded themselves with the most incredible staff. Les is a fabulous chef, and the breakfasts yummy and the dinner menu is delicious. We love their romantic packages and have come twice for Valentine's Day and this past time for our anniversary. My girlfriend and I stayed at Cooper's Landing for a weekend getaway. The breakfasts were included with the package, but we only got two choices each day, and none of the choices appealed to us. I tried the Eggs Benedict and was not a fan. We had dinner once. We both tried the New York strip steak and thought it was tough and grizzly. Sides were ok. We had dessert and coffee both nights and we loved the desserts! It was Fall, so everything had pumpkin in it and was so good. Besides food, the bed wasn't comfortable at all. We couldn't sleep well. Cooper's Landing is a beautiful restaurant with great service. It has an extensive but overpriced wine list; Clos Du Bois is priced around $45! We got the crab dip and a couple of salads. The crab dip was fantastic and the store bought bread paired up with it was also welcoming. Sliced apples give it great flavor. My Caesar salad was tasty but I didn't go for the onions, never have I ever eaten a Caesar salad with chopped yellow onions. My girlfriend got the Michelena's salad. The strawberry vinaigrette was wayyyyyy to overpowering to taste anything else in the salad. They also skimped on the goat cheese. The service was friendly and attentive. There was live music that was outside on the patio. When we were presented the check there was a cover charge on it, however, NO ONE informed us of the cover. This is why this restaurant gets 3 stars instead of 4 stars. You cannot do business like that; it will drive away guests and leave a bad taste in their mouth. Bottom line. Skip the overpriced wine, if there is live music be prepared to pay a "hidden" fee, get the crab dip and go light on the strawberry vinaigrette. read more

We recently got married at Coopers Landing on June 10th, 2017. The night before we had my father in law stay at one of the cottages. The cottage was nice except for the rusty chairs out back at the fire pit. The wooden chairs were so bad that only a small child could sit in them. They were late to stock the fire pit with wood. They wanted an extra 250 bucks for a rehearsal without food. The coordinator for the wedding was very last minute and did not get things right for us. We were changing things from traditional and the coordinator would not let the bride do what she wanted. The pastor was nice and very laid back. He explained things to us during the ceremony. The pastor did forget about our sandy ceremony. The staff that did our music just let it play at random even though we had a list of what we wanted. We were able to eat and the food was okay. After half of our party got food, they did not put anymore out. We had talked about chicken nuggets for the kids and they did not put out any until we asked for it. They only brought out a small amount. We clearly did not get enough food for our wedding. This was so disappointing to us since we were told that we would have food left over! So a lot of the party did not get much food at all. My parents had to stop on the way home since they only got a few things to eat. It was suppose to be great food and we were disappointed in it all. We paid for 75 people and only had around 50 at the wedding. The food was NOT what we expected. The crab dip was awesome but everything else was either cold or did not taste good. We asked for Sam Adams Summer Ale to be at the cash bar. We did NOT get that! Later that night got to our room and had added in our contract that a bucket of Sam Adams Summer Ale to be delivered to our room. We went to our room to change and found that we had received Sam Adams Boston Lager. We told the staff and they brought us back the right beer in about an hour. This was very frustrating since we had talked with the owner about the seasonal beer that is our favorite! The lamps in the bedroom did not work along with an electrical outlet. The cable in our room also did not work. The next morning was a family breakfast since we had a few people from out of town. The sausage was under cooked and it was just okay. The staff did a good job of refilling drinks but the food was not what we expected. We had heard from so many people that it was so good and we were disappointed with it all together. We had to pick from two things of what we wanted for breakfast. I do NOT like that since it is the day after of our wedding and we should be able to pick what we want to eat that day. They explained if it rains that we had a covered porch for an alternate venue. Well they had a baby shower going with loud music and a lot of people. This frustrated us since our music was messed up music and the baby shower music was louder than ours! This was our day and they did not accommodate us like they promised they would! The venue itself is a beautiful place if you want an outside wedding. The staff was nice but did not accommodate our needs very well. I would not recommend this venue unless you are able to be satisfied with low quality, not enough food, and NO attention to detail! I was so hopeful for this venue and I was disappointed in a LOT of things! I am just thankful that my bride was so easygoing and happy to marry me! I wanted to be able to come back to the bed & breakfast for an anniversary but I will NOT come back to pay 250 a night for a place that does not fulfill the expectations that we agreed to! read more

Wonderful attention to detail and very romantic atmosphere!!! After staying in the Sunshine Cottage, with my spouse, for a weekend, I was astonished how much we enjoyed ourselves. Nicole was amazing in assisting me arrange a surprise weekend for my husband. I chose the anniversary package, which included rose petals on the bed, chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of wine and fresh flowers in our room, upon arrival. It also included a picnic basket lunch, for the following day, and dinner for two at their on-site restaurant, which was incredibly tasty.
