I ordered the curry chicken Philly Cheesecake . Wow, chicken spiced and cooked to perfection . The bun wasn't hard and chewy but baked to perfection . Even the croutons on the Caesar salad melted in your mouth with just the right amount of crispness and the ceasar dressing was exceptional. The sandwich is a full foot long as advertised and really delicious. My wife had the vegetable stir fry with chicken added, she said it was very tasty and the portion size was generous. Our server Amelia was awesome and took great care of us . We will definitely be back next time we are in PEI read more

I hesitated on the third star but super friendly service and decent drink menu saved them... Here's the deal, Hunters to me feels like a very cookie cutter menu from the island group they belong under with pub food that is very underwhelming. Service is very friendly and accommodating but also super duper slow, was here in a Sunday at dinner time and took over an hour for food to come out. The food really is not anything great, it is a MASSIVE menu and I'm sure there are really great things on there but what we ordered just was not anything special by a landslide. Ordered a hunters size greek salad which is large yes but simple iceberg and olives with peppers and tomato with a small sprinkle of feta. It does the job for a mediocre Greek salad. The Greek nachos did not have NEARLY enough toppings and though this may be on us for ordering the nachos that had "lite" beside the name, they felt so dry and just like they took chips from a bag and dumped the mediocre Greek salad on top. They were not hot and not enough cheese. These should come with at least some more tomatoes, a drizzle of tatziki or some seasoning! Also got plain poutine which we had to send back because it was not even hot, they were awesome and replaced it right away without a question but after waiting an hour for food was kind of under the impression this was sitting around.... Lastly got mussels, again mediocre, 1.5lbs is not a lot and there are definitely more flavourful places to get seafood in the island. In summary, yep was disappointed in this meal. Hunters is definitely a fun vibe and great place to get drinks and maybe some snack/fried food appetizers but honestly I probably wouldn't go back for that. A no frills slightly-dive bar that was the only place open at near midnight for food. It's the kind of place that feels like everything is a little sticky from beer and time. We ordered the Hunter's philly cheesesteak to go. It was a good 15 minute wait for the food but we were entertained by the live singer doing covers on the stage. The sandwich turned out more impressive than anticipated. Plenty of steak and a well toasted bun. Even the two mounds of mash potatoes were not bad after some liberal addition of pepper. My friend and I both got a rancid taste from a piece of steak which was the dinner special. The waitress stated they had rancid meat from their last order but thought the latest would be fine. Not so much. We weren't charged for the meals but were for our sodas. The manager should have at least come and spoke to us. What to say about my experience here ? Well for starters I wish I could give a rating of zero not just one because that's how awful and unpleasant it was. For starters my glass of white wine none the less came out to me warm. I did not like it but my Mom liked it so she drank it while I ordered a new drink. When we ordered our food there is a section called "favorites" where all of the food items under it get unlimited soup and salad as well as a side with it. While we were waiting for our food I was getting g hungry. Eventually the food came with my side and I asked the waitress where my soup and salad was as if was supposed to be "unlimited" and she said oh did you not know.. there is a salad bar inside that you serve at. She didn't even apologize she just assumed I knew and didn't bother to tell me. The meal that I ordered from under favorites was halibut. The halibut was burnt and cold when it came out to me so all I ate was my baked potato because that was the best part. Not only that the description of the meal said it was served with dill sauce on it ... well the sauce tasted like butter and no dill. I couldn't even eat it so all I ate was the baked potatoes. How do you mess up halibut on the east coast??? Just look at the pictures. Next, my Mom got a lobster roll.. it was served on a dry hot dog bun! Only half of the hot dog bun was then filled with lobster and mayo filling! It was awful! How do you mess up a lobster roll on the east coast??? Lastly, my grandma got a potato burger off the menu which sounded interesting to begin with but the mashed potatoes on the side were dry. This was the worst restaurant of my trip that I tried and it is my advice that anyone else who visits here does not waste a day of their vacation here- there are much better restaurants ! read more

I had supper this evening at Hunter's Ale House. I sat on the patio. I spent last week in Charlottetown and it was cold and rainy ... so nice that it was warm and sunny this evening. Though there were a couple interesting beer on tap (like Barking Squirrel and Sam Adams), I was surprised they didn't have more draughts available than Canadian, Coors Light, Rickard's, Heineken, etc. since they have "ale" in the name of the restaurant. The menu has a lot of variety and it was hard to decide. I ordered wings with Thai sauce. They were just frozen battered wings (I'm not a fan of battered wings) ... nothing special. Their description set my expectations pretty high. I wish I'd ordered something else. I was still a bit hungry so ordered dessert. Allie, my server, recommended the chocolate eruption cake. When I think of Hunters ale house only three words come to mind. GOD DAMN DELICIOUS! I visited on a brisk autumns evening, and was cold upon arrival. As the temperature dropped it made me more critical towards the restaurant. However, the waitress quickly lifted my mood with her unbelievable ability to sway a crowd of hungry humans. She was quick to take orders and was extremely polite. We waited around a half hour for our "Mars attack" burgers to come and did they ever pull through. A succulent burger loaded with delightful toppings, a homemade bun and all topped off with a deep fried mars bar for dessert. A wonderful showing in this years "burger love" competition, sure to finish high on the leaderboard. Overall I would recommend this incredible, indulgent experience to anyone. read more

