We came by on a Wednesday night and they were busy but we got a table easily. They have an upstairs up the spiral stairs. It is a local bar with license plates, police patches and other beer signs. We ordered hush puppies which came out quickly. We ordered 1/2 rack dry ribs with potato salad and corn nuggets and baked wings and fries with no salt. Our waiter was great with our order. The hush puppies were good and our dinners were also. The potato salad was like thick lumpy mashed potatoes but tasted ok. Overall food was good and waiter was excellent. read more

I was in town for a few days and this restaurant was recommended to me. Im glad I took heed to the advice. At first, the place looks like a hole in the wall but when you enter, it gives off that country home feel. You see collections of license plates which adds character to the place. The night I arrived very was crowded so I ate at the bar. You can eat outside if you prefer and there's an upper deck in the interior. I ordered their ribs, turnip greens and corn nuggets with a Malibu sunset on the side. Granted Alabama isn't known for BBQ but the cook and Alex (bartender) did not disappoint! I didn't eat half the half slab and had enough for another night's meal. This is one of those places where the food tastes so good it makes you want to slap your momma! The meat falls off the bone and is super tender. Their side of hot bbq sauce is also probably the best bbq sauce I've had...! The place is small so there may be a wait. But it's has an extremely fun vibe with lots of Alabama-grown beer on tap! Finally got the opportunity to try this establishment while recently visiting the area. BOY, am I glad I did! This isn't a huge place but they have indoor & outdoor seating options available. There's open seating at the bar which is first come first serve. I must warn you that the staff is overwhelmed and they are understaffed. With that in mind , be patient bc they were all working hard during my visit. My order was take out and there was a little bit of a wait for my food. Well worth the wait. I had a half rack of ribs , side of coleslaw and an order of hillbilly egg rolls. My mom had a pork sandwich and fries. We both enjoyed our food so much! The ribs were extremely flavorful and tender. I elected to try their hot bbq sauce vs the mild bbq sauce. The ribs needed no assistance and stood TALL on their own but the sauce did add a nice little kick! The coleslaw was decent ; I've had better but I would order it again. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED the hillbilly egg rolls....AMAZING & HEAVENLY!!! There's not a huge parking lot but this is something to consider if you come here. Also , the restaurant is located off a main , intersecting road which could possibly be busy at any given time. While in Anniston to attend a class at FEMA's Office of Domestic Preparedness we decided to head out to Cooter Brown's to see what all the fuss was about. This place was highly recommended by folks from California all the way to Alabama. Now I know what all the hullabaloo is about! We started with appetizers; hillbilly egg rolls and stuffed potato skins. The egg rolls were huge, filled with smoked brisket, homemade coleslaw, and chopped pickles. They were very good. The skins were pretty much what you would expect. They were good, too. The ribs however were over the top, awesome! The potato salad was delicious, and cooter's cob was unexpectedly tasty - I should have guessed, I guess, being that it is a deep fried cob of corn. What isn't great when it's deep fried? Well this was fantastic! There were also some scrumptious hush puppies on the plate! The dinner was stupendous! When the waitress, who by the way provided excellent service, said there was peanut butter pie we had to try it! It too, was really good. This truly is an establishment not to be missed! Time and time again, Cooter's name kept coming up in conversations with the locals. We had no wheels and had made arrangements to be picked up by a shuttle service. We told the driver we wanted some good old southern style BBQ. Guess where he brought us? Yup, right here! They have some crazy weird items on the menu like egg rolls. We tried it all. The star of the show..the dry rub! This is a must! Get a side of their bbq sauce and dip this bad boy dry rub meat into a bath of this sauce and you will have an experience. That is for sure! Cooter Browns came up in conversation as a place to visit while in Anniston Alabama with my colleagues. I was told it was a place to get BBQ ribs and other southern food. Well my co-workers and I got on a shuttle bus from where we were staying and traveled (with quite a few others) just to eat some ribs. We lucked out and we got the last 4 seats in the restaurant. Mind you, just because it is Anniston Alabama, it doesn't mean the restaurant won't be packed, because it was PACKED! Well we got our menus and we ordered drinks first....I got the Cooter Juice, which was pretty delicious, although probably very high in alcohol content as well as the amount of sugar consumed, but still highly recommended. I decided to try more than I could possibly eat! I got the dry ribs (half rack) and 10 pieces of the hot wings. A half of rack of ribs was a pretty decent serving size! Much more than I could possibly eat in one sitting. It also came with fries and I ordered corn nuggets and cole slaw to go with it. I must admit, those ribs were good! Very flavorful, soft, falls right off the bone, and done right....exactly how ribs are supposed to taste. It also comes with a bbq sauce for dipping and a really soft white toast (I guess to but the saltiness of the meat). The chicken wings however were just okay. Nothing special and it was not hot at all. I expected that since I was in the south, I'd be getting some heat with the hot wings, but I did not. If you want heat, get a higher level of spice. Drinks were good and a lot of the drinks reminded me of my college days and those sweet mixed drinks I'd have at the bars...like the grateful dead! So delicious! I'd recommend coming and trying this place out if you're in the area (although it'll be pretty heavy and you'll feel disgusting after eating it) but it's worth a visit just to try some southern BBQ ribs. read more

Cooter Browns is an amazing shack on the side of the road. There Cooter juice is a must have at least once. They have a nice on tap beer selection as well. I ordered ribs, corn nuggets, hush puppies, Cooter eggrolls, smoked sausage and some pork rinds. I was hungry and I wanted to try as much as I could and then take the rest home. I had the choice between wet and dry ribs and hot or mild sauce. I went with the dry rub and hot BBQ sauce on the side. I like to dip me meat when trying a new BBQ spot. The ribs were a bit dry for pork ribs in my opinion but the sauce made up for it. The Hot BBQ sauce was on point. I then moved onto the smoke sausage. I don't normally order sausage but I wanted to give there's a shot. It was amazing!!! The corn nuggets were golden delicious and the hush puppies were awesome as well for me I wish they would have had some malt vinegar but that's just me. Not gonna lie...this was pretty good BBQ. The dry rub was perfect. Perfect enough I bought two to bring home. The staff are wonderful and great with their customers. We were with a group of 8 and got right in. Greeted and seated and drinks within less than 10 min. I ordered a half rack of ribs and 10 wings. This place was one of the few local options we had while in Anniston for CDC training. Its on the shuttle stop. Unfortunately everyone wanted to try it out on the same day and we had to wait forever for a table - and missed our shuttle back. That was okay however because the food was great! We had great and fast service. The bbq was flavorful, fresh, and meat just fell off the bone! The sides were delicious too. We went in a group and EVERYONE was very happy with the food. Our one little itty bitty complaint was that everyone felt let down by the cooter juice! Most of us had 2-3 and there wasn't even the slightest of buzz. It was like drinking lemonade.
