If you are on I-40 near Marion, NC, stop in for a sample. They have regular moonshine flavors, apple pie, grape, chocolate and oatmeal cookie. My favorites are the chocolate (mixes well with Screwball), apple pie (IKR?), and my new favorite OATMEAL COOKIE!!!!! The owners are fabulous and will gladly give you a tour. We make the 2 hour trip up to refill our stash every couple of months.

Me and my sister having a great time with Randy.

I have been on a bourbon kick lately. On my way to Asheville for a weekend trip, I stopped by to…read morevisit South Mountain Distilling. Donald Smith was super nice and gave us the overview of his family history in distilling. We tasted 3 whiskey's that he produced, the Sinister, Dignified, and Cherry Bounce. These are either family recipes or in the case of Cherry Bounce a famous recipe of Amos Owens who bought/owned Cherry Mountain. I bought 1 bottle each mainly to just support him and his vision for making great whiskey. It is tough to get started in this business, since you need to age the whiskey for years. I think Sinister was aged just 2.5 years, Dignified 3.5 and can't recall on Cherry Bounce. Don also showed us Old Bessie the still he designed. Its a great visit and worth stopping in to see on your way down I40.

What a great locally family owned distillery! Not only do they have very good quality liquor (…read morewhiskey, rum and a moonshine) Owners Don, his Mom and Wife along with David "Doc" , are really down to earth friendly people that will gladly give you the family history on moonshining. Everything is done in this one building, the mash, the brew and the bottling. It's also a nice gift shop that sells shirts, hats, glass wear, canned goodies like jams and sauces. They offer tours and tastings for $10. It was really cool being able to see the mash cooking away. What other Distillery can you do that at? One thing that is an absolute thing to do, is they have a program where you can do your own bottle. They show you ( and you do the work) from start to finish until you have bottled your own liquor with your name on the bottle.

After years of Dalton Distillery being open, I finally made it a point to go try it out for a…read morepre-dinner drink. When I entered the establishment I was wowed at how cool the space is, I had no idea and honestly didn't have high expectations. The bar is decorated really cool with geometric wall designs and a giant hexagonal opening leading from one room to the other. Dalton Distillery also has Ping-Pong, a pool table, and video games. I had no idea. As I walked in, I was immediately curious as to how this place isn't more popular. There is plenty of seating with lots of chairs and a few couches. The Distillery is decorated with some cool furniture too and has some colorful graffiti murals. I am a very visual person and this place was surprisingly awesome inside. I'd love to come back with a group of friends for some Ping-pong and pool games! I was very happy to hear that my bourbon and gingers were only $4, a great deal that is a rarity in/near downtown Asheville. My friend ordered some of their housemade rum in a cocktail that neither of us enjoyed, but they have a pretty good beer selection so he left happy anyway. Overall this place was great and I can't wait to check it out again. I had to give Dalton Distillery 4 stars rather than 5 because the bartender was very unfriendly. I asked him many questions about the rum. I was very interested considering that they are a distillery and that is what they make, but he seemed annoyed by my questions and barely answered them. He talked to me in a way that was very arrogant and dismissive. I'd like to hope that next time I go in there is a different bartender or he has a better demeanor. Servers and bartenders play the role of being the face/representative of an establishment and for my first experience being here, there was not a good representation.

The name of this place is deceiving. It seems like a place to get cocktails but really it's a dive…read morebar- definitely wasn't what I thought it was. Others places to go rather than here

Booked a private cocktail class where we got to learn all about the history of Cultivated…read moreCocktails, the liquors that they distill, and their partnerships within the community, all while sipping on samples of their liquors! We were able to sample 4 liquors and 4 liqueur. For the liquors, we samples rum, two types of gin, and vodka. All had high ABVs but the rum and vodka had very light flavors without the usual bite at the end! Their regular gin had a strong juniper taste, while their Shades of Rose Gin carried a lighter, fruitier taste. For Liqueurs, we were able to sample their Appalachian Aperetif, Ginger Cordial, Creme de Cacao, and Coffee Liqueur. My top three were the Shades of Rose Gin, the Ginger Cordial, and the Coffee Liqueur. After choosing our top three samples, our mixologist made us three half cocktails from our selections. The class was amazing, the drinks were amazing, and our mixologist was amazing! The cost of the class was $30 per person.

The owners and staff were so welcoming--I walked in a stranger and left feeling like a friend. I only wish I didn't live all the way in Indiana because this would absolutely be my go-to place. Highly recommend the Caprese flatbread and the Morning After drink, both were so delicious!
