Copper House has an industrial but rustic feel inside. There is a large bar area and plenty of seating for small or big parties. The kitchen is open as is most of the layout. Our server was attentive. We ordered the loaded fries which were delicious and came out quick. Our entrees included the bacon pimento burger, cheesesteak sandwich, and the burger with cheese. The burgers were tasty and seasoned well but were a bit more rare than we ordered. My bunch really enjoyed the seasoned and spicy fries, as well. I had a side of fried brussels that were somewhat disappointing as they were not seasoned and undercooked. Overall, some very tasty options that we will definitely come back to try! read more

You need to get down to the Copper House ASAP! The building is an old saloon with an updated chic interior. There is copper running throughout, true to the name. I was promptly greeted and chose to sit at the bar. The bartender was quick to ask if I wanted to sample some local beers, which I did, but did not order one. I ordered the fried goat cheese App, and they were rich, but the blackberry sauce added umami and sweetness. Now, the main star was the shrimp and grits. Just went for brunch and the food was incredible. My fiancé and I shared the chicken and waffle sandwich with the bacon jam, the breakfast blt, and the biscuits and gravy. Unfortunately, his steak came out more medium well than medium rare, and he wasn't a fan of the Brussels sprouts. We came here late afternoon the weekend of the eclipse. Atmosphere was upscale / Gaston pub menu. Our party of four ordered the Greek meatballs, Porkbelly street tacos, Steak sandwich, and burger and fries. Highly recommend the Cheese Grits as side. We were so excited to be a part of this week's soft opening! There was a variety of items to choose from on the menu (although the chili dog did throw us off a bit BUT being a MI girl, I'll have to give it a try next time). This menh will change as they solidify what's working well/ folks are interested in. We really went all out in terms of trying the menu -- starting with Fried Herbed Goat Cheese w/Blueberry Jam and Cheeseburger Soup (a nod to when Taxman Brewing used to be here); then for entrees a Chicken & Waffles Sandwich, Apricot Salmon w/Rice, Spicy Fries, and Loaded Cheesy Grits; for dessert we went with the Salted Caramel Brown Sugar Cake (and got two more orders of that to-go along with a charcuterie board)! Overall, the food was tasty and well-seasoned. We agreed that we'd expected the apricot salmon to have more of an apricot compote on top vs glaze (although glaze is the name) as that would have brought more flavor. The spicy fries were awesome but not spicy, more like that nostalgic seasoning you're used to on waffle fries (so good). We could have each eaten 12 fried goat cheese balls and the blueberry jam was a great complement. The Chicken & Waffle Sandwich was tasty (cooked perfectly, maybe a little more maple sauce next time though) and the grits were perfect. The bf kept eating our to-go Salted Caramel Brown Sugar Cake on the car ride home, so that's a good sign (we hear the recipe was the chef's grandmothers). Drinks were good, but I do prefer a more ginger-spicy mule and this was more limey; the Mojito reminded me more of a Caipirinha (still good though), and Zach's Bloody Mary was great IMP but he would have preferred it thicker. Taps, wine list, and traditional cocktails all available. Appreciated the carafe of water at the table! Atmosphere is great with bar-side tables and bar seating as well for 21+. One comment is that we wished there was more room between the 2-top tables in the bar area, as we sort of felt part of the convo next to us. Other areas available for families with window/ viewing areas into kitchen. One of the persons involved with the opening brought us to the back to show us the additional seating - different feel than the front of house area, as this is where brewing equipment used to be, but nice to see how much space they have -- with additional rooms upstairs for parties. Our waitress was awesome but she had several tables + had to be bartender for those tables, which I think is a miss and something the restaurant can easily fix for future. After reading (and hearing of) some great reviews, we decided to come give Copper House a try. We started with an appetizer of the Mediterranean style meatballs which were very good and we also decided to give their cheesy grits (side item) a try as an appetizer. The cheesy grits were fabulous and we nearly licked the bowl clean. The meatballs were also very good but decided to save some to take home to reheat for lunches. For entrees, I selected the apricot glazed pork chop with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies while mom chose the steak carbonara. Between the two, hands down, the pork chop was 5 stars, a really memorable dish. The steak carbonara was also very good with a heavy bacon flavor to the sauce. For dessert, we splurged on their featured cheesecake which, for the day we went, was regular cheesecake with strawberry glaze topping and a candied orange. Melt in your mouth!! We loved it. Our daughter has been in Evansville now for a year and a half and we have been wanting to try Copper house. Finally made it last weekend for dinner. There are two areas in which to eat with completely different vibes! The back room is open and airy and modern with a view of the kitchen. It would be great for large groups. The front room is all wood and has a warmer feel. This is where we sat. Our server was named Shelby and she was an absolute blast, made our meal even more fun! We started with cocktails and then the bacon jam dip with toasted bread for an appetizer. For dinner I had the salmon, my husband had the pasta carbonara with shrimp, and my daughter had the salmon BLT. I also had to have a side of their loaded grits! Everything was just delicious. I have been a few times. Each time the service degrades. This time the servers congregated at the bar loudly while we were seated at a bar table. They paid little attention to us unless I flagged them. As the meal ended, they basically snatched the fork from my dates hand as she was holding it to finish desert, It felt like .. please leave and it was 45 minutes before stated closing time. Food was ok with limited choices. Balsamic dressing was almost inedible due to extreme vinegar taste. Goat cheese balls tasty. Carmel cake was dry and cold. Coffee was requested but they poured it out at 915 with a stated closing time of 10pm. Old fashioned 's were not made with muddled fruits as is typical of hand made higher cost bar drinks. First visited on Saturday, June12 @ 6pm. What went well: Old Fashioned that I ordered was spot on perfect. Emily, our waitress, was really good, very nice and accommodating Loaded grits were yummy! What did not go so well: My better half ordered the pappardelle with chicken. The chicken and the same were very tasty. That said, the pasta was Luke warm at best. This totally took away the very nice taste of the sauce. The cook staff lost my order for the Apricot encrusted salmon. So, I devoured my loaded grits, which as I have previously stated were very good. When I was served my entree it was okay..salmon a tad bit overdone. The snap peas were a little stringy, which is not uncommon. Suggest the chef reconsider the snappers and maybe just revert to peas instead-less hassle all the way around. This all being said, I would consider going back. Given how difficult it is to find qualified and capable staff at the current time (until the government stops giving out ludicrous handouts for people to sit on a couch), I think dining out for the neat erm will be a roll of the dice regardless of where you go. read more
