The food was pretty good, Very expensive. I had a strawberry margarita, it was horrible. Tasted like salt and no strawberry. Sent it back and got an ameretta sour. Just tasted like the sour mix. When in Abilene for a special occasion we make sure to come to Copper Creek. We always have a nice meal and the service is great.

Shrimp appetizers were good. Stuffed jalapeños were good. Mashed potatoes were good. The crab cakes were fishy. When sent back for chef to taste, chef's response was it was ok. Being in the seafood distribution industry for over 20 years, crab was not good. Had Wagyu Ribeye, Maybe 1/4 Akaushi Wagyu, or it was mixed up in the kitchen with regular ribeye. Not impressed. Also have difficulty with rare cooking. Prices were reasonable and wait service was good. Management was adequate. Beehive is a much better option for steak. read more

This is a somewhat unusual review. I have difficulty hearing in crowds, so I had requested a quiet booth. Their booths are tall And help shut out ambient sounds. We arrived at 7:11 for a 7:15 reservation. Several folks were being seated and we were told it would be 10 minutes. No big problem. We were seated about 15 minutes - in the bar. Not exactly the quietest location. I mentioned it to the person seating us and he said they were busy and it was the only spot they had. We tried to tough it out, but the bar became more noisy as more people gathered and many were standing talking to others. Sorry - but when I make a reservation and I'm going to spent a couple hundred for dinner - I don't want to eat in the bar. So, I walked around to the dining room and there were open tables and the threesome that came in after us with no reservation were seated at a quiet table. So, I spoke to a guy that seemed to be the manager and explained that really wasn't acceptable. Neither of us were very pleasant. I went back and sat down, trying my best to hear my wife and sister-in-law over the increasing din. In a few moments he came to the booth and asked, not very politely it seemed if we could talk. I said sure and followed him. I realized we were going outside, so I instinctively began to asses. I was not carrying, not that I would shoot a person over a disagreement; but if he wanted to fight a gun to the nose usually removes that desire. I'm thinking that I'm 71 and my last fight was about 50 years ago when two guys jumped me coming back from Mexico, but I think I can take this guy. He turned as soon as we were out the door and apologized for the misunderstanding on seating and he would be happy to move us to a quiet booth. He/they did and our meal was super pleasant. My wife had blackened redfish and she said it was good. My sister-in-law had salmon and she said it was very good. I had prime rib. I'm not a huge prime rib person, but it sounded good. I would say it was as good as I have ever had. Lots of fat, but that's expected and it was huge with great flavor. I would do that again. This could have been a bad night and I would never go back; but thanks to Alex, the manager, and our servers at both tables it was an excellent evening. Came here by way of a recommendation from a coworker. The place was excellent and the service was great! Matt our waiter took great care of us. We had the calamari, fried cactus and coconut shrimp for appetizers and they were very tasty. For dinner, I had the waygu steaks and garlic mashed potatoes for dinner and it was awesome. Back in my sales days this was a great place to entertain doctors. Not super-premium prices but well above the average Abilene eatery. Great aged steaks including Wagyu options. I am trying to eat lighter these days so I'm looking at seafood. I decided to go with the Mahi, though the cedar plank salmon also enticed me. Excellent choice! It had almost raw spinach leaves as a counterpoint to the savory cream sauce. I detected a little spice in the buttery sauce that did not overpower the delicate Mahi. A really nicely envisioned & executed dish! My service was a little slow at the bar but this is a dining experience, not a quick meal. Well run. The managers engage the guests and asked for feedback. That's why Cooper Creek is thriving. My expense account allows $50 for dinner. With one large beer I should get under the wire. Went here to have a nice meal and my steak came out way over cooked. They did make me a new one which was better. My problem is that I have high blood pressure and, after eating here, my blood pressure skyrocketed and I was shaking. I have never experienced anything like that before. I ordered a steak medium rare and when it came out and I cut into it, it was rare. They took the steak back to the kitchen and threw it back on the grill. When they brought the steak back out it was medium rare, but the outside was burnt tasting. Absolutely expect better from a restaurant of this caliber. Texans may claim to do everything bigger and better than the rest of our fair nation but two things I think they may have truly excelled in is their FOOD and Hospitality! Copper Creek was our choice for lunch and our mission was to try 'Real Texas Steer at a real Texas Steakhouse'. For those of you who have read any of my previous posts, you may have noticed my hubby and I are Steak freaks - we love a great steak. All I can say