I was pleasantly surprised with Copley House. It was a last minute booking because the hotel I needed to be in for a conference was full for the first day of my trip so I chose The Copley House mostly because it was near to where I needed to be and for the price which was astoundingly lower than all the other hotels in the area. I just wished I had reserved my room for my entire stay because it was so convenient, room was quaint and really comfortable, had all the amenities of home, bed was so comfortable and room temp was perfect for me...and island girl in a much colder State than I'm use to:) Staff were also very friendly and helpful. I'd come back here over all the other hotels if ever I were in the area...definitely! Loved it!!! read more

I stayed at Copley house for six nights (we were in suite 401). Great, reasonably-priced place, super central location, and nice to have the kitchenette as an option to eating out all the time. The king size bed was comfortable and supportive, the shower was spacious, and the place was clean, if a bit worn at the edges. Also, the staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. We were able to leave our luggage at the main office on the day we left to explore the city before catching a late flight home. The only caution I'd have is to be clear if you can't navigate stairs...we had a narrow steep flight down to our room, which was fine for us but might not work for everyone. read more

I loved staying in the apartment style rooms, it made me feel like I was experiencing the area more like a local! I would definitely recommend skipping your average hotel and staying here. I stood in a small studio with a kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedroom, and small patio. It was very clean and felt very homey. The only downside is parking. You have to check in in a separate building. Then, you have to drive about 5 minutes to a parking garage where you leave your car. They weren't clear on where this garage was so it took a while to find. After dropping your car off you have to walk to your building. My fiancé and I walked a good 10 minutes in 20 degree weather. That wasn't fun. Just be prepared to walk, other than that it was a wonderful stay. read more

This place is very deceiving. The pictures do not represent the apartment that you will receive. We stayed in 171 St. Botolph which is not shown in the pictures. Stairs were crooked and furniture was dated. Rooms needs a paint job some holes in the wall. No shampoo. Outdated TV. People smoking pot in the alleyways and near the car where we had to park. Did not appreciate the sketchy people lurking around our car. Giving it 2 stars for being close to the city. read more

Best thing about the hotel was the location. Close to attractions and public transportation and located in a nice neighborhood. Our room however was disappointing. Seemed like a double bed and the smallest TV I've ever seen.Very small and cramp for 2 people. Hard to maneuver around. No place to put 2 large suitcases except on the floor which made it hard to walk around. Cramped bathroom and kitchen only accommodates 1 person at a time. Stayed on the 3rd floor with no elevators and stairs were narrow and steep. Our friends stayed on the same floor with much bigger rooms and paid the same price. For the price, Copley House is a great deal and in a fabulous area. It is not your normal hotel, though. It felt more like a hostel or airbnb. When I checked in, I was told my room was down the street in another building on Garrison St. That was fine, and I was able to get in with no problem, but don't expect to be coddled in this hotel...you are kind of on your own. The staff was perfectly pleasant and professional, though. The room was big enough, had a nice kitchenette, large table to do some work, and small bathroom. The bed was nice and comfortable. My complaints is that the carpeting in my room was really, really gross. Very stained and dirty. It could certainly use at least a steam clean. Also, the volume on the remote did not work, so I could not reduce the volume of the TV (there was no button on the actual TV). That was really annoying! The room was otherwise clean enough, but certainly older. However, I would stay here again for the price. read more

My husband and I did not have a very good experience at this hotel. Parking was not available on our first night so we had to pay $42 for a lot 5 minutes away. The outside of the hotel was very charming but the inside didn't reflect this at all. The carpets up to the room were filthy and the staircase was so lopsided that we felt like it would collapse at any given moment. It appeared to be propped up by some metal pieces but did not feel safe at all. The room itself was outdated and dirty. The kitchen appeared to be from the 1970s. The floors, walls and furniture were filthy. The bathroom was probably the worst spot. We found two (not one, but TWO) used bars of soap in the shower that either the cleaning person missed, or perhaps our shower was never cleaned after the previous guests checked out. There were spots that appeared to resemble blood on the mirror. The toilet was not well-secured to the wall. In the living area the heating vent was detached from the wall. Waterfall-looking stains decorated the doors and walls. You'd have had to pay us to sit --let alone sleep-- on the sleeper couch. It was full of stains of God-knows-what. The only place that felt clean was the bed, which was very comfortable. The hotel was in a great location and less expensive than many others in the area but so not worth it. We did not feel clean the entire time there. Next time we're in Boston we will pay more to stay at a cleaner place. read more