It's been a good 7/8 years since I've been back to this spot in the hub of Charlottetown and it will probably be my last. We arrived on the Friday of the long weekend and dropped in here for supper, they weren't too busy and it was easy to grab a seat on the patio which was nice, unfortunately that was the only positive to this dinner. I ordered the Greek nachos, because I loved the toppings I figured this was a good start. For some reason they advertise them on the 'healthier' items list on the menu, just because it's Greek toppings on nachos doesn't make a menu item 'healthier' They used basic corn chips that can be found at a grocery store and there was barely any cheese. I also ordered waters and a non spicy caeser when we sat down and she forgot both and the caeser was too spicy when she did bring the drink, luckily she took it off our bill. All in all, it was a very poor experience for such a tourist area of Charlottetown, we attempted another one of the hunters corner restaurants another night and once again.. another let down. read more

This is the place to go if you you're starving and looking for huge portions of food and beer. I ordered the fried scallops and shrimp with mashed potatoes and expected maybe a mound or two of the spuds but got 4 scoops! My friend got the same so I knew they didn't make a mistake. The menu is very long, so the only problem here might be deciding what you'd like to eat. We took a long time to decide because there were so many tasty-sounding dishes there. The draft beer comes in a few different sizes and they have a selection of bottled beers too. I've been coming to this place since I moved to the island in September. I'm a frequent flyer and typically find myself showing up on a Wednesday night for the half price appies and pitchers, which is a great deal if I do say so myself, and a great way to bring a crowd in. Overall, the restaurant itself is nice. The servers are always kind and personable and I never have to wait very long, whether I am waiting for food or for my bevvies. It's usually pretty busy any time I go, so it's awesome that the service is so quick. However, the chicken wings. Something has to be said about these chicken wings. At glance, these wings look amazing. They're a great size, sauced or spiced so well, and fried perfectly. They taste even better than they look. I can honestly say these are some of the best wings I have ever had. This being said, looks and taste can be deceiving. These same wings that were soo good the night before, always have me fighting for my LIFE on the porcelain the next morning. At first, I thought this might just be me, and so I thought, well, it must only be the dill pickle wings, as those are the only wings I had tried. Therefore, I decided to take a stab at the honey garlic wings instead. But, again, that next Thursday morning, I was at war with the wings and the toliet bowl. So, I thought to myself, is it just me? This led to me asking around within my friend group. I quickly came to realize, this is not just a dill pickle issue, and it's definitely not just a me issue. ALL of my friends are left shaking and sweating every Thursday morning after a Hunter's night. Obviously we continue to go and continue to eat these wings because they are so damn delicious. But, anyone who plans on going out for half priced appies and has a shift scheduled for Thursday morning, think twice because the toliet bowl is where you'll be spending your 8 hour shift remaking Willy Wonka's chocolate river. You order chicken wings, but what they don't tell you, is that you also won the golden ticket. Nonetheless, I enjoy this restaurant. The other food I have had has never left me feeling this way and I have tried many items off the menu. One of the things I like the most about this place is its late night hours. They'll serve food until midnight and drinks until 2am, which is not overly common on the island. We generally end up here if work brings us in late since they are almost no options past 11pm. Live music is played here some nights of the week and although it can get a little loud, it's nice to hear local bands. Also, since Hunter's is one of the only places open so late you can sometimes get the drunks late at night but the place is pretty good about keeping them in check or throwing them out. Food is good, reasonably priced and tasty. Beer selection is decent as well. Staff are excellent, friendly and accommodating. I can't imagine it's easy to work in such a loud, busy place sometimes. Great choice in general for food and drink and especially a great choice for late night. read more

We found ourselves in downtown Charlottetown hungry and in need of a patio on a warm summer evening in July. Hunter's fit the bill in every single way. The service was prompt and helpful and the food was absolutely perfect - both in portion size, value for the money spent and in flavour. Be warned though - everything is "super sized" here :-) Case in point: 1) my "large" draft beer could have easily been a pitcher elsewhere and 2) the "cup" of chowder is an overflowing bowl elsewhere My dining companion ordered the seafood chowder and raved at how full of seafood it was and how tasty it was. They also ordered the sweet potato fries which was a huge basket of them. Sadly the chowder was so filling not many of the fries were consumed. I ordered the butter chicken which came served over basmati rice with naan AND a side order of fries. Absolutely delicious! There was absolutely no room for dessert after a meal of this size and we left wishing we could eat every meal there on our trip. read more

Had a great experience. Our server (Mere) was a total sweetheart, service is fast and portions are priced accordingly (huge portions, low prices). We ended to coming on wing night ($0.25/wing!) and while the price was great, the wings were puny. Next time I'd go for the $0.40 option, but we were so hungry we just went with the price that was on the sign. Overall, great time, good vibe. It gets an okay. (Okay is a 5 on my scale of 1 to 10.) I felt the place was dirty, the waitresses clothes were badly splattered as if there had been no change of uniform for a couple of days. If the clothes are dirty what does it say about the kitchen? Our stir fry featured 5 scallops and 5 shrimp, I think everything had been frozen 20 minutes earlier. The local beer (an IPA) was tasty but the large serving a bit too much. But that's a matter of preference I suppose. read more
