Get your butt into Cooter's. A must-stop for anybody who finds themselves in Anniston, AL. Drinks were cheap and the pulled pork was bomb. Ribs aren't my thing but even these had me goin' for a bit. Love me some Cooter Brown's!

We came by on a Wednesday night and they were busy but we got a table easily. They have an upstairs up the spiral stairs. It is a local bar with license plates, police patches and other beer signs. We ordered hush puppies which came out quickly. We ordered 1/2 rack dry ribs with potato salad and corn nuggets and baked wings and fries with no salt. Our waiter was great with our order. The hush puppies were good and our dinners were also. The potato salad was like thick lumpy mashed potatoes but tasted ok. Overall food was good and waiter was excellent.

I was in town for a few days and this restaurant was recommended to me. Im glad I took heed to the advice. At first, the place looks like a hole in the wall but when you enter, it gives off that country home feel. You see collections of license plates which adds character to the place. The night I arrived very was crowded so I ate at the bar. You can eat outside if you prefer and there's an upper deck in the interior. I ordered their ribs, turnip greens and corn nuggets with a Malibu sunset on the side. Granted Alabama isn't known for BBQ but the cook and Alex (bartender) did not disappoint! I didn't eat half the half slab and had enough for another night's meal. This is one of those places where the food tastes so good it makes you want to slap your momma! Now that we're clear, there's no comparison. My only regret is that I didn't stop by again on my last night in town. Great job to management. I highly recommend this place.

Cooter Brown's Rib Shack is a hidden gem in Jacksonville, Alabama. This down-home restaurant is known for its delicious ribs, wings, and sandwiches. The ribs are cooked to perfection and fall off the bone. The atmosphere at Cooter Brown's is casual and relaxed. The restaurant is small and cozy, with a few tables and a bar. The walls are decorated with vintage signs and photos. And the staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend Cooter Brown's Rib Shack to anyone looking for a great meal in Jacksonville. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting, and the staff is friendly. You won't be disappointed. However, the restaurant is small and gets very crowded. We make an effort to always visit whenever I'm in town on business. It's well worth the wait though! I also highly recommend buying yourself some of the dry rub and wet ribs to take home with you. Shhh... nobody has to know what your secret recipe is.

This place was recommended to me by someone who's lived in different places and travel all over to play golf. He swears this place has the best dry rub ribs and would drive out here (he lives an hour away!) at least once a week!! And he was right! This place has the best dry ribs I've ever had. The meat falls off the bone and is super tender. Their side of hot bbq sauce is also probably the best bbq sauce I've had...! The place is small so there may be a wait. But it's has an extremely fun vibe with lots of Alabama-grown beer on tap! You can also ask your waiter for a sharpie to write in ANYTHING there... yes, this includes their tables, photos on walls, walls, napkin holder, etc. and it's not vandalizing! I will definitely be back here when I'm in Anniston and will try to look for my vandalism.

Finally got the opportunity to try this establishment while recently visiting the area. BOY, am I glad I did! This isn't a huge place but they have indoor & outdoor seating options available. There's open seating at the bar which is first come first serve. I must warn you that the staff is overwhelmed and they are understaffed. With that in mind , be patient bc they were all working hard during my visit. My order was take out and there was a little bit of a wait for my food. Well worth the wait. I had a half rack of ribs , side of coleslaw and an order of hillbilly egg rolls. My mom had a pork sandwich and fries. We both enjoyed our food so much! The ribs were extremely flavorful and tender. I elected to try their hot bbq sauce vs the mild bbq sauce. The ribs needed no assistance and stood TALL on their own but the sauce did add a nice little kick! The coleslaw was decent ; I've had better but I would order it again. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED the hillbilly egg rolls....AMAZING & HEAVENLY!!! There's not a huge parking lot but this is something to consider if you come here. Also , the restaurant is located off a main , intersecting road which could possibly be busy at any given time. Cooter Brown's is certainly a spot you would want to add to your list IF you are a true Foodie! You're welcome.

BEST DRY RUB RIBS! Cooked & seasoned perfectly 10/10! hush puppies, okra and the corn nuggets 10/10! Great service and cool $20 T-shirts for purchase.

It's a cozy place. Not much room but that's alright! See if they'll seat you upstairs. I haven't gotten to eat here as much as I want but the barbecue cheese fries? Amazing.

While in Anniston to attend a class at FEMA's Office of Domestic Preparedness we decided to head out to Cooter Brown's to see what all the fuss was about. This place was highly recommended by folks from California all the way to Alabama. Now I know what all the hullabaloo is about! We started with appetizers; hillbilly egg rolls and stuffed potato skins. The egg rolls were huge, filled with smoked brisket, homemade coleslaw, and chopped pickles. They were very good. The skins were pretty much what you would expect. They were good, too. The ribs however were over the top, awesome! The potato salad was delicious, and cooter's cob was unexpectedly tasty - I should have guessed, I guess, being that it is a deep fried cob of corn. What isn't great when it's deep fried? Well this was fantastic! There were also some scrumptious hush puppies on the plate! The dinner was stupendous! When the waitress, who by the way provided excellent service, said there was peanut butter pie we had to try it! It too, was really good. This truly is an establishment not to be missed! Make it a point to visit and get some of the best barbecue in Alabama!

***** YEEEEEE HAWWWW**** "Tasty Butts?" Wow, an old wood building out in an area to itself with a sign out front "Good Ribs and Tasty Butts!" Cooter, a perfect name for you to imagine the mechanic from old Hazard County retiring from working on cars and opening up a dry rub rib joint. Of course, this is not true but it does set the scene for what it felt like coming here. I was close by Anniston for over a week. Time and time again, Cooter's name kept coming up in conversations with the locals. We had no wheels and had made arrangements to be picked up by a shuttle service. We told the driver we wanted some good old southern style BBQ. Guess where he brought us? Yup, right here! They have some crazy weird items on the menu like egg rolls. We tried it all. The star of the show..the dry rub! This is a must! Get a side of their bbq sauce and dip this bad boy dry rub meat into a bath of this sauce and you will have an experience. That is for sure! No need for your shotgun, Boss Hog or Daisy Duke. These ribs stand alone and definitely their "Tasty Butts" gotta be better than Daisy's herself. I am a fan!

As a first timer, I found their menu to be slightly confusing. I ended up with the rocket burger snack ( add bacon & tomato, no rocket sauce). It came with fries. My guest had the chicken finger basket. It came with fries and you could also pick baked beans, slaw or more fries. They opted for fries and slaw. Our food took a long time but like I stated , they were veryyyyyyy busy! We enjoyed our meal pretty well. The Rocket has been around since 1958, so it was pretty cool to have visited here while in town. Only knock , music too loud that it's hard to hear your number called. The staff were all really nice!

My latest "Rocket" burger was comprised of broken patties covered in too much lettuce and ketchup, and the onion rings (not beer battered because they were out) were bready and unedible. We spent $30 on burgers for two, and it was just awful overall (including the static-filled country music radio station playing loudly in the background). Add to that the long waits I have ALWAYS experienced regardless of the time of day or day of week, and I'm so done with this place. I think people have some nostalgic love for The Rocket, but it's time to realize that it no longer represents good food or service in our area.