Awesome deal. (We actually paid a little bit more than the highest rates listed on their website however I think their normal rates are the best deal in Boston). Absolutely great location. The bed is older so if you require good bed for a good night sleep and a good night sleep is necessary then you probably will not be satisified here. Also- The room does allow for temperature control (we were told that we would get another blanket but we never did). So be prepared. Because its an apartment style rental I did not assume they would come into the room for any reason. They came into our to make our bed and everything we had laid out on the bed was then messed up. be advised. The worst directions from or to anywhere. If you get directions from them- confirm with another source. Otherwise. Fantanstic deal. We did not use the kitchen or anything so I cannot comment on it. read more

What a terrible experience it was to stay at the Copley House. My wife and I picked this place as a nice little inner city getaway for Valentine's Day. The location was great, being close to a variety of restaurants and shops, all within walking distance. The design is cozy and comfortable, and the room offers just enough to feel accessible. Everything seemed perfect when we picked this place, up until the moment we actually showed up... Upon arrival, we were told that the Copley House parking was completely full. The staff informed us that we had to park at the Copley Place Central Garage (which warrants a $40 a day fee as opposed to the $15 we were told we would be paying). We shrugged off the hiked up parking fee and the walk and made our way to our room. It was absolutely FREEZING. The rooms have no way of manually adjusting temperature, so our ideal romantic evening began with us struggling to stay warm. During this time, we also found that the bathroom had not been cleaned (the wastebasket was loaded with dirty tissue and toilet paper) and some of the amenities were broken (hair dryer was dead). As the night grew colder, so did the room, so we contacted the main office to see what they could do. The staff did nothing to offer us a warmer or alternative room, nor did they have any method of increasing our room temperature. They did bring us a medium sized space heater, which after a few hours, made the room bearable, but still uncomfortably cold. We spent the rest of the night nestled under 5 layers of blankets, cancelling our evening plans and falling asleep early. This 400 sq/ft package was wrapped in a costly $140 a night fee. Not worth it at all. The Copley House would have been a wonderful summer choice for exploring Back Bay and the rest of inner city Boston, but during the winter months, this was a nightmare. Poor room temperature, overpriced booking, and a lack of affordable parking made this a total bust. read more

I was pleased with my stay here. I got one of the little studios that had a kitchenette and I thought it was perfect. The only annoying thing was that the door of the building (240 W Newton) was really sticky and hard to open from either side. My only suggestion is that they fix that. Copley House is actually 4 different buildings all within a few blocks of the Prudential Center. We stayed in their St Stephen St location. The best thing going for it is the location. It is within a few blocks of 2 T stops and several bus lines, so getting anywhere in the city is fast and easy. It's also walking distance to Fenway Park, the Fens, Newbury St, Prudential Center, Museum of Fine Arts, and lots of dining on Boylston. Now for the bad - the property is not well managed. I can overlook mismatched towels and dishes, sloppy paint work, outdated furnishings, and tiny bathrooms, but I can't overlook the easy things like cleaning the carpet (it was gross), dusting the blinds, and washing the walls. What bothered me most was that this was all easy stuff that would not take a lot of time or money to fix. Because the office is several blocks away and not manned 24 hours we felt abandoned - I mean I didn't think that calling the emergency number at 10pm because they never left a spare roll of toilet paper was worth the hassle. It was faster and easier to walk across the street to the drug store. They did manage to leave a new roll of paper towels (which we never used). The kitchenette had ever thing we needed and there are 3 grocery stores within a few blocks as well as several drug stores and convenience stores. Things they couldn't control, but you need to be aware of. You are in the middle of 5 colleges. On weekends and during ball games the neighborhood is loud and busy. There will be lots of drunken college kids wandering through the neighborhood. Hotels in Boston are on the pricey side, so this was a cheaper alternative, but you do really get what you pay for. I recommend calling and talking to someone live instead of using the Internet to get more information about the room, location, and amenities before making reservations. The other properties may be in better shape and farther away from the noise and traffic. read more

I've been traveling to Boston for work for about seven years now and have experienced I wide range of AirBnB's and hotels. This one was the worst by far. Woke up to a mouse running over my legs and yet another scampering over my luggage. They did refund a night and move us to another room, but for the premium you pay to stay, the concern and hospitality they showed was underwhelming to say the least. My sense was that management is doing the minimum to collect the $150-250/night. Sofas and rugs have stains on them. The fold out beds shouldn't really be advertised. They're a piece of thin foam set over a couple thick bars. And despite some newer appointments the interiors are generally a bit worse for wear. Like Daniel G., I also experienced some temperature extremes in the room. There are comparably-priced and much nicer options with the same convenience to Boston attractions without the aggravation and lack of quality you might get here. read more

