What an excellent experience! The ambiance was authentic, unique, and interesting. The service was too notch and the food and drinks exceeded my expectations.

Bar view from the booths. Plenty of tables and outdoor patio too!

Had another great visit recently at the Gerst Bavarian Haus! Brady greeted us promptly, told us the daily specials and checked on us often during our visit. That Breaded Tenderloin sandwich somehow gets better every time I visit. I don't know their secret but hats off to the kitchen staff. This German Beer Hall ambiance is very unique too. Missed my friend Devin (shown below) this visit but Brady stepped up to make our service great! This local favorite should be on your list.

First, such an awesomely authentic German haus. Great vibe. There's more though. I give it all star A's for everything. Food was so so yummy. Huge german selection. Friendly and fast service. Beer and spirit menu 5 or 6 pages long and CHEAP. We split the combo plate with schnitzel, stroganoff and goulash. Spatzel and cabbage for our sides. I don't even like rye bread but this was heaven. All Scrumptious and took lots home and that was 2 adults splitting for lunch. This ended our trip on a perfect note. BTW, I disagree with the review that said pricey. We're from st. Louis and this was a bargain.

If you are a fan of German food and fun atmosphere be sure to check out this place! Our wait staff was fabulous and friendly! Everything we ordered was delicious. The building is super cool and has been maintained so well. I can't wait to return and sit outside or enjoy Oktoberfest! Prost!

On a recent work trip to Evansville I was told to try this place out. After about Fifteen minute drive from the hotel I arrived at a late 1800's hardware store repurposed into a restaurant. The place transports you back to an earlier, simpler time almost immediately. A vintage register greets you as soon as you enter, and you can immediately sense this building has been around a long time. There are 50 beers on tap, including several German varieties, and I tried the Octoberfest by Spaten. I asked the waitress, who was courteous and quick, what she recommended and she suggested I try one of the sampler options. I complied and was greeted about twelve minutes later with a massive and delicious combo. I highly recommend you try this place out next time you're in the area.

    reheated food...

Stopped by on a friday @ 2:30 ...The food tasted old and reheated. I'm giving one star for the red cabbage and one for the ambiance..other than that it was quite a disappointment! Service was uninterested

    Menu! Tough choices!

Best German food outside of Germany! Loved the wurst sampler, potato pancakes, red cabbage and hot german potato salad.

Food is mediocre at best. Food is more generic german. Goulash was cold and lack much meat and cutlets were too thin and ever cooked

Gerst Bavarian Haus is one of the best authentic German restaurants in the Midwest. I had the Pig Knuckle dinner. It was delicious!

There are lots of items on display almost like a small museum. Don't forget the gift shop. I was thrilled. Obviously popular, the clientele was experienced, but diverse. While I did not hear German discussion, I might have. Next to the restaurant is a building that is their catering. It was as big as the restaurant. Walking in, the sign said to seat yourself. Sometimes that means a delay in a server finding you. Nay, nay. She was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. She was great. Because I scanned the menu ahead of time, I knew that I wanted the trio of wursts. They were among the best I've had. My server talked me into the potato salad. It was great. Along with the wursts, I ordered a salad and completely enjoyed their house made blue cheese dressing. The beer menu had Spaten Special. Spaten is a rare treat for and this is the first time I have even enjoyed it on tap. When I was leaving, I was able to buy a six pack of harder to find German beers. My adult son loves German beer and did not even recognize one I brought that he loved. Restraining myself, I made only modest purchases in the gift shop. This will not be true next visit. As far as the museum aspect, there are many displays. Down one wall are many car models, train models, liquor decanters and numerous other German items. I sneaked into a closed dining room with great displays of stein and wine history. A few times a year, I head from TN to IN. I will make this a two day stop. Oh, did I mention there is a hotel right next door to keep my safe from driving after enjoying a few great beers on tap?

Atmosphere is fun, it really embraces the German decor (saw a review or too calling it kitschy, in a good way, which I think is a fair description). Service is friendly and attentive (and in the costumed German garb to keep with the themes). Lots of classic German dishes (several schnitzel varieties, brats, spatzel, etc.). I won't say anything I've had over the years blows me away, but haven't had a bad choice either. The Wiener schnitzel I had most recently was tender and tasty, with a perfectly fried batter, and the German fries were nicely crisped on the exterior and beautifully seasoned. Good beer selection (including some brewed for the restaurant), reasonable wine list...love that you can go all out and have your beer in the classic giant boot! Small gift shop as well, some souvenir items as well as some candies and food options.

As you can see in the picture, they looked, and tasted like frozen fish fillets that you can get at any local grocery store. The inside more closely resembled fish mush than actual fish. Others' food tasted fine, but some came out barely warm, as was the case with my German potatoes. While the restaurant had a small town charm and friendly staff, I can't say that I will be back. We decided to go for dinner on Sunday evening and at first we were seated inside. It was a bit stuffy inside and so we asked Ian, our waiter, if we could sit outside and keep him as our server. He said yes and we sat in their clean and comfortable outdoor seating area. Unsure of what to order, I asked Ian for a recommendation. He said their pizza was really good and we could get a 16" unlimited topping pizza with breadsticks for $31. Let me tell you, his recommendation was absolutely incredible. The pizza came out hot fresh more toppings than you could ask for and the breadsticks were just as good! This pizza for sure is one of the top five best pizzas I have had at a restaurant. If you get the chance and are in French lick for any amount of time, make sure you go to Kelley's and order the pizza! My wife and I both highly recommend!