is 'thank you Yelpers' we have had a top notch experience here at Copper Creek. First of all this is not a new restaurant but it is so immaculately clean you would think they just opened the doors last week! Not a spec of dust anywhere! Impressive in a rich steakhouse with a fireplace and leather, with mounts and dried arrangements! We ordered Ribeyes, loaded mashed potatoes and wilted spinach, a side order of salmon stuffed mushrooms completed our main course. It arrived and the aroma arrested our conversation, the steaks were cooked to perfection, the sautéed spinach wasn't soggy and the potatoes were so good my Father in Law said he preferred them to plain ol' mashed taters! He also, my FIL, asked for Heinz 57 to go with his steak at which point we talked him into trying it without and sure enough he never took one scoop of it he was so impressed. My husband and I both agreed this was the second best steak we have ever had! NY Prime being our Gold Standard. Well done Copper Creek. We took advantage of the free dessert offer and went with Grandma's Almond Praline! Holy Moley! To die for! Can't say enough other than it was the perfect ending to a perfectly delightful lunch. I would be remiss if I didn't recognize our waiter, Michael! Copper Creek, you are extremely fortunate to have a waiter of this man's caliber. Efficient, professional, knowledgeable and quite honestly when we found out he had only been here a year we were shocked. Michael takes care of his guests like the owners themselves would! Food was 5 stars, service not so much. Hard to believe such a great restaurant has poor service. The steak was cooked to perfection, soup was homemade and bread was hot and fresh. The server was scarce - didn't offer any suggestions and when I asked what she liked on the menu she had no clue. Abilene was a stop on our cross-country journey in our motorhome. My wife asked me to find a nice restaurant for our "date night". After looking at the reviews, I chose Copper Creek and couldn't have been happier. From the moment we came in until the time we left, we were treated specially... courteously, thoughtfully, humorously and attentively. Our server, Riley, was a delight. He was happy to make suggestions and was very knowledgeable of the menu. On his suggestion, we started with the Jalapeno Poppers stuffed with goat cheese. They were very tasty! My wife had the Blackened Texas Red Fish with crawfish & lump crab sauce and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the Ribeye steak medium-rare and it was cooked to perfection. Very tasty and complemented well with the garlic mashed potatoes. During our dinner, the Manager Mark came by to say hi and hear about our trip. It was so nice of him to take time to meet us and hear about our trip. Well Yelp had the hours wrong I showed up at 9:40 after a 2.5 hour drive only to find out they close at 10:00 pm and Yelp showed them closing at 11:00 PM. They insisted I sit and stay. So I did and let me tell you the salad was amazing. The lobster bisque was amazing. The filet was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The calamari and cactus appetizer was mediocre at best. 40 minutes after app was finished server informed us that 1 side we ordered( grilled Portobello) wasn't available. 10 minutes taterr food finally arrived. Mahi Mahi cooked until dry, prime rib so tough that my son had to saw thru it and stone cold and beef medallions were mealy and also cold. And to top the evening off our server copped a serious attitude when I voiced my concerns. My fault for going somewhere other than Perrini Ranch for a special meal. Won't make that mistake again. Do to COVID and a variety of circumstances, this ended up being the place my wife and I ate for our 10th anniversary. Well, we actually got it take out and ended up eating in the parking lot. While COVID put a damper on the aesthetics of our date night, the food was actually really good. The prime rib sandwich was EXCELLENT and my wife enjoyed her dish as well. The fries/chips were great. The food isn't cheap, but it's not exorbitantly expensive, and is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We like Copper Creek though I'm not a fan of their pricing for dinner (I also don't find the consistency "there" during dinner service for whatever reason) and prefer it for lunch. Recently my daughter and I shared their pot-stickers (actually deep-fried dumplings) which were tasty and went well with our drinks which I can't recall the name of; some sort of blueberry mojito thing (that was a bit too sweet for our tastes). She had the Creek Cheeseburger and polished it off quickly, saying it was cooked perfectly, juicy, and the fries (also on my shrimp plate) were fantastic. My shrimp was lightly battered and lightly fried, and a surprise to be honest. We visit Galveston frequently and I'm pretty much a shrimp snob - these were definitely up to par with the distinct "snap" of fresh gulf shrimp. I should also mention that their bread is divine and tipped this review to 4 stars along with our capable and friendly server's attention. Nice lunch, nice atmosphere, wish they'd up their chardonnay by the glass game, but if you're looking for a "nice" lunch for two in the $60 range with two cocktails, you could do worse. read more