I stayed at Copley House in a studio apartment. This was my first visit to Boston. Copley House is in an ideal location with an easy walk to all the main sites of Boston. You can be in the North End in less than half an hour, Fenway Park was less than 25 minutes for me. There is a nice little park across the street, so the rooms that face West Newton street get lots of light and it's a great place to take a bag lunch. There is a Whole Foods less than 15 minutes walking distance away and lots of other retail and dining opportunities. I fell in love with the city and with Copley House. The staff is very welcoming and goes out of their way to make sure all is well. It's not fancy, but clean, comfortable and well maintained and it fits the budget conscious. I would stay here again and certainly recommend to all. read more

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL! WHERE does one begin? Okay-ish staff, just all young and clearly not seasoned in the hospitality business. Linda, was rude and condescending and I had told her I would write a review on her performance on Yelp. The rooms were disusing to say the least, and like every other review you've read on here, mice in the kitchen constantly. Not sure why this continues to happen, hire some serious sort of exterminators. Resolve this issue! It shouldn't be happening. No elevators by the way, no bell boy, no one to help with bags, staff kinda just points you to your direction and that's about it. When asked about the neighborhood, no one seems to know anything and hands you a paper map... I mean really? We all have phones, I wanted personal opinions. Rooms are old, and unsafe. I'm a Massachusetts resident myself and though am aware that Back Bay is pristine, one just never knows. Parking always seems to be 'full', you would think by now they would update this method. And then like other reviews have mentioned, they escort you to a $40 night garage. The rooms are either freezing or a blazing inferno.. there's no in between. Sheets were dirty, felt like pillows were used before, staff does little to none appeasing. Just for the price you pay here $140-240, please do yourself a favor and come up with a few extra bucks for a REAL HOTEL, not 'fully furnished apartments that operate like a hotel' -- LAME. read more

They have tried to update this brownstone...but we were on the third floor (had to carry our own bags up & down) the air was just window unit was not turned on till we did on are arrival ..took 2days to cool down..that after we asked them to look at unit. From the first moment we walked into The Copley House, we were greeted by Edwin and his partner. They were accommodating, informative, and friendly. This apartment/hotel was super clean, comfortable (The bed was amazing. We wanted to take it home with us.). It was in a great location. We walked everywhere. We stayed here for a few reasons. First of all, it was rather affordable. It was in a good location, many popular Boston sites are within walking distance or if not there's a train stop very close. And lastly, as someone who travels for work, staying somewhere that felt a bit homey greatly appealed to me versus spending the night at another hotel. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The room was the perfect size for two people. It did feel cozy and homey with hardwood floors and crown molding. It's on a beautiful, quiet street lined with brownstone buildings. We felt safe walking around the area, even at night. I really only had two complaints. The bathroom was incredibly tiny and desperately in need of a remodel. I didn't even want to stand bare foot on the tile or in the shower. The second is communicating with the hotel staff. Everyone from the front desk staff to the room cleaners were European (French I believe?) and did not speak English very well. I had trouble communicating with the front desk when I called the hotel upon arrival into Boston, when I checked in, and then there was some sort of mix up and cleaning ladies kept coming to our room to try to clean it on our first day there. Everyone was nice, I just never expected to have an issue communicating with an entire hotel staff at an American hotel. read more

Stayed 2 nights this past weekend for Extreme Beer Fest. Overnight staff was so nice and helpful that when we arrived at 1230 am and asked (knowing full well the answer would be no cause it is first come first served) if their garage had any open spots they found us the closest cheapest garage online to send us to. That's above and beyond. Other than that we had no need to interact with staff since we had no issues or complaints. The room was small in size with a queen bed, a bedside chair on one side and a night stand on the other, and a table with two chairs to eat/drink/work at. The tv was mounted above this table and had directv. There was also free wifi. There was a dual burner hot plate, a toaster oven (which came in very handy post beer fest,) a microwave, and a mini fridge. The cabinets were stocked with wine glasses, regular glasses, mugs, plates, bowls, etc. There was also a little coffee machine on the counter next to the "kitchen" sink. Bathroom sink was pretty cool. It was just a giant glass bowl, basically. Water pressure in the shower was fine, had hot water for both of us to shower. We really had zero issues and would definitely stay there again. I really liked how it feels like you're staying at a friend's guest room as opposed to a hotel. Only problem was parking but that's Boston, not them. Oh, and did I mention it was a lot cheaper than the Sheraton and Hilton and other hotels within a few blocks? read more

