We came here after leaving the Liberty vs JSU football game. This isn't a big establishment and it was quite busy during our visit. As a first timer, I found their menu to be slightly confusing. I ended up with the rocket burger snack ( add bacon & tomato, no rocket sauce). It came with fries. My guest had the chicken finger basket. It came with fries and you could also pick baked beans, slaw or more fries. They opted for fries and slaw. Our food took a long time but like I stated , they were veryyyyyyy busy! We enjoyed our meal pretty well. The Rocket has been around since 1958, so it was pretty cool to have visited here while in town. The menu is a little overwhelming, but the girl helping me was very nice and guided me in to great choices letting me know what was popular and what they were out of. My food was perfect and the fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside cooked fresh to order. I loved the pulled pork and the burger. And that salad was a deal! I do not understand why so many people have positive things to say about The Rocket. I've given it plenty of opportunities to impress, and it never does. My latest "Rocket" burger was comprised of broken patties covered in too much lettuce and ketchup, and the onion rings (not beer battered because they were out) were bready and unedible. We spent $30 on burgers for two, and it was just awful overall (including the static-filled country music radio station playing loudly in the background). Add to that the long waits I have ALWAYS experienced regardless of the time of day or day of week, and I'm so done with this place. I think people have some nostalgic love for The Rocket, but it's time to realize that it no longer represents good food or service in our area. read more

Consistent barbecue. Sometimes a little dry compared to other barbecue from some of my favorite locations, but you really can't go wrong with the rocket. The barbecue salads are always fantastic. read more

When we got our food it was missing all of the toppings that were included with the meal which we got 10 minutes after requesting. The service was great except the girl who took our order. I ordered the hamburger steak dinner. It didn't come with gravy. So I went to the counter and asked if they had gravy. The lady said yes the other girl reached behind and handed me a cup I thought was white gravy. So I thought to myself they must not have brown gravy. So I go put it on my steak. It was freaking ranch. I went make to the counter and told the girl and she said I thought you asked for ranch but the other girl is making the gravy now. So they said they were going to have to remake my sandwich and asked for my plate back. They took my same steak and over cooked it and put brown gravy on it. I went to take a bite and it was burnt and still tasted like ranch. Never going back. You don't take food from customer after handling it and biting off it and throw it back on a grill where you are cooking other people's food. SMH read more

Which brings me back home to 'The Rocket' Like many of you, I first ordered my 'Twin Rocket Burgers w/ Onion rings thru the drive-in phones with Eunice Marbut back in the 60's/70's... Later grew into A large cheeseburger and/or BBQ.... NOW, the UNEXPECTED... A few weeks ago, on a whim and totally Out-Of-The-Blue, I ordered their 'Rocket Dog' for the first time EVER...OMG... Heaven came down and Glory filled my soul!!! I can't stop, I try, really!!! I've always liked a good local hotdog...These are beyond 'like'....When you call in your order, go ahead & get 2, tell Patsy to Tell Gary to make 'em a little 'Dirty on Top'... After a long day we ended up here for a really, really late lunch. Sometime shortly after 4:00 this place was actually packed, to our surprise. If you look in the dictionary for Dive Diner this place could possibly be pictured. We entered to see one, less then desirable table located at the counter, With stuff over hanging into the seating area, available. We quickly grabbed menu's and sat to decide what we wanted. Kind of what you would expect for BBQ options, with some interesting combo choices. Such as the Double Hamburger. You would anticipate for the price and description a couple patties piled high between a couple buns, oh no...two complete burgers with fries. I had the BBQ chicken and my gf got the pork. Both of us thought the flavor was really good with just the right smoky goodness. The sides were pretty good and the portions were very large. Keep in mind, CASH ONLY. Thank goodness we had been to the bank and had some cash, unfortunately I don't remember if they had an ATM available inside. Good food, diner atmosphere, large portions....would be hard to find anything to complain about. This place was recommended to me by a friend recently so we wanted to check it out. It could probably be described as a dive. It's a tiny little place that's evidently been around for a really long time. They have the smoker built into the back and the whole building is made of huge rocks so it's probably impossible to expand the 10x 20 dining area. The wait for food seemed pretty long. But so many people - ourselves included now - will happily squeeze in or wait in a long line for to-go because the food is FLAT OUT DELICIOUS! My BBQ sandwich, slaw and corn nuggets were perfect. I will probably get it again next time. The boys got "twin burgers" which we thought was a double hamburger, but it was 2 actual full size burgers plus fries. They (teenage boys aka bottomless pits) could not finish their meals, and neither could I! It will be hard to choose anything else in Jville now that we have "discovered" The Rocket! read more

A referee friend told me to come here if I liked bbq before I left town. It surely did not disappoint! I had prior dinner plans so I stopped in and got a sandwich.
