First time and we were out for a special occasion. First we stood at the front desk for more than 3 minutes with no one to greet us (it was not busy). The hostess finally showed up. During that time several servers in the bar look at us and just went back to whatever. When we ordered we let our server know my wife had gluten allergies. She did not notice the special (seafood extravaganza) had fried squash, so when it arrived we had to send it back. Then our server told us the scampi sauce also had gluten. We have dined here maybe 3-4 times since living in Abilene. It is expensive but I do come back because the lobster bisque is really good to me and my husband. The last time I went me and my husband shared the grilled Cesar salad. Last time it was still crispy but the most recent the lettuce had some soggy parts like it was cooked too long. I wish there was a little more flavor to the salad since it is grilled and can have a really overpowering burn flavor. The steak I had was cooked great no complaints there. I had the 10oz filet Oscar style. And the mashed potatoes. The potatoes I wish were more creamy. It is so stiff in my opinion. My husband had the bleu cheese bacon burger with no bun and enjoyed it. I had a chicken fried chicken. Juicy, tender. Gravy came in a bowl, just the right thickness for a cream gravy. Garlic mashed potatoes. All was seasoned well. Portions were larger then I could eat, and I had to have a togo box. My honey had the prime rib sandwich which came with home made house chips. These were amazing. Beautiful restaurant. Server was a sweet young lady. Wife and I shared a Caesar salad which was ok. My blackened redfish was very poor. I think the recipe was probably good but there was terrible execution. Blackened apparently meant burned to a charred crisp. Wife's chicken and my fish were lukewarm at best. My second experience here was not the best. I was extremely disappointed by the ribeye, it was tuff and over cooked. The steak fries were soggy. Truffle butter was not good. The truffle fries were soggy and cold, like they had been out for a while. The short rib and bone marrow was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked. The service was amazing as usual. Abilene's fine dining with a classy western feel. I would give them 5 stars, but the pricing is quite high while the service can be incredibly iffy at times. I love how flavorful their calamari is as well their coconut shrimp. Came here to eat for lunch! Staff was very friendly. Calamari - This came with fried calamari, fried cactus, and marinara sauce for dipping. It was cooked well where the batter was crispy and the meat was not too chewy. However, it was a bit too salty. Salmon - This was delicious! Cooked perfect, the sauce complimented the fish, and the rice was a nice addition. Chicken Fried Chicken - This was still moist and the batter was very crunchy. The mash had great flavor but not as "soft and creamy" like I am used to. Almond Praline Pie - This came on top of dried ice so it was smoking. Very cool! It was like a frozen cheesecake texture but it wasn't cheesecake. We really enjoyed this dessert. The crust was so good! We would be back to try other dishes. read more

Been here many times. I come for the lobster bisque which is the closest I've ever had to replicating Pappadeaux. Atmosphere: Upscale and classy. Hammered copper tables are the spotlight of the dining fare. Perfect lighting. I can't stress that enough. Dim enough to set the mood but with plenty of light to see your menu and your meal. It is West Texas themed with many well done taxidermy animals. 1 Star Service: Service was good. We had a reservation and when we arrived it was busy and we were immediately sat at our table. Service was prompt. Only downside will be discussed in the next section. 1 Star Food: As mentioned above, I go for the lobster bisque, which BTW, has been much improved. Whereas before it was rare to get more than 1or 2 small pieces of lobster, both of our bowls were chock full of big lobster chunks. It was top-notch and the highlight of the meal. My date ordered her usual, which was the stuffed chicken. It is always prepared well and she was happy with it, albeit the broccolini was considerably undercooked. I ordered the Prime Rib, baked potato, and grilled portobello. After about 5 minutes our waitress returned to inform me that they were out of baked potatoes. This is a steak place. You simply can't run out of potatoes on a Friday night at 6:45pm. It's blasphemy in a well established Texas restaurant. I could see it if there was a shortage, but we are not in a potato drought. They are readily available at each of the local grocery stores. Of course the biggest mistake is offering no explanation. Regardless, I changed my order. I just settled for the newest item on the menu which was the Double C Meatballs, which came with angel hair pasta and a mushroom ragout. The take on the meatballs was unique and unexpected. They were fried in a "chicken fried" type breading and made for a tasty surprise. It was unexpected and welcome. The rest of the dish however, consisted of enough angel hair pasta to feed 4 people. The mushroom "ragout," however would have made McCormick proud. Not only was there only enough to cover about 1/4 of the pasta but it had very few mushrooms and tasted remarkably like a package of mushroom gravy mix. I hate to be so harsh, but I am always honest in my opinions. I only ate about 4-5 bites of the pasta and ragout and about 3 meatballs. When the waitress came to remove our appetizer bowls, my date was still enjoying her meal. The waitress noticed that I appeared to be done eating and still had a plate full of food. She asked if I didn't enjoy my meal, to which I honestly explained I wasn't very fond of it. She said, she was sorry, and that was that. My date and I enjoyed some conversation for a bit and then we received our check. There was no visit from a manager to maybe offer any kind of explanation on how they could have possibly erred on the potatoes and definitely no attempt to reconcile the poor meal I had received. So I paid the bill and left a very complimentary tip (it was not our waitress' fault they didn't have baked potatoes and she didn't cook my meal) and we left. I'm not one to ask to speak to management about an issue like this. I feel it's their responsibility to make an effort to inform their customers when poor inventory issues arise or to try and offer some sort of recompense. 1 Star Overall: Much improved lobster bisque, tasty meatballs, and nice hostess and waitress. Management was all but missing along with all the baked potatoes. Wished I could have knocked this review out of the park, but I can't under these circumstances give more than 3 stars. read more

Copper Creek is simply one of the best restaurants in West Texas. The staff is excellent, the menu is first rate and the chefs, particularly Jeremiah, are the best. The wine list is also marvellous. The new Social Hour, instigated by Alex, is so much fun on weekdays, with terrific bargains on a bar menu and on drinks and wine and beers.