Newton right across the street from the main office, The Studio looked just like it did on the images from trip advisor, We got room 603 (basement), We were pleasantly surprised to find the room not too tight but "cosy", It was neat and clean and adequate to our needs. *note. On a night with 10 degree temps outside the place was warm and welcoming...BONUS...Heated shower floor, also...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION...We'll most definitely stay here again on our return trip this coming April. read more

The setup was a little different than what we were used to, but that was quickly forgotten as we got settled into our rooms. The room was spacious and had a kitchenette with a fridge, stove and microwave. The only negative was having a room on the top (4th) floor and no elevator. But, the price and value made up for it! At first glance, these suites seem well done. After a few days, the poor construction and dated interior gets old. Entrance doors don't seal properly and hallway noise is disturbing. Also, these rooms were renovated with little insulation between floors so walking and water flushing/running from above is extremely audible. Also, the cleaning staff is not thorough and beds sheets are not replaced frequently enough over long term stays. Two burners were faulty on my stove and my hair dryer did not work. Biggest irritation: NO LAUNDRY FACILITIES IN BUILDING. They offer one washer and dryer for all their buildings, located in the basement of one building blocks away. Unacceptable. For an overnight stay, it's probably fine but not for long term..... read more

Great idea for accommodation: guest houses with in-room kitchenettes in Back Bay. I thought the room itself was ok and spacious for the price. Clean. Didn't like street floor level. Ask for a room above the ground if you want to have a window that opens. Common interior was kind of shabby but room itself was ok. Desk clerks were very nice. read more

It's hard not to give this property another star. Let's say three and a half then. Five star location. Five star managers and staff. But definitely not a five star facility. To be fair, I have to mention that mine was one of many rooms spread over three or four different townhouse-looking buildings in a great, South end neighborhood that make up The Copley House. My rooms were clean, the bath was small but functional and the bed was fairly comfortable. But we were in the basement (101), there was a stuffy odor (mostly from the carpet that needed cleaning) and it was across the hall from the main housekeeping facility. It really wasn't terrible but I have no doubt that there are nicer rooms in this menagerie than the suite I had. There might be worse, also. But if you think you might enjoy a non-corporate, bygone era atmosphere and can be a little flexible with your expectations, you might find a gem in this value-priced, friendly, non-hotel hotel. Look at the web sight, read some reviews and give it a try. At the very least you'll meet some great folks. read more

I booked my room at Copley House on booking.com. I then received the email I'll post below. They held the money in my account 3 days prior to my stay and then released it. When I arrived at the hotel, I was told I could not check in with out a credit card (which it states no where on that email). I did not have one there for I was not able to stay there. Now, I understand policies but the way the staff handled my situation was unprofessional and rude. They basically said "all well". I began to explain to them that I was 5 hours from home, and had tickets to a game at Fenway park. I needed some place to stay. The horrible, nasty assistant manager gave me so much attitude acting as though it was my fault, when it clearly does not state that on the confirmation email they sent me. The other decent staff member helped me look at a map to where other hotels are but if it was up to the nasty assistant manager I would have been out the door on my own. I eventually found a room up the street at the Sheraton for only $8 more that had beautiful views up on the 25th floor. This is little mishap almost ruined my otherwise amazing site seeing day. My advise, skip this trashy place and stay in the place that can at least afford to have a system that can take a debit card and doesn't promote people to assistant manager who clearly have no people skills and doesn't know how to treat willing customers. Copley House Is NOT a SAFE PLACE to stay, I booked due to location . on 4/2-4/5. 1st I was unable to get into my room which was not even at the address that is on the website. My room was 3blocks down from actual address from website. I had a late check in, very late check in!! and upon arriving a man let me in knowing my access code to get into the apartment building??? I thought he was maintenance. finally getting in at 5am , now its Saturday. Finally in my room, I took a nap , my 2 friends and I, we organized our luggage and room went out for a Saturday evening dinner, gone for 2.5 hrs and entering our room we notice our luggages were opened and clothes all over the room???? we called front desk and with no concern, all they said was sorry we have NO other rooms available. I called Boston Police to make a report , we only had a few dollars missing . police recommended we find another room , which we did at midnight. Copley House did not seem to care to check on us nor help us. we didn't even get a full refund ??? Someone in that build has a key to get into the rooms. read more
